Bind sense heading to your UP arrow and watch Sense Heading max out at every level. I put a "blank" button on each of the other screens to save from hitting anything else every time I walk forward. So forget this spell, it's basically useless.

ok, yeah, it's not that useful, however, my newbie enchanter got lost in a stormy northern karana, and I cast this to get my bearings. By 10th my chars all have sense heading up high enough where it's useful, but it does take a few hundred clicks to get it moving.

The only thing more useless than the True North spell would be a group True North spell.

Agreed, it's not that useful except for practicing divination. Even so, after 3 years in this game, I have all of my newbies use key 3 for sense heading. By level 5 everyone of them was maxxed in the skill...but also, after 3 years in the game, I personally know 99.9% of the landmarks in the newbie zones, so I don't usually get lost. There are some zones later in the game that I am not familiar with, and having practiced it so frequently as a newbie has allowed me to know which direction to retreat to if necessary.

Practical Application

This is a good way to raise your Divination skills. Just go through a bar of mana casting this (and Sense Animal, if you have it) and you'll eventually get your skills up there for when you really need the spells.

And hey some people might actually use it to tell direction. Kinda doubt it though. :P

For those warriors out there who wish they could have this spell to keep from getting lost alla time (ya big lugs), here's two ways to tell direction, further making this spell pretty pointless except for casting practice.

1) Look up. the clouds are moving east to west.
2) OK it's raining? Drop a sword or dagger on the ground (or any wep I think). It always points north.

Ok, I'm not going to pretend it's very useful (Divination skill ups is Primary use), but situations where you use it for it's actual effect?

1. alot more people got sky turned off now, in order to try and play the game post Luclin.
2. Ever fall off a boat? Dropping items on the ground won't help you here.

This spell was put into my spell book by Verant when they wanted to replace another spell. I don't remember what the spell was anymore.

If you have sense heading maxed out, there is no need for this spell. Just click sense heading over and over again. I do it when running, fighting, medding and all of my characters are maxed out on sense heading.

it replaced the non-functioning "sense magic" spell. During beta, you had to cast the spell to see if an item was magic. before release it got changed so all you had to do was rightclick on an item to see all the stats.
This was changed in the patch of 17 February, 2000. Also in that patch, Paineel went live, as did the Fiery Avenger.
