I won this bow last night. Spent 1 whole dkp point. 41 people on the raid, other rangers had stonewood. I am a poor ranger though, so looking at the weapon efficiency on this I am very very happy now. I also didnt know that its ultra rare? Is that true? Anyhow its a nice bow, even though Im a ranger I can see how warriors would want it for the dex and hp.
Rarity doesn't seem to be based on drop rate from the mob, but on overall number of items on the server. AoW is a moderately difficult mob, and doesn't always drop this, fairly long respawn, so Ultra Rare is about right.. especially as of the velious age when that tag was probably put there.
Bit off subject, but looking at this gear all the time makes me want to make some money. Whats quickest fastest way fer a 65 beast to make some serious plat?
It doesnt matter to me what the clas specifics are on the dang bow . To me that just seems petty to whine about. In my personal opinion this bow for the stats alone would be enjoyed by any melee class even if they never shot an arrow with it. Personally i use a bow alot especially when i solo. I'm a level 50 war atm and yes a lvl 50 war can solo if they know where to solo.At the moment i use the nightmare bow. I would love to have the war bow for the stats alone. When i go shopping to upgrade equipment i look for strength dex and hp or sta. This bow has 25 str 25 dex and 100 hp in range slot, so yes your damn right i wnt this bow for those stats alone even if i didnt use a bow i would be overjoyed with getting it. A war needs as many items with as many of those stats has they can and when u find those stats in a range item yippy struck gold. So everyone just quit whining. If you want one be patient go on raids till its ur turn to get one. At least thats how im gonna get mine, im gona patiently wait my turn. Bout the ony way to get it whining about what class it should go to first shirley isnt gonna get me one aany faster. whining about things is a waste of time!!!!
I agree it would be so nice if my bard could use bow I would paying the 100k those PoP bow that have 100HP + 15stats and HP regen just for the stat. If they will make an idole with those stats I would buy one for sure
Any ranger willing to invest in AM and EQ should be willing to pay up for a better PoP bow.
Still not a bad bow for ranger, but the argument of "I need it to deal damage" doesn't hold much water any more.
It might be slightly better than the bow I;ve got now(glimmering recurve), but by the time I've got EQ I'll have a better bow than this. Now I guess I'll go crank out some more AAs...
Oh, of course.. all of us 59+ rangers have 100k+ sitting in the bank for elemental bows... /rolls eyes. Thank you, but with limited playtime, I have to choose either farming or exp most of the time.. I prefer to play and enjoy it, so yes, this bow will most likely be an upgrade for me for a long time. In a guild that raids most evenings, and working a job during the day, you may not really have the time to scrimp and save 100k for the elemental bows.. and my dice suck, so Raid Points and the occasional LDoN are where most of my gear comes from.
Im a 65 Ranger with 121 AA's , have Obsidianwood and Stonewood also Bow of Contortion from Mithaniel Marr. This bow still rocks and i will get it once anyone in guild that cant use it as an upgrade gets it. 1) 25 dex and 100hp is decent for getting off procs when you melee (Which you do on 90% of raid mobs /cry) 2) its an old world bow , kinda like a collectors item
Yeah anyone would want it after nobody can benefit but come come now rangers... alot of the warriors (even with really nice stuff) would appreciate 100 pure HPs on a bow.
Well its a nice bow for a ranger and all, but really it does seem like this would greatly appreciated by a warrior, with the 100 hps and somewhat over looked the 25 dex. The dex is huge for warriors who sole aggro control really is based off proccing weapons. Well anyhow I wouldnt mind this bow for my warrior, and it wouldnt be bad for a ranger either but it seems like rangers really have alot of other bows to choose from while this bow has significant warrior benefits
Fook dat.... everyone expects us non-elemental rangers to fork out 50-100k for a bow so we can do damage.. the warriors can fork out 50-100k to get the stonewood bow and get the +atk and hp regen, AND 100hp or so, why should i default this bow to a warrior then go spend all that pp myself? If it drops, I'ma roll on it.
Of course, I expect to be rolling against the warriors, but gimme a break... I'm not passing on an upgrade cause a warrior wants to save the 50k I'm expected to spend so he can get a free bow... My raid DPS is just as important as his raid HP.
IMO a stonewood benefits a warrior far more than this bow does.. /shrug.
Hmm? We killed the AoW twice this week and he dropped four bows for us. Once on the first victory and three on our second victory. So what do they mean by ultra rare?
Hehe, with a name like "War Bow of Rallos Zek" You'd think it only go to warriors? Yes, Rangers would benifit more from this bow than warriors and I'm not saying that just to suck up. Unlike warriors, rangers are damage dealers. And the highend ranger would benifit greatly from this bow. But lets not say that the highend warrior wouldn't either. For those of you who don't think that the 100hps will help a warrior who has 5-6k hps unbuffed, think again. Unless if the warrior doesn't allready have at least 1300ac, then he will start looking for equipment that has lots of hp, and 100 hp is a lot! The warriors str and dex SHOULD be maxed out by the time they get here. The 180 range is beautifull for pulling. And the 43dmg and the dot effect of this bow just adds more icing to the cake for the warrior. Yes a warrior will never outdamage a ranger using bows, but that doesn't mean that VI should make every single bow out there ranger only? :P And besides, we all know why you rangers are flamming on here and boasting about your trueshot disc and AM3 saying it should be ranger only, cause you know this bow is gonna be awarded to a warrior first :) If your a ranger and you want this bow, here's what you do: Get to lvl 60, join a high level guild who takes this guy out on a regular basis, Then, be patient. It will be awhile but your time will come for you to win this bow on a raid. But it will be worth the wait.
The bow is a lovely weapon to have for the hitpoints, but most rangers at this level will use their primal (33/35 avatarproc) over a War Bow of Rallos Zek due to the improved damage ratio and increased DPS. The hit points in the ranged slot are a nice addition to the MA/SA types in a midlevel raiding guild, raidiing Velious-Luclin content.
It all really depends on what your guild is hunting, what your bank account can afford, and your own personal play style.
The war bow can give the AM3 ranger some lovely crits though :-) I do like watching my fellow rangers who use this bow criting with Trueshot over 2,000, but I am sticking with my Priimal for now
Slight correction... Warbow of Rallos Zek has a better ratio than the primal... not by much, but it IS a little better.. But to really shine, you need one of the player crafted bows from the elemental planes... Far superior to either bow.
Well this came out about the time of PoP. Now there are more options better for rangers. If you're guild is able AoW now, you are capable( or soon to be) of attaining better PoP bows. I would pass this bow off now to a warrior. 100 HP is good for them. Most of the new PoP bows have better stats along with 75 - 100 HP. I can't quote the names now, but bow that drop in the HoH trials, from Tallon Zek, and Agnarr the Storm Lord are better bows. These are the tip of the iceberg for new bows. I personally would rather let a warrior have this and take one of those three bows. Good luck and happy hunting rangers.
I know it's an old post, but a few bows to name out: Stonewood Compound Bow, Featherwood Compound Bow, nightmarewood Compound Bow, and alot of other <type>wood Compound Bows. all PoP exp bows
I've parsed this so I am certain of it. EQ AA uses max quiver haste, after which haste is applies to delay. With appropriate buffs on This bow becomes a delay 39 after EQ AA, then halve that at 60, or maybe its 65 now parsed this a while ago, to go down to 19.5 delay. Rangers have swiftwing for atk bonus, massive atk buffs, and I have maxed str and dex on a raid. This bow is NOT slow by any measure with that much haste. Assuming minimum delay is 9 (its a number I hear a lot, I've never parsed to check)the highest delay you could want a bow to have is 24. 24-6=18, 18/2=9. Which totally ignores the fact that my guild has five EQ AM3 rangers, and one bard, so we get an extra 25% haste, guess its 35% now, new songs. We do about as much damage, the five of us, as the wizzy MB crew, pre-nerf. We all pop our disc and go at it. Thanks for listening.

Every HP item helps. One item does not make or break the character but together they add up. It's called math.
According to this logic once our wars get to 6k to 8k hps we should stop gearing them. I can't think of anything more insane. A warrior's gear has a much more substatial impact on the success of a raid than any other class.
You can have the best group in the world, if you don't have someone tough to stand behind you'll end up as shark food fast.
Your showing your ignorance here. This weapon is for holding aggro which it helps a warrior do greatly....
Gammal 51 Warrior Tallon Zek
well i never saw a war bow kite, also when ur in melle range u CANT use ur bow !!!, also this will proc about 1 in 50 pulls, as far as using it for a WAR to hold agro, get haste get a weapon, and get ur *** out of the rangers face, Bow = ranger weapon, all u guys need in a bow is range. All i can say is ranger trueshot with AM 2k crits+, 1k crits with no trueshot, enough said, WAR and decent bow like this is a waste of time and effort from the raid force that presents a WAR over ranger to loot it.
Let me see if i heard you right " this bow helps warriors hold agro"
Correct me if i am wrong but if the tank is use'n a ranged attack to hold agro doesnt that mean he has to run all over hell and gone to get that ranged shot off ?
< snicker >
And another thing shouldnt the tank be take'n the damage ? as apose to use'n that ranged wepon ? I'd hate to be your cleric if your not.
Warriors plink quite a few arrows on the pull, i probably average 6-10 depending on line of sight to the pulled mob, and using Nightmarewood COmpound atm, with max dex about 50% of the time i get a nice little AC buff / mob AC debuff out of it. The "aggro" they're talking about is landing a DoT on the mob during the pull, which is extremely nice hate (ask any SK who uses them religiously, or any caster who has to wait a bit before they use their's). With elemental bows out now, and (at least on my server, MT) you can generally find a couple Stonewood's and Featherwoods for sale in the bazaar, I'd say this would benefit a guild who's farming AoW best in the hands of a warrior due to the raw HP. Remember, once sta is maxed (which any warrior worth his salt will have it maxed with buffs at the VERY least) raw HP is all a warrior truly cares about, and being able to land a nice aggro dot on the pull is an incredibly nice bonus.
Point is, as a warrior i'd gladly dump 50+ hours of raiding's worth of Points on ANY item that would put +100 HP in my ranged slot and switch it out with my bow after the pull, this item would save me ALOT of hastle in my inventory screen, and i'm almost certain the rangers in my guild would be happier saving those points for Planar / Elemental bows or bow components.
Just my opinion though, to each his own.
Edit: I just realised the previous poster put up their posts before Elemental / Planar bows came out. Well, everything i said is still true, but they probably have the same opinion as i do now. lol.
AoW droped 3 bows. 2 to warriors for the hp and stat bonus. and 1 to ME ! 43 damage is nice with some of them highend player made arrows EQ and AM 3. I currently got 5 more AA tell EQ. been goofing off making class 6 arrows just for TS. did a nice 1056 "my top" and lots of 600,700,and a few 800+. Tryed it out on battlemaster in ME zone, had to summon about 400 arrow, but he did fall. pretty easy to solo named. Who cares if they dispell all your buffs. they can never take away ur skill!
Applejuce Tolanheart 60 Ranger of inny.
ps... be kind, heal and buff a group. we all were that lvl before.
I don't consider myself to be a 'noob' but there are things I don't have any extensive knowledge about, and was hoping that once the flamers had their say maybe someone could help me out. I am the leader of a small guild on E marr, and we are by no means about to go after the AoW or any other lvl 60ish mob for that matter, but I would like to know what I was talking about when we're able. My questions are what are these 'discs' and how does the DKP? point system work. If someone could post here or e-mail me at Esarus_b@hotmail.com I would be most appreciative. Thanks.
I play one character, a 55 ranger played from day one when I got hooked on the game, and the two things I know for sure are these. 1. Never take aggro from the main tank, if you do bad things can and will happen at the higher levels. 2. There is a single mob in the game that drops REALLY good stuff that doesnt require teamwork to take it down. That being said, most melee classes can use each others weapons, to include bows, and the 100 extra hp this weapon gives really should go to the guys that get whacked on more than any other class in the game. When I work with a tank, (yes I include SKs and Pallies as well as warriors) I do what I can to hurt the mob without getting hurt myself, that way the clerics can concentrate on keeping him alive til the mob dies. I really dont care who in the group does the most damage as long as we drop the mob and dont get wiped. Rangers aren't tanks, Rangers aren't Rogues, Rangers are a really good utility class that are a hoot to play. VI made all 13 classes to work well TOGETHER not to make one better than the others. If there were one uber class everyone would play it and it could solo in NToV. Uenladar 55 Outrider of Tunare Mith Marr (hail me some time)
Funny, i had up this post, looking at the stats on the bow as my guild took him down for the 2nd time. First time bow didnt drop. This time, sure enough, it goes to a warrior, "for the hp".(
Are you kidding me? Your guild must be full of the biggest morons to play the game. Any ranger givin this bow, some good arrows, and the right disc could out damage multiple rogues.
clearly you must be the biggest moron in the game.
its not like this is the only good ratio/high end bow. however, it IS slow, no matter how you cut it. granted in the time it will still hit very hard, but the disc wont last long enough to get many shots in. what happens to that ranger after his disc wears of in 10 or so seconds? the roags continue to out damage his gimp treehugging ***. and the 100hp? the 100hp means your warrior doesent get his pansy self handed to him with an apple in his mouth by mobs such as the AoW and Emp. Ssra, who last much longer then your noobie disc would.
phiber, do a bit of research before you post nonsense.
1st off, as other people have mentioned and something any good rogue would know, is that it is the dmg/dly ratio you should be looking at, not the delay only which you seem to be doing.
2nd, the Ranger Trueshot discipline does not last "10 or so seconds" (Geez, where DO you get your info from???) it lasts 2 minutes.
You probably haven't heard of a parser judging from the intelligence of your post, but try parsing your dps vs an Archery Mastery 3 Ranger w/a good bow. You'll probably be surprized by the results.
ok i know im just a noob, but after buffs, and their original gear why give a tank the bow just for the HPs, seriously i dont understand the point of giving them such an excellent bow for just the HP stat, there are pleanty of buffs to take care of that, and honestly i dont see the point in an extra 100 hps, when a mob is smacking for 200+ if you're clerics/healers are doing their job right you shouldnt need to give them the bow for just 100hps....its rediculus, grated that the ranger should have a decent bow at the level required to even obtain this one, thats not always the case, so i say give it to the person thats going to benifit it the most, a ranger, smack him with a haste and a smart ranger will have haste gear lowering the delay, with TS and a bunch of arrows, a ranger with this bow will be able to do a TON of damage before it runs out and still a pretty good ammount afterwords. just my 2cp
I thought the same thing when i was first gearing up my newbie little warrior many moons ago. "Hmm, i need alot of STR, warriors are strong right? oohh, with alot of AGI, i'll dodge alot, right?"
Yes, 100 hp seems small, but remember, there's ALOT of slots in your inventory just like mine (i'm too lazy to look and count, estimate 17 slots or so). So if i can fill HALF those slots with a +100 item (and +100 HP items in range are rare as hell) i just added ~900 HP to my over all HP. Now lets say i had items in the other slots averaging 50ish, i now have 1300 HP of RAW HP. meaning i basically have Innate Spell: Virtue on all the time. Now going into a raid, i get a Virtue or a Pot9 and Symbol of Kazad, and i've doubled the HP Bonus i would have origionally had, which on a mob that quads for 700 a hit, i can now take almost a full quad simply because of those +HP items.
Not saying it should be a Warrior only item, Rangers doing more damage helps the raid's success almost as much as me staying alive. What i AM saying is that Rangers have much more options for bows with killer ratios and procs than warriors have for +100 HP ranged items, so either way, i wouldn't be sad if a ranger got this over me, but i'm not gonna decline because there's a ranger present.
the ratio determines how much damage you're going to do, lower delay doesn't help do "more damage" even with disc.
for simplicity, ill explain with an example. say with a 10/10 bow you'd ten shots in 10 seconds, each for 20 damage (200 damage). if disc doubles each shot, it would be 400 damage. with a 20/20 bow you'd get 5 shots in 10 seconds, for 40 damage each (200 damage again). if disc doubles, it would again be up to 400.
Ranger disc last 2 min - not 10 sec. this one and the 40/40 are the best bow in game for ranger( I don t include the one from VT) now for your info, even without disc, with the appropriate AA pts, we easily attain same damage as rogue. With disc we totally KS them. So yes it s a ranger bow. Of course it s good also for war, 100 hp, the 25 dex help to proc with their enraging sword... but don't even speak of ranger without knowing what you say. just my 2cp.
/agree with last poster. Ranger item. They've found that higher damage>better ratio in terms of trueshot disc, and since this is a high damage bow and really really good ratio, as mentioned earlier, you could outdamage multiple rogues.
That is, if you're a brain dead ranger or any old warrior.
Rangers want fast bows, rangers want damaging bows, just like any melee wants fast and damaging blades/sticks/pointy-things. The only bow I'd (I'm a ranger) rather have than this is that new 40/40 one from Luclin, now that it's range has been fixed.
Alternate advancment abilities, fleeting quiver, chanter haste, Swiftwind haste, Trueshot discipline, this bow and a standing mob means that for two minutes, the ranger is the most damaging class in the game (even more than a rogue, by far).
We have several rangers that have gotten this bow, and banked it for a Primal bow. I was using a Priceless Velium bow untill I got this one. Typically Warriors will get this bow for the simple fact that they make the best use of the 100hp on it, and Rangers will have or get better, ie Primal. I'm not saying that Rangers shouldn't get it, hey man if you really want one knock yourself out, but when you're in ST and a Primal bow drops, don't cry if you're passed over because you've already got an "Uber" bow. Trust me, guilds doing AoW and getting these bows are on DKP systems or have some other form of point system in place. It's gonna go to whoever can make the most use out of it that's in attendance. IE Warriors first, then if they already have, or have better, it will happilly be awarded to any of the Rangers in attendance. Or, if you're on a purely DKP system, if you have the most points you get it.
First, not all guilds who can kill the AoW are on a DKP system. Lots of us are on merit and officer decision.
Second, I couldn't help but notice that you've banked your Warbow. Guess this isn't a true upper item for warriors either.
Point blank, at AM3/EQ, this bow will outdamage a primal bow if Avatar is present for both parses.
What's more important for a guild? 100hp right now on a warrior, or 50k+ more damage right now on a ranger? It depends on where the guild is at, strength-wise. This item could go either way.

There are a few bows that are good. Persoanlly I would rather have the Avatar proc then Torment. Primal bow will do more damage then this bow will. But you will be fortunate to have either.
I always love these "this item sucks" threads. It sucks because you will most likely never see one. When you get to the point where it is posible you will get one then you will be happy just to get a end game bow reguardless of wich one is SLIGHTLY better then the others.
It is all about DPS (Damage Per Second). Other then that, who gives a rats **** about the stats. The only class that really uses a bow in a raid (which if you have one of these you most likely do) is a Ranger. As stated before, Rangers are DPS gods with a bow, alt exp skills, and Trueshot Disc. Although you might see a warior with one of these, most likely the Rangers all have one or better. The reason is that if you are smart enough to conquor these mobs you are most likely smart enough to give items to where they are best used and not just to who wants it.
So get of the boards and go level and learn. Take down NToV/Sleeper/etc. type mobs and then come back with your opinions. Then they might mean something :-)
For a while there rangers were about 10 times better than EVERYONE due to a bug with being above a mob. It allowed them to shoot with no delay. useing a high damage bow and quickly clicking range they could put out like 1k DPS.
It's to guild / raid leader to choose who will loot ! Why dont you stop ******** about this shoudl go to xxx, never to xxx ... I dont play a war but a Sk, but as a war i would be VERY happy to have a 25 str 25dex 100hp item in range slot....not you ?
I hate to say this but this bow should be Ranger only, I say that because until now the best bow in the game was windstriker 45/60 range 200 + some stats, its the ranger PoA quest bow, but now that this bow has appearedand with its 43/45 stats and 25 str/dex, windstriker is almost not worth trying for, and as warriors get crits with every weapon they use it just makes sense that rangers, for obvious reasons need this bow more for better crits, most warriors i know use a bow only for pulling so why waste an awsome bow like this for the main tank, sorry warriors this is just my opinion, and yes there are exceptions to warriors using bows for other than pulling
u really should look up the difficulty of the mob before u flame about the windstiker not being worth questing for. as far as i know MANY servers have not yet been able to kill this bad boy yet. AND the greater delay on the windstriker makes it even better than this war bow when rangers use their trueshot disc. prolly only about 3 people in all the servers combined has this bow because if the difficulty of the mob. yes i would dream of having either bow but i will stick to my raincaller for now :)
Multani lvl 50 ranger <Holy Union of Norrath> Quellious server
Uhmm I have to break this to ya. Within the last two months AoW have been downed 7 times on AB. Mortalis killed him 5 times till now and Darkwind twice as I recall. (Talk about pharmage). The 5 times he has gone down for us I think he has dropped 4 bows (not sure if it only is 3 though)and for Darkwind he dropped 2 bows. Untill yesterday all the bows dropped for Mortalis had gone to a warrior. Yesterday I got the bow. AoW only has like 6 or 7 items (monk legs, rog/bard barb mask, war helmut, awesome all/all ring, Blade of Carnage, this bow - I might have missed some drops out but this is just from the top of my head) on his loot table and drops 3 to 4 each time so getting a bow when killing him is not all that rare. Besides... if you can kill him once you have the strat down and can very well pharm him. As info on the bow I must admit I am still a novice with it, but lemme put matters into perspective. A ranger with Archery Mastery 3 and Endless Quiver with dmg 14 arrows can do over 1700 dmg in ONE shot with Trueshot disc and primal 33/35 bow if he crits. Now imagine this baby! We are talking about shots for over 2K if lucky. Granted PoA bow does 2 pts more dmg and has higher delay so will most likely be the bow to choose if ya want to show off a lill. :-) And as a side note... I actually have found the PoA bow alot harder to achieve. I have looked for the drops for that quest on numerous trips to PoA and only gotten two and that is within about a year. So as it turns out... I couldnt really get the bow I was aiming for, so I had to "settle" for this baby :-)
Trackfinder Swifteblade, in the service of Mortalis on Antonius Bayle.
You make me sick... in a very good way. Hehe, I'm still using trueshot and you are 'settling' for this bow. Har Har, you make me very proud to be a ranger...ROCK ON!!!!!
You guys are always thinking it should be this class or that class only. Well, if thats what you think, then you should ask a GM that or something. That bow is worthy of an SK and Pally also if you ask me. Just my 2cp
i'm sorry but as a pally i would hate this. i NEVER use a bow to pull with or anything else, all this gonna do is make us not be able to pull singles. plus a pal or sk would be better off with a ranged item with ac scence we always get the shirt end of the ***** stick
Primal/Priceless Velium War bows were the best bows in the game, they have a much better damage ratio than the Windstriker.
Also this bow was proven by one of the first rangers to get it to not be much better than a primal bow. He parsed his log using this bow and a primal bow while using Trueshot, against the same mob. The primal bow did 16k damage while in Trueshot and this Bow did 17k damage.
That is rather dissappointing considering that the Avatar of War is the hardest killable mob in Velious, while a primal bow only takes 2 groups in ST to get.
This doesnt make attempting to get the Windstriker trivial either, PoA is much easier to do than killing the Avatar of War, or getting keys for ST.
Considering that the Avatar of War is extremely difficult, much more than anything in Ntov, I think this bow needs to recieve an upgrade like the high end 2 handed weapons did.
Oh it will probably go to rangers but look at the name....any weapon with Rallos Zek in the name will have WAR on the classes that're able to use it. Plus the 25 str/dex will make warriors put out more damage which keeps the mobs off the poor little elves, oh and everyone loves hitpoints.
At this level, with a Tolan's Bracer or Endless Quiver ability, and the Eagle Eye spell this baby will hit hard, hit often, and not miss very much. Wow....!
Munkustrap Longshot Ranger of too few seasons to really have an opinion on high level gear, but what the heck? Veeshan server
