looks like gnoll finger is like supplies the person that gets agro must have quest for them to drop killed several named with no fingers going to try my theory today and see if it is right.

"In all the confusion..." I am not positive if it was the Slavemaster or the High Shaman. I think it was the High Shaman Lo'Eszch that dropped 6 of these. (Both of these spawns so far, I have found to be rarer than the others, I am not sure if it is just because of where they are located, or they are actually rarer relative to PH spawns - yet.) This is the only time I have seen the finger bones and have killed many of the others listed below several times and they were not on them. Rather sketchy I know but just trying to help anyone who is on the look out for these.
X Ref.: Also read the posts under the quest itself. I can't confirm or deny but it looks like enough people saying the same thing to be true (hey it's only EQ). Which might have happened in my sampling above.
The main point here being that they definitely dropped both before and after the date posted below.

I killed Garght and Brewmaster many times over, looking for fingerbone to drop and haven't seen a thing. In that time, I haven't seen the Slavemaster spawn once. Sent in petiton. must be bugged or something.
I killed Brewmaster Drachty twice, first time no fingers, The second time he dropped 6 fingers. My alt warrior, who needed the fingers died the first time in his final rage, but not the second time. This might be why the fingers did not drop the first time.

I'm in a full group, just killed Garght the Angry, and didn't drop fingers, nor counted as a kill in the task "Send the Message".

I am camping them for 5 days now (10-12 hours per days) and kill several named for loot "Severed Gnoll Finger".
I got over 20-30 named & no finger droped.
I have try a full group too and killed 4 named same result.

Something odd is going on.

Today I killed the Butcher 4 times, High Shaman 2 times, and Snake Handler once. Yea yea the butcher is not listed above, but 2 of my other characters got fingers from him, so I know he use to drop them.
None dropped today.
Sent a bug report.

I think this item is bugged at the moment:
The best way to get one is in a full group. I killed about 8 named who are listed as finger-droppers with no luck, having druid+warrior+2 mercs (druid having the task).
I added another friend to fill the group, all 3 non-mercs got the Send the Message task, and the first name we killed dropped the 6 fingers.
My guess is that b/c it drops one each for a full group, it's bugged and only drops fingers if you have a full group (mercs included)
