Surprising to me that large widows in Tox aren't listed. They drop LOTS of spider silk, virtually every kill, sometimes 2-4 per kill. Single-digit level mobs, super-easy to pharm a quick stack if you need, especially if you have tracking.
I've tried Field of Bones, there were not enough spiders and those that were there did not drop silks in large quantities.
I've also tried Mesa, the spiders seem to drop 1 spider silk and had a chance to spawn up to 6 or so spiderlings which dropped many spiderling silks.
Then i went to East Karana, not the most convient to get there, but once I was there, the craig spiders seem to give around 1-6 drops and plenty of mobs were around. Covering the southern half of the zone (from the stone hilltop to down southward).
EK is definitely the best place. Plenty of Crag Spiders spawning quickly and dropping a lot of silk. Some don't drop any, but that is rare. With casual observation, I'd say the average is about 3. Wow, about 10 minutes after posting this, I saw a Crag Spider drop 8 silks.
On the combine server I need spider silk for some newbie quests, but in GFay they drop everything BUT spider silk. Does anyone know where in Luclin or the Old world spider silk still drops?
I don't think the Combine has gotten to the TSS expansion yet.
After MANY kills of large widow spiders in Greater Faydark, I have yet to see a spider silk drop. Woven spider silks and spider legs drops just fine though.
The best place I've come across is in Field of Bone. I farm the Bonecrawlers and I have seen up to eight silks a kill so far. Go after Bonebinders cause theyre low lvl. I just run through the zone with my necromancer and target every spider i see and have pet attack it and il come out with 2 stacks in 20 mins.
The Crag spiders are easily the best Spider Silk farm in the game. However there is something odd about that theory. There is no trees to make webs in you would thing the naturally evolve around the need to use it.. The crags are not hostile creatures so i am also lead to beleive they are soley Halfpintous (Living off of half sized people) fo i have found many a body parts in them.
Greetings. I am Freidrick of the Lanys server. I will farm silk and sell to people in bulk cheaper then the going bazaar price if you are buying lots. Send me a tell with a order and i shall fullfill it as fsat as possible.
I've seen the blackwidows in najena drop up to 6 or 8 a kill. However, seeing as there are only 4 our 5 total in the whole zone and they take almost 20 minutes to respawn, it may not be a very productive place to hunt. On top of that, the widowmistress can spawn in place of 1 of them who can be very difficult to solo if you aren't post 50.
Most giant spiders drop 6-8 silks a kill. I was in the Karanas... West karana i think... anyway, I was hunting those guys and I killed about 50 and I had 4 stacks of spider silk.
Seem to drop more often off the heart spiders in UG as I usually see a minimum of 2. However, the crag and carrion spiders in EK do have the ability to drop a greater quantity. They drop anywhere form 0 to 8 (altho 6 is usually the max I have seen... 8 is very rare). Used for various levels of tailoring but are especially important for the earlier skill levels.
Any idea how many silks can be dropped from Draknids in Firiona Vie? I'm at a level where I still get experience for them with my Ranger, and are soloable. Would be nice to get experience at the same time. :)
Heyo all, I've found a pretty good source of Spider Silk. Go to the Field of Bone, and farm the BoneCrawlers and BoneBinders there. I've gotten up to Five silks off one spider! Hopefully this helps ya out ;) have fun!
nah...they are thinking correctly... The ones inside the pit are good for the spider silks, the spiderling silks drop off the spiderlings outside the pit in and around the path to cabilis and the spiderling cave.
The best source of silk I have come across are Crag spiders in E. Karana. "Crag hill" is located near the W/E Karana zone and is north of the path. Crags drop anywhere from none up to eight at a time.
Im not sure about any other server.. but on Tribunal I see these things now being sold for 7plat a piece... So for any of you who want to make quite a living on saving time for a budding tailor... save as many as you can and head up to Bazaar.. you'll find that they will be gone before you know it..

Aye, I will support the Crag Spiders as one of the best. I've also seen them drop as many as 8 silks at a time. I know I'm probably endangering many people out there who enjoy the solitude of Eastern Karana, but knowledge is meant to be shared (just don’t abuse it).
If you are coming from Highpass Hold:
The chasm area will open up and you’ll see a hill on your right side, and a mountain (well, bigger hill) on your left side. Crags spawn around both areas; however, more Crags spawn on the left then they do on the right (Carrion spiders tend to spawn along with the Crags on the right hill).
If you are coming from North Karana:
Keep following the road and you’ll see the entrance to a huge chasm. The hill on the right is the “Crag hill” and the one of the left spawns a mix of both Crags and Carrions.
If you are coming from the Gorge:
Keep going straight out, over the small hill and you’ll hit a road. Directly in front of you is “Crag hill.” Behind you is the lesser hill were Carrion and Crags both spawn.
A few things to note:
Around both hills (basically the east side of the zone) wonders a very annoying (and potentially nasty) Rogue by the name of Theoris Bladespur. If you are a Ranger or Druid I am sure he will attack you (if you are hunting in this zone for experience that is). His backstab to a 25 Druid was 221 every time with normal hits in the 40’s. F9 is your friend, because when you least expect it, he’ll unleash his attack on you.
The only other notable danger (besides the Crag’s poison if you are meleeing and they can give you experience) is a named giant that roams the Crag Hill: Tarbul Earthstrider. On some of the older servers he may not be up much, but just something to keep an eye out.
The last danger for those that are hunting here is the evil eye. He usually roams the lesser hill and patrols around the Gorge chasm entryway, though he stands out from everything else so much that he’s pretty easy to spot (besides, if you are going solo it’s fun to take this guy on).
Also, if no one is camping them; there is a family of Knolls at the base of Crag hill - the Mucktails. Vexven Mucktail drops the Darkwood Shield, a pretty nice shield for the level you can get it.
Overall Eastern Karana is just a GREAT place to hunt for experience. Bandits, evil eyes (fast spawn most of the time), hounds, cats (that drop up to 3 HQ pelts at a time (farmers are going to kill me)), giants, Broon, Droon, spiders, snakes, wisps, gnolls, griffs, and the most beautiful fishing spot you’ve ever seen... it boggles my mind why in the world anyone would hunt in Oasis compared to this place. One of the gems of the old world - if you are 12-25 and can’t stand the over-populated, boring places you may want to consider Eastern Karana.
On a note, the only thing I advise against is "farming" the spiders if someone is there for experience (yes, I've actually hunted them for experience while at the same time for their silk). This shouldn't be a problem, as Eastern Karana has many spiders to go around, but I have seen a high-level character simply wipe out every spider in sight, and this generally sours the experience (literally).
crag spiders? what are those? I'm sure there aren't any in EK... waste of time to go looking for them there, just totally worthless place to go.... : )
