Vah Shir Camp Hint
# May 28 2002 at 4:22 AM Rating: Decent
I kept casting Sense the Dead. There were times when the kitty had popped,
and it was stuck in the wall or wandered off without me seeing it, so I got into
the habit of checking this way. An added perk is that if there are enough folks
hunting in the zone killing the other pesky undead, you might pick up one of the
kitty pops from the other spawn point as well (near the center of the zone).

I spotted one on Sense the Dead radar, and asked a ranger to bring it to me,
and he did!

The placeholders do periodically pop in the tree, and sometimes are very hard
to see. Keep a timer and look around until you find a bat, grol baku soldier and
rarely, a grimling orefinder to kill every 5-6 minutes. You can't just sit there
and wait for the PH to smack you. It won't every time.

Three guild clerics did this quest recently, and I would say that our camp drops
averaged a little over 1 skull per hour. Good luck!

I camped the Tormented Vah Shir spawn (the tree near Katta) for 11 hours last night...

ONE.. that's right count em... ONE spawn after 11 hours and at least 100 PH kills..

Logged on today and the guy camping it now says he got 3 in the last hour... I hate that guy.
Where have all the Vah Shir gone
# May 13 2002 at 4:30 PM Rating: Default
I have been sitting at spawn spot 1 for 6 hours nowe. I have killed 60 placeholders and not seen one single Vah Shir. wtf is goign on here? Is the game broken or did they suddenly stealth nerf this?

Heres the deal about the SKULLS.... sometimes they spawn in THE CASTLE WALL (and even rarer in the tree).

Heres what you have to do....theres a "notch" in the castle wall...and a little patch of grass...SIT THERE.

I know it sounds crazy..but if you sit there..the ones in the wall will aggro to you. Sometimes even the PHs get stuck back there...VI doesnt care.

Best thing to do is get a friend to sit on the rock opposite the wall and look that way...and you sit in the notch of the wall.

After a kind soul told me this trick...took no time to get the rest of my skulls. THANKS Meganriley!

Hope that helps.
BURNING PRIEST
# May 10 2002 at 11:52 AM Rating: Decent
The BP was a pushover, I heard from many people he cant be snared or rooted, he CH'es, blah blah blah. I pulled with epic snare, which gets resisted twice as much as a regular snare, and doesn't work on the mobs who "are immune to speed affecting spells" or whatever the message is, well anyways it stuck fine, root stuck fine, and wildfire lit him up just fine, he CH'ed once, but a couple more nukes, and he burned up just fine. Pretty easy solo, the brains are harder than this one. Scenery got really boring though ;)

>sigh< My 60wiz and grp (52cleric 56warrior 51monk 50druid) were on that plateau ALL DAY...literally 8 hours... in the stated spot (and all over that place mind you) and it NEVER SPAWNED.

Im so depressed. Guess Ill have to round up another grp to do it. Cant decide whether to give to my pally or my cleric...aww let people freak when they see it on my level 26 cleric.

Oh and for the record this is not a quest you can do over and over for the cash, as I have seen stated. Itd take you forever.

Any ideas on getting the thing to spawn would be appreciated.
Tip on Burning Priest camp
# May 10 2002 at 3:37 AM Rating: Decent
After a recent patch of the patch by Verant, I logged onto Rodcet Nife. I was camped in TM. A guild ranger was in SD checking out the new uber mobs that were just installed there. He sent me a tell saying Burning Priest is UP! Of course, after weeks of trying to get the rotting flesh to pop, my immediate response was OMW!!!

Here's the tactics we used:
He's level 53 ranger, I am level 52 cleric
He pulled the BP, I immediately fired off Epitaph of Life, he snared, then I hit Dread of Night.

No concerns about the mob CH'ing himself. Total summation of my casts: Two "Dread of Night", Two "Epitaph of Life", and one "Banish Undead" to finish it off.

Oh yeah, my ranger partner only sustained one bub of damage from a "Retribution" cast by the Priest before "Dread of Night" kicked in.

Hope this helps someone out when they finally get the guy to pop.

I got all the items i needed for the quest, and when I turned in the skulls, only seven skellies popped...guess I'm one of the few who got the bug. GM wouldn't help either regardless of the /report of the message that showed only seven spawned and the screenshot I emailed him. Guess it's back to tenebrous mountains for me.. /sigh
RE: Disappointing

In the "walkthrough" of the quest it says (copied from the walkthrough:

At the time of writing this walkthrough, I found a bug in this part of the quest (Shocking isn’t it) you MUST kill the courier in the great hall, the one you first walk in to when you enter the castle with the red carpet down the center and the stair way going up, if you do not you will only get 7 out of the 8 reanimated Vah Shir and you will have to destroy your stuff and start the quest over again.(Been there done that thank you very much)

Not sure where you attempted to fight him, but this COULD be an explanation for only getting 7 skellies instead of 8 /shrug.

I am very close to completing the quest. I am obtaining this shield as a present for my wife (RL). She is an AWESOME Cleric on Tholuxe Paells and deserves this :-).

Good Luck all
RE: Disappointing
# May 09 2002 at 12:28 PM Rating: Decent
When we did this quest for my shield, we pulled the courier out to the big open area that is in the northwest corner of the zone. This way we had a nice big open area to kill them all. There was no problem with the number of skeletons that popped, or with killing all 8. I might add that I am one extremely happy shaman at this point, finished up the quest two nights ago to get my shield.

When I did this, we planned to pull him away from the castle, but everytime he got close to the opening in the courtyard he would turn around again. So we killed him there in the courtyard (near the npc that asks for various flowers). Went off without a hitch.

Basically, I'm not entirely sure he can be pulled further. Didnt wanna go for me.

#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 08 2002 at 2:20 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Last week Some Guild mates and i where extreemly bored, and it being Spring break, we decided to go do a quest. First i would like to point out that it was me 49warrior a 55 cleric a 59 druid another 59Druid and a 57 chanter and a 46 shaman. We all each got a sheild. The hardest part of this quest was waiting for the skeles to spawn, since we would get one person all the requierd elements and MQ with the other 5 members of the group. Although i got my *** kicked by that sun revernt in SD, so we enlisted the help of a 60 warrior to teach him a leasson =) I didnt post here to give info, but i did want to post that farming isnt so bad. And the Druid that said that is a hypocrit cause i seen you in RM farming PP =). And maybe you want to complain that its diffrent cause its an item, but to me farming is farming) be safe have a good ....time.
fyi on the last mob...rakshasa
# Apr 02 2002 at 2:56 PM Rating: Decent
I just did the shield quest. Here's some info that i have not seen posted. Rakshasa is a shaman type mob. He does dispel your buffs btw...so load up on either clickable buffs first...like jboots and shrunken goblin earring or fake buffs you don't mind losing. His max hit on my 53 paladin was about 136pts Max, i have read that he can hit for 145pts. I have fought this guy 3 times so far. He's got a ton of hp's. My group consisted of 53 paladin, 51 cleric, 46 war, and 52 druid. My paladin received about 5 cheals too. This mob is immune to stun, root/snare, and pretty high MR. He cons blue at 53, but a total undercon to say the least.
Make sure to have MR, PR, and DR buffs to bring your resists up vs his spells. He does try to cast the Shammy slow line of spells, which will make your fight last longer. Hope this provides some insight on the last mob.

<( '.')>/ engarde A Rakshasa approaches with an evil gleam in his eyes....***swing, miss, riposte, miss, double attack, miss miss, bash, 1pt of dmg***...wtf???...oh yeah i'm a nerfed paladin...LOL

Aye this mob is easy, has about 10k hps tops, theres no need for loading up dummy buffs, he's certainly no Vox or Naggy

I just killed this last MOB, in our group was a 52 pally, 58 shammy and me, 54 druid. He was easy as all hell, seariously, i never healed the pally and she didn't loose a full red, i healed the Shammy once when he gained aggro, we slowed the MOB and yes he was unsnarable, but he never ran, so who cares, right? Cold was apperently sticking, according to shammy, though i was casting fire nukes, and landed all with 100% damage, save one that did 45 dmg. Guy aggrod on tank and stayed there most of fight, didn't debuff the shammy and I. Altogether, pretty easy fight. Took about 3 minutes, maybe 5 to kill him.

P.S. Grats Vinan on your new shield!

We didn't have a chanter to slow or a shammy either...lol That's why it was rather tough and we saw his full line of spells...lol Besides it was like 3am in the morning when we did 3 hand-ins for the shields...lol But...he does cast, does dispel, and if not slowed...he does a hell of alot of dmg over time.

Okay, the description of the quest and the quest you are talking about don't seem to be the same one. The quest listed requires skulls whereas there is an amulet and other things involved? Why isn't this listed and if it is, where?

After reading all the post I am still confused about what has to be done.
So I first get a container in Katta.
I fill the container with drops from tormeneted Valshir from Tenebrous Mountain and I bring the container back.
7 skelly pop (lev ?) that I must kill.
Is that correct ?
What should I do next ?
Tidbit of useful information....

The Burning Priest is on a spawn timer of 31 minutes, his placeholder is a Sun Reaver or Sun Revenant, and can be found at the follow loc in The Scarlet Desert: 560, -778. He has approximately 6,000 HPs, is relativly resistant to fire-based spells, and will CH himself. I would recomend one melee and one healer of levels 54+ to take him down easily. He does not summon, so can be kited as long as you are prepared to interrupt his CH's.

Personally, I had to camp him for 19 hours, but I have heard of camps anywhere from 2 hours to over 30.

Best of luck! =)

This shield is fantastic, the wisdom on it puts me over 255. As for SBS over this shield. I have the sbs in my resist gear bag which I carry with me at all times. So as for which is better, niether, one has one use, the other another. And the charisma is not useless. Just because I am a level 60 druid does not mean I am not going to charm animals. Using a charmed animal to kill greenies in a zone, is better than the druid pet.

Got all 4 items need to finish my quest in 4 HOURS. In fact my longest camp was for the brains on the thought leech! Got coal first pull on Umbrous Toilers in ME, got Medalion 2nd pop in Scarlet Desert..took about 2 hours of killing thought leeches to get brains (some dumb mobs ... no brains) :) Unbelievable. Many thanks go to Aaedaie and Caewen of Mark of Honor in Ayonae Ro server. MoH rocks :)

sorry this is not a Lodi shield, its secondary only.

BTW I have a Sarnak Battle Shield in my resist gear bag along with other items ( I love tinkers bags)... & charisma helps you land other spells besides just Charm...

a girl cant have to many changes of accessories with her to meet those varied situations, I keep a no weight tinker's bag for these instances.

While the 20 wisdom is nice, I'd rather take an SBS over this. The charisma is totally useless really unless you plan on charming animals (which you probably will never do post 50 anyways) Wisdom is easy to get in other slots, and the added HP and resists on the SBS more than make up for it, in my opinion.
RE: SBS preferred
# Mar 11 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
My Druid currently has a SBS and a MM shield in her backpack to use, as needed, for their resists.

I would much rather have a 20 Wis shield, so I could wear more resist jewelry full time, and not sacrifice Wis.

It's a mute point right now, as my druid is currently poor and can't afford any more resist gear....
RE: SBS preferred
# Feb 16 2002 at 6:39 AM Rating: Decent
For someone who puts value in resists you are obviously overlooking the loss of wis when in resist gear. I would rather have no wis loss for a pair of BD bracers then to have the saves from a SBS.
RE: SBS preferred
# Feb 21 2002 at 3:02 AM Rating: Default
What's so great about the saves on the Shiny Brass Shield (SBS)? It's only +10 vs Magic, I mean. Get a Bone Talisman, it's 4 wis AND +10 vs magic. The 10ac? well, at these levels if you're getting hit as a caster your dead and dumb anyway. GEEZ WHAT'S WITH YOU PEOPLE!!

Heh, j/k. I know what SBS you're actually talking about :)

Just to let the person that said this would be better for wisdom casters....ummmm....a pally is a wisdom based hybrid. So, it would be a very nice item for one.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 09 2002 at 6:51 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Please ecuse me while I pick my jaw up off the floor. This defines "SWEET", this is by far better looking then that Bone Braced Buckler with a cooler name, plenty of wisdom (Which I'm lacking even with every piece of equip giving me wis), tons of ac for the rare aggro I get, a bit of CHA for selling Vendor trash (It does help quite a bit, moreso when you find items on vendors that sell for more to players then you buy it for ;)), and magic resist is always good. I'm only 45 but I bet I could do this if I could finally find a group and crush those evil catmen!

Unfortunately the CHA this gives you in the secondary slot pales to the CHA you get from a Crude Stein. I will still have to switch out for my Stein to get over 100 Cha to sell stuff, at least for now =/
