Dude you are psyco if you dont make this stuff and use it at low levels its virtually free except for the time it takes to gather the carpaces.
The other killer of Banded

... is the Loda Kai armor that drops fairly commonly in Shadeweavers. Same AC as Banded, heaver, but with a nice black look. Best part is, its free, basically. Just take the time to collect it.

Banded is lighter though, which is nice. Now that my smith is high enough to make the banded, I just give the loda kai away or sell it back to vendors, but I couldn't sell banded if I tried.

It is so time consuming collecting carapaces, that yes, before you made a full set, you'd be high enough level to collect a set of Loda Kai or make your own banded.

Cost vs. Time

In my case cash is scarce because I use it to improve my tailoring and smithing.

My main problem is the lack of buyers for the items I produce, so I wind selling the products back to merchants and eating the cost difference. I lose money over time.

In a situation like that, it is more cost-effective to collect the carapaces yourself and smith the thing yourself. And it is much less costly to achieve the smithing level required (which someone said was trivial at 36), than to make banded mail, which trivials much higher.

I like to run around killing small creatures in Shadeweaver's Thicket while waiting for my toon to heal, instead of sitting down doing nothing. I can use or sell the bloodling carapaces, I can eat the meat from hoplings or tailor their hides, and I can sell xakra worm shadeling silk to high level necros who come wandering through regularly.

Killing low level mobs is also good when you're practicing a new weapon skill, like you just got a piercing weapon but your piercing skill is so pathetic that loda kai you used to slaughter can now kick your butt.

I come into a lot of carapaces this way, given the "free time" I have to spend recovering from battles. So to me the bloodling plate is not a "quest" effort as much as it is a "bonus" for all the time I spend whacking stuff in the newbie field.

not bad

at lvl to obtain it isn't bad. it has better AC then patchwork and leather and give you more sv Desease which comes in handy at that lvl

The Shield Frame takes 8 Carpaces and the Bloodlings are called Cht'Thk:) Give the shield back to the person who sold it to you and He will give you a Bloodling Plate.

To make the armor, you need a Banded armor mold, Nepeta oil extract, and the correct number of Bloodling Plates.

2 Plates = Cloak Leggings and Tunic
1 Plate = Everything else.

Not bad considering it trivials out way below normal banded but has pretty close to same armor class.

This is significantly worse than banded, and you could easily skill up high enough to make banded, before you collected enough plates to make a full set of this. A banded mail costs only about 15pp to buy. why would you wear this, when banded is so cheap, and getting to 135 skill is really not that hard.

banded tunic trivials at 175 cloak and legs trivial at 168 all the rest trivial out at 135.
and the simple fact of the matter is its gonna cost you about 100 or more plat to get your skill up to 135 if you have decent int and str. this is great for the new vah shir toons that are doing their class quests, and it all trivials at 36. you couuld make a full set for about 18 plat. and getting your smithing skill to 36 costs very little money

Banded, being a smither myself,is trivialed in the 90's and VERY low 100's,all this 175 bulls*&% is crazy talk.

They redid the smithing trivials in 2002. This guy was probably right at the time he posted.

I am aware of the trivials for the banded items. My main point is that collecting everything you need to make a set of bloodling plate is almost ridiculously time consuming, and you could easily, within that time, skill up to 135 in smithing. Also, unless money just doesn't matter to you, I would suggest occasionally /oocing that you are smithing, and sell what you can to pc's. It didn't cost me 100pp getting to skill 135 in smithing, I made about 300pp, I sold about 20 stacks of studs to tailors, lots of skewers to bakers, and a few other assorted items. Also, you don't have to reach trivial to have success with the banded armor. I made my first piece at about 105 skill, and made several cloaks just after reaching 135. True, at that level, you won't profit on cloaks, but you can make your own.

A full set of banded would cost about 90pp at normal prices from a smith. I discount full sets to 85pp. It would be much more time effective to hunt animals with pelts during the low levels, sell the pelts to aspiring tailors, and buy banded, than it would to make the bloodling plate. I have seen hq bear sell for as much as 50pp (40 normally) ,and the other hq pelts for 3-5pp each. Medium and low quality usually sell for 1-2pp each. Anyway, if you happened to have the carapaces from your hunting, I guess it wouldn't hurt to get the plate, stick it in a forge with the other ingredients, and combine, but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way for this stuff.

If you don't think banded is better, try this. Make 2 identical characters (warriors preferably) on seperate accounts. dress one in bloodling plate, and the other in banded. Duel. Retreive your bloodling plate from the corpse. Bloodling plate is the smithing equivalent of patchwork leather armor. Not very good, and probably could never sell.

I didnt say Banded wasn't better:) I said they were "Close" to the same AC (15 vs 13 on the tunic), I don't consider that "significantly worse than banded". But, your entitled to your opinion:)

The only other thing I said was how to make the stuff, and that it triv'd out way below Banded. Not much argument there?

Consider this though, What if the two fighting the duel were Shamans and Both were casting sicken? They might easily wish they had an extra 10-15 on their Sv vs Disease as opposed to 20-25 on the AC, yes?

Another example is if they were fighting Fungal Fiends in Paludal Caverns, might they prefer sv vs disease? ::shrugs:: Its all a matter of what your fighting, and taste:)

Besides, this stuff might look Cool:) hehe Most the other Luclin stuff does, no matter what the stats are:) hehe and that is whats important right?, lookin good while yur bashin bad'ns:)?

So what? It doesn't matter that you can do something easier or differently, you might do something just because that's what your character wishes to do. It's called roleplaying, and there ARE still people that do that.
Why plate?
# Jan 04 2002 at 6:42 PM Rating: Decent
This may be a small thing to think of, but this is called Bloodling PLATE Mail, yet useable by banded classes. Not complaining or anything, but i was just thrown off a little. I guess its really nothing to worry about, though. So can anyone tell me if this is a racial armor (though it doesnt seem like it is) or if it can be made by anyone, and also the approximate cost to make it so that i may expect what to pay for this? I would prolly take this over banded to fill slots for my low level ranger (untwinked) because i would like any resists i can get on TZ. Thank you

i have an iksar shaman who went to the cat city to learn some more trade skills... this is a very nice quest. first of all.. its cheap to make (1pp at most per attempt)and it becomes trivial at a skill of 36. eqtraders.com has details about the armor. only negative thing i have to say about it is that it requires 112 bloodling carapaces for a full set of armor. I usually find about 5 an hour... so bring a friend along.

From what a friend of mine told me, you kill the Cht'kah or whatever bloodlings in Shadeweavers. They will rarely drop carapaces, collect 16 of these I think he said. Combine them in a shield frame you buy in the armory in Shar Vahl. Then return this to the armorer to get a plate and repeat til you have two plates. Not sure what you do after this step, something about smithing them with some kind of oil. Approximate cost if you don't buy the carapaces from players I'm guessing around 5 or 6 platinums for the smithing supplies. Hope that helps you, sorry I don't have the exact details though.

I managed to get almost a complete set made and set up on my wood elf ranger and I'm only level 9 now. Had it by level 7 and the pieces I have on set my AC total to 300 with substantial boost to disease resist. Did get my smithing up to almost 50 too just doing this. Only failed twice, once on tunic and once on bracer. The carapaces are a pain to collect yes, but I got exp for most of the stuff until I hit seven when they all went light blue or green. You can collect silks and claws to fill in between to also get tailoring up and make shaded hopperhide stuff too.
