Did the caller cycle recently with a guildie friend. Documented the camp. We got the cloak on the first Katcha before things got too crazy. When I went back later to help some other guild bards, it took a lot longer. It was easy to get overrun with mobs and they have a nasty snare too. The old strategy of tagging aggro on the caller and running away, does NOT work anymore. We tested it. You have to do the caller cycle legitimate now. Video Link https://youtu.be/vaTauSmkpQ4
Just came back from a long time away. Tried this event with a new bard I just made on FV server with some other toons. Cannot find any info, but it seems now Callers are non-aggro? I am unable to aggro with AE song or even auto attack. Tried to do the old trick to get more pops for the named. Anyone able to confirm this? thanks in advance

He spawns during the tarmok event https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1570 during this event named mobs can spawn, this guy being one of them. For better chances, you can turn in multiple kegs at one time (4 slots in trade window all full)... causes between 8 and 12 mobs every 2 minutes.
Using Caller Murkin, turn in 2 Huge Kegs of Blargot, for fast spawnrate (2min). 2x Caller Murkin spawns will repop (he will later become a single spawn again, but summon twice the number of mobs). Follow Murkin to the call area. He will depop/repop again in the far North tunnel. After repop, agro him-- he is now perma-rooted. Make sure you let him depop/repop at his call point. Agroing before he is perma-rooted will cause him to chase you down :)
Agroing him will stop him from attacking the fungoids. They wont agro him unless he attacks them first. Long as he has you on his hate list, he wont attack other mobs, unless you wander too far (ie: going back to the cave-town). Stay invis. Expect 4 mobs or so per wave. Every 5 "calls", he will take a break for a few minutes, then resume.
Read a book, surf the web, whatever. Re-check the spawns every 10 minutes or so. Kill Katcha when he pops. Doesn't seem to be incredibly rare drop. Waiting for him to spawn can take some patience though (took me ~1.5hrs per Katcha spawn).
**Killed Katcha by rooting him, then training the adds to the cave town. Ensured to train agro past every caveman I could. After they ate the train, Caller Murkin had already got owned- as i ran out of agro range, and he attacked some of the fungoids. Katcha stayed up, along with a few friends. Beat them down, and got daddy some new Nike's :)
im a 66 froglok rog with my 1.0 epic and i cant find this dam mob. Im not sure if i should start wiping stuff or what. eventhough im high, i still see alot of darkblues...not sure i should risk death on the chance that this guy might spawn. this is before the patch on feb 22nd 2006 though. they might have lowered the mobs i think, cause fg is a hotspot for 50's again.
Cant be bothered to read some the crap people are writing lol. I tried but couldnt see if anyone mentioned - Can this be cast on others? If so, this is very useful.
No, self only Now that rogues can camp and zone while keeping sneak/hide up, it's only useful to a rogue in a few situations... such as on a mount, you can still invis for long runs.. /shrug/ I have one and that's about all I use it for.
For bards, it's useful because their normal invis song takes about 3 secs to cast, whereas this casts in 1.5 and doesn't require them to use a spell (song) gem.
So yeah, only very limited usefulness now

Also, bards like to use it so they don't invis the whole group and in so doing block their invis. This will cause the invis provided by you to drop if they get out of range and cause some deaths in certain situations.
Soloed this easily as a level 70 Bard. The posts below were a great help. When trash mobs popped, I dragged them up to the camp. When named popped, I charmed it, dragged trash to camp, then pulled named pet away from camp, let charm drop and beat the stuffing out of it. Just melee+dots until health was getting low, then melee+mez to finish it off, (so it couldn't CH itself.)
I tried this method but found the callers would still agro the mobs unless they were beat into submission to about 3% health. It takes along time for them to regen so when they get to about 15% you can kite the mobs up to the camp and let the locals finish them off, then head back down and beat up the caller a bit more.
Skreww, I think you might be misunderstanding what I tried to explain. Unless, Sony has changed the way the event works. In any event, sorry if I wasn't clear. When I posted this.... "and waited until they got to the "calling spots" then quickly aggro'd each pair with an aoe song. That kept them from attacking the mobs since they aren't kos and it keeps them calling more mobs." what I wanted to happen was for you to aoe dot the callers as soon as they got to their "calling spots". What this does is pisses them off at you and makes them try to attack. Problem is they can't hit you since they are perma-rooted. They then start calling mobs but won't attack these mobs since you still have their attention. The callers aren't kos to the mobs. It's the callers that start by attacking them and then the mobs smoke the callers. As long as you don't go all the way up the path to the city, the callers will stay aggro'd on you and keep calling more and more mobs. New ones pop and old ones despawn. All you have to do is stay invis and wait for you named.
When doing this make sure that when some of the named mobs spawn like Takucho (sp) that you wait till they have despawned with all the mobs they buffed because I believe they were all getting sow...which of course would mean death to you.
I did this camp solo as a 65 Bard. I got it on my 4th or 5th Katcha kill. There are excellent How-To guides for bards on the Eqdiva and Concert Hall message boards. This is my technique based on those guides. I gave each of the 3 Callers 2 bottles, 30 seconds apart, and waited until they got to the "calling spots" then quickly aggro'd each pair with an aoe song. That kept them from attacking the mobs since they aren't kos and it keeps them calling more mobs. The Callers don't move from their final spots so they won't chase you. Old ones despawn as new ones are called so it allows you to wait until Katcha pops. Next, I waited invis up in the main room checking track every 3 minutes. When Katcha pops, run up to the city where the original Callers were. This makes the spawned Callers forget you and attack the mobs. Once the Callers die, run back down and and drag the group with Katcha back up to the city and let the locals wipe the normal adds. Either pull-mez or gate Katcha to get them off him and kite him in the main area near where he spawned. Beware the other two tunnels which still have normal mobs in them and that all of Katcha's friends may not have come when you aggro'd his group. Non aggro'd mobs will despawn in about 7 minutes or so. Also, don't get hit by the swarm since they proc snare that = death w/o Fading Memories. Total camp time was about 5 hours. This is a very nice item for a bard. The other named also drop some decent stuff that you an sell after you get your cloak.
Here is a link to the quest as listed on this site. http://www.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=1570
Great advice here... Did just like you said... at first I thought "I have my 65 Druid here I'll melee them" WRONG IDEA!!!!
Suggest you just be patient... Hand the bottles in to the callers let them walk down... agro them... and wait on your named... the name that drops the Fungus patch vest spawns here and there also... didn't get the nice drop but there is a chance that you can..
Good luck to the rest of you that are attempting this!!!
What is the Caller quest exactly? Where in the zone is it at? And what needs to be done to trigger it? From some of the descriptions, it sounds kinda like a mini ring type event. Could anyone give some more specific details please?
I've done this several times now and my impression is that Groo is the easist (3 per wave, higest percentage of small guys), then Torgal (3 per wave, fewer small guys) with Murkin the toughest (4 per wave, higher percentage of named). The named hit a bit harder and have quite a few more hp, so they can cause you to run into the next wave. I got my cloak during a Torgal raid, but I'm not certain if particular named are attached to particular callers. It may only seem that way.
BTW, they are all bard charmable, though with only FT1 I ran out of mana after a couple of hours.
kind of useless for us rogues imo... if its just like an invis... as I run just as fast sneaking and hiding as I do not. Now if it works like the aa ability thats a horse of a different color. For bards I could def see the use for it. Its a fast cast invis. but as far as the person who said it takes 2 groups to do this... nopie before pop came out when we used to go here for fun... we only used one group with a lot of dps and a good enchanter in the fastest caller place. Monk, rogue, war, wizzy, cler, ench will do just fine as long as you are decently equiped.
This cloak is particularly useful for -zoning-. Rogue hide/sneak and AA SoS does not work while zoning. And no, it's not like AA SoS, the SoS on this cloak is just an invis spell.
Something to think about, you get it at 63 and it costs 6 aa. The required level on the item is 55. Now between the 8 levels and 6 aa do you still not find this useful? What if you did manage to get this at 55 and you have a whipe out in some place full of see invis. I really think this would be useful.
I asked some rogues questions but one is still unanswered. If you have SoS and use it in pvp will the other player see you if he/she has see invis on himself/herself?

The AA ability and this invis spell are not the same. The AA SoS is only active when hide is enabled. A mob that sees through spell invis will be KoS to a rogue with any form of invis spell on them, including this item. Example - trilioun champion in Plane of Water sees through spell invis. With sneak/hide and SoS, you can swim by safely but at a slow pace due to the speed of swim with sneak on. If you try swimming by the same mob with the invis from this cloak, you will get attacked.

Yes, any form of see invis on another player will make you visible regardless if you have SoS.

I see this post was made several years ago and I am unsure if it has changed in that time as I did not have SoS on my rogue until recently, but a rogue using SoS nowadays can not be seen by other players with see invis. I box several toons, and most have a worn see invis effect and when I use SoS on my rogue, my other toons can't see him. In fact, if I have him targeted and then hit hide/sneak (SoS) he disappears off of their target box as well.
question....just how is an invis cloak "really useful in a place full of see invis" ? seems to me, since they see invis, it would indeed be useless there.
It would be useful in a place full of see-invis if it's anything like a Rogue's ability to SoS at lvl 63, because even mobs that see invis do not see through SoS.
This cloak is one of the best ways to break charm reliably and quickly during a bard swarm kite. There are other items with clicky-invis, but this is the only one that sits in the otherwise-let-me-put-fishing-grubs-here-so-i-can-leave-them-there-when-i-die-and-can't-get-a-rez slot we all love and know as the ammo slot.
Beats having to drag out a flute and spend a slot for invis song. We all know bard Hide skill caps at like 40 or 45 so it's not reliable.
I'll sure as hell be getting one of these. Not to mention it's free so long as you're high enough level to earn it.
Our group camped this spot on the lowest "setting" of the caller quest. In that 4 hours we saw the guy that drops this three times. Two of those times he dropped this.
The duration isn't fixed. If you are not a rogue/bard you can't use it from inv. If you are a rogue/bard you can.
I was pretty happy to get one as a bard. Bard invis is group only, so when grouped and haveing to go somewhere invis I tended to degroup so I didn't overwrite and kill someone.
With this I can single invis myself. Very nice trinket I think.
Maybe not killing another player. But I have pissed off many pet casters, by running to or from group to do scouting/pulling ... whatever...with Selo's Song of Travel, and nuking there pets.
I've been told by many people this guy isn't that rare, and that a few hours does the trick to get the cloak, but let me tell you - he can be pretty rare. I was camping him for about 10 hours with a fast group. Nada.
I am a 54 rogue, who got this item in his 40's...finally i will get to use it soon. I just wanna make sure of one thing though, can it be cast on others? I know it would certainly come in handy to get people from place to place in zones like KC..
If you scroll to the bottom of this page, you'll see that some time ago a monk tried to use it from inventory and could not. I do not know for sure if it has changed since then, but it would be a super nice item for everyone if you could.
WE were doing the caller cycle and this item droped no one in either group could use it and i had a lvl 33 rogue parked in SH so i ran him there to loot It. My rogue is halfelf and agnostic..When i try to put it in ammo slot i get this message (Wrong Deity / class) to use..now my question,,Is that the message you recieve when u try to equiped an item with a lvl restriction? Or is it some kind of bug?
Hello Norrathians, Just curious to all of you that have killed this dude as to how hard he is. I really want this thing, being a rogue and all lol. Me and some friends were thinking about fetching one fer me, ya think a 52paladin, 49shaman, 40 rogue, 37 ranger, and a 40-some-odd cleric(Not sure whut lvl she is atm havntbeen on fer a while) could take this MOB? Plz reply if ya got anything that might be helpful.
just got this item. minimum 12 people to do this cycle.. and 12 is w/ an enchanter mezzing the add. we had problems when 2 named mobs popped.. lots of hp on the named ones.
At 40 you can't use it, get 15 more levels =) The onther poster is right, your group would get nailed like the new guy in jail, even with the slowest spawn rate on this quest I've seen a 53-60 (60 warr and sham, others were 53 +) group get waxed on the 2nd spawn. This quest is rough and the almost unresistable AE snare doesn't make it any easier
this is part of the caller quest in fungus grove. There is no way your group could take it. Basically you have to be able to deal with 3-4 mobs at a time constantly, for a few hours straight, and wait for the rares like katcha to spawn. This means 1 balanced group of 55+ with great gear, or a few smaller groups. Everything that spawns seems level 50+ and procs a snare spell that seems impossible to resist.
You'd best check that with your local Bard. The item gives Invis to living/dead to Rogues innately, as do all regular invises for Rogues. It doesn't work that way for Bards however (providing only regular Invisibility at present).
It is still a nice Bard item and provides Rogues with a zoning invisibility effectively. Hitting Hide/Sneak on a zone is generally reliable but this helps for safety.

Posted:Jan 06 2002 at 3:40 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) what creature drops the item i would like to know who i need to persue and kill to upgrade my armor i am lvl 25 non-twink and still have some really crappy stuff like barbed armplates
It says katch drops it(look at where it says what drops it) and if you're only 25 there is no way you could get this item unless you find a few real nice groups that will let you tag along (see where it says NO DROP and lvl to attain as 50). Just a few things that should be brought to the attention of someone who obviously can't see things on a computer monitor.
I am a 60 rogue.. and i have this item and it is VERY nice.. and its more than invis.. its rogue sneak/hide invis(undead also) and lasts 2min.. this is really good when your zoning to a place that has mobs directly on the other side because when a rogue zones.. there is a split second that he is not able to hit hide and is exposed.. also when running to say ToV.. and you dont have invis cast on you.. sneak/hide swimming is painfully slow.. and the last is you do not get stats from items in ammo so this is perfect item for that slot.. as far as where it came from.. you might want to talk to a caller in FG...
As a 60 rogue, i seriously hope that you know that ~any~ sort of invis spell on you would act like sneak/hide... if you don't believe me go to lguk and have some ranger cast Improved Camo on you and run around and con the ghouls....
2 min is way better then nothing at all, i can get you in a zone and hopefully to a safe spot to get sneek off or get an invis from someone else in the zone.
