10 Rogue with this wep, around 130 Str BS for 80. BS skill about 41ish. GL
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 20 2003 at 2:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I saw a guy in PC using this dmg, but it was 123/30 (WTF) he said he found it while a GM event was going on, so it is really strong.
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 18 2003 at 2:18 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) is this weapon really any good it has a kinda long dely?
My Rogue
# Jan 10 2003 at 3:18 AM Rating: Decent
ok...here it is, plain and true:
the extra 2 disease dmg on this IS added to the backstab and normal dmg DEPENDING on the resists of the monster. IF that monster has a high enough resist so that the disease dmg is taken out, then yes, it can basically be called a normal 13/28...HOWEVER, disease resist is normally one that is quite low on mobs and it is safe to say that this really is a 15dmg wpn most of the time...
My rogue has tried both this and the dragonbone shard and let me tell you, the dmg on this was definately better. I managed a 348 bs at lvl 41 with this, whilst the best I ever made with the shard was 302...
good or bad idea?
# Dec 04 2002 at 9:30 PM Rating: Good
Would this be good to duel wield with a velium swiftblade? i know the dmg/dly suck but that leaves a spot for a nice belt and a nice pair of gloves. i mean if the VSB is 40% haste, you hit like a crzy person and your BS comes back faster.
might be wrong, flame at will.

VSB has 36% haste, not 40%, but even still using a VSB in the offhand with this in primary is not a bad idea, especially at lower levels. While personally I think using a VSB is a bad idea for any other melee class, there is certainly a very good arguement that can be made for a rogue using one, since so much of their damage output is dependent on the primary hand.

I have a lvl 28 rogue and this has nothing to do with this weapon, even thought this is a great weapon, but i got this Blackguard's Dudgeon, 12/27 we:0.9 dex+2, and I have a Crystaline Spider Fang, 10/22 wt:5.0 str+3 svcold+10 proc: velium shards, now that was in my primary for a while, but I just got that Blackguard Dudgeon for 550pp, and the delay isn't too bad, so its not too bad for primary, when I got it I put it right in my secondary, but Im starting to debate on wether to put that in primary for more dmg for my hits and BS, since my skill is still kinda low, only 117, and my str is only 102... which weapon should go in primary and in secondary? or are there any suggestions for a better weapon then the CSF thats aroud maybe 500-700pp? any ideas?

this old argument again?

The disease damage is added to the base damage of the weapon, at least where backstab is concerned. Remeber the patch where they added it about 2 months ago? Well the sorta messed up the code so everytime you backstabbed it kept adding the modifier type damage (using this weapon as an example)...13 + 2 the first time...then 15 + 2 ....then 17 + 2... until the weapon damage got to 255 at which point it would reset to normal damage if you kept backstabbing with it and start the process all over again. Well that lasted for about 5 hours before there was an emergency patch to fix things. Rogues figured it out pretty quick and there are some amazing screen shots still going around of rogues hitting things for 2.5 k damage with normal hits, not backstabs. Given this series of events, I can't see how anyone still believes that the bane/poison/magic/whatever modifier damage is not added to the base damage of the weapon.

not 15/28
# Mar 23 2002 at 2:41 PM Rating: Default
I see lots of people thinking this thing is 15/28, but its not. The bane dammage works just like the Dammage bonus. So basically you get +2 bane dammage and your normal bonus dammage.
RE: not 15/28
# Mar 26 2002 at 2:18 PM Rating: Excellent
Not true... it is 13/28, but the +2 Disease Damage is checked for as part of base damage (unlike the damage bonus). It can be 13/28-15/28, depending on resists. If you disagree, go look at the parsed logs for it on Safehouse.

Madpoet is right, it is added to base dmg. I have a set of these that I usually wield. I have tried other piercers that were 13 dmg but I was able to hit harder with this dagger. yes I know they're slower than others, but I'm poor and haven't tried for others yet.

Nice find
# Jan 11 2002 at 8:47 AM Rating: Default
Well grab em while you can...if you find em from a vendor I would buy it...this has a very similar ratio to the small dragonbone shard...13/26. The shard I've seen go for up to 10k. This is obviously not as good but its close...great stabs with this thing. I could forsee this item once more widely discovered becoming a rogue standard much like crystal grinder (9/27).

I am not trying to make any rogues mad,but i just picked up 3 of these from a vendor..I will not say the price that i paid, but it made me laugh..also the bane dmg is not used in the BS..it is just dmg of weapon/skill/str..my brothers lvl 13 rogue is BSing for 81 with this little weapon. this is just my little 2 cp worth..

So what's your point? Bragging that you're twinking me.. er, I mean your brother.. =~)
This weapon OWNS for my rogue, who is 15, not 13!
I'm piercing for 29 on average, and yes, backstabbing for 81 (with a skill of 56 in BS and 80 in piercing).

just my 2cp...

I picked up one of these while in Gfay looking for a small dragonbone shard. The shard is a little faster but I think I got a good deal on this at 1.5k. The backstabs are great...its pretty fast and it looks pretty damn cool check it out....

Ignorant Cleric Question

I've got a question about this weapon and other piercing weapons that rogues can use. I am a cleric, so I don't know too much about weapons as a whole, but my best friend is a rogue so I'm always on the lookout for good rogue weapons :). This is what I understand to be true so correct me if I'm wrong. This weapon is 13/28 and with each hit checks against disease. If the opponent does not resist the disease check, then this weapon has the potential to hit as 15/28. I am also to understand that rogue's backstab potential is exponential to the damage on the weapon (ie a weapon with a damage of 10 can BS for 200, while a weapon with a damage 11 can BS for 250 at that lvl/str/skill). Now here is my question: When a rogue backstabs with this weapon, does the BS calculate as if the damage on it is 13 all the time? Or can it potentially backstab as if the damage was 15 on the weapon when the opponent does not resist the disease check? Any information on this, or a correction to my current understanding on the topic is appreciated. Still, this weapon looks like something I would like to get for him. Thank you.
RE: Ignorant Cleric Question
# Jan 04 2002 at 4:06 AM Rating: Decent
I think the two previous posts of the disease damage not working in the backstab are correct. I have tested this dagger on my 24 rogue. My 10 dmg weapon I was backstabbing around 90s or so, dont think I ever broke 100. When I started using this I was doing average of 110, max of 126. But can prob do more if strength was higher of course :)
I dont know much about backstabbing but seems strength has good deal to do with it... or its completely coincidence. Since my strength is like 90 (halfling)...9x10 = about 90, 9x13 = 127 about :)

Currently the bane damage (and most likely other damage modifiers) are not added to backstab. The 12dmg bane vampire poker, with a base damage of 1, will see backstabs like that of a 1dmg weapon when used against vampires. The rogue using this weapon, can't remember level but somewhere around 50th, had a max BS of about 50dmg.

According to checks done on the safehouse, (www.thesafehouse.org), resistance-based damage bonuses do not get considered as part of the base for backstab damage. In other words, the 13 damage is what would be used in the backstab damage multiplier equation.

With that said, SoL has hardly been out long enough for any studies to be totally conclusive on the matter. I'd suggest checking out the forums over at the safehouse to see the combat logs though.

Disease Damage
# Jan 03 2002 at 7:19 PM Rating: Default
This is an interesting weapon. The ratio isn't all that bad, and (if I remember correctly) disease resistance is one of those that is usually not as strong as most other resistances. I might go see if I can get one of these just to see...
