These dropped tonight off the named vampire Gorelaz Verilak. Has a ton of hps.

<edit>

I wanted to clarify this a bit. This named vampire has alot of hitpoints. I was using my 56 beastlord and wife had a 56 shaman. We killed him but he tested both our abilities. We are not twinked.

As for the gauntlets..

I created a Shadow Knight. All stats came to full when my defense reached a skill of 25. The effect "Vampric Embrace" did not become usable until lvl 25. My SK uses SCHW's so I just kept these gauntlets in a main slot and hot keyed it. Being that the spell does not last long, it is easy to right click or hit the appropriate key.

Hope this information helps any of those that had questions.

Regards to all,
Woneye

The right-clickable Vampiric Embrace effect begins working at Level 25.
Now in a convenient location.
# Aug 16 2005 at 2:31 PM Rating: Default
Clickable from inventory as well. Must still be the appropriate class, however.

Also thought I'd add that yes, it is indeed 25, no lower.

I was told by the guy who I bought these from that they proc at level 5, that is if your defense is up to 25. Well I got mine to 50 now and I am at level 15, yet the darn things won't work. They give the usual, "You are not high enough level to use this item." Or some such thing.

Does it not proc until later, and did the seller just lie to me?

Or is something wrong? I would think they should work since I am getting full benefits from them.

I was told that they don't proc until 45, when I did a shout in Bazaar, but I do believe the person was mistaking them for the Blood Ember gear.

Someone please put some info to help me. Thanks.

The Gauntlet's "stats" are affected by the level of your defense... the higher your defense, the better the stats. You will gain the full value of the items stats when your defense skill reaches (25), obtainable by lvl 5.

The clickable spell effect is "level" restricted, so you will only be able to click on the effect once you've reached the correct level (22 to cast spell)

This does not stack with any other "leech-proc adding" spells, including (but not limited too) Werewolf form, Scream of Death, or my personal favorite: Mental Corruption

edit: by the way, the effect is the ShadowKnight Vamp Embrace, which lifetaps between 19 and 25 damage from level 22 to 50 and lasts about 6 minutes.

If this helps Rate the post accordingly!

These drop from one of the winged Vampyres in the big castle. It is the first that our puller came across. We did quite a few of these easy with a lvl 60 Cleric 56 Druid and 59 Warrior.

NOT Nec VE
# Jan 24 2002 at 6:05 AM Rating: Decent
Just for everyones information these gloves are indeed now SK only which, unfortunately, use our lvl22 Vampiric Embrace spell NOT the Nec version. Maybe they once did before the 'nerf' against warriors but now they don't.

Still a great item but you should be aware of this before you camp/purchase them.

Nerfed as of today. Only Sk's can now use the item. Gossip I just got for you.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 03 2002 at 12:53 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I would love to have these gaunts! Most of the time i dont bother recasting vamperic embrace cause it takes a bunch of mana and it lasts only a short time. This would allow me to cast it every battle mana free. The other stats on these gaunts are awsome too! 16ac+10agi! and then some resists and str too! I hope these are camped up the whazoo so they wont be that expensive... i ened the have these and i want to have em at an affordable price =P This would be awsome if a warrior was duel wielding two procing weps plus this hehe then with dex gear and some buffs it would be like the warrior is the nuker too lol.

What does..
# Jan 01 2002 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
What does recommended skill defense of 25 mean? And are these quest items or dropped? Since there is a quest involving one of the Coterie for a mask with clickable FD, and now these gloves, maybe there are other pieces that haven't ben found yet. I nice alternative to BE armor.
RE: What does..
# Feb 24 2002 at 10:32 PM Rating: Decent
Recommended skill of 25 defense means that until your defense skill is level 25 or higher, you can not equip the item. this is to keep from having so many twinks in the game. Try hunting in Umbral Plains is you think 25 defense is high. Most of the stuff there can not be equiped until you are lvl 50 or higher.
RE: What does..
# Feb 01 2004 at 2:45 AM Rating: Default
No, that would be REQUIRED Defense of 25. Recommended Defense 25 just means that they won't give their full stats until 25.

Anyway, I fail to see the point of this feature of the gloves. It's not 'anti-twinking' at all. I just made an SK today and twinked him with these gloves... got him to lvl 6 in a quick sitting and he already has over 25 Defense. By the time you're high enough to use the effect on them, your defense should be around 100.
Hrm... level of spell?
# Jan 01 2002 at 4:50 PM Rating: Decent
Well, I am a necro and I know that vampiric embrace starts out pretty low (like a 20someodd point tap) but it increases until level 60. So it gets to be pretty large. Now, what level would this proc cast at? Our lowest level, ie not super awsome? Or a highr level making it a super awsome item? If it's too low, you'd be better off getting boon, most raids, seeing as boon and vamp embrace don't stack.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 01 2002 at 2:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) nice gloves! nice ac and with lots of agi to add to that ac! and the vamp embrace....omg. and if u people are right and it procs for more than the normal sk version....w00t, with the spell i proc a good 3-5 times per battle with 118 dex. with these i could save a gem slot and not have to keep using mana to cast every 2 or so minutes..../sigh, wish i had these

Actually KorraVeldriss you are an idiot too.

Pallys and SKs soak up close up close to the same damage as Warriors (remember they upped your defensive cap to be the same as warriors?)

As for best damage dealer, we come in 4th. Rogue then monk and then Ranger, that's right ranger. Rangers have a higher offensive skill and if they are of the same level as the warrior will outdamage him most of the time.

As for our cobalt giving us all sorts of spells. well yes we get invis, str, shrink, 10pts of ac, serpent sight, and if we are lucky enough to see a BP the same 90pt 12 sec heal that rangers pallys rogues and monks get on their uber BPs: Invigorate. These spells do not change the fact that a warrior cannot solo. SKs have us at a massive disadvantage there.

I do have to agree with you about getting other classes niftiest abilities being crap though. It breaks my heart when I see rogues and monks getting criticals. that was the last unique and wonderful thing warriors had going for them and now it is reduced to something you can buy.

Even though a rogue or a monk can "buy" the ability to score critical hits during melee, by the same token a warrior can buy the exact same thing to keep them far ahead of the criticals of the other melee classes. I just wanted to point that out. Also, warriors are still the only class to score crippling blows... can you imagine having your normal critical hit ability, plus the added ability of the post-50 skills, and *then* scoring a crippling blow? Imagine that hit. =)

A few things to ponder... Warriors can score critical hits on a bash or a kick. Does this mean that rogues can score critical hits on a backstab, since it's also an "extra attack" ability (throw in double backstab and WOW)? Will the added critical hit table from the post-50 skillset increase the chance of a high level rogue to assassinate an NPC outright? Will this critical hit table from the post-50 skillset increase the chance of a monk using Ashenhand to kill an NPC outright? How about special monk attacks, like Flying Kick? Will this added ability to score critical hits severely impact the damage from a ranger using the Trueshot discipline? Will paladins score higher critical hits against undead NPCs, or will these criticals come much more often, while using the Holy Forge discipline?
RE: blah
# Jan 02 2002 at 4:34 AM Rating: Decent
Crippling only happens at low hp, doesn't happen that much, you mentioned that as a plus, but i hardly see anyone do crippling unless partnered with a cleric, never in a raid or group. And i think it has affected assasination. Saw one outright bomb shady in ec the other day, then do it again on the next pop. Might be just luck, but shady was hurtin that day...

Blah crips aren't that rare. They are just like crits except while beserk. I kept a level 60 warrior beserk in velks floor for like 5 hours the other day. Sup healed at 1 bub of life up to 2 bubs(remedy wasn;t enough, DL, elix too much
) He got mad crippling blows. High kick was 73, hit was 983. Got crips using throwing hammers too.
RE: blah
# Jan 02 2002 at 11:43 PM Rating: Default
All this seems to be off the topic of above item, but I will add to this current thread, crippling blows are rare. However, they do not wait for low hps and are totally random it seems, my warrior(lvl 24) scored several crippling blows (so far that I can remember) from the first blow. The ones I do remember is when pulling with my bow, I have landed a few 95 point damage crippling hits with the rough recurve darkwood and class3 arrows. Its an eye opener for sure. I can only imagine what a ranger could do with this critical and discipline skills.
RE: blah
# Jan 04 2002 at 3:40 PM Rating: Decent
No.....

Crippling Blows ONLY happen after you have gone Beserk, meaning under 2 bubs of health or 2/5 life left. Your Beserk will continue until you are back up to just below half health, they only time you will EVER score a Crippling Blow is between 0 health and 2/5 life left or if you have been beserk and are being healed just below half health.

Those hits you had with your Bow (and i get a critical almost every time on my bow) had to have been a Critical Hit. I have a 31 Warrior that I have leveled, and de-leveled to work up every attack style, and I have never seen a critical hit above 50% health.

Happy Hunting!!!
RE: blah
# Apr 20 2002 at 10:49 PM Rating: Decent
Sorry friend, I disagree. I have seen cripling blows and friends did compliment. Going beserk may increase the chance that it happens but does not limit only in beserk mode. Its very rare and I do see the difference in spelling. I have crippled many times with the Gnoll Hide Lariot (not much though) do to the weapons speed. Dex has a factor of influencing the percentage of crits and crips. It can happen at FULL health and I have done it with that bow on pulls and barely get away cause I am in surprise shock when it does. And yes I CRIT heckava more often then CRIP.
RE: blah
# Jan 02 2002 at 1:59 AM Rating: Decent
Yes, Rogues can score critical hits with backstabs. If you are really lucky you can get a double-critical Duelist backstab for a pretty obscene amount of damage too I suppose ;) To my knowledge it has no impact on Assassinates.

In the end though, the crits are more eye-candy than anything. It does add a touch more damage to the classes that can get it but it isn't exactly a huge increase. They are pretty darn rare after all.
procs at lvl 25....
# Jan 01 2002 at 1:32 AM Rating: Decent
guess my war is a "super twinkie" anyway the gloves do proc at 25 that is what lvl i was when my friend gave them to me i am now lvl 34 and they proc for 45 or 44 hp's they been slowly adding 1 hp per lvl i gain i Dont know what mob they dropped off he won them with his 55 ench
Pretty good item
# Dec 31 2001 at 4:45 PM Rating: Decent
I dont know what mob drop these gaunts, but at least I was allowed to use them once just to right-click on them.

The effect lasts around 9-12 minutes. It gives you the chance to proc a lifetap from melee attacks.
At level 60, the lifetap was of 72 HP.

Nice aggro getter.

Worth having in your backpack if you have better AC gaunts.

This is a very low taunt proc. I'd say it's equal to doing the same damage in straight up melee.
RE: Pretty good item
# Dec 31 2001 at 6:23 PM Rating: Decent
If you got a lifetap of 72hp then this is the Necro version of the spell, which is really nice since the Sk version taps for less than half as much at that lvl. (I think)
Recommended skill
# Dec 31 2001 at 12:59 PM Rating: Excellent
I thought we had only seen recommended levels so far ... I guess this has the same effect in practice. Two questions though ^^
1/ Does not meeting the requirement in skill cause a reduction of the AC, which I've understood is the case for Umbral Plains recommended levels items ?
2/ Why do they recommend Defense for this item ? It might make sense to be able to use the effect (maybe in fact it doesn't proc as long as you don't have the requisite skill), but if anyone has a different idea I'd love to hear it ;) (hmm, vampiric defense)
