i think i already know the answer to this question, but if you have 2 items with a dodge mod, do they both come into play, or does only the one with the higher mod come into play?

Heh -- if you trully believe that while dual wielding your secondary has anything at all to do with your primary then put a fire beetle eye in your primary and a weapon in secondary. Secondary will swing on it's delay timer depending on dual wield score and level. The formula to determine the % chance you will swing with your secondary when it's weapon delay is up is as follows: (level + dual wield skill) / 400. This means that at level 48 with dual wield of 252 (monks can achieve this) you would have a 75% chance to dual wield. So using a 20 delay weapon in off hand unhasted you would swing it every 2 seconds 75% of the time -- theoretically getting 3 swings every 8 seconds (with one delay increment being a failed dual wield check). Hope this cleared up some peoples' understanding of dual wield, but i'm sure i confused more people than i helped. 8)
With dual weild it depends upon the primary weapon's delay and your skill in Dual Weild. Every time your primary swings there is a check to see if you will have a dual weild happen. If the check is positive then the secondary weapon comes into play. It will attack as often as it's delay allows during the primary's delay. Example: Your primary has a delay of 50. Secondary has a delay of 24. The primary swings and the check for dual weild is positive. Your secondary will attack twice before the next check. 24*2=48. The next check is the next time your primary attacks. You put the lower delay in the Primary slot so that you will generate a dual weild check more often. If the secondary's delay is high it will still get at least one swing on each positive check.
If I put a wurmslayer in primary, and a velium dagger in secondary, The primary swings every 4.0 seconds (unhasted). The secondary however, CAN swing (possibly twice, with double attack) every 1.9 seconds, regardless of whether the primary is "reset".
IF the secondary does not swing, it is because it failed the dual weild check, not because it is waiting on the primary.
THEY ARE NOT LINKED. Try it.
put a real slow weapon in primary, the slower the better, and a real fast weapon in secondary. you'll see something like this:
YOU slash %t for 45 points of damage YOU pierce %t for 6 points of damage YOU pierce %t for 3 points of damage YOU pierce %t for 1 points of damage You try to Pierce %t but miss You Slash %t for 16 points of damage
Not evey time, of course, since to get 4 hits you would need a successful dual wield, AND DOUBLE attack roll.
But you only need to see it once, to know they are not linked.

Posted:Feb 27 2002 at 6:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) when u talk about what weaps to use, gotta think of the delay. having 2 9/18 weaps are much better than a 12/23 and a 9/18 because the offhanded jade mace has to wait for the primary at 23 delay to swing whereas the 2 jade maces are swinging same time.
heh -- put a fire beetle eye in your primary and a weapon in your secondary -- your method of dual wielding means you'd never swing then -- the correct method means (depending on level and dualwield skill) you swing with secondary every time the secondary weapon delay cycle is up and it passes the dual wield check. Try it and see for yourself.
Primary and Off-hand weapons swing independently of each other. Completely. If they didn't, no one would EVER use a Wurmslayer simply because you could get 2hs weapons with same stats for 10x less than Slayer.
Such as is the case, 2 JM's are still much better than having a 12/23 in Main and JM in off; simply because you get much more swings with Jade.
I have heard people saying all the time about how the offhand wep only strikes when the main hand swings...makes no sense at all. By the logic presented in that If you had a 18 delay wep in mainhand and and a 50 delay wep in offhand, the 18 delay 9 damage and the 50 was 20 damage...you would have the chance to strike with the 50 delay wep everytime you swung your 18 delay. That is absurd. Make a char that uses duel wield and try it out...your hands do indeed swing independently. All you have to do is watch your melee with your hits and misses on to see that. The reason alot of ppl commonly put their higher delay/higher damage wep in offhand is simple. A faster wep in mainhand means more hits with the damage bonus applied and more chances for double attack to go off on the hand with damage bonus. Since offhand gets no damage bonus, is ok to put a slower wep with more damage there. At least this is what I see when I am playing, and only makes sense to me.
Actually in this case the 50 delay weapon would have a chance to swing once every third swing of your primary weapon.
In order for your secondary weapon to swing you have to wait out it's delay, then have a successfull roll on your Dual Wield skill when your primary weapon swings. If your secondary weapon has a less or equal delay to your primary weapon you will attempt to dual wield every time you swing your primary weapon(not counting double attack).
If you aren't able to get an secondary weapon with equal or less delay than your primary hand weapon, you might as well try for the most damage you can get without going over double the delay of your primary.
If this makes any sense to anyone then you are a better person than me.
It is a complete myth that your secondary weapon can only swing when your primary does. Primary and secondary weapons are on their OWN cycles. If you dont believe just get a Wurmslayer in your primary and a blunt/peirce weapon with delay of 20 or less in your secondary, you will observe that at points you will swing your secondary 4 times between each set of primary swings. (Assuming you have dual wield and double attack of course :)
The times that you appear to swing your off hand twice before you swing your primary.... do you have your misses turned off? You probably missed with the Primary and hit with the offhand. If you do not keep a log of your misses, then... yes, it will appear that you will swing your offhand twice before your primary.
The way the game is designed. For you to swing your offhand, you must have a successful Dual Wield roll. If your delay on the off hand is longer than the primary, then the delay requirement for the offhand has to met before the dual wield check will be made again. The higher your Dual wield skill... the greater the chance you will have a successful dual wield.
Think about it for a moment, add a bit of common sense too. If off hand swings independently... what is the need for dual wield skill. You would just need to have a skill of 1 in dual wield so you could hold 2 weapons. After that it would be useless.
Not quite. The rate at which your off hand tries to swing is dependant upon the weapon in yor off hand, not your dual wield skill. Each time it tries to swing, its got to pass the dual wield check.
However, you are correct in saying that the two hands work independantly of each other.
I tried to get the Mace, but the guy that drops it is certainly interesting. He is an enchanter that quads or triples for 400ish (without defensive discipline) and will banish players to a jail cell on the other side of the zone every so often. Tried to get him with 1 group, but we kept getting banished which made it impossible. He casts a spell to do the banishing, but because of his level 60ish level, I don't think he can be interrupted. I don't think he has a ton of HP, but you'd certainly need at least 2 groups to take him and do enough damage quickly. Anybody else have any tips/advice?
The Goranga Spiked Club in Maiden's Eye is a replacement for the Jade Mace. The 12/23 is enough to make it a replacement not to mention the 5 ac and 2 strength that comes along w/ it.
Wow -- you just totally mixed and matched 3 different formulas from monkly-business and dropped a factor of 2. The correct formulas are to determine a comparitive modal -- not a ratio. Ratio is the short hand method of comparing weapons that is commonly determined by delay / damage. To figure out comparitive modals you need to do a bit more math but it is a much better indicator of how different weapons of similar ratios and/or different weapon skills (1hand vs. 2hand)compare to each other.Formula for determinimg modals is as follows: Primary modal = (damage * 2 + damage bonus) / Delay Secondary modal = damage * 2 * dualwield probability / delay
1 hand damage bonuses are = (level-25)/3 2 hand damage bonuses are based on 1 hand damage bonus + an amount determined by delay -- can't remember exactly how but I usually just look at a link of the weapon I want to calculate for
dualwield probability = (level + dualwield skill)/400
while dualwielding just add the primary and secondary modals for the total modal to compare it to a 2 hander's modal to see which does better damage.
Btw all this info has been shamelessly stolen (I like to call it "borrowed") from www.monkly-business.com
This is a great weapon for monks.. the +agi and the great ratio make it a pretty item. I could see why warriors might want it.. 200sta and then 120agi makes for a great tank.
Matpa is on an upper floor in a building in at the back of the zone. Most of the NPC's in the building don't see invis but there are 2 guards (red to 54) that do see invis at the doorway to his room. Matpa is a male gnome dressed in plate armor. Good races should con dubious to everything in the building if you didnt mess up your faction. Evils are KOS. You take some bad faction hits hunting in this city that make running around certain zones unpleasent.
Could someone that has killed him please give a comparison to a known mob?
I plan on doing more research with a suicidal monk. Will post if I find anything out.
--update--
What Alien said - heh. Took my monk there and went through one round of hits to see his damage output. If I remember correctly he hit me for 412, 200ish and 300ish. Then got a rune and decided to see if he would cast. Same as Alien, I got banished.
Any guild strong enough to get this weapon will be able to get better weapons. My advice is to forget about it - I have.
Well, based around the price of a Jade Mace, I would have to say between 15k - 20k. This has 1 more damage than Jade Mace, the +5% Dodge is VERY nice, and the +5 Agi is a nice bonus as well. Not to mention, this drops off a 60-65? NPC and Im sure is pretty rare.
Either way, I would love to have one for my monk. This would end up to be around 10/16 or so with my RBG and I would certainly love to dodge 5% more.
Actually, I just saw something that changed my mind on the price of this. I expect the price of this to be more around 30k+. I just saw how much Swiftblade of Zek goes for (80k+) and its 11/18, 100hp, 10str, 25mana. This is also All/All making it go up in value.
Nice to see them adding in more nice items that are not swords. I'm sick to death of seeing Sword of "insert element/name/title" and the tons of other slashers. I know there is pretty good weapons for all the weapon skills, but they are few and far between, usually all high end drops too. They need to fill out the other weapon skills with decent weapons of various levels. Just curious but is anyone else getting bored with the class stereotype weapons? I.E Warriors with swords (1 and two handed), Rogues and daggers, etc... They seem to have trouble poping out original weapons lately.
Sure, it's nice to see variety on weapons now, but the whole class stereotype weapons thing is a little off, I think. Rogues have their daggers because they're a piercing class. They have backstab, which you need a piercer for. And I don't think Warriors really have a stereotypical weapon. You see most warriors with slashers because that's what's available to them. To get a decent blunt weapon a warrior has to spend 6 or 7kpp on a Jade Mace, whereas he can spend 4-5k on a Lamentation, or 3-4k on a CSS. And since good slashers tend to be the cheapest throughout a warrior's lifetime, that's the skill that gets trained the most.
Hey whats that blunt weapon that is 10/18 without those stats. it just slipped my mind. im guessing this is the upgrade to it. i think its a jade mace or wus fighting baton but im not sure
The weapon you are thinking of is a Jade Mace which drops in Karnor's Castle. This weapon is 9/18 with no stats and a damage bonus of 8(not sure on dmg bonus). This weapon would be a good upgrade to the mace with the added damage and Agility.
The Damage Bonus field for 1h weapons is level based. A char with 8 bonus on this would have an 8 delay on the jade mace too (both are one-handed weapons).
