PISKA HERE I am here to tell you that this item is a very great item. I use it for a level 65 magician. magic item. Unknown worth because they are rarely sold. I would speculate that getting this item takes much longer than would be reasonable. I wear this unless i am on a corpse run.

common drop....

Certainly not a common drop, I was lucky enough to get the cape to drop after about 10-12 cycles of all the named.

I have farmed the vamp castle for months now, and only a week ago have I seen this cloak drop... And after that next kill he droped another! Seems very, very rare. It has more int/mana than some of the best dropable caster cloaks.

I have soloed this castle for 40+ hours now and that is 40 trilexior spawns .. I have not ever seen this drop, matter of fact he drops gems only for me, nothing else and this is after 40 tries. either my luck is horrible or the common drop rate is BS.

P.S. i was just reading the posts below and noticed a few questions i can answer. This castle has 3 floors. There is a named on each floor and one wanderer who flys between all the floors. trilexior is on the top floor. There is another way to get to him ..) which i have discovered. if you walk to the back of the castle you will find a balcony that you can walk onto if you have lev. there are 2 easy vamps there and trilexior is wandering, so be careful.

yeah, on many occasions i hunted here with a 58dru, 60wiz, 60sk and a 62cleric and the top of the castle, trying to get this cape among a few other things... me and the wiz both got a staff of the blood beast...never saw the cape, but saw about 10 other staffs rot. that'll give you an idea of how "common" this cape is =P

That was the combo we used last night when it dropped. He is a long standing friend of mine in game and we seem to have a knack of doing things without saying a word. YES, the fights were a little long at times, I would not advise pets with the wander effect.

I had NO problem slowing them at all. Did not once see them try to gate either. By the end of the fight, I was FM and the Warrior was FH.

End of the day, YES it is a long fight, yes you can get adds without a big group so be careful. Lotta nice drops though including Blue Diamonds. I will be going back there time and again, exp still decent at 56 also.

Also forgot to mention. If you are lower than 25, you do NOT get the stats either. They are also watered down.

Having seen one of these bad boys drop he first time i was at the castle i vowed i would hunt there till i got another (lost the first roll). After several weeks of casual hunting there with myself (58 necro), a 58 cleric, 54 monk and 51 bard we finally saw another. Lucky me! An hour later Trix droped a 2nd! Very lucky me! I think its very likely one of the rarest drops, Aside from the gear off the rare names spawn. Lots of great gear drops off these vamps, and a very reasonable group can hunt here. Wish there were more places like this.

RE: level 25?
# Mar 29 2002 at 12:46 PM Rating: Decent
I'm not sure, but that "recommended level" thing might mean that if you're below the recommended level, either you won't be able to equip it, or its bonuses won't be in effect for you. If so, then it reduces the possibility that the item will be used to twink a lower-level character.

It's obvious that no one in their right mind would "recommend" that a level 25 try fighting where this item could be found.

Yes, after only three days of camping here, my group was lucky enough to get this drop, and I was the lucky fool that won the roll.
It's probably hands down one of the best cloaks in the game for INT casters. In fact, the chanter I was with said that it's stats looked too uber for where we got it.
My group consisted of myself (54 wiz), a 56th cleric and a 55th chanter. Also got a ton of general capes and boots, a coupe blue diamonds, two Bloodweave bracers, a pair of bloodweave gloves and a diamond or two. Thats just what I got. EXP is awesome, and I'd say risk vs. reward is very well balanced here.
It's damn dangerous to hunt here below 50, and i'd say this is the place for casters to take over and put the melees in the closet. With the vamp procs, you'll spend too much mana on heals than you will on damage. I think that's why the Cleric in my group loved hunting here so much; She could finally nuke next to a wizard instead of running around healing. Although she did heal from time to time, mostly our fights consisted of the Chanter yelling NUKE! and then he'd mez. Worked like a charm.
RE: Just got this
# May 07 2002 at 2:19 AM Rating: Default
Yeah, if you hunt in castle you want to be very caster heavy and light on the melees... maybe monk to pull and 5 caster/priests. We did castle tonight with 60 SHM (epic'd), 58 NEC (epic'd), 57 WIZ, 54 WAR, 54 MAG, and 52 MNK.

Before the melees got there we were just pulling outside castle and letting the pets do a beat down while everyone else nuked and dotted. That worked really well.

Didn't get this cloak, but we killed tons of nameds and got many generals cloaks and boots. Also piles of VT gems and 1 BD, just in about 2hrs.
Trixie?
# Jan 21 2002 at 12:47 AM Rating: Decent
I've hunted extensively here...and still not seen this cloak drop. :( ANyways, what I'm wondering, is why is Trixie wearing the Renaldok wing cape? Shouldn't it come off of Renaldok? Did Trixie kill him once and get the cape off of him?

Recommended level...
# Jan 09 2002 at 1:02 PM Rating: Good
Hey.

I came across this, from the search page. (I vaguely recall seeing it, when it was originally posted.) I saw the +8INT and level to attain and decided it was well worth a closer look. (I hadn't even noticed the +mana!) Level to attain is sometimes a little out, but if the level to attain was L25, it seemed likely I could get one solo at L44.

Clearly the level to attain is... Well, not entirely accurate. So, it'll be quite some time, before I can get my grubby mitts on one of these. However, this leads to another line of thought...

The recommended level for an item has to be designed to limit it's twinkage value. However, other posts state that this only effects the AC of the item. Surely that being the case, the recommended level has basically no effect here.

Realistically, would anyone care that they're not getting the full AC? I'd take this without any AC and never complain! In real terms, +9AC isn't going to make enough difference for anyone to care, surely.

Anyhow, this was just my thought. It's helping me get over the dissapointment that I can't get one of these. (I should go check out the titan samples quest, in Erudin and see how that goes. :))

See ya in Norrath.

AlAaraaf.

Correct. The "Recommended Level" means that you will not see the full benefit of the item in terms of stats and procs until you reach or exceed that Level. I sold one of these capes to a Lvl 60 Enchanter, but the trade was done with his Level 1 mule. When the Mule looked at the item, it showed:

AC: 1 (9)

I don't know how the other stats were affected but I imagine they were in the same range. So clearly if the Level 1 had tried to wear it the stats on this cape would be severely nerfed until he reached Level 25+.

All very true. I saw someone selling this in the Bazaar chat channel the other day, and checked it out. As a SK I can't wear it, but hey, it still looks cool to me!

Anyway, I was level 22 at the time, and this is how the stats appeared to me:

AC: 8(9)
INT: +7(+8) AGI: +7(+8) MANA: +70(+80)
SV DISEASE: +11(+12) SV POISON: +11(+12)

So it's definitely an anti-twink measure. Which IMO is a good idea...
Hard, but not so hard
# Jan 08 2002 at 6:23 AM Rating: Decent
Group consisted of:

52 chanter
54 monk
48 warr
50 ranger
52 shammy

After our initial try which resulted in Trilexior gating (time to zone), we owned this fort. Simple tactics vs. the casters, just gotta have a good chanter ;P. Chanters OWN casters, after our caster fights, which I chain stunned (cant land a 500dd if you cant cast), I had no less than 30m although the shammy was running a bit low from heals.

I can see why it would take a cleric/war duo forever tho, with shammy slow and SLTW these mobs are tough, but very doable at low 50s. We got several drops along with 3 pair of boots from the general in about 4 hours. Also got 2 black sapphires and a ruby, and I got my cloud jewel for my quest shoulders ).

Great exp here and the loot is nice too, love to get this back piece mmmmm.
These mobs are serious mis-cons.
# Jan 07 2002 at 9:37 PM Rating: Good
I'll echo Mortala's statement, these mobs are serious. If they are 45 as some claim they are one of the greatest mis-cons I've ever ran across. I've killed with a 60 Shaman and 59 Monk with epic and it was a very long fight. Was there again last night with same combo along with a 59 warrior. With that kind of power it wasn't as dangerous but it took a very long time to kill and with lower groups doing less damage and taking longer to kill, it'd be hard to survive the entire fight with as many heals as are necessary.

A few things:

-Very high magic resist. Only way I landed a turgur's is after Malo.

-Insanely high ac. Monk was using fist/SoM and hitting for 12-18 almost the entire time. Warrior also using low damage 1h weapons was having a hard time doing any damage. Swapped out 1h's on both characters for high damage 2h weaps and started breaking through the ac more reliably.

-Cannot root or snare as others have mentioned.

-The caster ones are very tough. I had MR and FR up to 140 a piece on 59 warrior and I was still getting hit for up to 500 sometimes. They will also attempt to gate at low health though I've stopped them everytime so far.

-Don't expect to get a drop right away. Most of the time they drop gems, jewelry or nothing. The drops are very rare.

A level 60 duo of healer/tank can do these fairly easy, just takes awhile. Without slow it would be tough but doable so long as you resisted a good portion of what was cast. Also not all are casters, Gorilak or whatever his name is was a warrior when we fought him. Casted no spells but had more hps than the others.

Goes without saying to be very careful with these guys. And if you can't do damage fast enough when they run they will train you to other coteries if they're up.

This drops on Trilexior Aeridia. He is an enchanter, he is unsnareable/rootable. He slows, hastes himself, gfluxes, nukes, dispels, gates, dots and flurries. Also has the signature life drain proc of the vamps. The drain is NOT a life tap, merely a drain, the mob gets no hp from it.

Caution
# Jan 05 2002 at 5:14 AM Rating: Good
If you try and kill this mob, as someone in the post suggested, with 2 lvl 55 Mages, you'll both be dead quicker than you can think.

These flying vampires are *hard*. They're unsnare or rootable, they flurry, rampage, have a 200 point lifetap Proc, See invis and each different one is a different type of caster. Theres a Mage, Wizard, Necro, Enc and SK. Don't be stupid and take the comments these people make as gospel.
RE: Caution
# Feb 17 2002 at 4:09 AM Rating: Decent
Hmm mages can't snare or root anyway. They put pet on, chain cast or heal pet as per their preference, debuff and nuke. Still not sure how 2 55 mages would go but it helps to remember that different classes use different tactics for fighting....

this is a super nice back piece for a caster, i know alot of high lvl casters that dont have somthing this nice on there back, 8 int and 80 mana is amazing, + other stats and resists, i cant beleive they made it so easyly obtainable off such a low mob,

# Dec 30 2001 at 4:13 AM Rating: Decent
I'm glad to finally see such a nice cloak like this for casters. I've read a lot of posts about how there just aren't that many decent cloaks for casters. Even tho I think the AC could still be a little bit higher a cloak like this would allow for other slots to be used for more AC. Good Luck getting this item casters and enjoy!

Note that this is not no drop. The recommended level is just the point at which you get the full ac of the item. if a caster of lower level puts this on, they get the stats but not the full ac. Basically, they seem to be trying to reduce the number of fully twinked level one characters out there. Of course, I'd put this on my lvl 7 enchanter, even if the ac was zero, since I'd still get the stats. I could replace both my earrings with orc fangs, and come out ahead on ac, hp and int, and 80 extra mana, wow. Or just keep my golden ear studs since I really don't melee too much, even at lvl 7. Now I just need to get my main high enough level to get in a group to hunt this.
RE: Not no drop
# Feb 13 2003 at 4:23 PM Rating: Decent
Btw- Now, if an item has a recommended level, it affects all stats in terms of loses, not just ac. So if you are level 1 and put this item on, the stats will be really low. Also on most items with a recommended level and focus effect or proc, it will not take effect until you are of recommened level. Oh, and the stats do increase the closer you are to th recommended level, so it is not like it has all stats of 1 at level 24, but they will probably be 1 less than normal at level 25.
RE: Not no drop
# Jan 11 2002 at 9:02 AM Rating: Default
Your going to put orc fang earrings on an enchanter? Why don't you try Oppaline Hoops which give 2 AC and 5 CHA, yhea, you would loose 2 ac total, but, your casting would benefit much more.

To put things in a different perspective, the lifetap proc *alone* from these vampires would probably kill a level 25 caster in 2 procs. =)
