Yea, thats exactly why I hunt in 50+ zones...

to get eqiupment to give away to untwinked low level characters...

Verant needs to just get rid of crap loot from high level zones and make them drop plat instead. At least plat is useful and won't take up inventory slots until I can get to a vendor.

You guys are missing the point. There are creatures and locks, that cannot be "hidden" from or picked, unless you have a skill of a certain level. Post 50, with skills only going up a couple points at a time, one of these items effectively "boosts" a characters skill level to that of a higher character.

As an example, my (+2 percent) lockpicking gloves. Junk you say? What you don't realize that with a 200+ skill, that's 4+ more points. I'm picking locks as if I'm 2 levels higher. If there's a lock you need a minimum of 58th level with a max skill to pick, guess what, my 56th rogue can do it now.

Don't laugh at what you don't understand.

For lockpicking, you're right - the 2% skill increase matters, esp around lv 40 when you max out the old world skill cap of 200. With the gloves on a lv45 (not sure of exact level) rogue could pick a door that he would otherwise not be able to pick (i.e. the crypt in seb, or the bank vault in Freeport).

For hiding, however, skill level does not matter at all. I've sat at the general house all day with a lv1 rogue to make sure noone jacked the Kedge-wearing coercer while I gathered people. I've gone all the way into Mistmoore as a lv 28 rogue when I did the Burning Rapier quest. I went down to the bottom of Guk to camp a DE mask (back when its stats were good!). Level and, as follows, skill level of the hide skill do NOT matter except for failure rate, which practically caps around lv 25 I think.

Don't tell others not to laugh.

/agree with SaSSafraS, the bonus is meaningless with the hide skill. The higher your skill, the more likely you are to hide succesfully, and you are not supposed to know whether or not you have done so. However, all you need to do is con something who's con level is other than indifferent to you, once you have hidden you simply re-con them. If they are now indifferent to you, you have hidden succesfully, if they con the same simply move or hit the hide button until you get an indif.

I'm guessing this is the umbral plains version of fine steel (old world junk), velium (velious junk), and finely crafted (kunark junk)... seems to improve with each expansion but always junk none-the-less.

This item doesn't even need a comment, but since I am making one, here goes =P

This item isn't that great for dropping in a 50ish zone, save for the fact that it's droppable and doesn't have a recommended lvl of 50 on it...

Ok, I am lieing, it's just plain crap =D

You all call equipment like this crap. To me and you, this is crap. But if you give this to an untwinked low level character, this is not crap to them. Whenever i get items like this that I know I have no use for, I always go to gfay or another newbie zone and hand it out. I wish someone did that when I started playing)
