my hubby and I (42 BST and 42 SHM) duo'd this quest together. Along with the help of a friendly Wiz for a port to Twilight Sea. With our pets, the mobs were easy (both dk blue at 42).

As a Shaman, this weapon is GREAT for practising 2HB - I use primarily a Spine Chill Spear (still, yes, I need to upgrade it!) and the Testament of Vanear as secondary (the +10 wis is rather nice). So I get a loss of 4 wis and a few other stats when wielding the hammer. BUT I get to practise 2HB, and I get to do a reasonable amount of damage (slower, but similar damage to my pet LOL). I would NOT use it as main weapon for raiding or fighting if we needed me to be caster/healer etc as it's just not as effective. But as a secondary backup weapon, it rocks :)

good for BST

Most of you are forgetting one class....the Beastlord. As a BST you need to AC and to keep the aggro down, this weapon is good for that. Granted, at higher levels the are other weapons, but for mid 30's, it's a great weapon.

For all of it's stats, this really isn't a very good weapon, unfortunately.

For melees, even if a mob fails every save vs. magic, it still acts as a 23/38 2hb weapon. This isn't really acceptable at the stage of the game where this can be aquired: keep in mind that the Blackened Alloy ******* Sword (obtainable in Runnyeye in the high-20s/low 30s) is 24/39. The only mitigating feature for a melee is the 10AC - I don't think that makes up for the lack of weapon stats, although it _is_ nice to have on a 2hb weapon.

For Clerics/Shamen, the situation is similar. The 12 wisdom (on this TWO handed weapon) is matchable with even basic gear. A Charred Guardian Shield from Sol A coupled with a Small Wisdom Deity (total cost if buying: about 300pp) make this weapon a bad choice for them, as well.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 09 2002 at 12:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) lol not really as a pally the +12wis is very nice along with classes this weapon is actually alot better u get +10mr which makes it very good. And the dmg/delay harderly sucks u talk about a BABS yet that gear has no real stats. Pls i would take this over BABS any day. Plus fer shammys an clerics this thing rocks with the ac10. Pls bro think a little more out before jus posting....

sorry man, you need to think a bit more yourself. When the guy talked about the CGS, the shield offers 9wis and 10ac, which is the same ac count as the hammer. the deity gives 2 or 3 more wis, and you can find something else to stick in your main hand like a paw of oppola for another 9wis, bringing the total to 20wis 10 ac and -5cha, as opposed to 14wis 10ac 10sv magic -5 to both sta and str, which are more important to most classes than charisma. Also, for clerics especially, they can do more damage with 6 extra wisdom than with most weapons, because clerics aren't built for melee combat. I use paw of oppola and CGS on my cleric and this hammer doesnt look as good once you see that it lessens important stats(less wis to clerics, shamans, druids and less str and sta to pallies, monks and beastlords) Frankly, this is an item that i might use to get my 2hb skills up, but this is definitely not something i would take to a raid or into a fight as a main weapon.

Monks won't want it once they are level 53 as fists are faster and better ratio.

The only reason I'd want it as a monk is for the 12 Wis for tradeskills.

OK, lets point this out, the wep sucks for all melees cuz the ratio sucks badly and the stats are crappy for em, druids get better pretty easy. Whats left are shammys and clerics, guess 12wis isnt bad for both even if they can better pretty easy. This wep is a twinkwep not more but not less as well :)

Its not really bad for a paladin. Its a 2 hand weapon with 2 hand damage that is also 10 ac, which is rare on a weapon that is so easy to get. My druid gets it so easily I see it for something like 1 k plat.

If the magic damage takes, its 38 spd 23 dam. Which would make it better than a 2 ratio on hits where it worked and its nearly a 2 ratio even if it doesn't. The wis 12 and 10 MR are nice for a pally also while the minus 5 on str and sta is kind of negligeable.

If I was a 30 or 35 pally who could scramble the money together for one of these or get a friend to help kill the mobs it would be a pretty ok deal.

Otherwise, yeah its pretty fitting for a shaman or a druid who was previously only using a testament of veneer or CGS and some 2 wis mace (I think I was equipped that way once on my druid.. ehehe)

Ok, I'll deal with Clerics, Shaman and Druids here.

A small group in their low to mid 40's could do this quest easy or someone in their 50's soloing.

Name just one 2h blunt weapon that a 50th to 60th level Cleric, Druid or Shaman could get soloing that is better than this.

I'm not asking for the sun and moon, just find one 2 hand blunt that could be gotten solo that has wisdom and offers a weapon ratio equivelent to this weapon.

I'll save you the trouble. None. Not 1.

Now, lets play the twink game. What 2h blunt weapon can you buy that has around this much wisdom (or close)and ration equivelent to this?

check for 2h blunt Druid weapons, order the search by Wisdom. This is 5th on the list (For a Cleric or Shaman it is 6th).

Reorder the list by Ratio and it is 10th for Druids, 14th for Clerics and 16th for Shaman

Only one 2 hand blunt has a higher ratio and could be soloed in our 50's for all 3 classes. All others above it require multiple groups to obtain and the 1 you or I could obtain offers a paultry 4 wisdom (other nice effects but 4 vs 12?).

So, with these facts infront of you, how bad is this weapon again?

For damage/delay you can try Staff of Living Sand 24/42 ac 4 sta 4 wis 4 mana 40 Proc Smothering Sands a 160-200ish DOT. No Negative stats, 4 wis+40 mana isn't far off from 12 wis, probably just a bit less mana...drops of Grimling Chief in hollowshade moor. Group can do area for good XP in early 30's, 40+ can do solo with ease. Chief drops some other loot, including a fantastic range item (AC 3 wis 3 30 mana 10 fire/cold/poison)

Seen a wizard camping the Chief once, took a single ice comet to kill each, so they don't have that many hp's at all.

Better yet, Chief is perma root parked, so you can nuke/DOT him up without worrying about him coming after you...he doesn't summon like some of the other mobs around hollowshade either.

Its still crap, nearly all 2hb weapons are crap for a SHM, CLR, DRU. Because you can get more AC, WIS, Mana, HP from a shield + 1 hand combo than any 2hb.
RE: twinkwep
# Jul 04 2002 at 12:13 PM Rating: Decent
Exactly right.

For a DRUID look at it this way. A two handed item divided by 2.

In other words, if you had two one handed items. For a druid that means two

6 wisdom items - that would be weak.

Plus the fact that it is minus 5 str!!? Like I wasn't already encumbered by a few loots.

I say VERANT make this a 1hb, and it MIGHT be worth a crap. Take off the str reduction, and it would be worth all the time you spent programing it into the game.

Why do they even make crap items like this? Its only good for twinking a low level druid.

first off for casters is pretty useless, if you twink a char with this the 12 wis up until lvl 30 doesnt even give 50 mana, you can find much better for cheaper with ac and if your using this into your 50's you need to take some time to save up money for better gear, there are many better combos of 1handed items. for melee you wont even be able to use its full dmg till past 30. you are better off sticking with a faster weapon. in the 50's there are many nicer weapons coming out with PoP, mace of the fallen crusader is nice and picked one up for 600p the other day in bazaar, vengeful diamond blade also nice and both are a better ratio then this and those both are 1handers can have a shield also. two tinned pitch forks are going for 2k on BB look it up if you dont know what it is. point being, yea this was an awesom weapon back in the day, but nowdays not much use for it.
RE: twinkwep
# Feb 15 2002 at 9:01 AM Rating: Decent
The weapon is bad because it is two handed.

If you can't find two ONE HANDED items that toal more than 12 Wisdom (or equivalent mana) by level 50... you're kinda a lost cause. :P

I won't say that Druids, Clerics, or Shaman should absolutely never melee... but it should be rare. Damage ratio should not really be a consideration on weapons for those classes... how much the items held in both hands adds to your casting effectiveness is what's important.
oh please
# Dec 28 2001 at 1:49 PM Rating: Decent
This must be a joke. This weapon is practically useless to all that can use. Pali and monk should never give up str and/or sta. Druid would have to sacrifice at least 8 wis and if a druid is meleeing they have issues to begin with. I as a druid havent even held a weapon since like level 20 and i'm 54 now. Maybe a barb or bst shammy but imo much better equpt out there. Maybe good for a twink item until like 20 or so but thats it. Shame it's not 1hb.

As a 45 druid, I melee quite a bit when soloing/gathering materials for tailoring. Now that es vambracers proc I dont melee quite as much, but still... 18/38 with 29 damage bonus would be great to finish off mobs or get 2hb up while fear kiting whatever you can :-)
RE: oh please
# Jan 07 2002 at 1:03 PM Rating: Decent
Come on guys. You'd think by now everyone would realize that a caster is not gonna get 29 damage bonus on ANY weapon. Only melee classes get these bonuses and most of it is dependant on their LEVEL not the weapon. Getting tired of seeing "OMG 15 damage bonus ! I can't wait to buy one !" from a level 20 char thinking they are gonna get that bonus too. Even at level 37, my warrior only has 4 damage bonus on 1h weapons. You get 1 damage bonus per 3 levels starting at 28, I believe. (just hit 37, will have to check again to be sure) 2hb weapons give bonus on top of that depending on their delay.

Also, since these EE quests have been fried by VI (thanks alot, morons), prolly the only EE weapon you'll see quested for anymore is the sword ... if they haven't nerfed that one beyond belief, too. These blunts are not gonna be worth the effort IMO if they ***** the quests.

All hail Verant ! Good to know how much they care about us, isn't it. /rude VI/SOE

Wait til ya see these boards after the patch and we all find out how bad they screwed us again :)

I dont know how many times ive posted saying damage bonus is class and level related.

Granyte is a lvl 60 pally hence the bonus.

2hs,2hb,2hp are all delay based

shaman here. 2hb, I use when I want to solo once in a while, but losing str, STA, ac, and wis switching from piercing, 1hb + shield to this one doesnt sound healthy.

But would like to have one though. Good ratio it seemed.

Definitely not a great druid or cleric weapon either. Only advantage it has over the standard Dark Ember / CGS combo is +10 sv magic and the 2% div mod. You'd be losing str, sta and wis. I guess if you really needed to up your MR it would be useful...

Is there any reason a Monk would want to use this?
RE: Hmm
# Dec 21 2001 at 5:21 PM Rating: Decent
Let me think . . . Well there are two hits that monks won't like and that is STR and STA, BUT the 10AC is NICE and the dam/dly is good and the weight is not bad. Most 2hb that a Monk can use are heavy.

Just my 2cp
too many toons to list on the 7th
