I see most of the posts here are old but I still have to say my piece. People wanna argue that druids get pets and so they should get this item. My cleric has a pet too but that is hardly the point. The folks that get this item are PET CLASSES. Pets are part of their strategy and not something thrown into the game so druids feel better. People are always whining about something. If ya want a pet, play a pet class. If ya want gate, play a finger wiggler. And if ya want to have it your way, GO TO BURGER KING!!
"Summon companion" teleports your pet on your side at your current location, it does *NOT* create new a pet if you had none previously. Typical use is when you lost your pet while moving in a zone because you were sowed/flying and not your pet. Use those gloves to summon your pet back on your side wherever you are in zone. In other words, this is a "lets-hide-our-incapacity-to-make-a-decent-pathfinding-behind-a-pseudo-spell" trick from Verant, imo ;-)
Also, a bit of warning : This spell doesn't seem to work on 55+ charmed animals, limiting its use for some classes (especialy for druids). Nice gloves, all in all.
im a shaman and let me be like the 9th to say AWESOME!!!. A pet proc. thats awesome. saves people mana and spell slot. I would love a pair or 3. *grins evilliy*
I got a pair of these last night and love them. I notice on the pic of the item above it does not say NO DROP. Mine are NO DROP. Wonder if this was changed recently or there is an error in that pick.
on servers like firiona vie(sp?) alot of items are not nodrop because it is a roleplay server so it could be a screenshot from that server.... not too sure on this though (never played on that server)
Except the annotation on the picture indicates it's from the 7th Hammer server. More than likely, the NoDrop tag was added to the gloves after the picture was taken.
This would be a nice item for a druid, but hey we have so many to choose from, even if we dont need to summon our companion. Awesome item anyway, congrats to whomever gets them =)
#REDACTED,
Posted:Dec 24 2001 at 1:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I'm guessing that these could have "Effect: Summon Pile of Horse ****" and mages would still kill and maim for them. All classes listed should be after these. Kudos Verant for making a nice pair of gloves with awesome stats AND a useful effect.
Dat prolly cuz dey neber get dis spell, but da rest listed do... Hehe, suppose if I was a druid I'd be upset too. It's a handy spell, and those stats are to die for, but let's face it, druids aren't all that dependent on their pets anyway. That little bear cub isn't much good for anything but messing around, or killing loads of green trash when you go slumming around in lowbie zones:) They'll be fine without it. Think of it like this, if it helps to cheer you up. When was the last time you saw any of those guys Quad kite anything? Never, right? Thought so.
Yes, they get pets, but to my knowledge druids do not get the spell Summon Companion. All the classes who can use this item get that spell. Typically an item with a spell effect will only be usable by classes who can already cast that spell, to prevent game unbalancing. The purpose of the item's effect is to make it more convenient for people who already have Summon Companion, not to give a class a new spell.
Just that the druid pets are a joke and are never used in any sort of situation where summon companion would be useful. At level 55, I am willing to bet that a couple riposts would kill a druid pet.
Summon Companion summons your current pet to your current location, unless he's aggro on something. Very useful for when your pet paths oddly in a dungeon (or some of the new wacky pathed outdoor zones), and you don't have Summon Companion already memmed (who has an available slot for it all the time?)
Dat means dat when Dogdog runs away, I cast dis, and he comes back to me, unless he's busy causin trubble. Naughty Dogdog always causin trubble hehehe.
What kind of "Companion" does this summon? Does this summon your normal pet that you usually use....I dont see how that would work out for magicians with their 4 pets and all
I guess this is a fairly common misperception, summon companion DOES NOT conjure a pet, it merely brings one already conjured to your side. The spell was added to offset Verants notoriously bad pathing for pets. I almost never travel with the pet, I park him, move, summon him and fight. This would make it amazingly more convenient.
Ha Ha! I bet you wish with these gloves ENC could summon a necro pet....I highly doubt that will ever happen. The pets/class combo's are made with the spell lines and buff spells in mind. Have you ever noticed that casters with buffs usually get weaker pets, and those with no (or only 1) pet buff get stronger pets? The idea for an enchanter is that they can raise AC, put Rune, Alacrity, and Strength on their pet and they would have a nice pet/casting combo. For the Shaman its the same. The problem is that most ENC and Shaman dont want to waste the mana for the constant buffing, or their pet gets in the way with their style of play (I.E ENC wants to root/mez/DD, or Charm Kiting) If a shaman or ENC got a necro pet, he would be unstoppable, I could never imagine a Necro pet with RUNE and Alacrity, it would be a solo style player's dream.
I think the point of this post was to have people actually look up what the spell was for other than dream about getting something they will never get. The effect is for you to summon your pet to you (from a distance). So if your tired of losing your pet and seeing that ominous "taunting attacker master) (then preying its something that will not summon you), then these gloves are for you

enchanter's may get it quite some time before the lvl necros do, but id expect a 51 necro to know that much already ill give my pet my own personal buff > a ench epic haste mainly for the added stats our spells give like the added ac, str plus i think enc epic haste is like 66% haste where our 55 pet buff is 65%. no contest
*cough* actually i could haste and buff that necro pet better than you could. With a click and a few casts i could (with Speed of the Shissar) Haste the skelly about 66%, Agility boost of 40, AC boost of 12. Add an additional AC buff of 23 (Umbra). An str buff of 50 and a mini rune of 350 damage absorb (bedlam). Finally, Levitation, 15fire resist, Imp illusion, and a 70dd nuke proc that has so much taunt to it that it will be stuck ON the pet like glue allowing me to nuke nuke nuke (trickster's augmentation).
So lonely being the words only iksar enchanter... *sigh*
Well, you could... but it would cost ALOT more than the 200 mana a necro would use casting his haste/ac/str buff... not to mention the time it would take.
Not to mention the fact that you would have to be insane to waste that many buffs on a necro pet... heheh... as a 52 necro, I find my pet buff meets my needs without having to trouble anyone else for them.
damn, nice gloves. would love a pair of these, seeing as i usually inch my way in and summon pet anyways cause of the notoriously crappy pathing in dungeons, this saves a spell slot, not to mention the decent stats...more int doesnt hurt =)
