Camped this guy for roughly 24 hours total. 7 hours straight on day one. 13 hours straight on day two. And 4-5 hours straight on day three. So ~60 spawn cycles with named spawning on 8 of those spawn cycles. 7 times he had the gloves and the final, 8th time, the mask. He spawns on the left side of each ramp as you're facing it. That's the only place I've seen him pop. Other named spawns on the right side of each ramp.

Rot Timer

Rot timer is now 30 minutes for the Assassin and its PH. Some other mobs in the room have 8 min rot timers.

Respawn timer is 16 minutes for the whole room.

Keeping a running count until I get the mask...
Spawns:
19 Placeholders
3 Assassin Spawns

Drops:
2 Gloves of the Brood
1 Guise of the Hunter

Total time just under 6 hours

4 Random named mobs popped at a different spawn point while clearing the room floor only (not the 4 on the perimeter)

Got it...Finally

So I had tried this once before (7 years ago before I quit playing). Basically my guild and I thought it would be easy so we rolled down there and basically killed everything on the way there. A couple of groups went in further killing more, while our group sat and waited... and waited... and waited. This time I decided I would 2 box down there with healer and tank mercs, which would not waste anyone's time.

The first night I got there at 8pm and stayed till 2am when I couldn't stay awake. (6 hrs) Second day played from 11am-7pm (8 hrs) Basically spent 14 hrs on it and got it. Funny thing is that on my way out there was a bard coming in, he sent me a tell in less than an hr saying he got his.

I'm not mad, just wish I had his luck, although I have heard horror stories about this taking much longer.

Been going at this guy for about 10 hours now. At first, this guy spawned every other clearing of the "pit" and now, he spawns every 7-8 clearings :P I guess i gotta keep going at it and i'll be a happy lil' Rogue!
My experience

Well took my 69 bard down there last night with my cleric merc. He has 272 lock pick skill so the doors were no problem. I got too close to the trap trying to disarm it. Thankfully my normal merc was able to cure the curse no problem. I brought my wizard along on other computer to help kill them faster. I camped this Assasin for 3 hours last night and an hour this morning and only got TWO spawns total!! No mask, only the gloves and that quest book dropped. ARGH! It sucks repops are on 20 minute timer. Looks like I'll be at this for a long time.

This mask drops off of Shissar Assassin in Ssra on Luclin on the first floor (entry level) of the temple, approximate /loc -275, +215, between 2 locked doors and past a nasty trap. Rogues are not required to get to this camp, but they sure help.

From The Grey zone line (if you put on an EB item for the trip here remember to put your good gear back on) you will be in a small entry hall with one door leading into the temple. Opening the door you'll see the first room with perhaps 4 or 5 mobs, and 2 doors leading deeper. You can invis through here, go through the door directly opposite the entry to room and down the hall. There're 4 more mobs in the hall, in alcoves halfway down hall, but you can invis past these too. At the end of the hall you make a left turn and you'll come very quickly to the end of the hall. You should have passed one door on your right just before the end of the hall and there will be another door to the left at the very end of the hall. This door on the left leads to the Assassin camp.

There are 3 mobs in this next room, and at least one always sees invis. You'll probably have to kill all 3 to move further. Once it's safe (mobs dead or don't see invis) you'll need to get through the stone tomb "door" directly opposite the entrance to this room. Lockpick skill of 210 or better is needed to open it, but you can bypass that requirement by levitating yourself and climbing up one of the black monument poles on either side of the tomb-door, then running to on top of the tomb. You will sink a little bit once on top of the tomb, at which point you should be able to Duck and pop into the hall on the other side of this door.

Once through the locked door, you'll be facing one mob, standing right in front of a trap in this hallway. Most mobs after this point see invis so you'll likely have to fight your way from here. So, pull that one and kill it, then sense / disarm trap if able, or get your cure spells memmed. The trap effect that hit me was Breath of the Shissar which was 20 minutes @ 200 hp/tick DoT. After that mob there are 2 more in the hallway you will meet and have to kill as you go deeper. After the 3rd mob you kill in this hall you will come to a hole in the wall you go through and reach a short ramp with a door at the top. It's not locked and through this door is the camp for Assassin and a couple of other named.

The room is set up as a central recessed area (the pit) with a walkway going all the way around (the ledge) with doors at 2 ends. The end you came in with the ramp leading back to the trapped hall, and the door at the opposite end which is another 210 lockpick door but one you cannot levitate over this time. That's okay, this is your camp, you won't need to go farther. If you stay close to the walls you should be able to kill any of the mobs on the ledge without agroing the pit mobs, but if you get too close to the inner side of the ledge a mob will eventually agro you. Level 60 is high enough to pull singles in this room without getting adds, but lower level I think you'd need pacify or splitting. If you're with a group I'd recommend camping outside the room on the ramp past the door you came in. If soloing, camp next to one of the firepits on the ledge inside the room.

The Assassin spawns in the pit, on the side of the room by the 2nd locked door, right next to the ramp that leads to that door. When you enter the room from the trapped hall his spawn point is at the left of the ramp on the opposite side of the room.

The mobs here are temple guard (warrior), warlock (necro), arcanist (wizard), spirit binder (shaman), priest (cleric) and elite temple guard (SK) along with the possible named and the Commander that can spawn almost anywhere on first floor. The Elites and the Commander are the toughest mobs you'll face, and it's arguable which are tougher. The Assassin is a pushover compared to either, so if you can take an Elite you're pretty much set for this camp.

Almost any level 65 player should be able to solo this camp, and many twinked or raid geared level 60s could too. A couple of things to keep in mind. All mobs in Ssra summon. Rot timer on this loot is 8 minutes. Bring cure poison if you can't cast the cure or disarm the trap. Bring a way to gate or port out, you're stuck between those 2 locked doors now unless you can pick lock.

At least one change, so far.

Rot time is now about 20 minutes, at least. I log off and on to my bard in between spawns and the corpses are still there usually when I come back.

One thing I don't see mentioned here is respawn time, although with the amount of information already posted I don't blame you. About 20 minutes for repops, gives you a lot of downtime if you need it and the ability to play an alt if you don't (save that food!)

If I find anything else out, I'll edit.

Not true, you can. It is just a bit more tricky to go up the pillar, but it is possible.

Corpse timer
# Mar 01 2007 at 3:30 PM Rating: Decent
If you are going on a low level rogue/bard, make sure to have a resser there with you just in case. The assassin has an 8 minute corpse timer and it is very difficult to get back there in 8 minutes if you die before looting. =/
going insane
# May 03 2006 at 12:01 AM Rating: Decent
i am a collector of illusions for my bard and this is the worst one i have tried to camp yet (saying that after getting 8 already 2 that are grp+ masks even)the camp is easy to get to just lev to top of the locked door and duck and your in then just fight to the pit and its far ramp left mob, i have seen 2 named in 2 days no idea if they nerfed it or i am just realy unlucky on this drop but its getting me insane the only other one that compares to how rough the wait is camping this mob is prolly the water elemental one from SG...good luck to anyone camping it i suggest you have house chores or something to do while at this camp tho its boreing as hell
RE: going insane
# May 03 2006 at 10:21 PM Rating: Decent
ok i finally got this after 3 days of camping the thing that i found was that getting to the camp was easy and keeping it was easy as well the hard part was the wait...the thing is tho its not that rare of a drop realy, tho i camped it for 3 days the rare part was spawning the named not getting the mask after 4 named in 3 days it droped then 2 hours later it dropped again for a friend of mine only thing to make this such hell is getting him to spawn

Grab a levitate climb one of the posts on the side and run over the door. You will slowly sink, once you stop sinking duck and look down and you will be able to enter the hallway.

Confirmed. It works. I got it within a minute of trying. Had to duck, since you can sink all the way through the door, only enough to get your legs in. Just crouch and walk through.

However, make sure you can heal yourself for 30 minutes, or able to cure curses. As you will need a rogue to deal with the trap just down that hallway.

I did this camp with 65sk, and botting a 65rog, 62, shammie with ease. If you place you toons near the fire pots you can sit and med with no agro. He spawned a total of 7 times before he dropped the mask and I say for maybe a total camp time of 9 hrs which for a rare droop mask isnt bad at all. As far as this being a bard mask...ahh people in general dont wear these qhwn playing just cast the illusion from it is all.

Rogue/Bard
# Aug 14 2003 at 12:49 PM Rating: Decent
While I see many people here saying that it's a bard mask, what most of them probably don't realize is that to get to the assassin's camp, you have to pass a rogue locked door (too high for bards to pick). This means that for a bard to get this, you're going to need a rogue who either already has it or doesn't want it. Every rogue I know badly wants this, so the latter probably isn't all that likely.
The other drop is also for bards/rogues, gloves with a 3% picklock mod. Haven't figured out which is the common and which is the rare so far...seems to be about even.

And as far as the mask being Vah Shir usable, that's simply because they can be bards and rogues. If you look at the other masks, they're either all races or all rogue/bard races. There's nothing to stop a DE from getting the Mask of Deception (though they probably wouldn't want to...)
RE: Rogue/Bard
# Jul 15 2005 at 1:34 AM Rating: Default
Bards don't need rogues to get through doors that they can't pick. Just aggro a mob them mezz and push him through the door re aggro and get summoned. It works great kill mob or fade .
high elf mask

high elf mask is no drop.
Seems "rare".
# May 02 2002 at 4:49 AM Rating: Decent
Camped this for about 8 hours last weekend. Spawn in the area is really fast (20 minutes-ish). Not a single assassin spawned, PH's everytime.

It'll be a long long time before anyone's handing these out to newbie's camped there for them. You can't even get to the room without fighting at least some mobs. There are see invis mobs on the way.

The room can be held by one good group and allegedly has two other named spawns in it other than the assassin. We saw one, although the name escapes me, but nothing noteable dropped.
#REDACTED, Posted: Apr 25 2002 at 3:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I heard rumors that this can drop out in the grey too, can anyone confirm this? Also are the assasins a special mob? if so what is spawn time and do they drop the mask everytime? AND what level does it proc at?
Vah Shir can use??!!??!!
# Apr 24 2002 at 1:32 AM Rating: Decent
Why can Vah Shir use this if its effect is Vah Shir Illusion, you would have to be an idiot to hand this to a Vah Shir bard/rogue.
RE: Vah Shir can use??!!??!!
# Jun 20 2002 at 8:40 AM Rating: Decent
There is no reason for a Vah shir rog or bard to even roll on this, and anyone who would let them is a total idiot..

RE: Vah Shir can use??!!??!!
# Jan 28 2003 at 8:34 AM Rating: Decent
This mask is super cool, but nobody in their right mind is going to wear it.
RE: Vah Shir can use??!!??!!
# Jan 09 2004 at 5:39 PM Rating: Decent
None of the Illusion Masks are normally worn by any Rogues I know; you put it on, click illusion on, and swap back out for your normal mask, or leave in inventory and hotkey if you want to keep it up for a length of time. I normally do this with my DE mask, when in dungeons, for the added vision.
RE: Vah Shir can use??!!??!!

A lot of people use the Barbarian mask as their mask.
RE: Vah Shir can use??!!??!!
# Apr 13 2004 at 4:17 AM Rating: Decent
this would be because the Barbarian mask has 35AC and 100HP.
RE: Vah Shir can use??!!??!!
# Oct 03 2003 at 7:13 AM Rating: Decent
This is probably the stupidest discussion I have ever read on Allakhazam. And I'm not kidding. Do you honestly think that illusion masks are in place to aid bards? Every illusion mask is completely useless, save the barbarian mask from Kael. Barb mask has 100 HP, why don't you argue that instead? Illusions help faction sometimes, but more often than not, if you're KoS when in your true form, you'll probably be KoS when illusioned, too. Bards have a faction song and a CHA song, they have no use for the illusions other than having fun with them. Yeah, it's cool to be a dwarf holding a bard epic. I would know. I have a level 61 bard and level 65 rogue. Half-Elf, Wood Elf, Dark Elf, Iksar, and Erudite illusion items are all pretty much the same stats. Why would a bard use an illusion mask over an HP/Mana mask? Beats me.
