I've been thinking about things that I can tell you guys that won't get my guild mad at me, but that might help any of you trying to go after IV.

1: IV takes a significant length of time to kill. The average guild that has just gotten powerful enough to take him out will probably take about 10 minutes to kill him, give or take a few minutes. He just has a buttload of hitpoints. I am not sure if IV is one of the monsters that got "retuned" by Verant recently. If so, that might change things considerably.

2: IV can do some sort of "knockback", which can end up sending people flying a LONG way into groups of monsters in the room, causing adds. There are strategies to get around this, but I will let you hunt them down yourselves lest I get in trouble with my guild.

3: A certain amount of raw power and equipment is required to take this guy out. I don't care how skilled or coordinated your guild members are. If they don't have enough levels/equipment/AA, they will fail and fail miserably. It happened to us when we first attempted IV. I've seen it happen to other guilds too. For example, flowing thought items and other means of mana regen come in very handy because the fight is so long. A guild that isn't prepared will see all their clerics run out of mana halfway through the fight and that means you all die.

4: Expect to die the first few times you attempt IV. Even if your guild is overpowered for the fight, getting the tactics down right usually takes a few attempts. The second most powerful guild on our server wiped out the first time they attempted IV. Of course, they almost killed him that time and succeeded on the second attempt.

5: Uber guilds go after the real boss monster in the zone called Shei Ventras. On the way to him, they usually kill IV. I would say that IV dies much more often to guilds going to kill Shei Ventras that he does to people who are just there for him alone. Often, a guild that is going to kill SV will let you kill IV for them if you can do it without wasting their time by failing. Don't expect them to let you do this if you have never killed IV before though.

6: IV has a nasty, nasty DOT. I got hit with it one time when our guild wiped out on IV. I FDed when we got down to less than 10 people and had camped out our clerics. I managed to do a memory wipe on IV and get out of melee range of him and started to bandage myself when I was at around 50% health (about 2000+ hp). Although I can bandage 80+hp per bandage, I was unable to keep up with the DOT and died bandaging myself after the fight.

Regarding the item, I didn't mean to imply it was a bad item. It's a great item. I just wish it had hitpoints on it.

A recent change made by Illia prevents you from being able to use the words "m*nk" and "item" in the same posting. Unfortunately, this means that if you say something like, "We killed this guy with a warrior, a cleric, two wizards, a rogue, and a M*NK." at the beginning of your post and then say at the end that, "It's the best range slot ITEM I've ever had.", your posting will vanish into limbo.

You could easily Post a Strat and not say your server or Guild, this is a Site that is used by all Servers, how is you giving a Strat that might help someone on Emarr gonne hurt you Guild on whatever server you are on, that they would get mad at you.

My guild killed IV recently and two of these dropped and I got one of them. I hate that it has no hitpoints, but the stamina does make up for that a little bit. Keep in mind that with the new PoP expansion, it will be possible to go past 250 stamina. Also, the saves and (to a lesser extent) the high AC will help prevent HP loss, which also makes up for the lack of HP.

I wish I could tell you guys some good tactics for killing IV, but my guild would probably disown me if I shared that sort of info. If you know how to use a search engine, I am sure you can find tactics as good or better than ours. I will say that there were about 50 of us there for the kill and about 90% or more of us were level 60 if that helps any. If this is significantly better than what your guild can muster for a raid, you probably shouldn't try IV. Dozekar, Lendianara the Keeper, and Sontalak are (in my opinion) easier than IV. If these guys are out of your league, then IV is probably out of reach as well.

One of the biggest dangers we have faced in killing IV is from morons who come to watch us and end up training the raid. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming it actually was an accident. It's rather difficult to kill IV when a horde of monsters descends on your clerics. If you can spare the manpower, post a guard nearby to keep an eye out for intruders of this sort.

Although I wouldn't call this a "monk item", it is on my monk at the moment.
uh..

RE: Not that great

Keep in mind that the +10STA will bump your HPs up significantly. Add to that the fact that the AC will keep you from LOSING those hitpoints.

I'd add this to my equipment list any day!

You are both right ...chances are if you are killing IV 'most' of your members will have reached the AC soft cap as percieved pre PoP(who knows what it will be for most bosses on PoP) so all you should be worried about his HP(which should be the case anyway) But it is still a nice item due to the resists and the stam makes it worth getting.

K you got this rouges attention. I am always on the hunt for a better range than the good ole rbf. I am approaching Blackguard status and I need this. Just to add, an epic cleric is not absolutely necessary (though it does make things go faster). However, one cleric won't help much, as they'll be OOM long, long before the mob is even close to dying. You're gonna want a chain.

The Itraer Vius

Level 65 mob in Akheva Ruins, hits for 500, casts a directional darkness (blind) spell, procs a 600 point spell with knockback, rampages, has an insane amount of hit points. Surrounded on both sides of his cavern by quick respawning mobs.

I think you'll be needing more than one or two groups, look to 30-35 people....

Having an epic cleric will help, but you'll be needing a necro just as much for the summonining of corpses.

The Language is that of the akhevians. Vex has been translated as 'Heart'. xi is 'of', and Vius is 'darkness'. Hence, this item is "Heart of Darkness" (and if you ID it, thats what it returns).

Your reflections on the obvious, i.e. "Very impressive", etc., are akin to looking up and stating sagely, "Hmmm...forsooth, the sky is blue"

And the ever moronic analysis of which class can/can't/shouldn't etc. is void and without meaning.

How about you don't post, idiots, unless you have specific information relevant to the actual acquisition of the items displayed.

You do not appear sage and experienced with your drivel, you appear as posers of the sort who would argue whether Adam or Eve had bellybuttons.

I'm with the original poster. You people are a bunch of ******. I have, for your convenience, summarized every post that has ever been placed on this site:

(a) This item should go to [class X (my class)] in the unlikely event that I ever find the thing in the first place. This item shall henceforth be declared as a [class X] item solely because I, or the bunch of retarded hacks in [guild Z (my guild on my server)] say so.

(b) Oh yeah? Well a bunch of guys in [guild Z] all got together to try to accomplish some stuff because individually we all suck. As a group however, a massive conglomeration of people that suck is inherently and objectively better than you, both as players and as human beings. You are probably of a lower level than me or any member of [guild Z] and we would never consider you for admittance based on your obvious lack of playing ability that does not 100% correspond to the ideas that were force-fed to me by somebody else, probably somebody in [guild Z].

(c) Perhaps when your video game character is of sufficient level your opinions will begin to bear weight. The presence or absence of reasoning does not validate or invalidate your point. Only your video game character level matters. Both in real life and in my life [game D].

(d) My opinion is somehow worth something now that I have joined [guild Z] and I think I know what I'm talking about better than you Mr. Previous Poster.

(e) Class [X] is better than class [Y]. Here's the asinine justification to an asinine issue that nobody wants to read except perhaps me. I shall provide it nonetheless since this is the internet and it's my god-given right to babble mindlesslywithout reading, considering or even acknowledging previous posts or opposing viewpoints.

(f) Well see here Mr. Previous Poster. I disagree with your opinion based on largely irrelevant anecdotal evidence that nobody asked about. This evidence, represented here by my invisible soapbox, utterly refutes your ridiculous point and I will provide it, regardless of its irrelevance because I have severe ego problems that only this kind of online ************ can solve. Thank Jeebus there's a game that measures my personal value with a simple numerical system so that I can provide meaning to a life that's otherwise full of ridicule by my peers, employer, and the dozens of women who do not consider me to be a viable mate.

Uh...right...the rest of us jerk-offs post silly irrelevelant bull@#$%. I'm reluctant to reply, with yet another irrelevant post...but here goes.

If you don't like it, set your message filters, and use your power to de-rate crappy posts. You will find that much of the garbage...like the post I'm replying to...will be filtered out.

If you REALLY give a damn about relevant posts...You can find plenty of detailed info on how to tackle The Itraer Vius posted under his other drops; too bad THIS thread got derailed.
Spawn times, spawn layouts, all the mobs you'll face, who's perma-rooted, who's not, what they cast...it's all there.

But I suspect you are not here looking for information. You are only here to asssure yourself that you're not the only person on the planet with no life. At least some of us no-lifers are enjoying the game...so hey, are we the losers?

You seem to enjoy writing clever invective more than playing EQ...fine, move along please. There's plenty of sites dedicated to nothing more than vituperous exchanges of wit. I wish you would go there. Have yourself a ball.

I guess you prefer to post someplace with more of a purpose though, even if it's just a game. Probably feels less like the mental ************ you mentioned.

In case you're wondering I've got a wife, kids, a boss and, well, a FEW friends, none of whom make a habit of ridiculing me...and I don't feel that wasting a lot of time playing Everquest, not to mention surfing these boards, makes me a jerk-off.

Yeah, we're all discussing minutae about a game. So? Doesn't mean we have no girlfriends. Sounds more like YOU need to get laid.

Granted, a huge number of posts are pointless. So? Show me a site with nothing but quality posts.
Set your filters and shut the hell up.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the man who chose the moniker "Sleez" for himself went to the trouble of creating an Allakhazam account for the sole purpose of decrying the very practice of posting in a post of his own? Heheh...

Your vituperous condemnation of these message boards is disturbing to me for the reason that you openly flaunt your ignorance by so cavalierly dismissing them. It's obvious that you've never actually perused their contents to any meaningful extent, because if you had, then you would have discovered the innumerable, informative contributions.

It's obvious that something has fomented within you an irrational anger toward this institution. I advise you to simply leave and not come back. Trust me when I assure you that you won't be missed, Mr. Sleez. :P

(g) I hate reading posts on [messageboard A] so I'm going to post more drivel to waste bandwidth.

I know that there are some lame posts on this board, but I still find a lot of use to it. Rather than complain about a post, just take a deep breath, rate their post down, and move on.

Very impressive! For the classes that can use it, this is comparable to Hand of the Master. some of the stuff coming out of Luclin, especially in Akheva and Maiden's eye, has done nothing but impress me.

While good for any melee class, i can also see why it would be especially good for a monk... they cant use bows so they usually have no range slot. Plus the weight is important. While monks use thrown items to pull, most of them don't have stats. So after you've plonked the baddie in the face, you swap in items that help you boot head.
