At lvl 31
# Jan 09 2005 at 12:09 PM Rating: Decent
I had started this quest yesterday when a lil dark Elf ran up to the NPC and interrupted my conversation with the npc and handed in the document before I could the NPC imediatly headed down the hall the plat was not bad but I did not get a ring the lil ******* did and he had no clue what was going on. He stated he would assis me in the quest to get my ring but the NPC did not pop again for the entire day and late into the morning. I would go back and check every so often. So at least on my server I almost never see this NPC.

The mobs were not hard but I did go all the way down to like 20 hp and the NPC was at like 30 not sure about the other player.

Suggestion if you have root or snare then run ahead a little and just befor the mobs charge they will pop with just enough time to stop one possibly however the NPC is agressive to any mob in the halls even if its a mob some other player not in the quest pulled he will attack it.

If you can get two other players of mid range lvl so the mobs are all no more than light blue you sould be able to get this ring. just be sure to help yer bud when its his turn.

there is another more involved ring quest that involves this zone and the 4th ring is +15 on all statz but from my reading it takes forever and the drops after the second ring get real rare.

This ring is Excelent for the mid lvl Toonz.

In case the guy attacks you...
# Sep 15 2004 at 7:09 PM Rating: Decent
Just tried this again tonight after having failed once before. I certainly don't think it's worthless - amused me for about 10 minutes. Anyway, last time, as 31 Warrior, grouped with 30 cleric. She cast some AoE spell on the first wave, and hit the guy too. He started attacking her and he ended up running away.

This time, soloed it with my L50 Ranger, just to see what happens. No prob taunting and getting agro from all of the mobs. Turned in the note and got the earring. I'm not a rich player, so it actually was a slight upgrade for one of my earring slots.

One note - I accidentally hit him myself the second time I did the quest, and he started swinging at me. After I killed the wave of mobs, I rooted him, zoned into DSP and back, and he was my bud again. Finished the quest. So, if he happens to attack you - just root, zone and return. Hope that point is of help to someone.
charm him?
# Jul 05 2004 at 5:12 AM Rating: Decent
Technically. you could get a chanter and a druid - and walk all over this. Group up. Chanter short term charms him. Druid buffs with some insane buffs. Then zone out, zone back, start quest. It is nto going to solve all the problems, but if he has some skin, throns, regen... etc... maybe even hand his pathetic butt a pet weapon. shrugs. In a perfect world. I mean at least buff his AC/HP up.
how i did this, more then once.
# May 12 2004 at 9:11 AM Rating: Decent
lots of peeps are saying this is worthless, well, if your 30 or 35th level and have a little cash to spend for a nice ear ring then your right. But, if your 10th level and living dangerously by trying to get this earring its really a cool item.
Here is what you do. watch your /who and find a couple 60+ toons to help you for 10 min. (thats all the time it will take.) just follow them down the hall and let them deal with the spawns that Larin is so fearful of. turn in the paper at the end and your done. (walla!!)
A free item ain't a bad thing.
Toons that are 60+ are always heading through netherbane lair to ME and beyond. I have never had a hard time locating aid, but a little patiance is a good thing.
On another occasion, i convinced a group that was working the netherbanes from the piller to help out. (ok, that was not so pretty.) They did succeed in the escort and i was able to get the earring on another toon.
I hope this helps a few players to get their own when they are lower level when this earring has the most value to a toon.
I just wanna add that 1 60+ melee could probably do this, only thing is that(generally speaking) one toon can kill one target at a time. I have seen up to 6 spawns per encounter area (there are 4 such areas) and Larin is no tank. Even if the 60+ is taking the mobs out in one hit some of the mobs will go straight for Larin so i say 2 such escorts will have no problems and probably be laughing at the ease of the quest. I have seen Larin get killed with only 1 such 60+ escort.
Larin can not be healed , but you can nuke him by accident or hit him in melee so be carefull about your targeting. if Larin does get hit by a party member, just zone out the party member to DSP and Larin will return to going down the hall.
Good Luck!

This thing is in no way worthless... nice little earring for WIS hybrids, and it's essentially as well stocked as a Forest Loop. It's not impossible either. All you need to do is get three people around 25-30ish, all three of you start the quest, all three of you kill mobs that attack him, all three of you hand in the papers... or however many people you want to do it with. Hell, a whole guild could walk the hall with him, if you wanted to.

# Jul 07 2003 at 10:38 AM Rating: Decent
I just ran across Lerin and decided to do the quest. Being a 49 Cleric, I figured if worse came to worse, I could just heal his happy ***. I suppose I should have known better, but I attempted this method. Sadly, he cannot be healed. Now I gotta wait again for him to spawn, and hope my melee skills will suffice at gaining aggro. =p

[EDIT]
Someone sent me a tell that my spoiler did not work for him. I went back to NL again last Tuesday (NOV, 2002) and found that this cheat no longer works (I guess someone at Sony must have read my original message)!

To satisfy my curiosity, I hung around and helped a stranger do the quest legitimately. I definately noticed different behavior from Lerin, convincing me that this quest has been revamped and that my spoiler has been thwarted.

So please ignore my post below, and do this quest the right way.

The only thing I want to add is that the mobs that spawn are MUCH harder than the regular NL spawns. If the quest fails, be considerate and clear the remaining spawns. I have seen failed attempts where the much tougher mobs hang around killing passing lowbies. I actually saw seven spawned mobs wipe out a pair of 40+ players that were running by (heh, casters).
[EDIT]

Having done this quest six times (completing it 3 times), here is a spoiler that should help you all out. Unless Verant has changed something recently, this should still work.

Using this spoiler, you don't have to kill a single mob. If you can group with one high level (40+ player, this can be done with utmost ease. If you are a mid 20's player that can root or heal yourself, it is easy too.

First of all, hail Lerin and follow the conversation to get a note "an agreement". Multiple people can hail him, and he will give out multiple notes.

Once a person hands the note back to Lerin, he will give that person a second note "a signed agreement", and the quest will begin. This "signed agreement" is needed at the end.

I think (I'm not 100% sure) that you can give him either the first or second note at the end. And if I recall correctly, you can still hand in the first note to receive the second one even when the quest is underway. I don't remember if he will give out the first note once the quest starts, but he probably might. The reason I mention this is for you to know that you can get ninja'd if you aren't careful.

The key is to keep Lerin in the general area where he spawns. Waves of mobs will appear as he waltzes up the tunnel and reaches trigger points. The instant you initiate the quest, and Lerin starts walking towards SH and the first trigger point, simply root him, or agro him in some way. DO NOT FIGHT BACK. Just sit there while he tickles you with his lame damage output, or simply keep him rooted. As long as he does not wander, no mobs will spawn.

If you have a high-level friend, have him agro Lerin and then stand there making sure Lerin does not begin to wander. A high-level person will not feel his hits (make sure they don't riposte). While your friend keep Lerin occupied, your run all the way up the hallway to the guards by SH. Lerin will respawn there soon, and you need to be there.

After about 10-15 minutes, Lerin will respawn by the guards near SH. He definately respawns. He will poof from your target window. Even if you do the quest the right way (killing waves of mobs and keeping him alive like I did the first time), he despawns and respawns by the SH guards - no matter where he is after 10-15 minutes have passed.

He will hang out by the guards for a few seconds awaiting the final note turn-in. Run up there as fast as you can (if you are solo), or simply wait for him there while your high-level friend keeps him occupied near the DP zone.

Turn your note in and receive the prize.

This has been nerffed or fixed, depending on how you want to look at it. Saw him last night and tried this and it didnt work. Turned in the second note and as soon as he started moving, aggroed him. I stood there for over 35 minutes letting him beat on my 37th level BL. Healed myself several time, never getting below a bub. After 35 minutes, I walked backwards with him in tow, still beating on me, all the way to the SH guards. Backed up past the guards and he ran back to his spawn point or tried to anyway. Almost made it there too, all the mobs spawned and started chasing him, until they ran him down.
Then they start attacking any one close like one big gang. A high warrior came in from DS and took them out. Guess Im gonna have to try this the other way.

I didn't know who he was and started the quest as a lvl 36 warrior. There was a couple other high lvls around me I didn't know why. Anyways I started the quest and they helped me but the first person who turned in the note at the end got the earring then he poofed immediately. Didn't give the rest of us a chance to get it.

Don't pull a stupid like I did and attack him. I was to the third hole and when to click my kick button. I did the old "click in between buttons and target something behind them" and attacked Lerin. Needless to say I bugged out at that point since I took a bunch of his health and was OOM. lol
Not sure if its BS or not

Spent a bit of time waiting for the Lerin spawn. I did not want to spend much time so when another guys shows up looking to camp the spawn, I told him to take it (he already had an ear ring). About 1/2 hour later, he told me he just completed the quest again, and received a similar ear ring but with double the stats. Anyone know if this is BS cause it sounds way to good to be true.

No way he could have gotten another one. If you look at the picture, it's lore. And everyone knows what happens when you finish a quest with a lore item as a reward and you already have one. That's right, it goes POOF. Impossible to have two of em, unless you're a GM that can change the tags on items...

If the second one he recieved had double the stats (and there are several items in Luclin that are like that, a rare item thats twice as good as the common) it would have a slighly different name. Example. I Twilight Sea there is the Earthen Guantlets, which are common drop of one type of elemental, and the Mighty Earthen Guantlets, wich is the rare drop. So it is entirely possible this dude spoke the truth.

Someone on the forum for this quest said to have an enchanter AoE mez each group of monsters. Hmmmm...I have a full low/mid 20s guild group up there right now. 2 warriors, a ranger, a shaman (me), a druid and an enchanter. Think we will try the mez if we can spot him.

I just completed this quest Saturday on Tholuxe Paells.

First of all, I had no idea who this guy was, I just saw him standing near the Dawnshroud zone line.

Secondly, I am a 31 lvl wood-elf ranger who was soloing the Lair at the time.

I hailed Lerin Sardor, ran through the dialogue and got the quest. How hard could it be to walk a guy down the tunnel? Well, let me tell you.

A lvl 35 ranger had just zoned in looking for Lerin and offered to help when he saw that I had just started the quest. I said "sure", not having any idea as to how hard the quest was. Here is a rundown of what happened:

First hole, right side, Trog area - 3 Trogs come running and jump Lerin, they agro on me as soon as I join the fight, all dk blue cons, they go down without too much trouble

Second hole, left side, Fungoid area - 3 Fungoids jump us, same drill as with the Trogs, again all dk blue to me, slightly tougher fight, I'm down to 1/2 health

Third hole, right side, just before intersection - 3 Netherbian Warriors jump, again dk blue, at this point 2 people camping the hall jump in and help out, partway through the fight Lerin bolts and starts to run for the Nexus zone - Not sure what his health was, I was too busy keeping track of him and watching for adds

Past the main intersection, Lerin keeps running until we get jumped from behind by 3 more Netherbians, pretty sure they were warriors again, all dk blue to me, the others helping me were finishing off the first set of warriors, the npc guards jump in at this point and try to help, too little too late, don't count on them to do much damage, Lerin stops to fight so I have to stop also - I die, luckily I'm bound in Shadow Haven

I send a tell to the ranger who was helping me asking if Lerin made it, he replies that he did and for me to hurry as he is about to despawn, so I zone in just loot the note off my body, give it to Lerin and get the earring

This is a pretty nice item so I wasn't too upset that I died getting it. Apparently Lerin is a rare spawn, the nice ranger who helped me out said he had been watching for him for a couple of days. I apologized for grabbing the quest but he wasn't really upset, it gave him an insight as to what to expect. Had I been solo, Lerin never would have made it, so my advice is to have a good mid 20's to mid 30's group. At least one healer and 3 melees would be a good mix. Assign the healer to watch Lerin's health and the melees should have no problem with the mobs, provided you don't get any adds. A higher level may be able to solo it, but I wouldn't try it solo unless I was in my 40's and could deal some good damage. I was very fortunate that I had someone nice offer to help.

On a side note, I have noticed that the rangers and druids in the game are some of the nicest and most helpful people around. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a ranger, and I'm sure that from a roleplaying aspect it makes sense, but I don't see many people roleplaying on Tholuxe Paells, so I'm not sure that's a factor. Before any other classes get upset, I'm not saying that there isn't the really nice shadow knight running around, I'm just saying that I notice it more with rangers and druids.

Just got offline after camping in NL at DS zone line.
Hadn't a clue about this just happened to passby and saw this fella and thought I'd talk to him in case he had a quest. Sure did so accepted it, oh dear!
I had my 33 war frog at around 53% of near 13oohp pretty good gear he'd bought as bazaar bargins or quested for and just fairly easily killed a blind neathercritter in the hallway (was dk bl). 1st point, 4-5 trogs (hard to count mass of dk bl's), by the time I killed 1 the quest guy was dead and I was in my low teens% hp, can you say head for the zoneline? I sure did. Made it thank goodness. So , you Mid20 lads might be in for a bit of excitement and remember to be at full health and sped up if you want to stick your nose into an unknown quest just on spec. ;)

this is a very good place to level..been here from level 18 and am level 35 now and still working up..once ya get light blue and green to the bugs and fungoids ya can start working on the guards wich stay blue up till your 40 or so..guards also easy to kill and have no faction hits..

guards do give faction hits now, they didnt used to, musta been a bug, i lvled from 34-39 off em, killed one passin through thqat was still DK blue to me and gave me two bad faction hits, one was shadow haven guards, forgot the other one, and also gives you good faction with haven smugglers

i did "try" the quest right after last patch so i guess the info is kinda up to date...

first its realy easy...tho im lvl 48 pally my gear sux ***, ac is round 750...buffed...and round 1800 hp...i didnt had to heal a single time in the fights...

lerin will attack every mob there is...but as many say that you need some area controll and taunt skill is true BS...if you attack one of the attackers all of them will agro you...and coz every mob is infront of you the riposte is awesome...4 smal f_kers hitting at you...(i think i did more damage from ripostes than from actuall hits)...when i was at the 4th attack...(in the middle of the tunnel)...i actually target lerin and kicked his ***...that why i missed on the quest...other way its so easy...

i think a 3ppl group can take it easy...lvl range 23-28 warrior, cleric and maybe a pally that can heal/root if it turns out bad and get lots of "side-adds"...at least since all the low lvl chars have better gear than my char has...(/e whine)

go for the quest as soon as you see the guy...=)

hope you dont f_k up as i did...he eh

wow finally a upgrade for my forest loop, add a few ac and str, dex loss is neglable, at 52 this quest was really simple just look for him on your way to maidens for a pickup group. what was cool to me was while you were fighting he accually healed me for a while, it was only a 29hp heal but still, gratz to verant on a cool quest that accualy has a story to it. I enjoyed doing this quest and the reward is great.

just tried this quest lastnight after reading about it with my level 33 Ranger. Wasn't sure about the spawn rate on Lerin, but I would solo right by the zone line in Dawnshroud Peaks and pop back in every once in awhile, and finally found him. I was able to do it witha lvl 40 something warrior friend and got the ring just fine.

...never hailed the guy so i havent got the quest and dont know how he react when the monsters come...read the posts and not sure what to think...in some of the post it says he attack the guys but not everyone is saying that...if he doesnt attack em lots of chars can get the ring...just have root or mez...root all of em and let him walk past em...(x your fingers that the roots last for long - or take em out)...is that possible...??? (depends on the agro radius to, how far is it if you root em, will they hunt you in whole netherbian lair?)
RE: curious
# Jan 09 2002 at 12:08 AM Rating: Decent
I watched a monk do this quest. Yes he does stop and fight the netherbians which conveniently pop in each hole on the way to shadowhaven... therefore root won't work, you have to have to kill all the netherbians that pop

An excerpt from the synopsis of the book, "Kundun" - Lhamo was installed as the fourteenth Dalai Lama at the age of three, and was known from that point on as His Holiness or Kundun (the Presence), titles even his family members were obliged to use.

But the word is Kundan, which is a type of Indian (not Native American) jewelry (http://talwarjewellers.com/pages/kundan/kundan.html).

Bring a chanter for this quest, you will need him/her. I did it with my druid and failed, so I figured why not try with my necro, my pet would eat these things alive. Well, I was wrong, I died first phase, with 6 Troglodites whacking him, I got Bond of Death on 1, and started grabbing aggro. They hit me harder than Bond of Death, and faster than my pet could kill them. Needless to say, I was looking for a rez about 40 seconds after initiating the quest. I would imagine a Chanter could get a few mezzed and you can take them out 1 by 1, keeping our friend with close to maximum health.

You can't use any area spells, as this will get the quest guy as well. You really need a melee to do this well. I first tried it solo and couldn't get aggro enough as a druid. On the second try, had a bard, ranger, warrior, and myself. The ranger accidentally targetted him, so she and the bard zoned. We did the second wave with just the two of us, before the ranger and bard got back.

This is an upgrade to a Forest Loop. From what I've seen of this zone the mobs are so green they won't aggro on me, so it's not a bad drop, and unable to be farmed since it's no-drop. I'm not sure where they're going with making every little piece of junk that drops no-drop....I guess they want us to camp green spawns individually instead of having smaller numbers of pharmers doing it...whatever. Only people who'd droll over this are rangers, who still sometimes wear Floops past lvl 50. I guess str is better than dex? Is for me :)

What you miss here my higher level friend is VI is limiting the farming going on in all of Luclin. This quest is designed for a group of around 30. (My group did the quest and did just fine with it). Farming is not going to happen too much here on the moon, since almost every quest reward is No-drop.

Oh well, guess you can always go back to LGuck and farm the FBSS there 8). Or farm Forest Loops for those sub 50 rangers 8)

I don't understand where you hang on to the stamina? Neither the Forest Loop or the Cougar Claw have stamina... hmmmmm. I must be missing something.

Anyway, I tried this quest as a level 48 monk and got him through to the third phase. There seemed to be at least 6 greenies (maybe 7) at the third phase and it was very tough to see who was aggroing him. I tried to get aggro from all of them but as someone else posted, this guy has the hit points of a snow bunny! He died as I was killing the second to last fungaloid (or whatever it was). I hear the fourth and last phase of ambushes is the worst so even at a higher level I suggest a small group and a well thought out plan to get this guy safely across. Either that or bring a chanter to mezz them all and let the guy pass. However, I suspect Lerin Sardor won't respect your mezz and will continue to pummel the mobs... he seems a little dense. Fun quest and I WILL get one of these earrings. Nice for anyone, especially nice for monk.
