LOL if they'd delete all the HUNDREDS OF TIMES diff stats start getting discussed in detail INSTEAD OF THE FUXXIN ITEM they'd clear up half the data space..

Oomgado has always been blue to 60. The belt rocks, I'm wearing it now. 60 shaman and I usually partner here...others (as always) just speed up the death rates...

Just score one of these bad boys today. It's a great belt. Oomgado is just a *sleightly* rare spawn. He's pure melee, no spells. But has (like most luclin bosses) quite a huge supply of hitpoints. I doubt this is a guy to kite around. Bring some melee and a good healer. He can be slowed too.... which is good cause he hits hard. :)
Oh and I think he might be immune to root or snare cause none of them landed while other spells did just fine.

He can be snared - my first snare landed. He does have a lot of hitpoints. He seemed to spawn on the 2nd floor as you are going up there stairs.

She exists. The group of people I've been hunting with the last week or so camps the cathedral (at least that's what the building looks like). She looks like a Xi. I was the lucky one on the roll for the belt. :)

And yes, they all come back on /con as female, for some odd reason... /boggle

I really like how if i'm interested in this belt i can't find out any information because i have to wade through this crap about dex.

Seriously, every time an item has a good stat, thiers got to be a tangent rave about its use. Can we get a forum dedicated to each stat and thier use?

as for getting this drop, i'de see if you couldn't get one other person in that all caster group of yours. maybe a good tank, otherwise if its high mr, you'll have to rely on your pets.

Jsmile...you're the winner in this little rant bout dex effects. Offensive skill increase rate is main MELEE effect of dex buffs, as for trade skills and archery I can't speak with anything but second hand hearsay.

Here is my reasoning- As a lvl 51 Monk I got one of those nifty new Tarmok Battle Staffs the other day. I had tried to invest some time previously in 2HB skill, but unless you're insanely lucky or in an Uber guild, there are very few 2HB weap's that are worth the weight and delay for your average monk. Hence a 2HB skill of 80 pts as of Monday of this week. I started used the TBS that night and unbuffed in standard gear for approx the first hour, got 2hb to 96. I got into a group with a shaman and enchanter after that. Got the shammy dex buff (lvl 54 shaman) and skill went from 96 to 121 in the next hour. So I asked the enchanter to boon me o top of shammy dex, which put my dex at approx 250, in the next 30 minutes skill raised to 140. You do the math.

As for the effect of skill increases, my attack jumped 5 pts per skill increase up to skill 100 or 101, I'm not positive, then raised 3 pts per skill increase since then.

Dex effects your ability to gain skills as well, high dex more skill increases. This WAS put out by Verant!
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 01 2002 at 1:36 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Correction:
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 27 2002 at 12:41 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dex is secondary to skill success's not improvements. In other words...
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 13 2001 at 1:08 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) First off... dex DOES have to do with other things than proc rate. The more dex you have the more often you will hit a mob. If you dont belive me.. try it out. Take off all your dex items.. swing at a mob u will get exp from.. see rate of hitting... put all dex items back on, get boon of the gur.. or shammy dex, hit mob.. notice rate of change... it does make a diference. And secondly the dam bonus.. it is based on the type of character u have.. ie war's get a larger dam bonus than any other class. And your lvl, higher lvl= higher dam bonus. Im not sure if it is noticeable under 20 or so.. but once u get into the 40's u can see it go up every lvl. Then at 51 it takes effect. the bonus simply adds to your real dam shown. ie. at lvl 50. You slash a Cursed Hand for 43 damage. weapon has a bonus of 7.. taking into acount you have the same stats and u get he same hit again. also asumeing 43 was the max damage on the weapon. at lvl 51. weapon should now have a bonus of 8 or possibly still 7 depending on your class. now... You slash a Cursed Hand for 50 (or 51) damage. That is how it works.. hope i cleared some things up.

I don't see a change in the # of times I hit something when I load up on DEX. I do get more crits, but I don't hit more.

I do notice that loading STR makes a difference in the # of times I land a hit. This has a direct effect on my overall ATK, which leads me to believe it's ATK that determines hits and misses. Try learning a new weapon skill. You're ATK is horribly low and you'll miss all the time even with all the DEX in he world. Add considerable STR, and you'll notice the increase in your hit rate.

DEX also effects defensive abilities, like Riposte and Dodge. My friend that plays a 57 DE warrior, with Boon of the Garou up (thus max'ing his DEX at 255) dodges, psrries, and ripostes a lot more than me, with my shoddy 106 DEX.
thats wrong
# Dec 13 2001 at 12:16 AM Rating: Default
hey here is what i personally think. it may be wrong, but with the number i saw in the game it seem to be accurate:

your maximum damage is the weapon damage, + your skill in the weapon and your offence skill in %

lets say that you have a 10 damage 30 delay weapon. you have 225 skill in 1h slash and 175 in offence. the middle between the 2 is 200. so you make the basic weapon damage (100%) + 200%. so your maximum hit would be of 3 time the weapon base damage. somwone that use this weapon with those skill would make a maximum damage of 30 with each blow. check it out im pretty sure its near this number. maybe the weapon skill do not have anything to do with that and that its just the offencerating. i have to check out.

the attack rating is determined by your skill in the weapon, your strenght, the weaponthat you are weilding, and i think, but i am not certain, that weight affect it too. cause 2 ihs sword, having the same stats, but one weighted 6 and the oither 2. and the 2 weight weapon had bigest attack power.

the attack power define for me how much you hit for the maximum damage. The AC of the ennemy do the opposite of your attack rating. if your attack rating is too small compared to the ennemy AC, you will do very little damage.

the rate at wich you hit and miss is not defined by the attack rating i think. becose even if you use a orc pick, that have horrible stats and give a low attack rating, you will still hit. you will just not do damage. i am persuadedthat your chanses to hit are determined by your skill in the weapon and your dex compared to the ennemy AC and agility. even with the best weapon of the game, if you are at skill 2 you will still miss every shot on higher level mobs.

i am at lvl 35. i have maxed skill in off and 1slash. i was out of weapon so i tryed the 2hs sword that i had. damn crasy damage ratio. superb weight and stats. when i was weilding it with buff, i had a not bad at all ratio. but when i tryedto hit a yellow mob, i missed 99% of the time.

if attack rating was really reflecting chanses to hit, i would have hitten often for little damage.

now look at the spell that help the attack rating: firefist and thing like that. if attack rating would be acurancy at fight, the spell would be precision or somthing. not firefist.

attack rating is the chanses to hit for maximum damage with your weapon and chanses to hit are not displ;ayed im almost sure of it.

Nice argument, and I can see your logic, but from what I've seen your a little off. My main is a 53 bard, and with a green jade axe (when he used it) he hit for low 70's as a standard self buffed max. As soon as he got a str buff that number started rising, with the most he did with it being a 84. Str raises atk, we have all seen that. So whether the extra damage was because of the higher strength, or because of the igher attack, I cant say for certain.

No-one but the programmers can say for sure, and what everyone else says is pure opinion, including this. But with other toons I've levelled, I have kept a close eye on the hits as well with the same result. A higher str means a higher damage. If I have no buffs my 34 rogue has backstabbed for 140ish with a 10 dam weapon. When he had a str buff AND wolf form he hit his record of 172. 30 pt diff thanks to a nice increase in ATK.

When I have had a dex buff with my toons though I have noticed that I hit about the same amount of times, but generally hit more more, up to the usual max based on strength. As others have said, it APPEARS (to me at least) that strength affect atk, and therefore max possible damage, while dexterity affects the average damage over time.

At a guess (and this is purely a guess) I would say that max damage is atk/weapon skill. Logic behind this is that with an approx 210 skill I MAX hit for around 5 times base damage with a 1050 atk. That means a hit of 65 with a 13 damage weapon. I expect that to be different based on class and level (monks, warriors, rogues get a different damage table based on 50+ level), but as a 53 bard that is what I hit for, and the ratio's tend to match nicely, depending on buff's.

My normal atk is around 930, and I hit for about 4 1/2 times base damage - or 58's max as a comparision.

Hmmm
I have doubts about your damage calculator.
My CSS is 12/24 weapon, and at 33 lvl my 1H Slashing skill is at 170 and my Offense skill is 165. According to your formula my max dmg should be 32, Yet, my ranger has made strikes for up to 41 dmg.

Thanks for the correction Ryunzun. One thing I missed out was adding the damage bonus for your level onto the end. From what I have been told (sounds right, aint confirmed) the damage bonus you see for most levels is (level-24)/3, or something like that. Any fractions get dropped.

The damage calc I listed is only a ROUGH calculation, as no-one knows the exact way it works out, but for me at least, it gives a pretty solid idea of what you can expect as a max hit.

The refined calculation is along the lines of :

(atk/skill) * base damage + ((level-24) / 3)

Using the Longsword of Ethereal Energy as an example (great weapon, I hit for up to 114 with it so far with a few buffs) it would be about 1060/213 * 21 + 9 for my usual stats. That works out to be about 113 1/2, which is close enough for me, as I usually hit for 111 max with self buffs. That is of course assuming no resists on the extra +5 magic damage added to the base 16 damage.

The attack skill is made up of 3 things from what I can see. Strength, Offense, and weapon skill. The str bonus to attack also seems to be level based, otherwise low lev toons would have a higher atk skill when starting.

For a ranger friend (lev 56) he has hit for 122 with the same sword, and usually runs about with a lot higher atk than me (around 1250) and with a higher skill rating (around 235 for 1hs).

While my calculation may not be 100%, it seems to fit a lot of calculations I have checked, and gives a pretty solid idea of what you will hit for. I just missed the + bonus damage on the end :)

It;s also based on your ATK skill, NOT Offense. What is your atk skill?

Thanks for posting some nice looking *********

Dex = procs + hits with bows (and a bit in fletching).

ATK = how often you land a hit.
Str = how hard you hit.
Str = ATK

Dex doesn't do anything to your attack.

Therefore, dex has nothing to do with how hard you hit or how often you land a hit.
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 13 2001 at 1:32 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hmm from what ive seen it seems that higher dex modifies your avg dmg instead of raising it, and of course making you crit more, proc more... i seem to hit more to... hehe joo be flamed bish!
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 12 2001 at 10:44 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Dex is something not too many people are really sure about... what I do know is that it is already a pretty nice belt even w/o the dex. I know Dex helps special attacks like Dual Weild or Double attack go off, and I think everybody agrees with that, it also helps proc. STR does = ATK, but what really effects ATK is the Skill for your weapon, just 1 lvl in the skill is like adding 5 or so more STR...
RE: DEX 101
# Dec 14 2001 at 4:46 AM Rating: Default
Dex aids offensive skill increases. It does NOT directly affect duel wield/double attack. Indirectly so, via the aforementioned skill increases. This has been misinterpreted to the point that it's become a new form of urban legend.

Dex affects proc/crit rate.
Dex affects bow damage.
Dex affects fletching (skill increases and/or failure rate, not sure).
Dex affects offensive skill increases.

Dex does not affect duel wield/double attack.
Dex does not equate to increased max and/or average damage.
