Secrets of FaydwerI have tried combining a Steam Core: Dream and a Glossy Silk Wristwrap in the Steam Core Embedder and getting an error. It does not combine.
The Glossy Silk Wristband is what drops naturally and it can be changed to a Glossy Silk Wristwrap by putting it in a Bracer Tuneforge Contrivance, which can be purchased from the same Vending Machine clockwork. This changes the wristband from a poison focus to a chromatic focus, which is what I as an enchanter need.
Not sure why it is not upgrading.
Did I need to do the upgrade BEFORE changing it to a wristwrap (chromatic focus) item? Or did I not need to change it at all? Does combine with the Steam Core: Dream change it automatically to be a chromatic focus item?

Did you combine the Wristband with anything in the Contrivance to craft the Wristwrap?
You almost certainly wanted to combine it with the Steam Core before you converted it to the Wristwrap. Does combining the Wristwrap in the Contrivance turn it back into a Wristband?
I have figured out the problem.
The original drop was the Glossy Silk Wristband. I did not need to change that to get a chromatic focus. Combined in Steam Core Embedder with a Steam Core: Dream it upgrades to a chanter-usable Dreamer's Silk Wristband with the correct chromatic focus.
What confused me was that the vending machine sells another device, A Bracer Tuneforge Contrivance. This changes the damage focus on a Glossy Silk Wristband without upgrading it. One use makes it into a Glossy Silk Wristwrap with a chromatic focus. A second use makes it into a Glossed Silk Wristband with a disease focus. A third use changes it back to its original form. Each use destroys the Bracer Tuneforge Contrivance and you have to buy another to change it again.
The problem was that the Steam Core Embedder cannot upgrade this wristband in either of its changed forms. If you use the correct Steam Core with a Glossy Silk Wristwrap or a Glossed Silk Wristband it does not combine. You have to use the original drop, or change it back to that.

What is the exact recipe for this item?
As I understand it, I take the same Steam Core: Dream and use any Glossy Silk armor to take it to the next level (Dreamer's Silk Robe, Slippers, etc).
The recipe for the bracer here would be as follows:
Glossy Silk Bracer + Steam Core: Dream >>> Combine in Steam Core Embedder
Result is a Dreamer's Silk Wristband

We don't have a Glossy Silk Bracer listed. We do have a Glossy Silk Wristband and Glossy Silk Wristwrap, though.
