I saw these Drop off of a Shadow Reaver, we didnt have a monk in our group, so we called someone in from Maidens to loot them, he was very happy

I was with the monk who submitted the graphic being used here when he got the item. At that time it was dropping off a named alien thingie in the open area to the right of the first split in the zone. He has a static placeholder in one of the two cubbies without a hallway leading off it in the sides of the room.

In about 8 hours over two days (with less than one full group) we saw the named spawn twice - once with the hand wraps and once it had the dagger.

However, I suspect that it has been moved or else made an uber rare drop, since I and others in my guild have been back a number of times, and the named has dropped nothing for us.
no ones mentioned..

Ever wonder why a lvl 51+ mob can wipe out a lvl 51+ char no problem? oh... well I did. Gear such as this helps balance that out i think (not much of course but it all helps)
RE: no ones mentioned..

I believe that the reason a lvl 51 mob can wipe the floor with a 51 character is because the mob was designed to be killed with groups, not soloing them all.

I find that aegolism and KEI help level the playing field some.
Cleary never been to this zone
# Dec 11 2001 at 3:35 PM Rating: Decent
Those of you who think this item is too good have obviously never been to this zone. My guild fought in here for many many hours and did not make it too far into the zone. There are mana worm traps everywhere, the spawn rate is very fast and the mobs are packed in.

Having said that, I am guessing that this item comes off of one of the tougher mobs in there. One such example that we took on was made from rock, forget his name. Amazing amount of hps, all spells were hitting for full but this guy still took longer than any fight I have been in. Vindicator went down faster than this guy and he was only the FIRST named mob we ran across.

So I would not shrug these off as being too easy to get. I am betting it takes a raid like force to get these items and that raid has to be well done.
drop off of?
# Dec 11 2001 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone know which mob or mobs this drops off of?
Nice . . .

I'd have to say these are some very nice weapons. One of the better Monky Weapons that didn't say Primal on it I've seen in a while.
Regarding quality of Gear
# Dec 11 2001 at 8:47 AM Rating: Excellent
I have noticed many complaints, flames, rants etc.. about the power of the new equipment dropping in Luclin. I will throw out my personal take on it.

First, what did you expect? People are not going to be attracted to a new zone by the possibility of getting a new style of Mino axe, or a Velium Sword that is named different... People want bigger and better... So VI gives them whatthey want.

Second, I concur with the previous poster in that these items are skewed towards making some of the higher-end "uber" zones more feasible for the general population.

Let us consider back in the "good old days", when a 35th level ranger was in good stead wearing full banded with a pair of combine longswords, and one weilding yaks or a crystalline Blade (From Perma, not Velious) was planes-ready. Toss in some jagged bands and DWBs and you were close to as good as it gets...

I fear that the folks who complain about the power of the new stuff are also the same who would rag on the new rangers for not having at LEAST 1 piece of Ivy... but I digress.

The third and final thought I will leave is this. VI seems to be forcing us to choose which weapons and items we will use a little more carefully. With the advent of skill bonuses on items and weapons, as well as damage bonuses targeted at certain areas, we as players are forced to choose which items we will carry for different scenarios. This is where thought and forethought come in.

Worth what ya paid for it, but if you read this far thanks.

The future of EQ

I think its clear that Verant is adding in alot of new, ultra powerful gear into the game. Some folks are say this is "too powerful". Too powerful for what? Old world zone? Crushbone? Clearly these items are design with some of the new zones in mind, personally I have never been to sleepers but knowing how difficult it you require this sort of firepower, so yes its to tough for hate, but its not designed for hate its designed for the ultra tough zones that are being added regularly to the game. New items are needed to keep up with the new content of the game.

RE: Too Uber, if there is such a thing
# Dec 11 2001 at 5:31 AM Rating: Decent
Please, you guys complain and moan that this stuff is too good blah blah blah. Verant never said that epic weapons would be the best weapons in the game, epic weapons are the best weapons of kunark. Thats all epic weapons are, kunark weapons. But anything that has epic weapon stats and drops off anything less then an uber dragon is too powerful? This weapon isnt that great, its only good when fighting fire based mobs, then its excelent, that was verants goal, to make weapons that do very good in certain areas so people would actualy go to these areas to get the most out of their gear. If I had this weapon It would prob rot in my bag 80% of the time I play. Scepter of mastery (same stats as ranger offhand epic, drops off easy mob in kael, NERF! NERF! NERF!) blows this away unless you are fighting fire based mobs. And you people saying this is too powerful are not monks, and cannot use this weapon, otherwise you wouldnt be saying that crap, so do everyone a favor and keep your selfish, narrow minded opions to yourself.

small correction: it is good when fighitng against NON fire based mobs. the extra 5 fire dmg is only applied if the mob fails a sv vrs fire. Try to use it against something that has a high fire resist, like anything in lavastorm/sola/solb, and you will be loosing out on a significant portion of this weapons damage capabilities. Now, get a cold based weqapon or two, and good night naggy...
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 10 2001 at 10:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hmmm most liekly a pre epic(ie: like 53-54) weapon. Not the greatest but not bad by far.
RE: Hmm
# Dec 11 2001 at 12:44 AM Rating: Decent
Um. I have epic and i would wear these in offhand.
I don't see what everyone is complaining....
# Dec 10 2001 at 9:54 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I'm not a totally ubre player but I have done some higher end raids. From what I see of the new Luclin items, they ARE good but they aren't TOO good. They lack AC for the most part. They may have some nice stats but isn't AC rather important, especially to the melee classes? I think Verant is just giving you a new choice. High damage out put from nice stats or the staying power of higher AC. Just my opinion.
Does anyone remember..
# Dec 10 2001 at 7:37 PM Rating: Decent
...back when they said they'd have trivial loot code on Luclin? And they said it'd be ok because the items that drop would be "better"?

It's something to ponder...

They name equipment for people that complain about how other equipment is unfair. This stuff is great to use as an extra edge to maybe take down tormax or heck, even sleeper. Anyway, you shouldnt complain about how powerful something is inless you have it and think it gives you an unfare advantage. Dont complain if its something you just cant have. Great item for monks, Cheers!
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 10 2001 at 9:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The risk vs. reward is waaaay out of whack. The items aren't too good, they're just too easy to get. Verant needs to either dumb the items down or make them harder to get (I don't mean rarer, I just mean harder).
Too Powerful
# Dec 10 2001 at 6:57 PM Rating: Default
I noticed all these items i'm seeing from Luclin are over-powered. They are making sum of these items just as good as epics while they drop of mobs.
Also i would just like to add Verant needs to tell people ahead of time when they are making a drastic Requirement like - "Windows 98 needed" im sure they lost many accounts due to this.

Would you tell your customers, if Micro$oft paid you big bucks simply, to require directx8.1. Which has a small bonus of forcing win95 users to upygrade?
incredible
