Good news for Rogues
# Jul 26 2002 at 10:49 AM Rating: Decent
Price for this gem in the bazaar on Torvo has crashed to 70 pp. While I am sure that the availability of excellent equipment contributed to the fall, I suspect that at least as large a factor is the fact that people either (a) don't realize the value of this thing to a Rogue or (b) don't have the patience to sit on an item that is only useful (really) to a rogue. It's probably more of the latter given the prices Sentient, Darkforge, and Ravenscale are fetching. Still, 70 is ridiculous. If anyone is going to buy it at all they will pay a lot more than that.

I fail to understand why you would say this item is only beneficial to a rogue. I use this on my ranger with a Velium Warsword and I find that I dish out a decent ammount of dam. with the both of them.
RE: Good news for Rogues
# Jan 10 2003 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
Its because rouge Backstab is based in large part to damage. You can get some silly backstabs with this. There is better stuff for non-rouges. VI has to keep the damage and to some degree the delay of rouge piercers down so Backstabs are not godly high and or godly fast.
Haste
# Jul 01 2002 at 8:18 PM Rating: Good
Haste works like this, im not sure but lets say the haste percentage on an FBSS is 27%. You take 1.27 and divide by the delay. Turns a 37 delay weapon into a 30 delay weapon apply this to all hastes and there ya go. It a great weapon for dropping off something lvl 30ish.
RE: Haste
# Jul 15 2002 at 2:16 PM Rating: Decent
I think your formula is correct, so the numbers in my earlier post are slightly off. 50% haste would change the effective ratio on a 12/31 weapon to 12/20.67, and it would change the effective ratio on a 9/20 weapon to 9/13.33.

When you do that sort of math, you run the risk of getting yourself horribly confused. 50% haste does not change a 12/31 weapon into a 12/21 weapon. Instead, it means that someone using a 12/31 weapon with 50% haste will produce the same results as someone using a 12/21 weapon with 0% haste. If the person with the 12/21 weapon has 50% haste, then the effective ratio becomes 12/14.

It's much more useful to look at damage per second (DPS). When you start adjusting ratios, you run the risk of comparing apples to oranges.

jezz for a bunch of level 50s yall dont know **** trust me delay doesnt matter everyone has haste at higher levels and you will be hitting so fast you wont believe it at 50% haste its 12/15 about thats just an fbss and a haste spell away what cant be change is the damage and you can only haste so much unless your a bard with haste cap song that allows you to exceed the cap id rather have a 12/15 than a 9/15 any day remember a 9/20 weapon cannot exceed the haste cap so it can only go so fast 9/12 is the max i think were as with fbss and a 30% haste spell would be 52% thus breaking the haste cap on a 9/20 weapon but not on a 12/31 which would be roughly 12/16
RE: math wiz
# Jun 11 2002 at 3:23 AM Rating: Decent
You're ******** yourself up by trying to apply haste percentages to weapon delays. It doesn't work that way. 50% haste does not reduce weapon delay by 50%. If it did, 100% haste would reduce weapon delay to zero. If you insist on applying haste percentages to weapon delays, 50% haste would change the effective ratio on a 12/31 weapon to approximately 12/23, and it would change the effective ratio on a 9/20 weapon to 9/15.

Some math wiz you are.

nice weapon ill get one for my bard because delay really doesnt matter to us anyway considering we have like five songs with haste nice weapon for even high level rogues at higher levels your going to have a haste item and probalbly be in a group with someone casting haste on you so yes at high levels delay wont really matter with all the haste youll be doing about 12/20 which i think is better than say 9/18 good damage dealer when grouped
Why Curfang Was Tormented
# Apr 14 2002 at 6:36 PM Rating: Decent
There were freakin flowers on his dagger!

Seriously! For those of you that have it take a close look at this weapon, there is a flower etched on both sides of the blade.Still a nice weapon though.
Pick is better
# Mar 27 2002 at 12:48 PM Rating: Decent
Why is this worth 500+ ? I'm having a terrible time selling sturdy grimling mining picks (12 29 .4 weight and +3 sv disease ) for 200 each. The picks are not lore either, so you can dual wield them. Are 'style' points really worth that much more pp?

Just to set you right, this isn't a vendor sold piercer, it drops (as stated above), when you kill Curfang in HollowShade Moor on Luclin.

Not Hard To Get...
# Jan 11 2002 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
Go read the section regarding Curfang in Hollowshade Moor. He drops one of these about once in every 3 kills.

Since the Fireclaws got nerfed to level 37, my BST is now using one of these.
Rogue Tactics
# Dec 12 2001 at 7:56 PM Rating: Good
On all this talk of delay, I'll speak up on what I use tactics wise. For solo I use two 17 delay daggers, (Tombcarver and Dagger of Defense) because I deal a ton more straight melee damage. Then for groups I break out a higher damage higher delay weapon for my primary, namely a jagged Chodekai Spine 9 25, in order to land a ton of awesome backstabs while keeping my aggro in check. This is a group fighting dagger no doubt, it hits very hard and even though its slow, it better enables your tank to keep aggro so you have a great big wide open back waiting for a backstab. The rogues job as a secondary tank is to deal a ton of damage and avoid aggro as much as possible, this dagger fits wonderfully in that line of work.

Too true, not enough Rogues out there don't realize thins and therefore leave all of this great weaponry and damage dealings behind. I weild an Ancient Snake Fang in my primary while fighting, 11/30, eff Weak Poison, 60dmg DoT.
Kinda slow but at lvl 36 I am yet to break 200 with BS but I've gotten 197.
RE: Rogue Tactics
# Jan 15 2002 at 1:49 PM Rating: Default
Or, like a bard twisting and juggleing thier songs, you could also twist and juggle your weapons while soloing. So put your fast ones in inbetween stabs, and for the BS lay the smack down with a 12 base backstab.... change back to your fast weapons, wait for refresh... rinse thouroughly, repeat if necasary.

Besides, look at the weight. 0.5 is a great weight on any weapon. even with full haste there will be next to no stamina loss while using this nice blade. Besides, ontop of it all the looks make it worth it, much like the spiny weapons from Twilight Sea that have horrid stats.

Delay does not matter, it's the ratio. Then you add in the damage for the BS and you have a very nice weapon for rogues. I will definately camp this for my alt. (ps look at the pic, looks badass)

# Dec 13 2001 at 12:12 AM Rating: Decent
Camp these? This guy jumped me on my way to grimling forest. Along with about 12 other sonic wolves. The aggro changes that Verant said they were implementing a while back obviously don't apply to luclin NPCs, lol. I'd guess if you're looking for him try near the eastern edge of the zone, and just start killing wolves. Their aggro radius is huge so with a decent 30+ group you'll probably pull and kill half the wolves in the zone!
RE: *drool*
# Dec 12 2001 at 2:30 AM Rating: Decent
ummmm, dly doesn't matter? i think not...
My primary weapon is a crystalline spear, 13/30, and the dly REALLY cuts down on the dmg. backstabs may be higher, but take, say, a trak tooth, 10/20, and the sheer amount of attacks will more than make up for BS dmg in the long run...

Since when does delay not matter? Starting in the high 20s when you get your primary hand dmg bonus, delay starts to matter very much, and ratio be damned.

For example: (using fake numbers)
10/20 1hs vs. 20/40 1hs, wielded by a player with a primary dmg bonus of 8. In two swings of the first weapon, you have a total damage bonus of 16. In that same time, you have swung the 20/40 weapon only once, and therefore gained a damage bonus of only 8. As the primary hand damage bonus goes up, the faster weapons (of somewhat relative ratio) become far superior to slower weapons. There is a very valid reason wurmslayers fall out of favor as you progress beyond 50, and jade maces and DN weapons become far more attractive.

That said, this is hardly a dagger a 50+ rogue would be wielding anyway, and it looks like a decent piercer for mid-level rogues before the primary hand damage bonus starts kicking into high gear.

The guy said that ratio matters more then delay. You just used 10/20 and 20/40 examples, they have the same ratio so of course the lower delay would be better.

actually lammy kicks wurm butt before lvl 20 due to dmg camp and slightly edges it out from thereafter (til 41 when wurm gets slightly over lammy but then lammy edges out and smaokes it again at 42+) .... this is all dmg related info. for taunters (warriors), a wurm is a death sentence to their healers and casters no matter what the lvl.
