Still drops as of 11/15/2007!
As of June 16, 2006, this still drops for all of the nostalgic ones out there.

I looted one of these yesterday (04/21/04) along with several other goodies from both named and un-named mobs in the zone (while on an outting with a couple of guildmates: 61 RNG - me - 60 NEC, and a 63 BRD).
I'll use it, too (with the Steel Hilted Flint Dagger I also got) because it's fast, and my piercing always seems to be just a few points from being maxed.

Still drops as of August 31st 2003. The Golem Master - easy for our group of 57 to 64 lvls.

This weapon and the Fayguard Bladecatcher both proc at level 35.

Still Drops. Very nice weapon- fastest in my inventory! This must have been one of the nicest weapons available when Kunark came out:)

Hmmm I kind of love this little toy in Kael, soloing or whenever I don't have an enchanter/bard with me. The range of the AE is very small and I have even used with a chanter is the tank is pulling away from the mezzed mobs. Just have to keep it in mind is all. Well worth keeping in a backpack at all times

I was going to go to charasis for one of these, but i just see now that it's got that AE proc...only Ranger who wants to use an AE in a group is a n00b in LoIO or something. Mabey i'll still get one for when i solo in VL..i dunno.

The proc is tight. It's also pretty low aggro, unlike a slow spell such as Earthcaller's proc.
If you have something better for your primary, then this may seem like a noobie weapon. Quite honestly though, it hits fast and hits pretty hard. I'm still using it quite a lot at 60, although I switch to a non-proc weapon when necessary.

I can hardly beleive i just read that post made by a Ranger...AoE procs are NOT difficult to make use of man, espeically point blank AoE's.

Im a 47 ranger, I went into HS for the first time with a group of 60's in my guild. I picked this up after a few hours.
When we ported out i went to ec and sold some of the other drops, and ended up with a lupine dagger.
Insanity is all you can say about this teamed with a lupine and schw.

I snuck my level 11 ranger in with my alts and picked this up LOL.

I am sad to report that the Fayguard Parrying Dagger does not appear to drop anymore in HS Crypt keeper. I have camped and hunted in HS for the past few weeks (at least 2 patches before this posting being made). I have killed the crypt keeper 7 or 8 times (when he is up and not the ##$%^$# placeholders). I have gotten several Wildlord gauntlets (POS BL gloves but droppable and thus sellable) and at least 2 Siren Scale Enchanter Robes (good stats and resists). Where once every crypt keeper pop almost always had the dagger, there is none to be seen now. The POS BL gauntlets are the new common drop now for the crypt keeper.
Its inevitable really. Verant (or rather Abashi and later Absor) has stated that weapons delays below 20 (with respectable damage like our dagger here) are much too powerful to be placed on relatively easy mobs like the crypt keeper (think more of Yelinak or Vulaak). Gratz on all the Rangers that got theirs before it dissapeared from the crypt keepers loot table. If it still drops, I would think the drop probabilty is near nil now.

I've seen it twice off The Golem Master. I think Allakhazams loot list is wrong on this one. They're also missing the Elegant Mask of Light which drops in HS. Dropped off one of the named devourers, not The Crypt Feaster, but the other one. Sorry, I forgot his name. Check out the mask on magelo though, very nice upgrade for my 61 chanter.

Hey Mr. "You-Won't-Get-This-On-A-Lark." This item is NO DROP. DUH!!!! You can't just go into any zone and auction around for it in other words. Even a lv 5 n00bie knows that! Oh...what's that? You're only lv 4? Oh, sorry, my mistake.

I don't know if the thought ever passed through ur hollow head but u know rangers CAN still solo post 50. Sure this may not be the best group weapon with enchants and all but in some raid situations like kael where they can't be mezed (and if you have a 1/2 decent puller you'll only get singles anyway) it's great. They gave rangers Jolt for a reason. It's not like they can't take a single mele round like enchanters. Doing be so quick to judge before you know the uses.

Posted: Jun 13 2001 at 10:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) tanks a lot for the info man. and im a ranger. of course this weapon is ranger only. and i think that if i stay just at zoning, and do not go a step in the zone i should be ok to shout no? but i didnt know it needed a key damn how do we get it? if i can manage to go inside the zone and find a "safe" place to auction i should find a group that dont want it after all the proc always break ench mez so it suck. but your totally thre is absolutly no way to go from zone to north wing? even by foloing wall, hiding all being SUPER carefull? usually there is always a way. in the worst csase ill wait till a big group zone in and stay close to them. do you think that if im very determined it could be possible?

Ok, listen you aren't going to get one of these on a lark. Trust me. Here's why:
A: The Crypt Keeper is one of the LAST mobs in the North Wing, and he's surrounded by 7 other mobs + his pet. That is IF he's up. Been there 5 times, only up once (today, got my dagger WOOT)
B: Unless you have a rogue to pick the lock to the North wing, you have to kill a "sperm" mob (bottomless feeder or devourer) to get a TALLOW MARKED CANDLE to open the door. They are level 45-49 in range.
C: The stuff on the way to the Crypt Keeper is just pure evil. The skele's are SK's and harm touch anywhere from 491 - 581 hp's. I took 4 of them at once today and took 2144 hp's damage in 2 seconds. Died b4 I knew what hit me.
So to sum it up. You are not going to get one of these daggers by just going into the zone and /auctioning around. My advice: Wait until you are of level and have explored the zone a bit with some experienced people. It'll save you alot of unneccesasry CR's.

Well you're right on all of those, but he had a decent plan, hanging around the zone auctioning to LOOT one, but he'd get shredded by the mobs there....
Personally this is an awesome ranger piercer and if you can get down there to get it, great to up piercing skill, if you're in a ranger heavy guild you might have a chance to get this =)

Mobs can't be mezzed in Kael anyways, would be a good weapan jfor that zone

i would sell my soul for one of those, but really for how much do you think they would let me loot one of i hang in the zone auctioning? being a 31 ranger non twinked whitout any other character i know you will all laff of me but i have nice funds. a small aproxiamtion would be great

This would rock for soloing...since you will pull the opponent to a safe spot anyway. And if you should happen to get two...well, that aoe might come in handy.
But you're all right...in a chanter-based group, this spells trouble.

Isn't word of pain a point blank AoE? I thought it would only effect those that are in melee range.
It is a Point Blank EXTREMELY short range AE spell. So all the others sayin you can nots use this, speakin as a ranger that haves used one in Seb, Kael, Howlin Stones... your wrong.
The range is only 20 EQ units from the ranger usin it. So do nots listen to any non cleric, this is a cleric only spell, or any non ranger, since this is ranger only dagger, tellin you this is a bad weapon.

This dagger is for when you're pulling trains for AoE parties. Sure the AoE only does 29 damage all around, but did you notice the delay?
I'd recommend not using this unless you're in an AoE group, or you really want to die quickly and have a very angry enchanter wanting to kill you after you get rezzed.
