Whacked with the nerf bat

Update on this item: In my experience, its best use has been to loot it and then sell if for 200+pp...As of the April 23, 2003 patch, it now sells for 23pp at most (with 2 opal encrusted steins and max faction)

Yup, I went to vendor expecting the usual 200pp today and only got 23pp.
Damage bonus on secondary
# Mar 07 2003 at 2:48 PM Rating: Decent
Are you guys sure the damage bonus does not apply to offhand? I have a 45 ranger who hits in the high 40s with both primary and secondary weapons (my weapons are 12/25 and 12/26, respectively) with 160STR.

I know STR affects damage output per hit, but from what I can tell, both my primary and offhand weapons seem to be getting the full bonuses from STR and Level. Could this be a quirk of the Ranger class, or perhaps there is a minimum stat requirement to get the bonus on the offhand?

The simple answer to your question comes from the answer to this question:

Do you ever hit for 1(one) damage?

If you do then no, your offhand doesn't get the bonus. If you never hit for only 1 damage, then you are either incredibly lucky or the damage bonus applies to both of your weapons.

It's been very well established in the past that the damage bonus only applies to the primary hand when using 1 handed weapons. But that's not to say that things can't change.
POS or not POS
# Nov 13 2002 at 3:03 AM Rating: Decent
When I first got this as a drop I thought it to be a useless weapon (for me). I stuck it in the bank and there it stayed for months. Went to clean out the bank last nite and just sold everything to a vendor, and to my surprise the vendor gave me 214pp for it. So as far as I can tell this piece is just merchant fodder, but very nice fodder.

the inventory icon is the same as a SSOY, but the actual graphic when it's equiped is like the electrum-bladed wakizashi.
Actually, it does have SOME stats, and..

I was 'loaned' this sword from a friend of mine (30-some ranger, I believe), and he reports that this weapon, for him, has a HUGE damage bonus. I, as a level 17 bard, do not receive any listed damage bonus, but he says it is so. Also, I could believe that looking for a 'slayer of beasts' could easily refer to this weapon. An NPC in shadeweaver asks for a symbol that shows that you have earned the Vah Shir's trust. You give him the Hero's Shroud to continue the quest, the only way of knowing it to be such a symbol by the fact that he was 'looking for a hero', and that the person who gives you the shroud says 'take it as a token of our gratitude.' Not every quest is quite so specific as they used to be, in Luclin.

I got this weapon last night while looking for Owlbear pelts and it has the same DMG Bonus as any other weapon. DMG bonus is a calculation based on LVL, not by weapon (exception 2H weapons over 40 delay). The calculation is ((LVL-25)/3) rounding down. So DMG Bonus goes:

+1 at lvl 28
+2 at lvl 31
+3 at lvl 34
+4 at lvl 37
+5 at lvl 40
+6 at lvl 43
Etc....

I don't know the calculation for 2H weapons over 40 delay, but I think (don't quote me) that you just double the numbers above. Unfortunately I play a Bard and cant use 2 handed weapons to chech it out.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 24 2002 at 6:31 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) at lvl 34 someone got 4 points to their damage bonus?
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 24 2002 at 10:29 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) wow bad spelling, complete misinformation, and no ability to calculate weapon ratios, all in one post!
RE: Actually, it does have SOME stats, and..
# Feb 18 2002 at 2:02 PM Rating: Decent
To my understanding, damage bonus does not affect the base damage of a weapon. So a damage bonus of 4 would not make this weapon 12/24. It would still hit as 8/24 with up to 4 points of damage added to each hit.
RE: Actually, it does have SOME stats, and..
# Feb 12 2002 at 2:46 PM Rating: Default
There are several damage bonuses in the game, one is the two handed damage bonus, and another is the primary hand damage bonus. I don't remember what the exact stats are for them per level and such, but they are both listed on items now, but are two seperate things.

I don't know much about damage bonuses. The only thing I know for sure is that when I hit 29 as a warrior I started getting a +1 damage bonus. This has applied to every weapon I have; piercing, 1hs, 2hs; primary or offhand. It has also shown up on the stats of weapons I have seen with merchants while "window shopping." That includes blunt weapons. I don't know when it increases, as my highest level character is only 30. But it does start with +1 at 29 and does apply to all weapons. My wife's 30 level paladin says the same thing.

Melee classes, starting at 28, get a damage bounus which is primary hand only (which is the reason why low delay is very important in the primary, while not so important in the secondary). For 1handed weapons it starts at 1 and goes up 1 point every 3 levels. The bonus is the same for all 1handed weapons reguardless of delay (one of the reasons you see few high levels with a wurmslayer). 2handed weapons get a higher bonus, but it is dependent on delay (bigger delay = bigger bonus). For example at 52 I have a damage bonus of 9 for 1handed weapons, while 2 different 2handers I have get 17 (not sure if this is the exact number) for a 40 delay and 21 for a 49 delay. The 1handed damage bonus has always been there(it used to be the same no matter if weapon was 1h or 2h), Verrant just decided to start making it visible to you when you inspect an item. The change made to damage bonus was on 2handed weapons in an attempt to make 2handers, especially high delay ones, a more viable alternative at high level. Basically it makes 2handers useful at high level unless you are the main tank (if you're main tank you need low delay for maintaining agro). Hope this helps out =)

Thats a stretch. the NPC's are very particular about what they want. a slayer of beasts could be anything, including a character willing to kill beasts. If this NPC asked for a sword that was a slayer of beasts, you would be getting closer. From my experience the NPC would take it a step further and say I require Urmiir, the sword of beast slaying. I would wager good money if you gave an NPC this sword when he/she asked for a slayer of beasts he would say "Uhm.. thanks, im not quite sure what i'll do with this"

Take some more time to check out the Luclin quests and you'll find that there are a few that aren't as specific as the older ones. For instance, in Shadeweavers Thicket, there is a barbarian named Groo McManus that asks for "A Spirit Anchor" and only tells you that creatures in the pit surrounding Shal Var drop them and that there is a Vah Shir in the thicket who could tell you more. The spirit anchor turned out to be a needle claw from a rockhopper.

Well, if a character can get this at a much lower level than a SSOY, it's a nice weapon. If I could get one of these at level 20, it would make an excellent companion to my SSoM. In hindsight, of course..
Stat change?

You can sell this to merchants, depending on /con and CHA, for over 200pp. (Cats wanted to give me 210; Freeport allies would give me 235. My CHA is 84). If you're selling you might as well sell to a merchant because SSOYs are selling as low as 500 or less these days.

hehe...and the merchant in turn sells it for 3367p and a couple lesser coins. Just saw it at merchant in moor.

if you're gonna give something such an exstensively uniue and kickass name, you shouldn't do it shame by giving it such crappy stats.

Umm.. just a quick thought. Do we know that this weapon has crappy stats? I mean, is there a rule that VI has to list every ability a weapon has? What if this weapon does something that just isn't listed? Just my 2 cp!

Thats like saying if a movie has a good title, it should be a good movie.
Don't you remember that 50% of this game is played by the 1-50 crowd?
Wrong on 50%
# Feb 18 2002 at 4:11 PM Rating: Decent
I read on SONY's web site, they took a look at the server populations recently. They found that across all servers, that on average 75% or more characters were in the lvl 50+ range. This was for characters that were "In Game" so 50% being lvl 1-50 is WAY off. Sorry, this has become a high end game!
RE: a good name, wasted
# Dec 16 2001 at 12:07 PM Rating: Decent
eq isn't a movie. items are given such a unique title type name, they're usually extremely good items...artifacts even. this is an 8/24 sword with no stats. i think everyone here can agree that this is pretty sad for such a unique tile, and that was my point. it's a SSOY without the ykesha effect.

I found this item while killing owlbears for their pelts. It reads the same (except with the normal 1HS damage bonus) to my bard. I'm holding onto it in hopes that it will be for a quest or something...that and I like sharp pointy things.

Intersting, how many people are comparing this item to a yak and it indeed looks like a yak as well.

This weapon is not caster useable according to the info above, so that can't be the reason.

Yeah, not caster usable, but a caster CAN have it in their invintory. You don't have to equip it to get a screenshot of the item.
