The bane damage is added to the base damage of the weapon, therefore against undead this is a 13/24.

A friend in an uber guild told me this item was nerfed... no longer drops...

It was posted on here "On The Rathe server they have pretty muched Nerfed this NPC" so have they done that with all servers?

It still drops, just not as often. This is the typical post-release decrease in crazy drop rates. They also increased the challenge of the zone by changing the MR of most if the spawns.

A Little Practical Info
# Dec 27 2001 at 9:53 PM Rating: Good
This weapon drops from a skeleton named Hierophant Grazan (not "Gerek" as posted here... there is no such named skellie). After personally killing him 7 or 8 times, I can offer the following tidbits:

- He pops in the NE corner of the zone. There is a sprawling skellie field there, and any of them can be a ph for him.

- You can "force" him to pop in an area dense with skellies by slaughtering them by the truckload. Grazen has a chance to spawn every time a skellie spawns, so the more ya kill, the more chances for Grazen.

- He's a total wuss, and should be no problem for any solo druid in his 50's... if you can manage to pull him solo. Simply root and cook to perfection.

- My loot experience: 1 shield, 3 scimitars, 3 clattering bone necklaces.

Do you think you would be interested in selling one to me?? I know they sell for 11K but was wondering if you would be interested in selling one to me for 5K?? I don't have that much yet, but am madly saving my money for one by porting, porting, porting! I don't have Luclin yet either and sure would appreciate the help! Please let me know. Thanks so much!

I sure think its a nice Scimi. I've been hunting in The Grey for a few days now, and haven't seen hierophant Gerek at all. I have killed Hierophant Grazen several times though. Any information of where Gerek spawns would be really helpfull. Did you see him at the ruins, temple, lake or castle? which are his ph's? Tormented, forlorn, sun reverants or shissar even?

Thanks I really hope someone out there can help on some info on this guy.

Well I found out that the Scimi is the rare drop from Hierophant Grazen. Ph's are tormented iksar slaves. I dont even think a mob named Hierophant Gerek exists....

I got one of these blades 3 days ago. Gave it to my ranger (yes, he's twinked) and decided to go back and see if i could get another. After 2 hours of soloing, he spawned and i killed him. Very easy to kill at 55 using regular druid soloing tactics. In fact the hierophant was actually easier to kill than the shimmering rockfiends in the zone. He took all snare, root and dots like a good little boy with no resists. Got my second one and this druid will use it until he gets his epic. = )

If you have been playing this game long enough to be able to fight in The Grey and think that wisdom controls how fast you learn weapon skills you need help.

He never said anything about how fast you learn weapon skills. I'm pretty sure he was refering to skills in general like trade skills and those that use Int./Wis. for increases. Think before you start flaming someone. Oh, and I am not flaming you but merely informing you of your mistake...there is a big difference.

Well i'm not sure what level this guy is, not too tough tho, we killed him pretty handily in a single group averaging 51. Killed him twice within half an hour, dropped the sword both times, he drops the sword, a shield, or a collar, if you dont see sword or shield then he has the collar. havent been back to the grey since they "adjusted" the levels there though, so might not be as easy for a single group pull anymore

My 56 Warrior got one of these off a named Skully in the Grey last night. Much improved blade over the GJB I was using in offhand previously.and It looks like Sword in hand of the Beastmaster on the log on page except it has a beautiful etched gold ornamentation on the blade. A keeper for this Warrior.
Why is it not good for warriors?
# Dec 11 2001 at 10:15 AM Rating: Decent
Everyone says it's great for Pally's and Rangers, and Druids. Why not Warriors too?

It has a nice damage delay ratio. Warriors have the highest damage bonus when it comes to weapons. My Vah Shir warrior would like this in his off hand big time because of the wis bonus. Vah Shir (and a couple other warrior capable races) start with a higher wisdom than intelligence and it has been said by verant that whichever is higher of the two, Wis/ Int determines skil increases. So this weapon makes for and excellent weapon for a wisdom high warrior to gain his 1hs skill in.

As much as any of you would say that it would be wrong I would roll on this for my warrior in a heart beat.

Well, That's my 2cp on the idea of wisdom/intelligence items for warriors.
RE: Why is it not good for warriors?
# Dec 11 2001 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
It comes down to who would get the most benefit from the weapon. I agree that this would be a nice weapon for a warrior but no wear nearly as effective as other weapons of choice that a warrior should be using at the level needed to obtain this. If you obtain this with a group of friends or a guild, you would be wrong to roll on this with a druid or wis hybrid that could benefit more. How many weapons does a druid have that has a decent dmg ratio and the wis to boot? Your skills will go up with or without the wis. Having wis/int should never be in an equation on why it would benefit a warrior more. It simply is one of those nice to have things if it is on the item.
RE: Why is it not good for warriors?
# Dec 11 2001 at 2:36 PM Rating: Excellent
Don't get the staement that I would roll on this itme mean I would not pass if it were an upgrade to one of my parties items. I prefer to defer if the item is an upgrade to someone's equipment. That's just my style.

Althought I hate to say that your last comment fell into that meriad of others that follows the lines of....

"At this level you should already have better than this."

That statement has to be one of the most interesting causes for arguments. The problem is that not everyone has ubber guilds and groups and can't play long in the "high end" zones to get ubber gear so those who asume that at whatever level is required to get an item you should already have better is the statements of 3 types of people.

1. Those lucky enough to be in good guilds and get the items on raids.

2. People who are not this level and seem to think they know better because they happened to see that person in the category above, so they assume everyone that level must have one or better.

3. Those who have nothing but extra time to farm all those items that make it seem like category 2 people are correct because they are selling lots of them or whatever.

Now do not take the above post as a slight against you but I truly am tired of hearing the comment "At this level you should have better already." It's completely nuts because I surf through the site and see these really cool items that are an upgrade to my 51 shaman or my wife's 51 druid (in this case) and to ready the messages saying their only good for twinks.

My final question is what does anyone know on the level of the mob that drops this?

Anyways, if you read the whole post thank you for your time and I hope I did not offend anyone.

Chow

My only poiint is that, above 51, you really should have awesome equipment. I have been playing for about 2 months or so. About 1 month in I realized I needed pp if I wanted cool stuff. I didnt belong to an Large Guild, I knew only a few ppl in the game, so I decided to play the economy. Buy low, sell high, simple concept. By about lvl 26-27 i had accumulated 20k with the start up capital coming from Shiny Brass Idol's I had been running from Highpass Hold to EC (and they are lore =\). My point is, lvl and uber guilds have nothing to do with the gear your sporting... If you could play on the economy and make some dough, you will have awesome gear, and even now I see this as the best way for making pp....

ciao!

Its certainly possible to make a lot of cash buying and selling. My main tips would be spells and tradeskill items (pelts etc).

Just after the release of luclin the new spells were selling for an insane amount, It was possible to buy for as little as 500-1k and sell for over 5k. It has leveled out a little but a good profit can still be made from spells.

Secondly your going to have to spend a lot of time in nfp or where ever to buy and sell and to get to know the prices on your server so you might as well work on a trade skill as well, tailoring is a pretty good form of income, buy pelts and either sell your wares or trade them for more tailoring supplies. A lot of people will collect you a stack of say othmir fur/wyvern hide for one or 2 pieces of that armour. Similarly the acrylia stuff is a pretty rare drop, buying and selling this stuff can make you a lot of cash.

I dont know how the jewelry market works but tailoring is pretty much all based on drops so theres a chunk of cash and some good skill to be made from this. You end up never having to collect pelts yourself and making more armours than you need to give away in exchange for them.

Velous quest gems are currently selling for between 200 and 450 a gem. If you can buy them at the low end and make a hundred or so plat per gem its a pretty good margin. I would advise trading for more tailoring suplies and making that your main source of income.

Drawbacks though are as your spending so much time in nfp your leveling will suffer, but its a living if you have a lot of time where you cant exactly play but can be online. Hiding from the boss as work and such like.

Enough rambling from me.

Damage bonuses for idiots:

The weapon damage bonus shown (in this case damage bonus: 11) is ENTIRELY dependant on the person inspecting it. In this case they are a 60 melee character. Were it inspected by a level 45 melee, this damage bonus would show up as 6 - i.e. they would see a different weapon profile. If it were looked at or equipped by a druid of any level they would see NO damage bonus, because DRUIDS DO NOT RECEIVE A LEVEL BASED DAMAGE BONUS.

However, everyone would recieve the *bane* damage bonus. Thus vs undead this is indeed a 13 24 weapon. But it is only a 23 24 scimitar in the hands of a level 60 melee. I hope this helps the many, many confused people here.

Right, now moving on. This isn't a great druid weapon unless you're twinking a guy at a level sufficiently low that he'll melee. Reasonable wis but an 8wis 50mana item can be had from ToFS quite easily.

Paladins and rangers will be the only other classes to benefit from the wis, but rangers will benefit the most from this weapon since there are a wide variety of paladin 1HS weapons with superior stats. Also many rangers fail to realise that high delay weapons are a good thing for them (how many times do you see them running into combat dual wielding lammys then ******** about how they get aggroed and need better jolts?). 15 30, for example, is MUCH better for a class that doen't want to get aggroed than 10 20.

The AC is a nice touch, and makes it lean slightly towards the tanks, but if I were to see this drop I'd probably have it lottoed between rangers and paladins.
RE: Right...
# Dec 10 2001 at 3:56 PM Rating: Default
Damage bonus is not added to the damage of the weapon, but added to the final damage on inflicts upon a foe.

hehe your right Draeloir, he is thinking of old Melee Dmg bonus, right before Luclin came out, they gave all weapons a Dmg Bonus of at least 1... and all it does is say its a 12/24, and you hit for 28, well a dmg bonus of 11 would make the 28 a 39, it would not make the weapon a 23, which would make this weapon a 23/24, which would be the best item in the game... have FUN!... ps... the AC on this makes it very good for melee class who dont have sheilds to wear, anybody who things its not good for Dual Handers
Look.

Anyway, sweet pre-epic scimitar for a druid, and looks nicer too *wink

One happy druid
Bane Dmg
# Dec 09 2001 at 5:03 PM Rating: Decent
The bane dmg bonus and innate dmg bonus are very different. While your innate dmg bonus is added onto the dmg done by a successful swing(ie: in this case the 11dmg bonus is not added onto the weps base dmg and DOES NOT 23/24 wep but instead every time you hit a mob 11dmg will be added to that) Verant has stated (saw it as a quote on castersrealm) that Bane dmg is added directly unto the weps base dmg when fighting that type off mob. So when you are fighting an undead mob this does become a 13/24 weapon.

This is way dmg bonus will vary according to level and the person handling the weapon but other wise is normaly fairly high while Bane Dmg will stay the same as different lvl/class ppl look at it and it usually fairly low (like 1-3)
RE: Bane Dmg
# Dec 09 2001 at 5:16 PM Rating: Decent
hmm, ok, my bad. Thanks for the clarification. Cooly, so that means for every point of Bane DMG you actually do 2 additional points of damage to that type of mob. Nice...

I think you're a bit confused. I myself do not know the damage calculations exactly, but i *do* know that it's not DMG x 2 + 1 or whatever you posted. If that was so, you wouldn't see warriors hitting in 1-200s constantly. Friend of mine constantly hits for around 200, and cripples for upwards of 700, with an Argent Protector. Now if your formula was accurate, his max hit would be 85. (42/49 on AP). Again, maybe you misunderstood something somewhere.. but that doesn't add up.
