I am a 56 paladin who is interested in trying to get a grodans Idol but ME has been such a Bring Your Own Group kinda place and i hate dragging guildies around for minimal xp and loot when most of my guild members are 60plus and have had their share of Luclin loot and usually go to PoP or other places for upgrades NE idea if a 56 paladin could use pacify and pally procs n stuff to single pull and try this camp with new LoY heal over time and KEI and prob aego buff or somethign what my chances would be? if gear has ne thing to do with it here is my humble stuff...

http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=397867

any info would be apreciated cause as you can see from my magelo i need AGI bad =)

I can solo this with my level 55 bst.
My girl-friend has a pala around my level and has more problems soloing stuff, because she can't do as much damage.
Get a bst or war at same level with you for damage. I believe a war gladly come along and you can hitting them until you both have one.

This was a while ago, so you're probably not still wondering, but to anyone else wondering the same:

Grab a 56+ NEC and head over there. The NEC can easily solo these beasts, but you're there for safety. They need to grab a bat with charm, buff it, and then pull a coterie with slow and then root the coterie while the bat shreds it. Bang, bam, boom, you've got a corpse to loot.

If the bat breaks charm and the coterie breaks root at the same time, let the NEC get the bat back and you tank the (safely slowed) coterie until he's done. He'll need to have ST up to mez the bat, and then he'll need to re-charm and send the bat back into the fray when ST breaks.

You should get about one of these per hour at current drop rates from what I've seen. I have one, and I play a NEC, but the corpse was going to rot and I hate seeing good items poof :)

I dinged 51 tonight so I decided to take a look around Maiden's Eye and came across the Coteries in the buildings to the right of DSP zoneline.

I single pulled the middle one with Shackle of Spirit, it conned yellow to me, I then ran it away from the buildings toward DSP zone for a safer area to snare/fear.

I set my pet onto it and let it tank a while, these mobs seriously hurt but when slowed with Shackle of Spirit the 49 Necro pet does a remarkable job of tanking, I then cast Dooming Darkness/Invoke Fear and hit it with Splurt and Ignite Blood (E-Bolt resisted everytime) a couple times each.

It died and dropped the idol. I soloed a few more and sometimes aggro kiting was required because some of them were really resistant - maybe because of my level, I had Jboots so no worries.

Shackle of Spirit is such a lovely spell for this kind of mob.

Hi all,
I am curious if you think a 55 cleric would be able to single pull the vamps to a safe spot and solo them?

If not, you suppose a 50 Pally could with c3?? maybe a 49 druid ??

The idol sounds sweet and the ac 12 +4 to all stats boots sound like the bomb!

I have all 3 characters camped close and ready to try...just deathly afraid of DEATH!!

Thanks,

I would have to say no, we bring a small group consisting of a warrior (50-54 or so), shaman for slows and heals (55), and myself (52-53 paladin) and we can single the camp. If you get adds, it's over. More characters (necros, wizards, etc) help to expedite smoking the mobs in quicker fashion. Clerics help with downtime for sham.

My 54 pally needs 1 CH to take these things and can single pull them without too much of a problem. I wouldn't want to rely on a lvl 49 kiting them, although they are very easily kited with 60 wizzy friend and my 53 chanter. (I know that sounds like a stupid statement, but they are decently resistant below 52ish unless you are chanter and can tash em of course.)

LOL on second thought I would say no do not solo as a melee hehe. Think I just got lucky as hell that day and only fought 4 or 5 of em because I tried one yesterday solo and the thing tapped me 4 times in a row and I was dead when it was barely past 80 health. (I did have a cleric partner but apparently he didn't understand the concept of healing because I dropped without a single heal or buff.)

I wouldn't even try soloing anything in ME.

The coterie will be white/yellow/red to those chars, and hit for 150s easy, with the 200 pt lifetap. I'm 52 and I can't take them or even tank them for long without a healer.

I don't recall root or spook the dead working on them very well - spook doesn't work on those darned bats.

Lol, you can solo VERY easily in ME. Almost all the mobs, except nameds can be soloed. Obviously, as a Paladin, or any other melee class, you can't solo anything because tanks can't solo. If you were a necromancer, or wizard, or ench, or mage, or shaman, or beastlord, or ranger, any class that can cast and/or snare, you can easily solo almost anything in ME.

I have soloed the Goranga's without too much difficulty and the Xi Vius as well as a 55 sk with decent gear. Not that hard but always nice to have a group. Also i have soloed for most of my experience up to lvl 55 so tanks can solo.

While I was at work my wife (57 Druid) and a friend of hers (60 Wizzy) were camping the vamps for the earing they drop. Low and behold one of them drops the idol. The wife logs on my Warrior and rushes me over there but couldn't get to it in time =/

For kicks later that night we went back there with my warrior and cleric with her druid and we went for it again. Some friends showed up and we made a good time of it. Strait up tankin these bad boys with my 53 war was suckin down the mana on my cleric (also 53) so we decided to kite em. Oddly enough snare really (and I mean REALLY) pisses these guys off so my wife just kept casting snare on them running back and forth along the zone line while we attacked it from behind. Worked well.

Anyway, after about an hour WHAMMO!! one drops. Can you say one happy Warrior? =) We kept pullin the vamps trying to get an earing to drop for the mage in the group and WHAMMO!! another one drops about 30 minutes later! Can you say two happy Warriors? Earring never did drop and this was my first time hunting these things so I couldn't tell ya if 3 idols in one day was Ultra Amazing or the norm but it has the posibility of multiple drops in a fairly short amount of time.

Happy hunting!

Just an update, we got a group together and hit the vamps again. Idol dropped on the first kill. Starting to look like this is a fairly common drop.
LUCKY!!!

Man I read your post and thought I would be as lucky as you were and BOY WAS I WRONG! I sat there with a group I got together for hours and NOTHING we never got that dang idol. From your post I thought I could easily get that idol but I was totally wrong! Just to inform you that you were TOTALLY lucky man.

Drops off

This Drops off the Coterie Centurion's there is a camp of 3 near the DSP zone, just hug the right wall and you will see 2 small buildings with alot of bats around them.

There are 3 of these Centurion's here 1 of each in the building and one in the centre. These guys go invis so they are not easy to see. Best way to pull solo I have found is to walk near the back of the buildings until you gain agro, you will pull one and then on the go to other building then pull another(try avoiding pulling from the centre) then take the centre mob.

The Centurions HT for around 200hp and als Flurry. they are a good fight for a single group of around 54+ maybe a little lower.

A good camp is near the ridge next to these buildings and once these Centurions are cleared you can pull, Skeletal Drudges, Centi's and Xi's.
I tend not to pull bats, wolves and worms if I can avoid them, they are not worth the effort IMHO.

Well answering my own post here. After hunting in ME for a week, I finally saw 2 of these drop in about 3 hours of camping the vamps last night. That is not at all typical though. I would estimate that in the previous week my groups have killed around 50 of these vamps and only have seen Shrouded Shoes drop off all the re-dead. We got very lucky to see 2 of these drop in one night now that the zone was nerfed.

Now for some strategy to single pull the Coterie Lego and Cents. First of all, you do not need a balanced group or even a full group to kill these things effectively. Part of the problem in getting the good loot in ME is that everyone is scared to leave the zone line unless they have the chanty/cleric/shaman/3 tank perfect group. All it takes is some strategy.

To single pull these guys your puller needs the Sense the Dead spell. What I did was to head close to the building and cast sense the dead. The Coterie are inside some huts, so you need sense dead to target them since running inside a hut will aggro all 3 vamps in the camp. Once one was targeted, I pulled with a stun spell. This gave me time to make it back to my group even without SoW. For some reason you can still cast on these things even if they are inside a hut and you can't see them, but arrows will not work. Now just beat them down, but be careful for their flurry. Their flurry can hit you 6-8 times for 100-150 AND each hit has a chance to proc a 200 lifetap meaning one flurry can drop you 2k hp pretty fast, so keep them off your casters.

Well I hope this helps someone get this sweet range item. Good luck.

A 60 druid in my guild does a lot of soloing here and this thing drops A LOT. About one time every night minimum. Everybody that can wear it and wanted one, has one in our guild.

Definetly not a bad item, I am sure they are going to nerf Maiden's Eye soon so it is definetly a place you want to fight! Espically this item, it is going to turn out like Idol of the Thorned.

I hope to get one soon, looks very good

Be more accurate to say you get 3 more ac after the net ac from the 15ac. If it was 18 ac I would net 27 ac wearing it. 18 X 1.5 = 27. As 15ac and 10 agility this nets out at almost 26 ac: 15 X 1.5 = 22.5 plus 3.3 ac for the agility bonus.

Got 4 to drop one day in 7 hours of Vampire killing. We were actually there to try and get the Earring (AC10, =7Wis, +7Int ones) from the Vampires. Never did see one of the earrings drop, but plenty of the Magi No Drop ones, and these.

Perhaps item farming is out. But to say hard work is rewarded is going a bit far. This is an easy trip to make.

I took my level 20 warrior there and camped him just outside ME. Anytime something for a melee drops that no one wants I log him in and loot it.

Simple and effective, and I hardly 'earned' it.

I don't have any problem with people looting items that nobody in my group can use, but it's going a little overboard in Maiden's Eye right now. Tonight we had 3 separate people come and sit behind our group and loot corpses we had no use for. It's like a vulture hanging over you waiting for you to die *or the loot timer to expire*. It didn't bug me much until the lvl. 20 monk came and waited for our drops.

Wouldn't go saying it's exactly common. I've only seen 1 drop in MANY many hours of vampy killin'.

Level to obtain = 55 seems a little high. All have been blue at 53, so 1 group of low 50's should be able to take these guys without a problem. (dare I say high 40's? hmm...would be a challenge.)

RE: better than idol of the thorned?

At the level this item would be attainable, a shammy would be more than capable of getting your sta maxxed out (gnomes and elves possible exceptions). Thus the increased AC, pure HP, and minor resists on this item would make it a no-brainer for any raiding tank.

Also, please note class restriction. Whether or not this is a better item is irrelevant to many classes who like to keep around some range AC hotkeyed for those situations where getting beat on for a while is inevitable.

Ouch. Everyone was paying top plat for an idol of the thorned and now SoL has no less then 4 ac/stat/resist alternatives for the ranged slot for the tanks. This is great news for tanks, but bad news if you purchased a thorned idol recently.
