Really Lucky Me
# Feb 28 2002 at 8:05 AM Rating: Decent
I was given one. 8^P
At level 9. 8^P
I started off doing 30 damage. (For a lvl 9 better than 2hs, at that level.) Now I'm a level 21 with 1hs maxed, still only doing about 35. Doesn't appear to have a damage cap, at least the one at 20. I still use it when I want the sta and str buff, but am working on lvling up my 2hs, since I neglected it to 20. My Arbitor's Combine Greatsword was feeling a little lonely, but not any more. I haven't maxed it out yet, but am doing a max of 69 points with it. Woo Hoo!!!
Just say "no" to slow forehand weapons, Warriors
# Feb 27 2002 at 3:19 PM Rating: Decent
Please, warriors 40+, keep this weapon in your offhand if you get it. There are plenty of speedy weapons out there for you forehand that are rapidly decreasing in price (i.e. lammy, whatever). Trust me, you will notice an increase in your taunt.
Oh, and that brings up another point, SELL THAT WURMSLAYER.
thanks

I agree at higher lvl this is best used in the off hand. However speed does not always equil more taunt. The biggest factor in determaining taunt is total damage done. That is why a Wiz can draw agro with only "touching" the mob once.

At high lvl the fast weapons out damage the slower ones because of the damage bonus. However there are a limited number of "fast weapon" that can out damage the Wurmmy.
For example the Centi Long sword will never out damage, nor out taunt a Wurmmy. Sure at some point you want to retire the old wurmmy, but make sure you are actually getting as much or nearly as much damage, with your so called fast weapon as you did with your old wurmy

To emphasise this these figures show the Wurmy (as much as I hate the slow ***** PoS) doesn't "expire" until about 50th when compared to the faster 1hders and even at that level it still out damages the Centi LS.

Centi Longsword
Damage/min @ Level
40th 458
45th 481
50th 524

Wurmslayer
Damage/min @ Level
40th 507
45th 524
50th 554

Lamentation
Damage/min @ Level
40th 472
45th 504
50th 565

Figures taken from copelands using Warrior with 150 strength.

Wurmy is still a good choice even in the light of the cheap Centi's and Lamentations.
It's no good below 20 tho, I hate seeing twinks with Wurmslayers, damage caps make it useless at low levels.

I am currently a lvl 26 Ranger and i am using an Ebony Bladed Word and a Centi SS. I like the Centi LS and was wondering if i should save to get one of em. I've been told they are good but for the price, is there something out there that is better for a ranger to use? I am looking to spend anywhere from 500-1k on a 1HS weapon. Is this the best for that price range?

Not for a while. These are a little slow for a primary weapon, but at 23rd level your primary weapon damage bonus is virtually nonexistant so it won't be an issue. Once you pass the level 30 mark though you might want to consider getting a faster weapon for your mainhand, however.

I have a lvl 31 Ranger that uses a Centi LS and Springwood Club (normally... also have an Icy Blade, Ebony Bladed Sword, and a Velium Short Blade)... I was wondering if I should sell my Centi LS and buy a Lammy. Or if I should just save my money and stick with the weapons I already have?

If I stick with my current weapons... What should be in primary and what should be in secondary? Thanks =)
RE: Weapons...
# Feb 25 2002 at 8:47 AM Rating: Decent
i would have to say stick with the centi LS. That lammy isn't gonna sell well enough or trade for a lammy alone, youl'll have to dish out the cash, the damage is great for a ranger, and the delay will be good to keep the taunt off of you and on the main tank. i would probably suggest for an off hand another centi weapon ls or ss, maybe a shaded blade or shaded dagger. or if you can afford getting a lupine dagger.

Holding Taunt
# Feb 20 2002 at 9:09 AM Rating: Decent
I have been dual wielding these for about a month and have enjoyed the leveling! The only time I seem to have a problem holding taunt is when a rogue rips a major backstab or one of the nukers fires a little too early...
The stamina drain is only a problem when soloing or if I am the only melee, in a balanced group it seems fine.

If you have 2 of the pre-nerf centi Longswords, and your stamina is still under 100, something is wrong. If it's over 100, being out of stamina won't hurt. So, if for some reason you have stamina below 100, swap something out for a stamina item to get over 100, and you'll be fine.
RE: Holding Taunt
# Feb 20 2002 at 1:15 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah I've had those probelms sometime with my ls. But if you have alot of stamina items on it ain't too bad. got a full suit of crusty a centi ls and warhamer i like to use on my war ;)
Wha Wha What?
# Feb 14 2002 at 8:31 AM Rating: Decent
You know I find it odd how a Centi SS is still lore but a Centi LS isn't. I mean the centi ss does lesser dmg, lesser dly and lesser stats but why would that be lore over a centi ls? We hell all for the better for those that have one!

And you know it is true to say that everybody and thier grandmother has a centi ls or at least 1 other centi weapon. Can we say "deep saturation in the market"? Heck the centi weapons are real nice but to see every other person wielding this sword kind of get repetitive and you would almost want to see the looks of another weapon :P I personally think that the noctivant blade looks way better than a centi ls.

Dual wielding
# Feb 12 2002 at 10:57 PM Rating: Decent
Why anyone would want to dual wield centi LS's anyway I'll never know. They're too slow IMO for primary, my combo of Sword of Skyfire primary and Centi LS works really great, of course the SoS will have to go once I hit 42, but that's still 10 levels away. A ranger dualing centi ls's REALLY doesn't make sense to me, since rangers have less ac and hp than warriors, meaning they need to hit faster and hit more :-P

Well that opinion works well for soloing or when your group can't come up with a proper tank to melee in the rangers place, but when in groups it is generaly a good idea to have weapons with a slower delay as it means fewer attacks and fewer attacks mean less aggro and less agro means the ranger might actually live till the end of the fight. Now if you were a warrior or an SK being the primary tank it would be advisable to have a faster weapon that swings more often as it means more agro. I have heard people say that is about damage to number of hits, and honostly i can't argue with them because i can't prove that isn't the case. but from personal experiance it seems that the fellow with the faster weapon seems to generaly do better with keeping agro.

well that's it for my opinion, hope you rate it well.

now for you flamers out there do your worst, i dare ya, and make sure it isn't some rant about my gramar or my improper use of words.

I dual these and hold taunt fine...I also have chitin wraps though...without haste they are a little slow.very nice damage at 189 str I hit for a max of 51 with them.I average around 30-40.The drop rate on these has been lowered quite a bit since nerf....I see a lot of shouts for Centi LS in EC that are not Lore....I think the price of the non lore ones will go up substantially in a few months when the market is flooded with lore Centis.

RE: Centi vs. Blackend Alloy - NOT LORE as of 2-6-02!
# Feb 06 2002 at 12:21 PM Rating: Decent
Well, it does four points more damage, in two tenths of a second less time, so, that's much better. If you have a chance of getting a couple, go for it.

I upgraded from Blackened Alloy Longsword and Icetooths to Icepaw War Claw and Stormfeather Tallons. I'll be upgrading to two of these when I see a decent price. I've seen them going for as low as 400pp. I wish I had known what they were at the time....

I saw a 20th level Bard, in my group last night, weilding two at a time, so, I guess you could say, they are NOT Lore. =)

The bard was weilding what you would call "pre-nerf" swords. Meaning that those dropped before the change was implemented. LS's that drop now are lore. So if you wanna dual weild these, you gotta buy a pre-nerf, and of course, prices are already beggining to rise =\.

Lore now?
# Feb 05 2002 at 1:13 AM Rating: Decent
Hmmm...I've got two of these on my ranger at the moment, but I haven't logged on in the last couple weeks (girlfriends take out of EQ time, PLAY > playing EQ heh). So yeah, um...I really hope this isn't one of those retroactive changes that screws over the old swords too. I don't think they would have made them LORE without either a warning or a PENDING LORE tag first, so I assume it's just new ones. I'll confirm this tomorrow.
RE: Lore now?
# Feb 05 2002 at 10:20 AM Rating: Decent
I think its only for the new drops, not retroactive. I have not yet checked my warrior, but I never wanted 2 of them anyway...

Alright everybody on Bertoxxulous. As of now, the Centi LS's are selling at a norm of 2k in EC. Tonight, i waited 4.5 hours with my bard selling cougar claw earrings and odds/ends before i found a person tired enough and nice enough to sell for 1k each. I only had enough cash for 1. Of course it took it. Now at level 35, with personal haste, i hit very fast with this in main and guardian sword(8?maybe9/24)in offhand. I wanted to know whether it is better for myself to wield the Guardian sword in the primary slot and the LS in the offhand, or the opposite? I am not too worried about aggro since i usually dont group anyways, but which is better for avoding agro and or doing loads of dmg?

Thanks.

In regards to this, it usualy is better to wield the faster weapon in off hand. reason behind this, is because each round dual wield is checked, if a successful roll is made the offhand weapon must be ready to wield. if you have a weapon that is slower than your primary in off hand, there is a very good chance you will not dual wield. therefore keep your faster weapon in the second hand to increase the chances of dual.
RE: Sweet!
# Feb 01 2002 at 5:16 PM Rating: Decent
I'm sorry but this is not true and is easy to prove. Main hand and secondary hand are independent of each other. They can swing as soon as the weapon timer is up. Just get a really slow 1 hander and a fast 1 hander. Lets say a slow 1hs and a fast pierce. You will see that the secondary weapon can actually swing twice between main hand swings (not counting double attack obviously). Generally, you want your faster weapon in your main hand because of the damange bonus that your main hand receives as you level up.
RE: Sweet!
# Feb 02 2002 at 6:47 PM Rating: Decent
I have read similar messeges in other forums, but those messeges also said that the secondary weapon doesn't becom independent of the primary until you get into your thirties or something. not positive though so if someone could maybe flame me on being wrong or right it would be appreciated.

remember all the nose knows.
RE: Sweet!
# Feb 08 2002 at 10:06 AM Rating: Decent
Dual wield skill must be 200 before your hands operate independently. lvl 39 is EARLIEST this happens. 39*5=195+5=200 skill attainable.
RE: Sweet!
# Mar 19 2002 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
faster delay should always be in primary unless you are a rogue(for the backstabs of course). this is how it works, i would like to clarify it for everyone. Primary hand attacks, then checks dual wield. your secondary delay has no significance. the chances of your secondary attacking are only based on your skill level of dual wield. after the secondary attacks it checks for double attack, so your primary attacks again, which gives you another opportunity to dual wield again. that's why when it only looks like some mobs hit you once but they really hit you 2, 3, or 4 times. dual wield and double attack are just random occurences, higher skill, more chance you have of doing it obviously. that's all i have to say, i'm sure i'll get some response from someone calling me a moron, or a newb or some garbage, but that's the truth.
Why delay over ratio?
# Jan 29 2002 at 4:09 AM Rating: Decent
I'm still not getting why it would be best to have a Lammy in primary and a CLS in off-hand as opposed to just CLS in both. I mean sure, the Lammy is faster, = more hits...but also with less damage per hit, right? And since the CLS has the better ratio, doesn't that mean that, while you don't HIT as often, you do more damage per hit?

Correct me if my math or logic is wrong, I know I'm missing SOMETHING out there that's important :)

Clue me in?
RE: Why delay over ratio?
# Jan 29 2002 at 5:03 AM Rating: Good
The thing you are missing is the damage bonus, and if you are a tank, you are also missing the taunt factor.

Damage bonus is added to each hit, and is independant of the weapon (but level dependant).

With a damage bonus of 8 (like the screenshot), and assuming (not sure the axcact formulas) a weapon does damage*1.5 on average (before the damage bonus), the lammy does (1.5*9+8)/19 = 21.5/19 = 1.13, while the CLS does (1.5*14+8)/27 = 29/27 = 1.07. In general the higher level you get, the more important the dmage bonus becomes.

In addition, given teh same damage, a faster weapon taunts a lot more. So if you want to keep agro, you need a fast weapon. Rangers and bards might on the other hand might favor slow weapons.

Hope that clears things up a bit.

I agree with you 100% that the faster weapon would taunt more and do more damage in the long run by allowing more times that the damage modifier would be applied. But (There's always a but) the formula you give (Specifically the damage bonus numbers) should take into account that the lower delay weapon would have a lower damage bonus as well shouldn't it?
Only making the point in the interest of accuracy.

# Feb 03 2002 at 8:58 PM Rating: Decent
Damage bonus on 1h weapons is only based on your level...so no, the delay of a weapon will not change the bonus. Low delay in primary is the best way for a warrior, so a Lammy is a better choice.
Most 2h weapons show a higher damage bonus...this was the change Verant made with damage bonuses. A level 60 warrior will show all weapons as having a minimum of 11 in damge bonus...a level 1 warrior could hold the same weapon and would see no damage bonus.
When you see people quoting damage bonuses on weapons they are selling...be sure to ask them what level they are ;)

They are prolly referring to finding one of these for sale at a vendor, where someone who looted this sold it. They were quite common drops in Maiden's Eye when SoL first came out, so those lucky enough to have gotten one of these through a vendor should count their blessings, they were pretty lucky. With the recent nerf to the drop rate, expect to see these in a vendor's inventory even less than the rare times before. Only real philanthropists would do such a thing now!
