people are always selling this thing cheap because it such a common drop. That doesn't take away from it's usefulness, however, and it is usually worthwhile having. I paid 20 in Bazaar for one for my warrior on T-P server but a few days ago my druid (can't equip, I know) bought one on Karana server from a merchant for less than 8PP!! I couldn't believe it. So now I have something to give to one of my plate wearing alts.

I agree, this item is usefull. I bought this for my warrior and will use it for quite some time. On the rodcet knife, it was going for 10pp in the bazaar.

i got rid of it inbertween 20 to 24 (cant remember) and used it since about lvl 15ish, and i have to say its a great BP, it very cheap, average price being on AB server 20 to 60pp, but a weeek or so ago i came along a traqder in bazaar selling one for 1pp, i had already sold m,y old 1 for 60pp so i bought it anyway, got it in my bank to sell or do whatever with.
How cheap?
# Sep 21 2002 at 1:39 AM Rating: Decent
Last night on my druid (Yes, I know druids can't use it), I saw this on a merchant in the Emerald Warriors guildhouse, in Kelethin. The price? 5 plat and some change. I thought I was seeing things.

Aye hon -- if the mob is up as I am running past I will often bonk him to pass the item to some worthy youngster in the hall. It makes a wonderful little gift to young players, especially all those nakeed barbarians running around the greater Halas area.

The bazaar has certainly driven the price down on a lot of items. Personally I would rather give this item away than wait for the young person to count 5pp worth of copper coins :-)

on FV these sell for 20 to 100pp. i bought mine for 10pp. seller was glad to get rid of it. bazaar sucks big time. i might leave EQ only because of bazaar. selling used to be fun and profitable before. now NOTHING is worth hunting for it. kill stuff with FS or bronye and sell it. go to bazaar. get it in a quarter of the time at 30 levels before zou should.

I feel very lucky. I've only been playing EQ for about two weeks, and when my human cleric was level 6, hunting in the Qeynos Hills, some high lvl High Elf gave me this item. When I activate anon, and people see me, I get lots of invites from people who should know better. But, it has gotten me into one or two groups. I feel special.

On those decisions I think it would depend how you play your warrior. See https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/classes.html?class=1

It he/she a killer? Or just a meat shield? I find that there are other classes who are more effective at damaging the mob, so my barbie warrior (while doing as much damage as possible) tends to be there to TAKE damage for the other folks in the group. Therefore I've concentrated more on AC and less on STR in my items.

If it were me.... I'd sell off both items that add mana and look for something with good AC, HP, and STR... all in one package.

I have this on my female barbie warrior and my female human bard. The look is much more ornate on my barbie. But his thing is definately the Wonderbra of EQ; as well-endowed as Northian females are, I swear this adds at least a cup size. My barbie looks so well-endowed I'm amazed she doesn't fall over!

I bought one of these a few weeks ago from an NPC merchant in the "short and stout" section of Shadow Haven.

For less than 6pp.

For those of you who're selling this and complaining that you can't get more than 150pp for it.....get real.

Well that doesn't mean its only worth 6pp. A few weeks ago I bought a Centi shortsword from a vendor for 6pp. Merchant prices don't mean anything.

At 20 AC, this is a nice piece for anyone that can wear plate-class armor. It's lighter weight than bronze, and you get the strength and fire stats. The color is almost identical to bronze on my human paladin; it's just a slight shade different.

The swarm leaders pop fairly often. I've been present for three swarm leaders and all three dropped this chitin. As a testament to the high drop rate, most of the people I fight with in Netherbian Lair already have one. I wouldn't be surprised if they nerf the drop rate some time soon.

I have it on my Dwarven Pally. If you know what Dwarven Plate armors look like its a bronze in the stomach guard and in the crest on the chest area with a tan color for the rest. I'm wearing it with a lot of Bronze armor and it looks pretty good.

RE: Color?
# Apr 24 2002 at 5:27 PM Rating: Decent

Bleh. My halfling cleric uses it and it makes me look like I'm wearing Brown Chitin protector. Everyone asks me for sow.

Other than that it's pretty good.
RE: Color?
# Mar 18 2002 at 9:57 PM Rating: Decent
Not EXACTLY sure, but iv seen wood elfs with it a tanish color, and halflings almost orange, so it may depend

RE: Color?
# Nov 22 2002 at 2:12 PM Rating: Decent
nah, its a gold colour, maybe a slight bit of tan type whate er in it, but i'd class it as a sort of crappy gold colour....hmmmm trying to think of a way to explain it, otherdude it right it dose look like a bown chitin protector, oooo wait i got it, a gold that isnt shiny =/
hmmmmm maybe i should leave it...
Gold, not Bronze
# Apr 10 2003 at 3:09 PM Rating: Decent
The color is in between bronze and DW (gold) armor. On my Dwarf paladin it is a little more orange than the deepwater, so he looks like he's wearing full DW armor. It does NOT get mistaken for bronze, it ain't that orange.

I just looked at the stats and I noticed something. This is just like my Ro Breastplate, only it's not Paladin only! I'm not complaining, this sort of thing happens when expansions come out. So for that Paladin that just feels it's too much trouble to get your Ro Breastplate here's an alternative that has the (almost) exact same stats and is no where near as hard to get, amazing!

EDIT: If I would have read down some I would have seen this information has already been posted, sorry!

It looks like gold/light brownish platemail.

I got one of these as part payment for a rez (the rezzee was in Netherbian killing the swarmcaller and got 2 chitins to drop). I was tempted to keep it purely for looks (well, looks and AC since I started soloing again) because I hate walking around in a purple muumuu...er, make that Crystal Covered Shroud. But I desperately need Wisdom, so this went to my twink kitty bard.

Got one of these today when a 51 pathfinder was going to let it rot. For her generosity I gave her a moss mask I got in Guk a while before. Think she was happy since she was going to the grey. Anyway, then went to EC to sell this and a few other things. Took several hours to sell and only got 150pp for it. What was really bad is that I saw 8 other unlucky ppl like me out there with the same thing trying to sell it. Very hard to sell as the volume is getting pretty high. If you are getting one for yourself or a twink, then go for it, but farming this item may be a bad idea as it takes a long time to sell.

RE: WTF? Bard?
# Feb 24 2002 at 7:57 AM Rating: Decent
Prolly cuz it's plate based, not chain. Rogues can't wear plate.
RE: WTF? Bard?
# Feb 24 2002 at 8:46 AM Rating: Decent
Don't hold water. Iksars can not wear plate but they can wear this. No idea why rogues were not allowed to wear this.
RE: WTF? Bard?
# Feb 25 2002 at 1:01 PM Rating: Decent
There are a few plate items that Iksars can use, because of the ALL Race tag. And besides.. Rogues can't use it because they aren't on the list of useable classes. :)
nerf it,,cant believe im saying that
# Feb 23 2002 at 2:53 PM Rating: Decent
all i can say is VERANT PLEASE NERF THIS...at least make it rare..sorry this guy is way to easy a kill and in a high traffic area..a bp with ac like this and low but decent stats going to ruin the market for those people out there who like to merchant play..i kill the swarmleader at least 4 times a day if not more while playing my beastlord and let bp rot or someone loots..its a shame..tried to sell one myself one day..couldnt get no more than 150 for it because it was so common and other people couldnt sell thier stuff that was of same stats because everyone owned one of these//sigh sigh sigh
RE: nerf it,,cant believe im saying that
# Mar 12 2002 at 11:21 AM Rating: Good
Much as I hate to say it, I have to agree. Not with nerfing it, because the stats aren't really all that ridiculous. Fine Plate is AC 19, and characters in the mid-20's can certainly afford to buy that, so this is reasonable for the level.

What I do think is excessive is the drop rate. The leader spawns seemingly every 15 minutes, and as far as I've seen, ALWAYS drops this breastplate. Twice I've been in full groups, and within 2 hours, everyone is carrying one of these. Since I can't sell it for anything resembling decent coin, the only smart thing to do with it is to give it to any of my other characters that can wear it.

So far, I've given one to my lvl 24 paladin and my lvl 20 cleric. I've got a third that's going to my daughter's lvl 8 cleric, for pete's sake. At the rate things are going, between the two of us, we'll have six characters wearing this BP in less than two weeks play. In a couple more months, this will be bare-minimum equipment for any plate-wearing char whose owner has Luclin.

Seriously, this drop should be a rarity... either that, or the Swarm Leader should only spawn every few days at most.

Kitkoran's right on the money: Any smith holding a fine steel BP in his inventory has no chance of selling it for anything close to cost now. I know, I know, cry me a river. But i'm one of those folks that think there should be more to the game than just hack and slash. Building trade skills should be economically viable. Not to the point of getting rich, but some profit should be possible for folks that would like to pursue a merchant character rather than an adventurer. Equipment this good that drops that often are just more nails in the trade skills coffin.

Just a thought.

Agree that this new Luclin stuff is killing the smithing market. They made tailoring much more viable with luclin, but now smithing is lame. Unless you are a dwarf, even the cultural is weak compared to the dropped quested stuff. I finally have my smithing high enough to make some cultural (human), and I can buy better armor for less than it would cost to chase down the components for my cultural (Mithaniel Marr imbued). Soon Smithing is gonna be as big a waste of time as begging.

Check those Merchants
# Jan 25 2002 at 11:45 AM Rating: Decent
I found this in the inn where the bard trainer hangs out. My charisma is pretty crummy (hey, I'm a Dwarf Warrior! Who needs all that namby pamby friendly stuff?), so I paid 7pp for it, but what the heck? It has 4 more AC than the charred guardian I have, and less agi and no stamina plusses. But it weighs less than the CG, and that was on loan from a friend anyway. So this is VERY nice for my level, and was cheap. Never overlook the merchies.

Holy ****! An item of this quality sold by a merchant for 7p!? There's something seriously wrong here. Heck, I just bought this thing off a fellow player on Firiona Vie for 50pp, and I think I paid WAY too little given the difficulty of obtaining comparable gear. I mean, I'm lvl 19, and I could wear this thing for another 20-25 levels eays! And as a paladin, it's a bit disconcerting that something I randomly pay 50pp for is as good as my lvl 30+ quest armor, which itself is notoriously tough to get compared to other quest armor.

On the one hand, it's great to have (insane AC for my level, very light weight, and stats to boot!). On the other hand, what am I going to look forward to in the foreseeable future? This thing needs to be a much more rare drop.
Drops of a Netherbian Swarm Leader
# Jan 15 2002 at 11:04 PM Rating: Decent
I got this off a Netherbian Swarm Leader. He was blue to my 31 necro. I soloed him without much trouble. He seemed to have a good amount of HP but didn't hit terribly hard. I hunted here for about three hours on two seperate occassions. I only saw this guy once in one of the tunnels not far from the main room with the columns. He may or may not be a rare spawn.
RE: Drops of a Netherbian Swarm Leader
# Feb 19 2002 at 3:20 PM Rating: Decent
When I first arrived at the Netherbian layer at 24 I got in a group and within 5 minutes we killed a leader and I got this. Then about 15 minutes later we got another one. However, I am no level 30 and have run through these tunnels (with small breaks at Marus Seru) for 6 levels and I have yet to run into one again. I have been in groups that have nearly cleared every netherb in the tunnels and not had it spawn. I think that one of the netherbs is a place holder for it and that it spawns once it's been removed and maybe does so randomly. However, I have only seen it pulled from the netherb portion of the tunnels that is furthest from the pillar. My guess is it pops somewhere close to the Trogloks. Just a guess though.

My strength-challenged, depressed ERU SK just about soiled her leather leggings when she saw this for sale at a vendor for 6pp. Having trouble finding decent armor that does not weigh me down -- had gone to the Bazaar to find some lightweight Spore Covered pieces whehn this nice number showed up in a merchant's inventory. Needless to say, she's poorer but happier.

Shopping can be fun.
