Have killed about 10-15 "a sonic warwolf" at the zone line to Acrylia Caverns and this has dropped 3 times. Noone around to scarf them up either ... so the wrot monster took them.

There are 2 warwolfs that spawn near the zone line to Acrylia Caverns. Lvl 58 druid was able to single pull the warwolfs without the grimlings catching agro. Con'd Light Blue. Not very hard at all.

There isn't any sonic warwolf as far as i know in grimling forest.
Anyway , i got this earring off a Sonic BattleHound. And i've been soloing them and i'm level 42. Not difficult. But watch out for adds.
Seems Sonic battlehound , Grimling Skullcrusher and A Ownbear fleshrender roams around the same location. They are just north of the Val Shir outpost. About 400m north.

There are war wolves that also wander the zone, the war wolves are still blue to me at 54 so they're probably around level 40 - 45, drop fairly easy as long as no wandering adds roam by.
Not that hard to kill
# Jul 02 2002 at 5:07 AM Rating: Decent
umm..if you had a party of5..3 of which were over 50 and this was a tough mob to kill, you were doing something wrong. I just killed the battlehound solo and had 40 mana and 3 bubs of hp left. Sold for a nice 1.2k.

Hmm... Eactly how did you sell a NO DROP item for 1.2K?

Hopefully a typing error.

Sonic Manglers
# May 01 2002 at 5:26 PM Rating: Excellent
The earrings drop off Sonic Manglers just north of the outpost kinda rare drop PH's are grimling recruits. also helps to kill the Owlbears roaming the area as they sometimes drop feather ring. No need to roam around for sonic manglers they are confined to the area if they walk out so far they are respawned instantly to the opposite side of spawn area and restart there journey.
RE: Sonic Manglers
# Sep 11 2003 at 3:53 AM Rating: Decent
Coming from the outpost, cross the bridge, turn right, and face: A Sonic Stalker, being the easy version of the Mangler. Kill that one first to warm up.

A few steps away is the Sonic Mangler. I think both are static spawns, so no roaming at all. Kill him as well, and be lucky...

In your 40s, the earring is a delight, and as it's no drop, it is not one of those Bazaar trash items!

Took 6 mangler kills to get 1, with many owlbear and grimlings in between.

Sonic wolves Vary per zone. HSM they can be rooted, snared feared etc.. GF the can only be feared, and TM the can only be snared or rooted. Hope this helps my fellow druids in their quest for this item.

I've been in Grimling all morning taking out these guys, and they CAN be snared AND rooted. They just resist very well. They resist about 1 out of every 10 casts or so. But i've both rooted and snared manglers, stalkers, and the named Sonus in Grimling Forest.
I got 5 pair of these...
# Mar 28 2002 at 8:04 PM Rating: Decent
Greetings,
I took my Cleric and Ranger (both mid-level - near 40ish), along with 3 other toons that I wanted to equip with these earrings and headed over to the Grimling Forest. I was there for several days leveling up on the sonic howlers, owl bears and grimling recruits. In that time, ten of these dropped and the mobs began to turn light blue anyways. The sonic howlers have to be "tanked" since they cannot be snared. These earrings are good for almost any class, I equipped an Enchanter, Druid, Cleric, Bard and Wizard with these. If they weren't no-drop, they would sell for a lot.

Yikes!
I hope they didn't nerf it. I only got maybe 2 a day (1 per 4 hours or so) and I killed every Sonic Howler that spawned. It is VERY slow getting these but it can be done with some patience. I was camped near the bank out-post, just around the corner from it actually. Every once in a while you will also get a "perfect owkbear pelt". This is for the Rallic pack quest so you want to get as many of these as you can too. By the way, I did NOT kill any battlehounds! As far as I know, they don't drop the earring, only the Sonic Howlers do. I hope this helps, I do not know if they nerfed the drop rate since I got these. Cheers~

Dont know anything about nerfing in this sone, cause I've been hunting here just during the last 2 weeks.
Mangler does indeed drop claw. Dropped one yesterday. To give an indication on drop rate, I think I got 2 claws and 2 rings (owlbear) in some 5 hours or so.
I think the drop rate is not to bad, and beeing on Rallos Zek - No drop are very nice! And they are not lore, so you can have 2 of them!

Just kill all wandering mobs in area where sonic manglers spawn. Seems there are 2 spawns. Spawnrate is fast. Spawn can either be sonic manglers, Owlbears (dont remeber type, razor...) or grimling recruits. Grimlings may on occations drop weapons (stats approx like fine steel).

one dropped after a few hours of camping north of the outpost where owlbear razorbacks, grimling recruits, and sonic manglers spawn. Wasn't even expecting it, thought it might be a rare drop, then a second dropped on the next kill. Nice item for my sk. Was able to solo mobs at lvl 37.

CAUTION!
# Jan 09 2002 at 1:57 PM Rating: Decent
Be careful when fighting these.

I have a 56 Druid, and planned on soloing the Battlehounds for a few hours and getting myself this earring. In the past I had camped these Sonic Wolves when Luclin had just some out with little trouble, so I had expected this to be easy.

WELL! I went to camp them last night, took Form of the Howler, and pulled a light blue Sonic Battlewolf. I found out the hard way.....they must have changed the ability to root those now. I pulled with Ensnare, and the mob resisted. I tried to root and got that lovely message "This NPC cannot be affected by spells that change its run speed". For those that have not camped these before....Sonic Wolves run as fast as Form of the Howler, which is faster than sow. I took off running to see if I could gain some distance and gate, as this guy hits for 80 (with 730 AC on a 56 druid). I took off running, and he kept up for a little while, and I began jumping to gain distance, eventually I gained enough distance to cast, and another wolf jumped me...needless to say, I took a exp death, and even more unfortunately, there were no clerics available for a rez.

If you plan to camp these, be sure to bring a tank and healer type to ensure you both survive, as it will be tough for a druid to solo, and impossible to out run.

PS. If any druids have some good tactics on how to fight these without snare/root/dot, please post, I thought about charming a hound and fighting the other (im not sure they are charmable), but I just dont want to take another EXP death until I have regained the EXP I have already lost.

Happy Hunting!

If they couldn't be snared / rooted before, they can be now. Been hunting them solo all morning (see my other post here). They have high resistance to snare and root, but I get it to stick most of the time. My tactic has been: Root, Snare, Wrath of Nature, Winged Death, Breath of Ro, sit and watch em rot, re-cast root when it breaks (and it will usually break at least once per battle). That will kill every one of em (just one casting of all 3 dots is enough). I'm only level 54, so if I can get my root/snare to stick on em, I would think you can too at level 56. Go back and give it another try! Hope you get the earrings! (Hehe, hope I get em, too, they haven't dropped yet. /sigh)

Howdy,
You can try and tank them with thorns and chloro up. Pull them with a heavy DoT. They are only around level 30ish.

I got this on Tribunal server on Saturday off of a sonic battlehound. You can tell if its the one that has it because it has more hps than the regular battlehounds, nearly killed me at lev 49 as a druid. I hear the warwolves drop a nice melee earring and I've never seen anything drop off manglers. Your best bet is to kill battlehounds whenever you see them up.
Still NOT HARD TO GET
# Dec 16 2001 at 6:04 PM Rating: Decent
As far as i can tell this has NOT been nerfed.. i still fight in the field near the Outpost.. turn right from outpost and follow wall to fight near the gremling camp. I have been grouping here since Luclin came out and still see them drop at about the same rate.. the sonic *whatever* pop in waves.. you'll see about 5 or 6 then none for about 30 mins. usually one of the 5 or 6 will drop this earring(no drop). not nerfed still easy and still descent exp for a small group in their mid 30s. nice earring for a caster so dont listen to those who didn't see one drop in 20 mins and left

Thanks for the info, lastgen.

I went back to Grimling Forrest and hunted at the location you suggested. I have discovered that there are two mobs that spawn in that location. Each mob has three random place holders. In this part of the zone, they are a Grimling Recruit, a Owlbear Razorback, and a Sonic Mangler. These are all green to my 51 necromancer. When one mob is killed, another spawns instantly. The mobs do not roam around very far and are easy to locate.

This time, I looted every Owlbear and Sonic. The result was that in about two hours, I had two Feather Rings from the Owlbears and three Giant Wolf Fangs (1h piercing weapon) from the Sonics. I still have not found a single Claw earring after killing about a dozen Sonics. I will continue hunting here for a few more days until I am certain they are not dropping on my server.

My results are very different from lastgen's. Sonics did not come in waves. They seemed to spawn randomly as the other PHs die. lastgen did not mention finding any Giant Wolf Fangs yet find they seem to appear at about the same rate as lastgen's Claw earrings. Does this mean that my server is different? Could it be that on Rallos Zek Claws are extremely rare or do not drop at all because nodrop is far more valuable there? Perhaps I have just had a very bad streak of luck.

The one fact that gives me hope is that I found two Feather Rings. Feather Rings have similar stats to the Claw earrings and are also nodrop and not lore. I hunted all day on Saturday without finding any of these so perhaps I just need to keep hunting until my Claw drops. If I get lucky, I will post a follow up message here.

It appears that Verant has fixed the problem on Rallos Zek. I played for about two hours last night and this morning and had two Claw of the Sonic Howler earrings drop from the Sonic Manglers. I hunted in the same area as before and nothing else seemed to change.

So, if you are looking for two of these fine NoDrop earrings, head to Grimling Forrest and hunt Sonic Manglers for a couple of hours and you should be in luck.

Spent all day tracking and killing all sonic mobs in Grimling on Tholuxe Paells. None dropped the earring. Sonics were on the hard side for my partner and I, both level 40 - me a ranger him a wizard. We were the only people in the zone tho. That part was nice :)

Spent all day in Grimling Forrest hunting sonics. There were no drops at all. My guess is that there was a bug in the drop tables causing all sonics to drop this claw instead of a regular sonic claw which is some sort of stackable component. Until someone gets lucky and finds out which mob now drops this item, don't waste your time on this zone.

My group:35 Shaman(me) 35 ranger and a 35 monk.. we fought here and i saw 4 of these in two hours, and that was with alot of downtime.. they drop off of sonic *whatever* ie howler mangler. any sonic *whatever* can drop these.. we had alot of downtime and still got 4 so they aren't that rare. They wont effect the market for CC and orc fang because these are geared toward casters (great for ench shammys wizzys and druids clerics ect..) but who would pay 3-500 plat for a forest loop when you can get these for free. **tip.. from kitty fort follow right wall and fight there.. you can always run back to the guards and the zone is close. good exp for mid 30's but not the fastest in the world

I wouldn't use this in leu of CC earrings. Why take the loss in dex and 1 ac to pick up wis int cha and some pr. All that is nice..but it's not helping me do dmg, or take dmg. Just my opinion..but I'll stick with good old trusty ac every time.
Umm No

This Item would ofcourse change the market value of the cougar claw earing and the orc fang earing IF it were droppable. BUT it is ofcourse no-drop therefore it will Not change the market value of the fore mentioned earings.

RE: Umm No
# Dec 06 2001 at 5:52 PM Rating: Decent
Well, I think they probably would change the market value somewhat. It IS no drop, but there ARE going to be people getting these that will replace CC earrings, thus increasing the supply of CC earrings and lowering the demand of CC earrings. Supply increases, demand lowers, cost goes down, simple law of economics.

But, it won't affect the price MUCH though, maybe 5, 10pp because I don't imagine these are dirt common or anything.

I don't think the price of other Tradable items will change too much. This item is marked as "No Drop" So it can't be farmed in the typical fashion. Someone has to be there to loot it.

I don't know what mob you guys saw that cons blue to a 30. But it wasn't this one because it was a blue con to the 52's in our group. This thing had a ton of hitpoints. It was a tough mob for us to bring down with a 47 Warrior, 56 Epic Monk, 52 Shadow Knight, and a 52 Ranger. This was most certainly not the one you saw.
