I spent quite a bit of cash on my shaman and never even considered a weapon for him(silly me)!

After a while of trying to haggle for a slime coated spear(i was near broke at the time) i found it hopeless and bought a crystal grinder(9 27 2 ac) for 100pp.

IMHO, I say this thing is worth not much more than 200pp(could get a better range item for less) and is not really great as a primary weapon. Mob it drops off of is not hard at all either.
I love this weapon

When I first got this weapon I had been trying to come across one for a while and had been doing anything in my power (for a lvl 8 at the time) to get this thing. When I finally got it I was almost disapointed by the hype I'd heard when it was less powerfull than the 1hblunt I had been using at the time. However, I was fairly new to the game and didn't yet appriciate the greatness of having a +3 wis range item. Now adays my barbarian has 150wis partly due to this little beauty, and though I use a jade prod now, I've still got my war spear in the range slot and its doing it job nicely. If you're questioning if its a great weapon? In my oppinion, not really... but is it a great range slot item? I've got two words... get one!

Any shaman who is still using an enamelled black mace should trade up, if you can, to the knobbed war club. Same damage, less delay, and a nice wis bonus. Compared to the ebon war spear, the 7 lower delay starts to become really significant. I stopped using my EBM when I picked up the KWC, and I've never looked back.
still good

at lvl 45 I still trade out my Slime Coated Harpoon for this in my range slot because of the Strength and Sv Magic.
--if you never had a Slime Coated Harpoon in your primary slot I highly suggest it. Nothing like high dmg and low delay with quickness to mow down mobs. Definitly a difference over the high delay maces we use alot.
good item

I use this item as weapon although people tell me to buy enamled black mace because of the 3 less dly and just use spear in throwing slot. I really dont care about 3 dly so i dont see wastin the pp. I recomend this to anyone good weapon and the +4str and +3wis really help out!

3 delay is huge! .5 damage per second (approx between this weapon and an EBM) may not sound like much, but believe me, it's a big difference.

Three delay may make a difference but for a shaman, nothin sais lovin like a spear in the mobs tummy. I would stick with the spear over the mace for one main reason; Epic. Our Shaman epic prize is a piercing weapon, its never too early to get started learning the skill but the longer you wait the harder it is to raise it.

Example of what I mean... I am currently a lvl 35 (sorry, 34 still getting that lvl back after a run in with a necro camp in WK but thats another story) On a normal lvling day I do alot of grouping in the Overthere with whoever wants my buffs and my puppy to help them out. I don't melee much at all in groups anymore and from what I hear, we shaman do it less and less later as our buffs get better and better, the time we spend medding in a battle gets longer and longer. So, the only time I really have to pratice piercing is when I solo. I don't know about any of you but I don't want to have to rely on getting my skill up from the start when I'm lvl 35 or 40. Someday I'll have that Spear of Fate and I'll be greatfull I spent so much time getting my skill to master on piercing when I was a young shaman.

Bottom line (litterally) I'd stick with the pircing over the blunt.
Not that tough

Soarin Brightfeather on Aviak island in OOT. Supposodly a hard 35. Not sure if he is a caster or not. Also heard one would have to kill many Aviaks for him to spawn.

He is a lvl 35 tank with roughly 1700 hp. He is easier than Kaladim residents or a specter.
