I got this beauty a couple weeks ago. How much does the avoidance really mitigate damage? I am guessing it means 10%, but was just wondering if anyone can confirm.

Avoidance doesn't mitigate at all, it means that you have an increased chance of the mob missing altogether. The parses that I have seen on The Steel Warrior seem to indicate that +10 avoidance is ~= to 1% more misses by the mob.

Right, Shielding is the percentage mitigation effect. 1% shielding as I understand it actually equals 1% less damage per hit. The shielding cap is 35% iirc.

Shielding works on only part of a MOB's total damage on you. Steel warriors talks about this a lot - but basically every MOB has 2 parts to their damage; a base amount and incremental damage above that. i.e.: a MOB might hit for 500 +(1-20)*100. The values for (1-20) are weighted according to a players AC vs. the MOBs ATK.

Shielding is applied to that base damage only. This means that shielding is noticably less useful for classes with lower armor values.
