Just nailed Tunare on The Nameless, and this weapon dropped. I just have to say BRAGGING RIGHTS RULE, you may all return to your seats now... LOL J/k

This is an awesome weapon, I learned a long time ago how not to pull agro off my Meat Shields, from Jolt pulling, Max Melee range, using DoTs instead of baby Nukes...
Needless to say, If you suck so bad as a ranger to pull agro off your meat shield it is not this weapon even at 50pts per tic. With Combat Fury, when your in a tight space where you cannot shoot your Bow, bust this puppy out and whip it good...

If your around the planes on The Nameless come inspect me and have a peek ~_~

testing

after further testing i found my statement to be wrong, i think that it might of been some sort of fluke or somthing. i find now that i dont get aggro all that much, sorry for the confusion
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 12 2003 at 8:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) after testing i fould i (56 ranger) could hold aggro over a 60+ war in group, mind u the war wasnt anything amazing, but in normal grouping u dont always have an uber war tank. to keep aggro down i had to use alot of jolt. i did find lastnight and this morning that a 60 uber pali could keep aggro off me rather well. so i think maybe in normal groups aggro managing will be hard unless war is uber or u have an sk or pali tanking (true masters of aggro when they try)
solo ranger
# Jan 11 2003 at 10:06 PM Rating: Default
i would have to agree this seems best suited for a ranger in a solo position. with the aggro this generates i think it would be hard in groups (by no means impossible) it could be controlled with a feww good cinder jolts. but still its hard to be tossing that off all the time. all and all i would have to say best for solo but still good for groups, when talking rangers, for other classes that cna use i think it would be hard for a rogue to keep aggro off with this proc (i know there are poisions that act like jolt, but most rogues i know arnt very good with poision and dont really try to master it). as for bard i dont know alot they probably do have a song to lower aggro and such i am just not aware. btw i just got this hair tongiht so i really need to test it out a bit. ill report back later once i have some more infro about dont/aggro and such
A wonderful weapon for the soloing ranger
# Sep 16 2002 at 4:44 PM Rating: Good
Aloha all and well met.

In the short time that I have used this weapon, coupled with my swifty, I have found it to be a wonderful weapon. It is not the best weapon ever created, but it is certainly one of the better ones that that can be won.

The damage ratio is lovely, and the proc is a wonderful additional tool to maintain aggro for camps that kill level 45-50 type mobs for exp groups where a real MA class, such as a warrior, Paly, SK is required.

In a MA group scenario, especially with an underequiped MA, however, the weapon does seem to create a bit more aggro than I would hope for -- Not as bad as Earth/Aggrocaller, but still noticable :-(

The stat modifiers in str, sta, agil, and wisdom, although not HUGE, do add 20 stat poiints in areas that us ranger types appreciate. The 50 hp and mana are bonus points that are icing on the cake.

Hence, I have found this weapon to be used best by the ranger in solo melee situations doing the AA exp grind, in areas where it is a bit more difficult to arrow kite, such as Velks lab.

As for a couple other questions listed on the forum page, I will take a smack at them.

A ranger is very useful in POG. A Tunare ranger who wishes to preserve his faction can still be in the exp group by "finding mobs" -- which is critically important if you want to kill Tunare. To help -- use your track sort distance feature and SOW your tank type partner. Have him "auto follow" you while you run to the closest mob on your track. He aggros mob and you both run back to camp, where your group kills the mob. Repeat 300 or so times and you will have cleared the zone. It will be benificail to change your hunting location from time to time as you thin out the mobs, or the pull times will be rather long. Basically, kill all the mobs in one area and then run along to the next area to clear.

Clearing the zone is important. Please note that when you aggro Tunare, she wll begin to summon all the remaining mobs in the zone (save the warm lights) to assist her in killing you. So you need to kill everything else in the zone first.

When killing Tunare, be wary of her knockback. There are several methods to getting around it, but will let you figure those out by yourself. Knockback is not fun :-( so mind your aggro. Hug your buddy and hold on is all I can say about that.

As for /q -- yeah it works, but for the most part, if you are in PoG and are not extreamly careful about using your uber ranger bufies (SoW, CoE, SoN CoP, etc ..) you will more than likely take a faction hit along the way. Remember 3 strikes and you are out, so Tunare rangers ought to complete their little helm quest before doing anything else in this zone.

There is some discussion on faction issues and completion of some epics. I have heard that you really ought to complete at least the first half of your epic prior to killing in this zone, as these faction hits can pose issues with certain people you will have to deal with. I am not privy to that knowledge, so I will let people with greater wisdom than I to comment on such things.

Hope this helps on your hunt

why would a ranger be fighting tunare ?
Well For one a worshiper of Karana would love to kill her for Not giveing them any Quests !
RE: why
# Aug 06 2002 at 11:07 PM Rating: Decent
Rangers and Druids dont usually fight in PoG. They are used for scouting and casting Harmony. Therefore they would still get to roll on loots because they are still helping. Also, they can fight Tunare and, if still alive, before she goes down they simply do a /q and then log back on after she is down and dont take the faction hit.

First off, its no drop so you cant really put a price on it, unless you are selling the looting rights which would never happen. Second, it doesnt really matter what level it procs at. By the time youre taking Tunare youre going to be probably around lvl 60...and i dont think it can proc higher then that, but who knows with Verant =P

# Nov 18 2001 at 10:28 PM Rating: Excellent
As a Bard, I would love to use this weapon. Although the WIS/INT/Mana aren't the most use to me, hit points are always a must ) and the strength wouldn't hurt. There are better weapons out there, but this would be nice to dual with the bard epic. Low delay, good damage, just my 2 rat furs worth.
RE: Bard here
# Apr 26 2002 at 4:00 PM Rating: Decent
This isnt an especially great bard wep it works much better for a ranger/rogue/warr ( warr being the last because we get much better weps) this is a high dmg low delay off-hand admitedly this wouldent be bad on a bard but would be lots more useful on a class with double attack or a 60 warr with triple attack. Bards have much better ToV weps I believe there is a 15/19 dagger and some 13/18 or something with 41% haste ( serrated dragon tooth or something it's a HoT quest). Personally I would recomend a rogue for this because they have not as many high dmg off-hands ranger has a nice set of epics and bard just does'nt need this wonderful wep.
RE: Bard here

i disagree about the rogue´s not having to many high off handers.. look at the Longsword of Freedom for example it has huge offhand dmg.. also good for warriors etc.

i think there are more better rogue weapons out there than warrior weapons for that fact.

I play a lvl 60 warrior on Zebuxoruk, i would LOVE this weapon, so dont talk about how its only good for low lvl 50 warriors, i know alot of warriors who would kill for this weapon *snicker*
I have 3 warriors friends who use

1/Winters Fury and Hsagra's Horn or something like that

2/ Frostbringer and Defiance

3/ Crescent Blades of Luclin and Scimmy of Emerald Dawn

I myself use a Seb Croaking Dirk and Frostbringer/Blade of the Green Dragon eye

This weapon beats them all.

second, alot of paladins use 1hs's for the ac bonus of a shield, and the ability to bash, many paladins Ive seen use Sarnak battleshield and Sword of morning, sometimes Jeldorin if theyve been lucky...

please....dont be stupid
A (relatively) unbiased analysis
# Nov 18 2001 at 2:58 AM Rating: Decent
OK, I have not ever gone to PoG or NToV, or many other uber places. I don't see this game as a competition against others to see if I can get the most uber items in the game before they do. So here is my unbiased (as much as possible) analysis of this weapon:

1hs means that most likely SK and Pally won't want it because they will have better 2hs. Since they can't dual wield, they get the 2hs stuff. So get down to RNG, BRD, ROG, WAR. WAR probably has better already, but may not depending on what level he went to PoG. If he's only level 50, this is still a post-epic quality weapon, I think, so would be very nice for a lower level planes-capable warrior. However, the 50 mana would be completely wasted on a warrior (or a rogue or bard). This weapon screams Ranger to me. But of course, this will make it very difficult to taunt off the ranger, so perhaps the warrior or rogue is the best place for it.

Frankly, if you ask me, just /random for it among those who can and will use it. :P

Mana not Useful to a Bard? Charm, 1 AE DD song and more importantly an AA called Fadding memories uses mana. Fading uses 800 mana. So i would say that the 50 mana on this would not be wasted on a Bard.

A 15/21 is a LOWER level weapon? Come on, Jaelen's is only 14/19, Tolan's is 15/21, primals, horn of hsagra, etc is 13/20. Claw of lightning has the best at 14/18, but sees less use than you'd think. A lot of main tanks will favor scepter/jaelens for high taunt, but this weapon is still a fine one.

The lack of AC and resists is not really a huge hit to anyone but the main tank. It is an extremely damaging weapon compared to most offhands available, and is a better mainhand save for scepter and a few ntov weapons.

That's a north ToV level item at best, and would be better found on Vyemm or Zlexak. For the effort and equipment level needed to kill Tunare, it's woefully inadequate. Magic resistance check means resisted all the time. Comparatively slow for warriors. Pal/SK have much better out there. Rangers have enough trouble avoiding agro, rogues peirce. Grats to an underequiped Bard on the raid I would assume.

Of course, this *is* an uber item to those unable to get it, but take into account those killing Tunare will also be north ToV and Sleepers old timers with a surplus of weapons. 200dot over 4 ticks with magic resistance check is pretty useless compared to 80pt unresistable lifetap, 288dd procs and the like

All melees get damage bonuses in their primary hand, and all melees get the same weapon damage bonuses (the Dmg Bonus you see on the weapon itself, there are other factors when calculating damage). The reason why you see the 11 is because the person viewing the weapon is level 58+ (60 in the SS shown).

The damage bonus listed is not the 2hs Damage bonus. Its level (and class) dependant, and has always been in place, this is just the first time you've been able to see it on the items right-click info. For instance, my Ranger has a +7 Damage bonus on all 1 handed weapons, be they a Rusty Longsword or a Lamentation. Considering the level required to take out Tunare, this is most likely sent in from a 55-60 char, who will have +11 to ALL one handed weps, again, be they Rusty weps or this. Just to clarify, it confused me at first, as well :P
RE: Damage Bonus...
# Nov 16 2001 at 7:55 PM Rating: Default
Damage bonus is (as far as I know) only for 2hs and 2hb weapons. Probably another Verant mess up on it being on some 1h weaps. Dmg Bonus is calculated by the str of the wielder, the delay of the weapon, and the 2hb or 2hs skill of the wielder, for each type of weap.

Hope that helps
RE: Damage Bonus...
# Nov 16 2001 at 8:24 PM Rating: Decent
Hey!!! I get to add to the pile of "maybe, if, maybe not".. hahahaha gotta love it. K, here's the deal.

All weapons have a damage bonus. Not innate to the weapon, innate to the characters level & skill level (or maybe just their level).

The damage bonus showing on a rusty weapon, or a baton of faith, is just that. Do not confuse yourself. At some unknown level the baton of faith showed a 5damage bonus, and some SK in my group had a mithril 2her that also shown 5dmg bonus. Now my monk is level 49 and the baton of faith has more damage bonus on it, 7, or something.. the point is, it changes. Because it is level and/or skill level dependant, it is NOT the recent upgrade with increases damage bonuses to 2 handed weapons.
RE: Damage Bonus...
# Nov 17 2001 at 12:35 AM Rating: Default
at level 41 you start seeing a damage Bonus.
at 41 it was 5
at 43 it went to 6
at 45 (i assume) it will be 7
at 47 i also assume) it will be 8
49 = 9
51 = 10
53 = 11
55 = 12
57 = 13
59 = 14...

the ones past level 43 are Just ussumtions as i am now only level 43 monk, and that Damage bonus shows up on every weapon i click, be it a Dagger(wich we cannot use) or a scimtar/whip/sword/ (insert any other type weapons a monk cant use) and they will all say the same damage bonus..

If you are one of these levels and have a Different damage bonus then what i have posted post here and let us know.

My 35 warrior sees a damage bonus too he started seeing them as soon at the first patch that showed the bonus on 2h weapons was done and that was at level 33 and its said that people as low as 25 can see the bonus
RE: Damage Bonus...
# Nov 17 2001 at 6:07 AM Rating: Decent
the damage bonus on 1h weapons is based on level and str and such when the weapon is used in the main hand, this is why at a higher level wurmslayer is not as good a weapon because the number of times you get the damage bonus is so greatly reduced, if you could put wurm in offhand it would be used by any high level character who wasnt solely trying to taunt, 2h weapons, in addition to this bonus get a bonus relative to the delay of the weapon

DMG bonus has NOTHING to do with strength...
for 1h weapons, it is based on the level of the wielder.
For 2h weapons, it is a combination of the level of the wielder AND a delay bonus IF the weapon is 41+ delay.

i know that a level 20 war should see the dmg bonus, this is when the dmg cap is lifted off and a warrior starts doing a lot more damage...
RE: Damage Bonus...
# Dec 10 2001 at 3:38 AM Rating: Decent
there's a difference between a dmg bonus and a dmg cap. a dmg cap means that you do less than the maximum potential (ie and only an example: out of 100 possible pnts dmg, if yer cap is 50, ye can do a max of 50) and that cap is raised at certain levels. (20 and 30 i beleive) this means at those lvls you can do more dmg, but still only up to the max dmg (100 in the example). it just looks like yer doing bonus dmg but yer not, yer just not being as gimped as ye were before (say doing 75 pnts max instead of 50 max.. looks higher, but it's still less than the max)

on the other hand a dmg bonus means that you get this dmg over and above the max dmg (side note: i don't beleive this raises minimum dmg cause i still get sucky 1dmg hits with a +7 dmg bonus). in the above example if you have a dmg Bonus of 10 ye'd do 110 dmg.

the reason this makes such an impac at higher lvls is cause with a low enough delay and fast enough weapon, yer dmg bonus tiems the number of yer hits ends up being more dmg than a slower weapon's high seeming dmg. got to borrow another war's lammi (he wanted to try my WS) and i noticed a hell of a difference. yeah, i would get nice 90+ pnt hits with WS **once in a while** but my avg hits were only slightly less with the lammi (35-45 avg with WS, 25-35 with lammi) but were striking twice as fast (ex: 10 hits at 45 would be 450 dmg, 20 hits at 30 is 600).

*hopes that made sense, i've a Hate raid hangover*

Damage bonus based on level for one hand weapons is as follows:
Every 3 levels after level 25 is +1 to the main hand damage bonus for one handed weapons.
lvl : bns.
28 = +1
31 = +2
34 = +3
37 = +4
40 = +5
43 = +6
46 = +7
49 = +8
52 = +9
55 = +10
58 = +11

Two handed weapons however work differently, and I can't remember where, but there is a guide to it on www.monklybusiness.com.... go check it out if you are more interested.

Kinda like movies, the more people that like something in America the more it sucks. There are however a lot of excellent microbrews here, just like there are a lot of great low-budget movies (Clerks for example). People from other countries only get exposed to the most popular and worst crap our country produces.

Imported beer looses it's taste some, that is why they do not taste as good as fresh. But American beer always tastes non- fresh if you ask me, and I have tasted hundereds of beers in their native countries. IMHO.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 16 2001 at 6:28 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Although I respect your opinion, Mounaineer, I would have to disagree. Although I love Irish Stouts and Porters (Guinness is the BEST beer fresh off draught... MAN I want one right now), and love German ales, some of the best beers I have ever had come from America. If you hit some smaller breweries like McMinnamen's in Oregon or Karl Strauss in San Diego, you might find some that are more to your liking. I do agree that many American beers are thinner than their European counterparts, but I don't see this as a bad thing necessarily... besides, they serve their beer warmer than we do, and I prefer mine cold. :-D
