I have found most items that people comment about are very subjective. There are many aplications for this cloak, and personally if I had it, I would use it to replace my current cloak permanently. First AC - AC is important for all players, perhaps more important than most know. AC is another check against how hard a MoB hits you. 10 AC on a cloak is excellent, not many around. Next is No Drop - No Drop may not seem like much to those that do not play on a PvP server, however it is VERY important on PVP loot servers. I play on Rallos Zek, no drop means unlootable resists (which is the most important aspect of PVP) Next is resists - resists just like I explained are parimountly important in PvP, this can determine if a Necromancer can take 1 Ice Comet or 2 while they regain Hit Points. In other words, the higher the resists you have, the better chance you have at not losing any of your gear, and getting a few nice pieces off the attacker. The point here is remember that just because items may not apply to every situation, each and every item has a use somewhere for someone
It may be true that resists are critical in the high level game, but I feel they are importent in certain circumstances at lower levels as well. The goblins in runneyeye, and highkeep basement cast a lot of spells, and resisting and taking only 30 damage is nice, instead of a full 60-90 pts on some spells. Also, the ability to fight evil eyes without worrying as much about charms is great. I have a set of magic resist gear for my cleric, and i'm only level 33 with him. Have an SSB, SBS, and several items with stats that are part of my usual setup. When solo fighting casters, I swap out the resist items (which also add ac), and find it works better than having a lot of mana and less resists. With my own buffs, I have near 100 magic resist. This allows me to solo Regis the reverent, for the quest items for the cleric bracer. Hit him with an enstill to root, and nuke the heck out of him. He nukes back, I resist, I win. If root breaks, I stun with holy might, and re-root. First time i tried this, I did not have the MR items, and got my rear handed to me on a plate. Now I can handle him with ease. Also, for my new characters, I usually start them in full splitpaw armor, since they spend so much time fighting spiders and snakes. resisting that darkweed snake poison is well worth the loss of a few ac. Mind you, I do also keep high ac pieces for times when I'm not fighting poison based mobs.
I'm wondering if the Realm of Hero's thing really means anything. The RoH NPCs say this whenever they get a coin, and the items given are "usually" random. However I did get a specific item when my SK received the Malevolent title. Would be cool if they are keeping a list of players deeds on each server, then if this Realm opens up that each server would have NPCs representing each hero and what he/she did to contribute.
* Not a bad cloak at all even if it didn't have nice stats ... *
Geez, this cloak is great! I would love to have one! My WIS is more then a slide over 200 and the 10 Sv All on this are awesome! Its a great cloak for all classes that are lvl 50+. For those of you that are below lvl 50, resistences are the most important stats when facing a high lvl mob!
luckily the AC is good on th is thing but dont preach to low levels about resists being most important on high lvl mobs.
we spend 95% of our time XPing so AC is most important to melee
the resists will help the 5% of the time they spend on raids
lol besides rock golems are 50-54 and they hit like a mutha! ... oh yeh ... ive never heard of anyone resisting summons, which is about the only magical thing they do.
most ppl that preach resists are most important and MEAN it are ppl who already have AC of 1100+ and they really aren't the ones to be talkin about gear to the avg. Joe who scrapes to get all he can to be effective.
Not true at all, I spend more time on raids at 56 than I do xping... and even while oding the xp run, MR can be critical (monks don't like shammy mob slows). I would take resists over AC any old day.
At level 59, I sure need my resist gear a lot more than 5% of my time. As a casual gamer playing EQ since release, I'm now at the point where I am wearing my resist gear over half the time I'm playing. Seems I spend a lot of my time doing anything but, exp grinding and I can keep my resists at +100 and maintain a 1,150 AC with no buffs. I assume other PC as myself are always looking for a more resists while maintaining as much AC as possible.
But, I am sure you won't be welcome in ToV without the proper resist gear. If you are not the main assist, I would say that resists is the most important gear you can have on. I've seen level 52 survive in ToV with the proper resists. An 8 hour camp in ToV is a lot more than 5% of the total time I get to play.
There is always a trade off, whether it be AC for resists, AC for HP or AC for effect, we all have to detirmine where to draw the line, no mater what level you are. Just look at the FBSS people wear, no AC, but everyone wants that 21% haste to hold that argo a little better.
Oh well, still a nice item if your character is in need of resists.
Newbs -- Read, contemplate, and realize only through experience you obtain, or from reading of experiences of others, will you be able to more accurately determine when you need what and why.
The guy that spouts off about resists being a joke, and how summons can't be resisted, yadda yadda is probably some dolt in a large guild who doesn't know spit and gets to come along because he's a guild member. Don't ever listen to a guy who is obviously single minded.
