The lowered CHA
# Jun 29 2002 at 4:15 PM Rating: Decent
I didn't know this was a GM Event item! Nice. Mine was given to me by a friend, Germania.

The stats are good except you have to take it off to buy/sell because of the -10 CHA. It'll make the prices a bit higher/lower and in some cases can determine whether you get 9gp 7cp or 1pp 5sp for something sold to a vendor. Not much but in my opinion it's worth it.

Just traded one of these for a mithril 2 hand sword. This sword sells for 1-2k on rodcet nife. The people saying this is only worth 100pp or such are not trying.

Stein of Moggok is better, but as SkinnedByPavement said, you can't carry two of the them.

As far as the Spirit Tome goes, this item is actually equal to, if not a little better than the Spirit Tome for non-enchanters. +5int and +10mana is about equal to the +6int on the Spirit Tome, and this has saves on it as well.

He's right?! I was about to contradict him, saying that there is no way +1 Int could be of lesser value as +10 Mana in terms of overall mana gain. Sure maybe for a low level twink this would be better. But before I stuck my foot in my mouth, and I went and tried 2 seperate mana calcs, just to see how much more mana +1 Int gives. Here is what I discovered...

At level 1 an extra +1 Int gives you no extra mana at all. In fact at level 48 +1 Int is only equal to +10 Mana! It's not until level 53 that +1 becomes better than +10 mana, and even then it's only +11 Mana! That means that this item, aside from the negative effects to Charisma, is indeed better than a Spirit Tome and remains so until you reach level 53.

Never actually bothered to check on this before, but it appears that INT raises are actually rather overrated, since at level 48 +30 Int is only equal to an extra 288 Mana. For my enchanter this means 1 charm and 1 fear spell, not much more...

Just thought I'd post my thoughts and discoveries on this, flame away...
#Anonymous, Posted: Nov 05 2001 at 12:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I mean...when will you ever use this book? You can even carry 2 Steins of Mogguk if you aren't using a weapon.
RE: Realistically...
# Nov 05 2001 at 2:34 PM Rating: Decent
You can't carry 2 steins, they're lore items.

i just got one of these for my wizard, strange that they're the only non-no drop item in the events. +5 int isn't shabby at all considering my offhand was AC 15 +25 hp's, and the resist rock, magic being the most important.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 04 2001 at 10:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I was trading this and sarvants cap (or polished stone anklet) for a spirit tome, send tell to psywalker or badwalker on test plz
Common drop

I look for the price of these to be relatively low, given that there were so many available during the event. I found 7 during the event -- had to leave four on the ground, sold two to make room to get more, and gave one to my alt. I look for it to be like the dwarven ringmail you get in CB --- a really nice item, but so many out there, the price is never really that high.

I'm guessing they will end up about 200 pp each.

# Nov 08 2001 at 2:32 PM Rating: Default
7 huh? left 4? can you clarify if this was all done by one player or multiple since the item is lore.

If you read his post, he said he found 7, left 4, SOLD 2 TO MAKE ROOM FOR MORE, and kept one. In other words, he looted one, sold it, looted another, sold it, and kept the last one. Seems very clear to me.

BTW, I saw over a dozen of these, on corpses I either killed myslef, or ran across decaying. I managed to pick up 3, with different characters. My main looted several, which I gave to guild members as I ran across them in the zone. You can loot more than one, as long as you got rid of the last one first.

This item is really being underestimated. Yes it dropped a lot during the event, but it will never drop again. Other items, such as Spirit Tome, drop every day. This tome is actually a lot better than the spirit tome though and I think it will be worth more after a few weeks.

This was one of the most common items I saw in EK during the event. Had 5 drop in an hour, off of nearly anything, from event mobs to large spiders. The reason some of you found this on already dead mobs, even though it is not no-drop, is because its lore. I had to shout out the last 3, because everyone in our group who wanted one, had one.
RE: Really common drop
# Nov 04 2001 at 3:53 PM Rating: Decent
they may be common but that didnt stop me from trading one for a hero bracer and another for a bracer of scavaging and and head slot with 20 hp 20 mana and some other stats.

if you got one and you cant use it get rid of it quick.

Nice, I hope I can do as well, my level 14 warrior would love to trade his for a hero bracer, or even a Crafted Brestplate. (BTW I'm on rodcet nife, and my e-mail is listed if you click on my name). I ended up with three of these on different characters by the time it was done, and my only Int caster is an enchanter :(, Think I'll trade his for something else, cause -10 charisma stinks for chanter. They kind of got the shaft on this.

Update: I did even better than I had hoped. I traded one for a spider fur cloak, which goes for 1.5k on my server.

I got one in EK just yesterday and figured out that this little book is better than a Spirit Tome for pure casters! It has +5 int +10 mana and the Spirit Tome has +6 int.....same thing! Plus the Tome of Unseen Darkness helps with other stats also! I'm gonna hold on to mine forever just to be unique :-)

Maybe better for all but chanter, but -10 charisma is a big hit for a mid level chanter, without too much gear to overcome it.

I got one but I'm keeping my Black Tome with Silver Runes. 4 int 30 mana works out to be more mana overall at higher levels and my int is already over 200. If I was desperate for saves I'd swap it in

I got one in EK event was wondering what you all thought about Value. Stats are close to those of the Harvester, sans "Dead Eye". Which do you think a Necro would be better off useing? The one big complaint I have about the Harvester is the weight. What ya think?

Stats-wise, this item is better than a Harvester, as is the Black Tome with Silver Runes, though many people don't realize that. Unless you are an Erudite or a Human (night blind), I would keep this and sell the Harvester. If I was an Erudite or Human Necro, I'd probably keep using the Harvester for the permanant Deadeye effect.

In any event, alaaraaf is right. Even if you decide not to use this item, hold onto it. The worth of the item will increase after the Halloween events end.

Hey.

Gratz on the nice item.

The weight issue for the Harvester isn't a big deal. It's heavy, but you get an STR boost from it. So, it's effective weight is only 3. Personally I love the Harvester, because it has the perfect look for a necromancer. (All I need is to finish the Shadowbound robe quest and I'm the Grim Reaper of the Iksar! *Grin*)

The -CHA on this is worse, but you can always put it in a bag. You have to do that with the Harvester, unless you wanna be poor anyhow. And finally, you get some nice resists out of this. (Probably not gonna appreciate them for a while, at L33.)

What this has going for it in a big way, is that you can put it in primary, or secondary slot. Which means you can use it and a Harvester if you want. If your profile is up to date, you're using a black tome in primary, which is maybe a little better than this, but without the resists.

I'd be inclined to say to hang onto it. (Even if you're not gonna use it!) Firstly, there will probably be quite a few of these in circulation just now. (Relatively speaking.) So if you did sell it, you'd get a pretty poor price. Secondly, you may never see one of these again, let alone get a chance to buy one!

Aside from anything else, if you're short on coins, you can always sell the Harvester, 'cos it's pretty easilly replacable.

Anyhow, these are my thoughts on it. If you were on my server, I'd probably tell ya to sell and make you a swift offer, but since you're not... *Grin* Of all the Halloween items I have seen, this is one of the nicest.

I Agree with most of what you say, right up to the last sentence, which I can't help but disagree with. This is nice, and perhaps nicer because it can be dropped, but there were some items in the halloween events which were much better. The warrior sword is the first that comes to mind, then the bard weapon. The wis caster belt (+5 (or was it 6?) wis on a belt, and mana and saves), was also very sweet. Warrior bracer is almost a hero bracer, etc... Those are just the ones i can think of.

Honestly, my take on the Tome is that it is somewhere in the middle of the pack. A very good item, but definitely not the best thing to drop in the events. Only reason I can see to say it is best, is because you can trade it. That part is nice.

I looted this Tome off a large spider that was already dead. It was suprising to see this item on an already dead spider since it is an item that could be sold.
