No MQ

I had this fang on another character and tried to MQ it - this quest can no longer be multi-quested. You are required to turn in all items together and a text message pops up telling you this. So, you need both parts for the key.
Just noting

Just to spare everyone a mistake I would make, this thing is No Drop, as the info says despite the old picture, as Raxiel noted.

Also, to agree with KathenKaziery (sorry if I butchered the name!), this item would make a decent ranged slot item, though, since Lulcin's contributions to this slot, its rather doubtful for many to find use for it in such a slot 40+, when this would more likely be obtained. As for melee use, of course, don't bother.

This item is just a key for Chardok, coupled with the Jade Prod spear. My 62 Druid found an easy time soloing for it, dropped 2 on the first kill. Followed right up with a trip to Lake of Il Omen to find the Jade Chortete Prod (Sorry for spelling), also having one drop the first time around. (Unlike the Fang, the Prod is not No Drop. If you have a couple plat to burn and don't feel like taking the trip, its a rather common item in the bazaar for a rather cheap price {400 tops on Rallos Zek, where weapons are worth more than average and armor is worth less than average due to PvP looting rules}).

Just a soloing tip to get this, walk as far into the zone as possible Invis, then, if you have (or are) an Invis vs Undead class, until with it til the castle. If not, just run right past the mobs at the outer-most part of their con radi, its likely you'll only auctally have to fight half of them. (I made the mistake of training down to the castle, it took a couple AoEs to clear up the disgusting mess it caused) Root the gaurds (and kill, at your leasure, the ~55 Druid root spell lasts for ages {the 61 Druid root spell is a joke, don't use it, atleast not here}, so, if you have the luxury of it, you can root the castle mobs on either side {left was my perference}), root Xalgoz, watch him die to a DoT or two, and Gate out before ever having to reconsider his gaurds. Melees, adapt as needed to this, I'm sure you'll have an easy time at it. Oh, yeah, the big guy went DoT crazy on me, only to be resisted. I'm pretty sure he can heal himself, but he wasted his mana before having the chance.

Happy hunting, enjoy Chardok =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 10 2003 at 12:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) your 62 and still don't know old school stuff like this, Chardok doesnt require a key at all. never has. the xalgozian fang is part of a key quest to Howling Stones (Charasis) with jade chokidai prod. Before putting up nice big informative posts, make sure they arent totally misleading from the beginning. Have a nice time in Chardok huh? what does this have to do with anything?

The guy just made a mistake is all. I am sure he meant Charasis / aka Howling Stones / aka home of Drusella Sathir.

The key is easy to get, but the zone can be a bit of a problem esp if you dont have a mezr in certain areas (bard / chanter). I have yet to go back after they upgraded it. It used to be one of the best exp zones in the game because the mobs being skele's had fewer hps for the level they were plus were undead so you could use the more efficient undead nukes.
#REDACTED, Posted: May 06 2003 at 4:08 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I find it funny that this weapon is lore yet he himself can drop more than one after he's keeled (fun words ^_^). Kinda silly...just like Qeynos backwards is SonyEQ...
#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 03 2003 at 8:57 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) i'm glad he does =)
#REDACTED, Posted: Dec 09 2003 at 11:14 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) He drops 2 cause they are fangs and xalgoz is a vampire sarnak so in my experience from tv movies books etc most vampires have 2 fangs unless your the vamp from blade who got his pulled out by Decon Frost.

Range?
# Feb 23 2003 at 10:12 AM Rating: Decent
Is it a range weapon... has "range:20" there. If it is range, it wouldnt be that bad for a warrior to put in range slot. A little extra str dex sta and agi we sure help anyone out, even at lvl 50 or so.
No Drop

These are no drop now. We killed him last night and he dropped two and they were both no drop.

I have only grouped here one time; but the fang dropped off xalgoz every time and our entire party recieved one so it has to be common and not rare.

You're right, this fang is by no means rare. Xalgoz always drops at least one. In fact, sometimes he even drops two! Sure they're lore, but that meand more than one person in your party can have one.

It's actually not that bad of a sword, though not really that great relative to the level you can defeat Xalgoz. It's real value though is that it's part of the quest to get the key into Howling Stones, a great place for xp and loot in your 50's.
pulling
# Oct 30 2001 at 11:02 PM Rating: Decent
this is a great weapon...not every warrior pulls using a bow...I never do..and as far as pulling goes unless your the highest lev warrior in the group u wont be pulling...and if the group has a monk or sk u wont be pulling...

For pulling? I'd put it in range, decent enough for a range item if you haven't got better for range, which I do not.

I think he means that since in the high level game warriors are 3rd on the list of preferred pullers, you won't need to have a bow equipped in range anymore, and can thus put this nifty little dagger there.

I wouldn't recommend that tho, unless you happen to get a second one, as this is more useful as a part of the HS key.

#Anonymous, Posted: Sep 20 2001 at 2:38 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If any person is high enough to where they can kill this guy im SURE their weapons they already have will be better ..this is NOT a "great" rogue weapon if rogues could use its a POS if the dmg was higher then it would be decent but a dmg of 6 is just plain old crap
RE: LOL this weapon sucks

who cares... this weapon is for me and our Guild only for the Key quest to charisis.
RE: LOL this weapon sucks
# Mar 04 2002 at 4:33 PM Rating: Excellent
/agree

I've had this thing in my range slot since about level 46. It's great for 2 reasons. Nice stats, and it's good to pull out once in a while (when you're in a really good group and not the tank) just to keep your piercing up. I currently have 1HS, 2HS, 1HB and peircing maxed. I've tried to keep my 2HB up, but it takes forever.

Anyway, just a suggestion. This and a summoned dagger for an hour or so every couple levels will easily keep your skill maxed out. You never know when you will stumble on that magnificent piercer that you can't use because you neglected your skills.

Don't be a dolt. It's a range slot item. Not many RANGE slot items that give you str, dex, sta and agi without adding alot of weight. It isn't used as a weapon... it's used for the added stats! You would be an idiot to throw it! lol besides it is a component in the Howling Stone key.
Oh oh
# May 30 2001 at 4:38 AM Rating: Default
If you wanna goin into Howling Stone, you need this and Jade choktai prod, to named frog in Swamp of no hope (not sure on name), kinda waste of good items..
Re: Range Slot
# May 26 2001 at 6:01 AM Rating: Default
This item has got to be the perfect ranged item for those who are not utter twinks.. or utterly stupid.. anything that gives out that much of 4 stats and can give them from the ranged slot is in my opinion one of the best items for the WARRIOR class in the game... <---- Hears crys of every other peircer useing class out then... then tunes them out. :)
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 03 2001 at 12:14 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Hello all me em after my key to Howling Stones it sucks but this and Jade Chokidai Prod are handed its hard but ill just go get this again except this is for the key to get in to Howling Stones.

RE: QUEST ITEM!!!
# Mar 24 2001 at 4:41 AM Rating: Default
What he means is that this item is used in a quest. This quest gives you the key to the zone Howling Stones (Charasis) if you turn in a Xalgoz fang and a Jade Chodaki Prod to a named frog in Swamp of No Hope.
#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 02 2001 at 4:55 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) comon this is like, the perfect rogue weapon!
RE: no rogue?
# May 01 2001 at 10:26 AM Rating: Decent
Um...as a rogue, by the time you can get in a group capable of killing this guy, you had better have a MUCH better weapon than this. Like...perhaps...the Burning Rapier? I don't personally know any Rogues that didn't have that weapon by 30ish. My EQ husband got his at 28. (Yes, he did have a bit of help from our guild, but anyone in a good guild or with a few friends can do that, it's just a matter of organizing a couple mid-level raiding parties. =D)
#Anonymous, Posted: Mar 13 2001 at 12:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes, just because it IS a dagger, doesn't mean that Rogues get to use it! (Rogues seem to say this exact thing about every single piercer in the game!) I've seen plenty of Rogue daggers that put this one to shame, anyway. My Warrior will be putting this in his range slot (Bye bye Dragoon Dirk, hehe) and only pulling it out to keep my piercing skill up (along with my Walrus tooth).

Range slot
# Jan 31 2001 at 2:42 AM Rating: Decent
I'm always glad to see stats on weapons, and the range slot equipable is nice. But, wouldn't a warrior rather have his bow equipped for pulling? Just curious as to what other warriors think about this.
RE: Range slot
# May 14 2001 at 6:14 PM Rating: Default
Sure, you're gonna use your bow to pull...but then it won't be used until every mob is dead. Might as well swap in this nice range slot item.
RE: Range slot
# Jul 10 2001 at 2:33 AM Rating: Good
Yup i had one very nice range slot item i would switch it back and forth with my bow till today when i forgot to switch and wham bye bye xalgozian fang ... ughhh that thing is a ***** to have to go down and get.

Hmm, well since its no drop, it can't be thrown then right?
RE: Range slot
# Aug 09 2001 at 7:16 PM Rating: Default
Its 'NO DROP'....not 'NO THROW' If you throw it, it goes byebye.
RE: Range slot
# Feb 16 2001 at 2:38 PM Rating: Default
It depends. When I pull..I do use a bow, but sometimes in dungeons there is no need. I'd love to get an item like this for my range slot against non casters. A nice match for the runed bone fork.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 24 2001 at 6:11 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I have a bow with stats :0 There are a few of them out there, and they are handy to have for pulling. Personally I have enough of a ***** time trying to swap all my weapons around to use their different procs in a long fight, this item is alot more useful as part of the key quest for howling stones. Of course most of you n00bs will probably never go there. So yeah, it'll be great for your lvl 12 warrior! Rock on!!

Yes, by the time you are able to get this weapon, you will probably have much better. However, have you ever known a warrior who is presently working on his HS key hoping for that Bloodpoint Dagger? Well, there's a good chance that he or she doesn't have their piercing very high because there aren't THAT many good piercers floating around in the game for warriors. Verant has done an excellent job of making blunt weapons skill useful for warriors, but the other weapons skills still stink. Most warriors I know use two 1HS weapons almost exclusively. Why? Because at high levels, they can put out much more damage with 2 one handers than with a single two hander, they have always used 1HS and are too lazy to work up their piercing from 0.

So, it does have it's uses. Just because a somewhat decent weapon is used for a quest, doesn't mean it's entirely worthless.

Piercing is worth working up for warriors. I am currently using a wurm in the primary with a shimmering partisan in my off hand. (17/39 +10 Str, +20 Dex, +10 Sv Cold, +10 Sv Fire - Magic, Lore, Equippable EITHER MELEE :)

It dropped off a Reaver in CoM

Back to camping the Frenzy in LGuk for the (much needed with 40dly weapons) FBSS ... :)
RE: Range slot
# Aug 06 2001 at 2:03 PM Rating: Default
Also, the taunt factor of 2 one handed weapons is about half again the taunt factor of a two handed weapon. Because the taunt formula works something like this:taunt skill activation + # of hits * (.x * damage done per hit) + x * spell/proc damage/effects
Basicly, using two one handed weapons make the mob hate them more, because they hit the mob more often, and in the endgame, tanks are just meatshields, expected to keep taunt the best they can while everyone else does their job.
