OK people get it straight
# Aug 06 2002 at 2:19 PM Rating: Excellent
I couldn't bare to read all these posts because most of them talk about how these should be for the chanters only, or mainly chanters....that is a big load of bullpucky. Shamans would love these too, our malise line of spells is based on CHA, and WIS is our mana...and if you are like me and have a wpn that procs the DEX is nice too. These boots are great for all casters, not just the chanters. I would roll on these.

Hmmm, brings up an interesting question for me:

Does the Malaise line of spells run off of CHA for every class, or just shammies?

Am a high elf mage, and i am constantly tryin to find ways to justify my high charisma hehehehe

Charisma has nothing to do with the Malo line. The only thing it effects for shamans is our charm spell.

Dunno why you lot bother posting sometimes, half of you only ever say 'this should be <insert class here> blah blah'

Then people flame crap loads.

The boots are a nice piece, good for a lot of classes.

It all depends on how you look at NEED. I'm a Ranger and although I'd never wear 'em in a fight, I would love to have the WIS for tradeskilling and CHA shopping. Sorry, but I'm gonna roll for em.
Are you kidding?
# Nov 02 2001 at 12:35 PM Rating: Default
Any melee who even dreams of wearing these boots should be shot. Preist classes and INT casters could make a case for wanting these boots, but lets be realistic folks. A chanter would get the most benifit from using these boots. I'm constantly in pick up groups...nearly all of which are NBG and i would expect these boots to go to the chanter if they need them. I would NOT support any other caster NBGing these over a chanter. And the post above about losing RBG's to casters...for the love that's horrible... but dang get those people blacklisted. Doesn't take too much to tarnish peoples reps... I promise they'll regret taking the RBG

I'm getting the idea that you didn't read the entire equipment list for Chardok before posting this. The Iksar Skin Boots have almostly exactly the same stats as these with 35 manna instead of 25. So these are not the best chanter boots. In fact as you read the posts on EqCasters realm under cleric spells..Death Pact you will see that the spell is effected by the Cha of the caster.

My enquiries to Verant ("Esther the Tester") got a response that the chance for this spell to hit is a function of charisma. Since I have low charisma, this could well be true. I'm going to try it again with +CHR equipment and buffs, and see how it does.- as posted on EqCastersRealm
These should go to any of the classes that can wear. But I would agree that to save these as shopping gear is an insult to any class that uses cha as a basis for spell casting.

"In fact as you read the posts on EqCasters realm under cleric spells..Death Pact you will see that the spell is effected by the Cha of the caster"

Actually, the CHA is based upon the person you cast death pact ON, not on your own cha just to clarify, as far as who should roll on these....the stats are awesome for any caster class so I'd offer anyone to roll who wanted to, however as a cleric I wouldn't take these simply because there are much better feet items out there for me but *shrug* I'm just a person who thinks everyone who can....should

Actually Iksar skin boots have different stats. After spending several hours in EC looking for a pair I was disapointed when i found out that they do not have the int (it may be that they dont have cha-- its been a while). :)

lol, imho these should have been chanter only. they're the best boots in the game for chanters, with a damned nice mix of both cha/int/mana for those who have a low int/cha combo. kinda evens things up when your looking at either gebs or loam shoes..very very nice boots.

If they had the effect of automatically sending the message "Ow, ow, get it off me...I'm a girly boy and it HURTS!" into shout channel whenever the wearer got hit by a mob then I would agree that they should be enchanter only. ;)

If you're on a guild raid, and you get these boots, they should go to the enchanter. Not because they wouldn't be great for any other class, but because they have both INT and CHA. Its become a running (un-funny) joke about all low weight items being Monk items, and I know people are tired of hearing about how all items that have CHA should go to the chanter, but these should. Druid charm spells are rarely (if ever) used. And I can't really see any other class needing the CHA. These are a chanter item as far as I'm concerned and I stand behind that opinion without apology.

I must agree with Shildare. These go to who ever needs them. You only mention 2 of the stats: int and cha. The dex, ac, and mana are also very nice. I would use these in a heartbeat. My primary boots are J-boots. I have not had the good fortune of winning GEBs, nor will i pay the money for them. I have the Velious quest gems, but again, no silken booties.

Not only would I use these, but most any BL would too. If a chanter does not have a 200 cha at the level to get these, something is wrong. (I started a chanter just to see how easy it is to get to 200 cha, HE with moderate twinkage goes to 200 fast)

Just another poor soul who pays the same $10 a month you do.

Personally I disagree with you there Jack. Personally I think the item should simply go to whomever will use the item. At the point at which people will be getting this item I think the stats on it are rather weak as an item and better items would hopefully be their target. Personally I'd be kinda baffled as to why anyone at that stage of the game would ask for such a thing other than to sell to people to twinks or for the stats when combined with the fact that they earned it.

Statistically there are far better and easier to attain boots in the game for an enchanter with charisma on them even if it is what is what you're striving to max. If you can't hit hard cap with int without your boots though very easily I have to say I'm quite suprised. Charisma is very good... Once you have it to a respectable level, however, there are much more important things to get as high as possible.
I got these of a MOB between the zones at the fort entrance.

I have a pair of these on my Chanter on Bertox... Goodbye fruities... These are great Caster and Priest boots.. Only 10 less mana than Iksar skin boots but wearable by many more classes... I don't know if they still drop or not or if they changed them to ksar Skin Boots, I got these the second day after they changed Chardok and hav not heard of any others on my server at least... Good luck to everyone on getting them...

Any caster of any kind can benifite from Cha be it Enchanter (me) Wizard, mage, necro, shaman, druid(helps nukes/dots to land for full damage)its not really a melee item per say, but only a greedy melee would roll on something of this calabier because they will just sell it.

Im curious how u think Cha effects nukes? lol thats all dependent on ur skill points. and Dots hit for full dmg every time depending on if the mob is standing still, feared (running away) or coming at u. thats the only time the dmg changes.

heh, "only a greedy melee would roll on something of this calabier because they will just sell it."

i will remember that next time a chanter beats out my warrior for an RBG in SEB...happened 2 times now. people rarely do need before greed in pickup groups short of the kunark class specific armors. not sure why, to be honest...well, i am, it is greed. only reason to play EQ at higher levels is to kill more mobs, and get more loot /sigh

one of the reasons as soon as my new video cards comes, i will be playing something else entirely DAoC =)

# Oct 31 2001 at 6:19 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah, and I the next time a Wizard rolls for a Fighting Baton in Dalnir. :p If all Monks present have one ok, but in this instance nope...

Unfortunately the greedy buggers will just about always outnumber the honest ones by almost 3 to 1. And this will apply to any such game, I'm betting DAoC as well within 6 months to a year (if even that long).

Friend, I'm afraid whatever game you get in will have greedy people. The thing to do is tie into a good guild that DOES work on a need-before-greed principle, and try to work with them most of the time. Whenever you do have to pick up a group, expect the greed and hope for the need. Feel free to suggest need-before-greed, and I'm sure some will support you. There will ALWAYS be greedy people though.

"charisma only effects charm based fear based and mez/lull spells as well as prices from vendors"

It does not effect Fear in the least either. Charisma only effects charm type spells such as charming or mez for both enchanters and bards. Specifically the higher your charisma is the more it lowers the MOBS saving throw against your charm/mez. It also has something to do with bards fizzling also, apparently.
And yes it also has to do with vendor prices.

Brad McQuaid some time back said exactly what each stat does since there were so many rumors floating about. They are now paraphrased on caster's realm underneath the appropriate char creation guides:

http://eq.castersrealm.com/creationguides/Bard.asp

"Charisma: This affects amount you will be paid for goods by NPC merchants, and how much they will pay you. It also affects the saving throw on certain Bard and Enchanter spells (charms in particular). For Bards, Charisma is much more important than for other classes. It not only effects their chance of songs being resisted, but also is part of the calculation for fizzled notes."

and the chanter area says something similar:

http://eq.castersrealm.com/creationguides/enchanter.asp

I remember the first part as what brad said but don't remember the fizzled notes part.

Charisma doesn't affect fear? Where, exactly, did you get that info? I was under the impression that charisma improves the chances of any mind affecting spells landing, and lasting. Charm, mez, fear, etc...

I love how the moment something lists CHA people jump and say, Enchanter. Uh.. monk quest armor has +CHA, should I tell verant to go ahead and allow enchanters to use them?

**** loads of stuff give +cha these days, get a life newbs.

Druids can charm animals, I think MAYBE shamans can too, but I don't think so. Necromancers can charm undead. Everyone who uses tradeskills or simply buys, well, anything on any regular basis can use CHA. I always loved the age-old BS story about CHA and fear..

When I made my necromancer, like, 20 months ago.. I saw "Charm level 24 Necromancer" listed on one of those wonderfully up to date websites (think castersrealm) and discovered after hiking my CHA to 75 as a gnome that they in fact do NOT get charm. (The "CHARM" spell not charm undead). I guess they used to, the spell lists it as being a level 61 spell if I stat a charm scroll with my necromancer to this day. Point is, I fear kite Wurms at level 51, and I doubt that if my fear kiting suffered I'd live through that..but, I do.

The Staff of Writhing with the -9CHA, or something like a forsaken pariah mask with the -25CHA has NO benefits that I know of.

So, no, these are not a waste for a necromancer, shaman, druid, cleric, enchanter, wizard, magician, or some broke foo' that can't afford real AC. IF the party agrees then a melee should be able to roll in order to raise themselves money to buy better boots.(Whoever said this is great for paladins is an idiot, a 5ac pair of boots? Plus, they don't get the same mana increases as a pure caster, PLUS, they suck **** anyways they aren't the main healer, they're another tank, jezzuz, get a clue. So what, they're going to stun twice more? WTF do you think wizards do? Stun, lure, and evac, that's about it. So what, you want to attempt to take that from them now too? Moron.)
RE: nifty
# Feb 05 2002 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent
If you are rolling on these boots just to sell when there is a chanter in the group who honestly needs them you need to reconsider your playing style. I for one am tired of having items that i sincerly need being taken by a warrior who is going to go straight to EC and sell it (example: crown of kind tranix-when i was the only chanter on the raid). Come on guys if someone really needs it then let them loot it (lets be honest these boots have better stats for an enchanter thatn any other class)if not then let everyone random for it and that lucky person can go make a few K in ec
Awesome...

These boots bridge the gap between boots with almost no wis, to Eboots with 9 wis. (Personally I still think Coldain Boots are better. 8 wis + mana)
Good for chanters
# Oct 30 2001 at 6:23 PM Rating: Default
These are probably best for chanters, 5 int, 5 cha, 25 mana...other classes don't really need the cha as much, and for casters, geb offers 4 more int/wis, so not really as good, unless int/wis is over 200. Any melee class should be shot for wearing boots with 5 ac, that drop in a lv 50+ zone. :)

Just because an item has charisma doesn't mean it should default to a chanter. These are nice boots for all INT/WIS casters. Probably better than Golden Efreeti boots after you get over 200 INT.

I was thinking the same thing as well, nice boots and an alternitive to GEB's. Wonder how much the price will level out at? Be a while before my druid would be able to go get some for herself, so unless I have a really nice uncle I am not aware of, a purchase would be the only way I will see some of these soon. Anyone have any idea what these look like, ... you know, for those fashion conscious of us out here?

Great pair of boots, not only for casters, but i see them as a big plus to priests too. Esp druids, seeing they dont get too many great pairs of boots as it is.
