As far as I can tell this is the ONLY rangeable item with a backstab mod. That won't come into play for many rogues, but with the ease of getting the Trident of the Pyrilen (17/20 piercer, good stats but no bs mod) it would be a very handy thing to have.
Most rogues are capped around 16/19 for mainhand poking until Ifir/Grmk or GoD/Omens raid pokers, so a decent stat range item with a BS mod would make for a lot of flexibility to maximize dps, especially with nice available (ie non-raid) non-pierce offhanders like despair, or granite sceptre of cruelty.
RoV has now been done by pickup/raiding clubs so it's not an outlandish thing to aim for these days.

Hello, this is a post I am making cause this is how a rogue should tank, lol, if this is tanking. I am making it in this thread about a weopon, cause that is where the debate rages, lol. First I have 8500hps and 1750AC, nearly full EP and P1/P2 time gear, 1 piece of KT armor.
This takes place in kod Taz and is the only way a rogue should end up tanking in a serious xp group in a serious place. The pally died, yes, he was new in guild and a bit less well equipped than me, I actually had a few more hps, cleric and druid had some bad luck or something, and he died with mob at 92 pct. Slow had landed, from a chanter, but I had agro on pally death ... Kyv Striked for 2856 on 1st hit from Ifir was a lucky start to the fight ... and I held agro til the end. there were 5 in grp, druid, cleric, chanter, me, and pally(ded) so the fight was not fast once I started tanking. Mobs hit for around 1250 max, but usually for around 400, they are very fast hitters, partially slowable, and they hit a lot, like bite bite bash slash bite sorta things, it was a hynid. My health was above 60 for this whole fight, but druid and cleric calmed down when they realised I wasn't doing that bad, and by the end druid was nuking and cleric was healing me efficiently. Rogues can tank in an emergency, if chanter had said mez it I would have let her, but she said tank it Valda, so I did.

got one on like our 9th RoV (farming this ring blows btw), straight to bag it went. dagger of magelo profile leetness +25 these days, but great to see it drop, remembering how cool it was in late velious era.

I agree that rogues shouldn't tank if they don't have to (rangers too for that matter) but what i find really idiotic is talking about tanking rogues under posts for a weapon. Yes, i understand that this wasn't the only one, pt is they should all be posted under the rogue discussion forum =P.

I'm am untwinked unuber rogue on Rodcet Nife, I'm not elemental flagged, and only have one piece of ornate armor. Yet with a full set of buffs I top 6700hp's at lvl 65, I can easily tank in BoT, HoH, and Tactics. As for aggro, you are only half right, procs aren't the only thing that helps, speed is essential. When I tank, I use a Vyemm's Fang in primary, and a Malevolent Dirk Of Deception offhand, this was plenty of aggro, but when tanking a named I find that it isn't always enough, so I got an 125dd augment to put in the Vyemm's Fang. With 305 dex(buffed) and a 13/17 weapon with a heavy hate inducing proc, I can easily outtaunt warriors, and even most pallies with ease, the dagger easily procs 10 or more times per fight. My defense is maxed and with decent gear I am at about 1400ac buffed. Is my dps higher when I'm not tanking? Yes. But I can still easily tank when I have to.

speaking of idiots, if you think frontally you could out taunt a paladin.... i am going to say that your sorely mistaken, sure you can hold it if a pally is simply normal meeleing, but if an sk/pal is wanting aggro, you better bet sure as **** they are gonna take it from you lol, its just not feasible from how you describe yourself to keep up aggro with someone who knows waht they are doing actually trying to take it from you, especially a paladin.

You need to define "tanking" in order for any of this to make sence.
If you concider tanking to be just staying alive long enough for a healer to heal you, then sure, given a specific situation, anyone can call themselves a tank.
But If you concider the tank to be the classes best at holding agro vs classes that are going to potentially outdamage you and provide the best healing efficiency, Rogues are NEVER preferable tanks.
Sure we "can" take a hit, but Rogues are a dps class that is serverely screwed dps-wise if we don't avoid agro. A Rogue MT is a waste of healing efficiency and a waste of dps. I'd pretty much any other melee class in the group tank before I would.

true and also i just need to add in this comment... ROGUES CANT BACKSTAB FROM THE FRONT lol i mean we got rogues doing 2-3k dmg per max backstab and even 900+ is lovely but if your a tanking rogue your retarded for giving up backstabbing for tanking

I agree it would be silly for a rogue to be the tank, unless it is an unbalanced grp, like a 56 rogue and 48-50 for almost all other characters in a PoJ group.

Won this sticker on a rot bid after RoV and it went right in my bank. /shrug There are better weapons in PoP for similar or less risk than the 3 hour ROV event (5-6 hrs if you consider you have to clear NToV first) 16+ damage backstabbers are 'de rigeur' for rogues at this level of the game but Verant is scared of providing access to them to too many rogues because then we may be considered too powerful.
The 90hp dot is a bit of a joke when you consider its called "feast of blood"...more like "snack of light wounds". I have 4 procs going on my weapons (GRMK, DoI with LDON DD gem + poison DD which I like to use) and although sometimes I run into aggro problems, I can usually shake it off by evade or (if that fails) simply backing out of the fight for a few seconds. Tanks with BoC, BF, Hategiver etc. and Area Taunt can overcome most competing aggro (they have to)..although they complain more about the wizzies (who for some odd reason dont like to take up a spell gem with Concussion =) ) than the rogues.
Rogues don't tank in raid situations, but in mixed xp groups without a war or pally I tank all the time (7k hps raid buffed) and hold aggro at least better than a ranger (which I suppose is not saying much..sorry rangers) but prolly not as good as a pally with stuns or a war with a +hate proc weapon. Chain armor mitigation is not that great even with ID5 and LR5, but its serviceable for quick action.

Finally someone who understands like I do that a Rogue at Higher Levels can Tank and that This weapon isn't going to get you agro any more than 90% of the GM poisons that you can make... I.E. SoS / Mages bane / Warriors Rage / So forth and So on.... So thank you for your excellent post.

If you are a Rogue, or you are ever grouped with a rogue, and the Rogue has Agro then the Rogue better be the MT otherwise he/she doesn't know what the heck they are doing. Yes I said MT. If you honestly believe that Rogue can not MT then you have no clue about how a Melle really works. I have been an MT many times. From VS-GV I have beeen a MT. Only and I do mean only when I have been a MT do I get agro. Why? Because I Evade every freaking chance I get. Auto on backstab Auto off hide Auto on Backstab Auto off Hide. so forth and so on. If you happen to be using GM Poisons with your weapons, then yeah maybe you'll get a bit of agro. Then again if you have GM poisons and a weapon worthy of any mention then your shouldn't have to worry about getting slapped around a little bit. I am a LVL 56 Dark Elf Rogue. I have 2.9k hp and 1150ac. My dex and Agi are both over 200 as well as my Str. A rogue can MT and A rogue shouldn't get agro if he/she doesn't want it. Does not matter what weapon you are using. Period end of Story.

I Tank all the time, and I am a rogue yes Rogues can tank. PoJ comes to mind, not to mention the new zones of LDoN. You my friend are obviously one of the many people of Norath who underestimates the power of a rogue. Should a rogue be Tanking??? Only if there are No Pally's,Sk's,Warriors around...But can they if need be? yes they can. The point of this whole post in the first place was that Just because a weapon Is high damage, a big proc, low delay and it is for More classes than just a rogue. Saying that the rogue will get agro and die so they shouldn't get the weapon is no excuse.
The rogue shouldn't get agro, and if he is rolling for this item then he shouldn't have to worry about taking some hit.

I do not have uber gear it's pretty much mediocre and I have MT'd in all of these zones.
I play on the Povar server, and If you do as well then I'd be glad to show you that a Rogue can tank. The only zone that I have been in where I will not tank and probably can not tank is PoV... I did tank in PoS the other day and CoD... When you GM poison Making as a rogue you can start to make some pretty devistating poisons. Most True tanks can not keep agro when I am in a group.... I evade evade evade to try and give it back to them, but between the poison and over 1k backstabs the mobs just lose all entrance in the warrior/pally Sk's usually keep agro through there spells, or procs. I'm lvl 59 and my ac is 1200, my hp's are 3k. This is unbuffed. Yeah for some people that may not seem to great but again I am a rogue lmao and my Sta sucks. However I don't get hit often during battle.. When i do yes it hurts, but my dex/agi are so freaking high that the mobs usually just miss me or only hit for half of what they can. I'm not saying if you have a choice between a Real tank and a rogue to take a Rogue. What I am saying is that if all else fails and you can't find a True tank then a Rogue if decently equiped and who knows what they are doing will do in there place. Unless you know the Rogue and trust him then no I wouldn't have one as my MT... And never in a Raid group that would just be stupid....

Not to point out the obvious, but a druid could tank any of the places you mentioned.
Rogues can't MT. Even less so in a raid. Even ignoring the damage mitigation part of tanking, they'd lose their ability to backstab and would have significantly reduced damage output (thus, lower aggro). The healing that would be required to keep the rogue up would pull aggro off the rogue very fast.

LOL, no kidding. My warrior solos in those places and I'm pre NToV, too.
Chaotic Stab allows a rogue to bs from any side and i have seen a few rogues that can hold agro better then alot of warriors kinda funny to a paper tank go down to be shown up by a rogue yes rogues cannot taunt but hold agro very well when they want to.

Heh, whilst tanking, without Chaotic Stab, and ****** gear rogues have crap mitigation. Other than that, a GOOD rogue(decent gear, not stupid, pressed backstab when it pops, etc) is generaly the best dmg mitigation you can find. Granted casters nuke for tons, but if they try to keep up with a rogue they get ag and die. So they don't deal as much dmg in the long run.

People that think rogues will get too much agro and die using this shut your damn mouths already cause obviously you NEVER played a rogue before so you dont know. I real rogue not a PLed one or ebayed..a rogue that gained lvl starting from lvl 1 ..btw rogues that are in their 20's and 30's are still noobs..you dont really know what it means to play one til you can at least get into places like KC, Seb and Velks. All you idiots that think we will die by using this weapon please STFU. All nonrogues dont have evade all you monkeys see is dly19 and you automatically think "omg dead rogue ..definitely" out of all the weapons ive used from the vexthorne (dmg 9 dly 19) to my epic i NEVER got "too much agro" i only died from morons mainly Monks(cause they just dont listen and pull while cleric says repeatedly 10mana and they dont stay on the MT side so messes up rogues bstab) and rangers (who dont snare when they are the ONLY snarer in the group and we get wipedout) thats what i die from..other peoples stupidity.

This is a mainhand weapon. The proc does little aggro and the dmg is great. I do not see a big problem with aggro control on this weapon. If you want to see a aggro weapon, look at our dagger drop in sleepers. thx

The right way, btw, would be evading of course, in combination with the much higher level weaponry and taunt of a 60 warrior MT (which will surely be around whoever has this dagger, as it would take some serious players to kill vulaak

Just to sum this all up: any guild good enough to get this dagger is more than likely to have attained some degree of good weaponry for its warriors/tanks, who will also most likeley be very good players. the fact is, it will take some good plkayers to get this, and a good player will know how to use it. there is never *too much* damage unless you can't play your character the right way.

First off what a great weapon, wish i could get my hands on one...soon mabye. A Great rogue weapon is a realy rare thing from VI, Rogues are all about dammage...now we can do it! (If you can kill Vulak'Aerr and win the roll, big if)... now to the point.. (here comes a rant)
A GOOD ROGUE CAN ALWAYS EVADE! timing and common sense is the key. no matter how much agro you draw, proper evasion will not fail you...
Too many people complain about the agro a weapon draws, learn how to play your class... most of em started a rogue because if was fassionable as of late and TWINKED him to HighHell, so they dont even realy understand what it is to be a rogue and learn evade.... hmm... LVL 29 Rogue with MK armor,fbss,crys spider fand and trak tooth, with fungus covered scale tunic, soloing forest giants in FM fort... gave him a hand for a few, i had to teach him how to evade! sheesh...man at least try a character un twinked so you can learn the stregnths and weaknesses of your class, rogue soloing isnt their great role.(i actualy like to twink, but not at the cost of not learnig your class..) sorry for the rant, warned you thogh..

Not gonna flame ya because i have this problem also.. I've got items beyond my lvl (no not twink bought by myself in EC) and i cant keep aggro offa me at times even with evade...

Posted: Nov 01 2001 at 11:36 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ill probably get flamed... since I am ignorant(haven't fought with any of these dragons, not refering to my intelect) to the battles with Vulak and all them uber dragons in ToV... but from what I see now, just being a lvl 53 warrior, it is hard enough keeping the taunt off a rogue equal in lvl with his epic poker. Now with this thing, Id probably cry knowing that my life as a tank is over, cause i wouldnt be able to keep the guy off the rogue for the life of me. Theres a fine line between awsome damage, and too much damage. Let me explain, If your rogue is doing TOO much damage, he will instantly get aggroed, and with weapons flying to fast and hitting for such insane damage like the old 12/16 mrylokars, the rogue will die very fast from being hit to many times, and all that will be left is us mediocre damage dealers, ie monkeys and tanks. Kinda defeats the purpose of killing something quicker, if the person doing the fast killing is dead :\ With that in mind, I think verant did the right thing by nerfing such an uber weapon. Now I dont have primals or better weapons yet, and i dont have haste belts or cloaks which permanent haste for over 40% and my str isnt 255 with all the stats to boot. But I do have a 21% haste belt, and with epic chanter haste, shissar, i can just about keep the taunt on me from a rogue. Partially due to the fact i got a Sarnak Warhammer. For those of you who dont know what the hammer is... its a 9/20 1hb and procs stun. Most enemies really get ticked when it procs :) So the constant procing of stun more or less keeps em bitin at me and off my rogue. Again... flame me if you will, just my opinion, something we all have the right to do. I didn't flame anyone here, and I hope you respect that. My hat goes off to you verant, you guys take a lot of heat, and sometimes people dont know whats best for them. I know you have to be smarter than the average Joe to create such a dynamic game, and if you do something, I for one trust you that you have a reason for it being that way.

Posted: Jun 21 2002 at 1:24 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) there is a flaw in your arguement...YOU can't keep argo aganist a same lvl rogue with epic , because..1) that rogue is most likely an idiot and not using his evade skill...2)as you said you don't have primals or 255 str or 40% haste items and your using a sarnak warhammer... the way I see it is if someone your lvl has their epic already...then you should probably have better than a sarnak warhammer if you have even a thought of keeping argo. I would be impressed if you could keep argo off the cleric who heals you in a fight, let alone another melee player. let me guess...your cleric buddy has to root EVERY mob you fight right?
I really think the name of this dagger is... appropriate :)

Never heard of them b4, and is their a shortcut to their page.
I may be wrong, but Vis Maior is an ally guild of Fires of Heaven on Veeshan. And you don't really need a link to the page, since its on the screenshot.
