do these things look different or do they just look like plate armor? I haven't seen them in the fashion tables but I haven't bothered looking in a while.

Here's what it looks like on me - gaunts are Ro and helm is Deepwater:

Basically, it's the look of fine plate, tinted colors depending on the gem used to imbue.

Unimbued Field Plate is the same color as fine plate.

Mightion, I ask because you would seem to know--

I am a Smith, at skill 137. How much plat is involved in skilling up to the point where you can make Cultural?

I know this question was addressed to Mightion, but I'm guessing you wanted a more concete answer, so I'm adding my 2cp.

In my experience (i'm not there yet, Skill 145), I am spending about 200pp per skill point if I try to just power my skill up. I'd imagine that will probably double at 168 when mantles trivial and I have to use cloaks to get to 175. Past that point, I have no clue, although I would guess that 1-2k plat per skill point might be about right. Everything I hear says 190 is the skill level you want before trying the Imbued field plate. Therefore, using my estimates, I would venture that it would cost you about:

8200pp to get to 168
2800pp to get to 175
30000pp to get to 190
-------
41k plat total. Thats assuming the high end of all my estimates. Half that if you get really lucky. BTW the info I presented I got primarily from the smithing forum on eqtraders.

I try not to think about it. It keeps me up nights just thinking of all the diamonds I go through.

I didn't keep track of how much I've spent. The money's nothing compared to the hassle of getting leather padding and running back and forth to Highkeep for ore.

So, a one word answer then: Oodles.

On my server on Xev, (Guild shall remain nameless, of course) as the guildmaster of my guild with a blacksmithing skill of 244, together with my two buddies, we make tonnes of cultural armour. I am a Barbarian Shaman, my buddy is a High Elf, and my other friend is a Human. Between the 3 of us, we make Northman armour, Field Plate and Mithril armor, and the imbued versions, Tribunal, Mith Marr and Tunare respectively. In our guild we have a kind of a thing going on.
The 3 of us have been playing for over 2 years now, and granted we never made 60 (spent so much time having fun instead of leveling) we broke off from an Uber Guild on our server, and created our own newbie guild. Every week on the sunday, We each make a few pieces of the types of armor for our newbie members. And we give them a 'Quest' of sorts.
Like last week we had this quest, a Tunare worshiping High elf magician in our guild wanted to get the Imbued Mithril BP (wearble by casters), so we gave him this quest.
Bring me;
1- Shadow Wolf Pelt
2- Rune of Karana
3- Plains Pebble
4- Flowing Black Robe
5- Orc Pawn Scalp
6- Blackburrow Gnoll Pelt
7- Greater Lightstone
8- Oak Leaf

And we gave him 3 hours to gather all the items together. But he wasn't able to,.. but he begged us for another few more hours.... hey we already made the thing in anticipation for giving to him so we said heck we'll wait some more.
Finally, after 5 hours total, he managed to get all the pieces, and myself and the Wizzie TPed over to Gfay where he got the last piece of the quest, and he gave the items over to us, and we gave him the Mithril BP. Cool Huh?
Myself and my two buddies have quite a nest egg tucked away from the 2 over years of playing (just to give you an idea of how much PP we have, each of us has another spare level 6 mule just to hold the cash, as our bank cannot hold that much)
and coz we three always work together, we rarely had to buy any uber equipment in the past (and also coz we are all wearing planes gear thanks to our connections with our previous guild)

So anyway... to summarise, this is not all about which gear is 'uber', this is a real fun way to hand out items for your twinks or to your very appreciative guildmates.

So go out there, stop leveling, and have fun!
Ta-Ta!

I've been playing various characters on Xegony for nearly two years, now, and I'm just not used to seeing posts from my server at all around here, way to go Mightion!

#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 22 2001 at 7:13 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Mightion is so uber that if I were in an uber guild I'd be like whoa that guy is uber
Another pitiful piece of gear.

I'm embarrassed to be an artisan when I see stuff like this. Considering the difficulty and cost involved in even attempting these items, not to mention the high failure rate, the stats available are just not worth the trouble.

The only reasonable thing to do with this stuff is to twink a newbie, and skill up to 250 after fine plate becomes trivial. Bah!

I know there are better items out there; but I'm making this suit because I want to, so I can say "That's MY handiwork."

No, tradeskills, especially smithing, aren't for everyone. I like it, and I'm proud to be able to make these. I like it when people red to me stop in their tracks and go "What armor is that?"

Yes, it's difficult and expensive to make. Yes, the stats aren't terrific. But making it is no more shameful than camping one spot over and over hoping for a_lewt_dropping_mob to spawn.

Congratulations on actually making it, but surely even you can agree there's better uses for a Diamond than making (attempting!) Imbued Mithaniel Marr armor? :-)

Oh, I would love a Mith Marr imbued idol (still have one imbued diamond left), or maybe some Mith Marr jewelry...

But I didn't have a lot of say over what gem Mith Marr imbued field plate requires.

And DON'T call me Shirley.

They don't trivial.

None of the imbued plate armors do.

I got lucky and made these on my first try at 195 skill, but then I failed twice on the legs before succeeding.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 22 2001 at 6:41 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Mightion r0><0rz!!! I'm going to go to Xegony just so I can have him twink me! =D
