Barbed rubicite coif is better. Coif gives 15 sta and 55 hps along with much better resists.

Yet to see a pair of barbed rubi go for under 80k... Seen Chokidai Pauldrons for about 5k.

If you got 80k, by all means. If you don't, these are a nice substitute.
off what?

I read all the posts here. These shoulders are awesome. I'm 60 rogue on Saryn (look me up, Stubie) and I want these. If you have them, I'm paying good $$.

For a rogue, and many other melee, HP is king. This item gives over +100hp which makes them uba. The only real issue is the -saves, but you just pop in your resist gear for that one fight that you need it for and you're set.

For those that think it's crap, I think you're mitaken. Also, if you're bored some time, parse some data and see what 5, 10 or even 20 AC difference makes in the damage you take... you might be surprised at what little difference it really makes.

Stubie of Saryn
Great for monks.

I'd take this over many higher AC shoulder pieces. The +STA and +HP are that good. I already have 1K unbuffed AC, I'm more concerned about lasting longer. The strength will lower my DPS to maybe the equivalent of... a warrior. Which leaves a monk wearing this still outdamaging all but rogues. At 60, this is a 105 HP item. Very handy. Of course, by then hopefully you have better.

Actually at 60 this is 115hp for a monk, and to get better before or at 60... think again, it's not that easy ;)

Only "easy" to get shoulders that are better that I can think of (same or more hp) are the ones from Insanity Crawler in AR (15sta 55hp), Barbed Rubicite from CT and Cords from Chardok quest.

There are others of course, but those are by no means easy to get and you can't farm them.

So, these shoulders are very nice and I have sold a couple for 4 times what they are listed for here ;)

EDIT: And yes indeed, they do drop off Deathfang in the Kennel area of Chardok - PH is "an imperial wardog", the one in the middle of three dogs in the pen.

Hit enter by accident. What I was going to say is that most monks in their right mind would take the engraved bone pauldrons over this (12ac 3dex 5agi -20 cha, same weight). I know I would. The HP is nice, but AC is king, plus -str isnt great for a monk, although it can be replaced, there arent that many +str items for monk, not to say there are none, but a lot of them go in slots where you might want something else like a haste item. Only really big +str items that come to mind for monk are TBB, gauntlets of potence, and gauntlets of mortality(which i have, another situational item). All three of those give 15 str.
Engraved bone pauldrons arent that expensive either, really. On a twink, of course, it would be nice, or for PR based raids(only one i can think of is trak really)When you reach a level at which AC is more important than HP, which personally id say would be around 30-40 and up, youd want to get rid of them.

Im a monk in my right mind. I ditched engraved bone for this sucker in an instant. All the information you have given is purely the stuff that people have told you. AC is not king. Strength dosent mean a horses patoot to monks. Just putting this thing on gives me over 100hp , look up some of the tradables that give +100 hp and you tell me how much they go for.

These are actually PRETTY nice. -10str is bad yeah, but it is the easiest stat the raise. More poison mobs than disease mobs anyway. Trak for one. +15sta is nice, since STA is pretty hard to raise. -10svd IS bad, it's also hard to raise up but the other benefits on this item are worth getting.
Kinda pathetic...

Actually, these stink. There are some much better shoulder slots that are much easier to get. Carnal pauldrons, Guardian Pauldrons, BS mantle, Drovlarg mantle... I'd take any of those over this.
The only thing that might make this wearable is if you're desperate to get your STA over 100, so you don't fatigue out during melee, so it might be a tolerable item for rangers or bards who typically have trouble getting to 100 STA.
Otherwise, just give this item to one of your low twinks. They could use the extra hp, maybe.
Chardok is a really rough zone. You don't walk into that place hoping to get an item like this.
RE: Kinda pathetic...
# Jul 23 2002 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
Wow, these are not pathetic at all. I would kill for a shoulder item that gave me 145hp. I don't think you understand the real reason why people want this item. Oh and 15sta = 90hp for a 60 warrior and 90 + 55 = 145hp. Wow...
RE: Kinda pathetic...
# Oct 23 2001 at 11:28 PM Rating: Decent
Stamina=hp. HP are god. This thing adds over 100 hp(like 140 at 60 for a war). That is awesome, alot of wars I know will be after these.
They drool over those barbed dragonhide ones from kael. Never everyone has the best in every slot, is nice to see another nice HP shoulder item.
Who cares about dis resist
# Oct 23 2001 at 7:30 AM Rating: Decent
Nowadays there are hardly any mobs that use dis effects. And ummm -10str, Str is THE easiest stat to raise. So its pretty good for anyone who wants hp )
ouch
# Oct 22 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Default
negative to resistances? :( ah well...many con's/pro's to this item...whoever made it was pretty pumped up on crack though. although i do agree, good shaman item by the looks, plenty of +hp for canibalize
RE: ouch
# Oct 23 2001 at 2:49 AM Rating: Excellent
I guess this is more of Verant's idea of "situational equipment" - items that are good for particular circumstances but not the best "all the time". +10 PR would be nice to have against certain Mobs.... Trakanon comes to mind.
Shammies
# Oct 22 2001 at 10:02 PM Rating: Decent
Not bad for shamans. 15sta + 55hp = lots of HP for canabilize. 5ac sucks but could be none at all, so these ain't half bad for a mid level shaman. btw the -10 str doesnt matter so plz dont post anything bout that if anyone was thx :)

# Oct 22 2001 at 9:10 PM Rating: Default
actually you could find a fair number of monks who'd want this...most higher lvl ones already have great str, and the STA and HP and RESISTS are VERY nice, though the AC is a bit low it makes up for it in HP and RESISTS
quest?
# Oct 22 2001 at 7:09 PM Rating: Decent
Perhaps a quest item used in a future planned quest. At least i hope so cus i do not see any classes wanting to wear there....
