I've had this item since my early 50's on my SK, and plan on getting one for my necromancer as well. Can come in handy if you fight in airless zones like the grey and don't have worn eb. Especially after a rez when you might not have the mana to cast the actual spell or cast DMF. Just grab earring and click.
Is there something I'm missing that would make this less valuable than the spell? From what I'm seeing, the effect on this item has a cast time of 1.5 seconds, whereas the actual spell is 6.0. This item costs no mana, whereas the spell costs 100. You can use this item 6 levels before the spell. Throw in the stats bonuses, and I would gladly pay the extra money for this item, and leave the spell on the vendor.
Please let me know if I'm missing something here....
for necros, it's not that great since its a self only spell. You can still use it on yourself when you dont want to fry mana on DMF...
The real use I see is for SKs to just click in, since they dont get this spell until 55, and this is a free cast. The only difference between this and DMF is its self only, and no see invis
Bought one last night in the Bazaar for 250pp, so guess I got a good deal :). I figured that it was better than the 35HP/25MANA ear-ring but priced lower because of the weight, obviously not... shame I've got ten levels to go before the effect works, and will get DMF before that!
I saw this in the Bazaar for 1K. I already maxed out my INT, and was well over the hard cap. So I figure I can swipe a quick 35mana and up my hitpoints by 35 at the same time.
I hunt in the Grey often. The bobbing corpse in 1.5 seconds sounded great. I could right click the whole party in just 10 seconds. Well oops, the affect is *self-only*.
This really made the utility of the item drop IMO. I can DMF myself, and it lasts longer and is better. Its not like I need to switch spell gems every 20 minutes, DMF lasts like an hour. For a SK in the 49 to 54 range, the piece has merit, but for 55+ SKs and DMF capable necromancers, don't bother unless you need a cheap way to up mana/hitpoints when capped out. Also useful as a junk buff filler.
Verant makes some wierd decisions, imagine the value of this earring if it was targetable or usable by say a warrior.
A bunch of necros complaining about an item that is more for sk's, yes necros could use it if they only wanted the eb part of the effect, and didn't want to waste the mana, but the real deal here is sk's get this very spell but not until 55, and you can use this item at 49, that Makes it very nice for the sk's that could use the EB,Lev, and SvP....no see invis kinda sucks, but it doesn't ruin it for the sk's....
"Its not like I need to switch spell gems every 20 minutes, DMF lasts like an hour"
Yeah, but it's still a pain when there are mobs sitting around waiting to be killed. I wouldn't have paid 3k plat for this ear-ring just for the clickable effect (as I said, I got it for 250pp), but unless I really need the poison resist of DMF I'd much rather just click the ear-ring than faff around swapping spells and recasting DMF when it runs out; I have a Harvester so the see invis isn't important either. So for me, with those stats, that effect and that price, it's a real bargain. Shame about the weight though.
Im a lvl 49sk and this item rocks. Works at lvl 49, and SK gets the spell at 55. The Bobbing corpse gives you 20svd/Levitate/and water breathing. Imo this earring is damn awesome paid 2k for it on the nameless usually sells for about 4k
I refered a good friend of mine to pick one up, and she did. She said it didn't work for her until she hit 49.
Hope that helps =)
(Also, phat earring... Helps tremendously on dispelling mobs... Naggy never touched one other buff save for this since the 1.5 casting time was done inbetween swings, and he'd just dispell that, so Aego/SoS were never even close to being touched... All my crap buffs were up too =P)
Passed this around to some fellow sk's in guild. The effect worked for a level 51, failed to work for a level 39. Bobbing Corpse is an amazing utility spell and I still use this earring at 59. Normal cast time for the Bobbing Corpse spell is 6 seconds or so and the earring effect takes somewhere between 1.5 and 2 seconds to cast.
I wear this earring, and oddly enough it is necromancer only.
It's funny though, I have sold a few of the druid/ranger earrings (earring of woven bark) and it has the same stats, only differs with the effect of snare, and that one is druid/ranger equippable.
Why the bauble weighs 3 pounds when the other earrings weigh much less is beyond me. It's a decent earring if you don't need the pr or the see invis effect of dmf. (thats what fingerbone hoops are for) Click EB comes in handy when you die in the grey and need to get ressed. :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spell cast on you: Your skin shrivels. Spell cast on someone: Soandso's skin shrivels. Spell fades: Your skin returns to normal.
Whoops, so it is a necro only, eh? In my original post, I was talking about how SK's may not use this much. Well, its been confirmed...they won't be using it at all. This is nice for necros.
