WTF?!
# Nov 03 2002 at 3:24 PM Rating: Default
How on earth did they come up with the races on this thing? There are small, medium and large races, but no Barbs. I want this for my Barbie!

I don't know how they came up with the races. But if you want this for your Barbarian, then get the Imbued Granite Spaulder. IBS has same stats just completely different races

Nice saves and AC isnt bad for a shoulder item
worthless

None of the other posts here help by posting anything actually about the item that is useful to other people. Who cares about the listed classes and races. Who cares about what class this is best or worst for. STFU if you dont have information about item specifially or your experience getting the item itself. Go to flamevault if you want to hear yourself talk.

Anyone notice the weight? It is crazy! Bones could never weight that much and actually fit someone. They are much too heavy. That's all i'm gonna say

anyone wanna bet taimat's a monk? J/K man, you are right. But then again, when was the last time you weighed a sarnak bone?
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 21 2001 at 11:02 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) well this is one heck of a cool item for my halfling druid or any big race or little race character too. i'm just wondering though what is up with a piece that can be worn by big races or small races but not medium wearing races.... with the exception of the iksar and vah shir. Iksars can't wear plate, i know, and vah shir to my knowledge can. It's just a little surprising that they leave out all the elves and the humans(erudite, human, barbarian) out of the mix. My only idea is that this must be designed for the newest sever which has basis of roleplaying. Seems they giving the evils, and the shorties an advantage.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 02 2001 at 2:11 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) imbued granite spauders are for the medium races, they decided to make one for us smalls, and the bigs.

I don't know why this concept seems so hard to grasp or master, but it seems like every third item that is posted (here or on any other boards, for that matter...), there is some arguement like "since when can dwarves be bards?" or "wood elves can't be a shaman or paladin!" or "<insert your favorite can't be race/class combo here>"...

Here is the deal, these combinations show up because of the way they are coded ("programmed") by the designers when they create them. Rather than list each race and each class out in detail in the information for each item in the game, they have a code which indicates a particular 'group' of races or classes. They obviously have class group codes for things like, 'chain-wearing classes' and 'non-wisdom caster classes' and 'all melee classes', etc., etc. And they also have racial group codes for things such as 'small races' and 'evil races' and 'large races' etc., etc. When they design an item, they rate it equipable for a combination of codes, so you end up with things like gnome rangers or ogre monks looking like "possible" classes the item was meant for. As an example, I may want to design an item usable by Barbaian Rogues. I could use a code specifically for the rogue class, and then a code for large races. It would look like this:
Class: ROG
Race: BAR TRL OGR VAH
That does not mean that either trolls or ogres can suddenly be rogues, just that they happened to be included by the codes the designer used to specify the "usability data" for that item.

So when you see these items with 'impossible' race class combinations, just remember that they ended up there because of the codes the programmers used to specify usability data, not because Verant doesn't understand your Iksar cannot be a Cleric, or that they are suddenly going to allow Erudites to become a Shaman. No need to cry or whine or lament or disparage or argue or puzzle or moan or etc., etc., ... just deal with it and get over it.
wicked item

if you didnt notice IGS are medium races only this item is small and large races only making it the IGS for those races

IGS are plate too, Not iksar wearable. These are indeed excellent shoulders. I'd like to get my claws on one.

For the record, Imbued Granite Spaulders are medium and large races with slightly lower resists and higher AC.

It is large "race" wearable, not "races". Only large race that can wear are barbarians....and they dont really count as "large" ;)

#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 19 2001 at 1:09 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) there is only one class on here which can't use them, that is ranger, and maybe the vah shir will be able to be rangers, maybe verant had a change of heart. It's possible, but not likely.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 20 2001 at 12:43 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Rangers are on there first off and second this is useable by any class/race that can't use IGS. Get a clue moron.
RE: ugh
# Oct 20 2001 at 3:56 PM Rating: Default
Allow me to explain it to you, hopefully, in a way that you can understand:
"there is only one class on here which can't use them, that is ranger"
This person acknowledges that Rangers are listed as being able to use the item, but goes on to point out that none of the races listed can be Rangers, unless Verant is going to allow the Vah to become one.
So please, read the post before you make your ignorant comments.
Thank you.

My guess is that Verant knew what they were doing since halflings and gnomes will soon be able to be rangers. They prolly coded this the same way BL and VAH items showed up long before the release of SOL.
Imbued granite spaulders
# Oct 19 2001 at 10:37 AM Rating: Default
these are comparable to imbued granite spaulders for all the races that cant use them. altouh not as good an no-droppable, they are nice to have for resist situations and would come in handy for dueling.
RE: Imbued granite spaulders
# Oct 22 2001 at 12:38 PM Rating: Decent
"and would come in handy for dueling"

Actually people seek out items like this for raiding where the big mobs cast ae spells and everyone needs resist gear.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 19 2001 at 7:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I go on raids almost daily i just picked one of these up 12 to all resist but low ac. although it has better ac than my pegaus feather cloak which i wear most of the time so i can just click lev and fly away. but when i go on raids now im gonna have to throw this on my shoulds esspecially when fighting dragons and those "GODS" that always seem to die faster than mortals. ill give the gods one thing They sure are tough and any one that says thay can solo them " there A DAMN LIAR".
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 18 2001 at 6:21 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) WHY do they have classes listed that can never come from the races listed on this thing..
RE: classes
# Oct 19 2001 at 12:04 AM Rating: Default
I believe the classes Uurrsonn is trying to point out are Bard and Ranger...we know that none of the other races besides the Vah'Shir can be these....so...this could lead to speculation...heh.
Class Combos
# Oct 22 2001 at 10:02 AM Rating: Default
You could speculate on Vah Shir Rangers but you'd probably be wrong.

Its most likely the same situation that Verant has done before. Its an editing mistake. They make an item and default it to "All but INT Casters" and then edit the races and take out those that they don't want to use it.

What they forget to do is check the remaining Class/Race combos to take out any that don't still fit.

Vah Shir have been tentatively announced that they'll be able to be Warriors, Bards, Rogues, Shaman and Beastlords. While a Vah Shir Ranger would be cool, it's likely just a typo.
RE: Class Combos
# Apr 30 2002 at 8:49 AM Rating: Decent
Halflings can be Rangers now. So there is at least ONE race to go with the RNG tag.
RE: classes
# Oct 18 2001 at 6:34 PM Rating: Default
they dont
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 18 2001 at 10:00 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Ibian you ebayer (check his info heh) just because an item says a class/race can use it it doesn't mean there is such a combo. For instance have you ever seen a dwf sk/dwf bard/dwf druid? No didn't think so
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 18 2001 at 10:27 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Perhaps you are the EBayer - he said that combos on the item exist - not that they all exist you imbicile. That is the race listed will have one or more of the classes listed - NOT all of them...
RE: classes
# Oct 18 2001 at 6:38 PM Rating: Default
Does this mean the Vah Shir will be rangers as well?
RE: classes
# Oct 18 2001 at 6:43 PM Rating: Default
Dunno but it would make sense. In any case, they get to be beastlords.
heh
# Oct 18 2001 at 4:36 PM Rating: Default
good resists anyway, but they could have atleast given +15 resist to all as they weigh that much :( take the weight for resist or find them somewhere else? hmm the choices
RE: heh
# Oct 18 2001 at 5:58 PM Rating: Decent
Yeah I don't think your gonna see many monks wearing this.
RE: heh
# Oct 19 2001 at 2:36 AM Rating: Excellent
They are heavy, indeed. But I would love to get one of these for my halfling druid. Great resistance gear and on a raid situation were those get in use I wouldn't bother to be a bit encumbered, hehe.

Ok...
# Oct 18 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
Can someone tell me a reason that humans cant wear this? Or any kind of elf for that matter?
RE: my idea
# Oct 18 2001 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
The only thing I can think of is that its for the "deformed" races of the gameworld. Not that I have any clue why they'd do this but its just a thought.
RE: Ok...

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=1069

That is why. Races that can use this are just the races that can't use Imbued Granite Spaulders. Not sure why they did that but being a halfling I can't complain.

You might be technically correct on the races, but the race/class combinations do not balance out that way. For example, there are no Wood Elf Druids on either list, although there are elves on the Imbued Granite, and Druids on the hardened bone. There may be other combinations, but that one strikes home to me.
