my thoughts...

hmmm....jsut a little though...1. why are you all saying the same thing like it something new...(yes.. it's been decided that bash kick BS and all the other aabilities share the same timer...and yes haste boost the repop rate...) 2. why do you want a faster weapon for a rogue?...faster weapon=more aggro=less BS......delay isn't important for rogues... damage however is a big deal...a 14 damage poker is awesome...and i can only think of a few weapons with better damage for a rogue then this... and only 1 of them is not no drop...

well i'm done... have a nice day...
Best Combo?
# Dec 05 2002 at 10:02 AM Rating: Default
I am a lvl 35 rogue and have a few good peircers to choose a good combination from. Im not sure what would be the best combination so if any of you could help that would be greatly appreciated. I currently own these:

Blood Point
Hardened Bone Spear
Locustlure
Jagged Ice Shard
Rabid Chokidai Fang

Being lvl 35 none of them proc yet. I like the Fang in primary for BS, max is 278. Is there any other peircer I could buy that would give me a more effective combo than any of these could? Once again any input would be greatly appreciated.
RE: Best Combo?

Fungusbeast spine... 13dmg + 2 disease dmg

or just the well known Shaded Dagger.

Both good main hand piercers.

Nargroth Valma'Xukuth
49th Necromancer

... and a queue of other 40-60 chars.

What is your STR and Backstab skill for you to BS for 278 at level 35? I'm 38 and haven't yet gone over 200. Am I gimpy or do you know something I don't?
RE: Best Combo?
# Feb 04 2003 at 10:59 PM Rating: Decent
at 35 it my str was over 200 and my BS skill was maxxed I believe. Now Im 40 with 215 str and my high BS is 325.
High level noobs
# Oct 06 2002 at 9:34 PM Rating: Default
At first I thought this weapon was good, now I know that it is good...at sucking.

First off, the proc on this weapon is a MAJOR taunt, and goes off all the time with a dex of 132. I was using dual blood points when I foolishly acquired this PoS. I had never gotten aggro from even 4 consecutive siphon procs, but this thing was a death sentence. And the proc also does another terrible thing besides getting YOU killed, it kills your group too by making mobs unable to mez. So if you ever have to switch targets, which happens a lot more than I thought would, well the enchanter wastes their mana on the mob trying to mez it, and then other stuff breaks mez and you all die (true story)

Plus, the extra backstab damage does not make up for the extra damage you would be doing with a fast mainhand weapon.

My advice...stick with a blood point or get ragebringer or a flaming dirk if you want real backstab damage. I almost felt sorry for the guy I traded it to.

Also, I was just curious, would shadow heart (11 17 piercer) and longsword of freedom (20 29 slasher) and renard's belt of quickness (name is something like that, 40 percent haste belt from PoA) be better than epic?

Are you kidding me? Any 14 damage piercer is great!!! Also, if you only have 132 dex, dont spend your money on this, buy some nice rings

undervalued and underused
# Sep 10 2002 at 1:43 PM Rating: Decent
Awesome weapon. Noobish? Whatever. I BSed for a personal record 404 with it last night in Fungus Grove (52 Rake) and when I'm mainhanding it, the proc is going off quite a bit, essentially DoTing the mob for the length of the fight (38 damage per tick). Proc is huge aggro :( (was stealing aggro from an epic 60 Ranger). Graphic on proc is badarse, like a fear spell, only the green skulls are HUGE! Considering Stone Bladed Stilettos are 14 28 +10 Dex +10 Agi and go for around 10K, I'd say this weapon is undervalued and underused.

I don't know why anyone would say this is a noob weapon. I am trying to get one of these for my lvl 40 rogue right now. Currently he has a 13dmg 27dly Grimmling minning pick. I have had that since lvl 20. its 14dmg and with a base str of say 150 you would be doing a back stab of around 300 assuming your backstab was up to 190. Plus you get a very very nice proc which at lvl 40 I would be doing a 37 dd and then a 140 DOT. Noobness I think not.

Then again I don't twink my toons. So If you do and are thinking in that aspect yeah, you should have a better weapon that this for an alt Rogue that is lvl 40. Oh well thats just my 2cc take it or leave it.

Through a piano down a mine shaft and i'll show you "A Flat Minor"

ok i must end the debate about the usfullness of this wpn for a bard, first off bards get much MUCH better wpns with UBER ratios that if monks could use it would toataly unbalance the hell out of the melee world, this for a bard is trash, bottom line, why would a bard need this being that the best damage output rogues will get on a wpn is 14 damage the dly doesnt matter for a rogue cuz its all about the BS. id throw a fuggin fit if a bard looted this... oh and btw, does a bard typicly use poison for there attacks?... nuf said...

In grimling forest on the third "triggered" grimling raid the officer dropped an item called a Bloody Stone Dirk dmg 9 dly 27 effect Inject Poison I - 38 HP DD and 30 sec 190 HP DOT.

Magic - Lore and unlike this, my 51 ranger can use it lol.

Anyway, it is a pretty rare drop, we have done that quest about 4 times and never seen the thing drop again. However, if you are looking for a weapon that procs this effect, the 3rd quest may be easier to do, though the weapon is not nearly as powerfull.

This thing procs at 49. I got it when I was level 48 and my will wasn't strong enough then, but as soon as I hit 49 it started going of very often. I really like it, but you can create some nasty aggro with it so be careful.
RE: Proc level
# Dec 21 2002 at 1:43 PM Rating: Decent
Thanks knowing proc level is rather helpful. Picked this weapon up in my early 30 levels and hoped to see it proc at 45, but was disappointed. Still has proc-ed at 47 and was starting to get rather impatient. I guess i can wait til 49.
Proc Level???

OMG! Who cares?!?! Everyone has their own opinions on everything, lets not go there! This page is talking about this weapon, not about whether haste makes backstabs pop up faster!! =P

What level does this weapon proc?
Have looked through all the arguments about the backstab timer etc! and not one mention of what level it procs.
what's with all the bitching?
# Nov 19 2001 at 12:59 AM Rating: Default
I don't know of many daggers/piercers with a higher damage than this... While yes, it's slow, in the hands of a rogue it's not necessarily a bad thing. Slow weapon = less taunt, high damage = damn good backstabs... Only piercing weapon I can think of offhand that's better than this is the rogue's epic. Maybe people are just complaining that it's not as good as their epics, but that's just silly.

Also... with higher level haste buffs and a dragon haste item, a low-delay weapon will be capped at 10 delay anyway.

Ratio isn't bad for a bard, since most bards are under some form of haste 90% of the time they fight bards are usually better off with slightly higher delay and damage weapons since haste effects ar more noticable on weapons with higher delays (ie 20 delay weapon with 50% haste becomes 15 while 40 delay with 50% haste becomes 30.) Rogues as well would do good with a higher damage and delay weapon as the fewer hits for more damage would come out to less aggro than a similar weapon of lower delay and damage.

Also to dispell the myth, haste effects backstab, kick, slam, bash and monk special attacks (they are all on the same timer anyhow.) If you doubt it then watch how your favorite melee class can usually kick or bash or BS at the same rate as they can <evade/taunt/beg> but once haste is added in your keyed attack will start to recycle faster than other skills like taunt or hide.

And last, anyone who takes a look at weapons based simply on the damage divided by delay should come see me to sell off their bad "ratio" weapons. There are too many things to consider for damage over time like haste used, strength bonus or level bonus (or cap) to judge all weapons by this value alone. Besides, how can you call one weapon good for all classes or races.

Okay, first of all I need to complain about the weight of this item. Now I need to complain that its kind of slow. And its not the best ratio for a bard, although its decent.
There, now that I've gotten that off my chest, let me just say...holy crap! This is a killer BSer. Still, theoretically any rogue that might actually loot this sticker in Chardok might not get too excited about it. The rogue epic is far too easy to get and if any rogue is in Chardok and looting items like this, theres a pretty good chance he's either got his epic or will have it soon. Thats not to say that this is a throw-away item by any stretch. And it makes a neato offhand. If a rogue didn't want it, a bard would - I guarantee you. I can't even say how many 50+ bards I've seen running around with a Sionache's Partisan in their main hand. At a very lightweight 9/19, the partisan is nice, but inquire to any 50+ bard about theirs and you'll get a grimace. At 50+ a bard has their sights set on something greater.
You twinking the bean curd out of your baby bard and want a recommendation for a very nice weapon? Defiance. Get your bard Defiance and you'll still be weilding it in your offhand when you get your epic. Don't know why I had to throw that in, but I had a hankering.
RE: Chokilate Fang
# Nov 30 2001 at 12:30 AM Rating: Default
In my opinion a BoH in primary and the bard epic in offhand would be a better combination than epic/defiance, being able to twist another song is far more important than the stats given by defiance. just an imo

As a 53 bard I can agree with what your saying here, Jack. I dropped my partisan a while ago at around 48, and ended up with a green jade axe (17/34) and a crystaline short sword (12/24). The -15 sta on the axe mean a net loss of 23 hp @ 50 btw.

I've since gone past those and have a Saldaren Spear (11/21) and a Winters Fury (13/23) for my 2 weapons. Those will stay together until I get an epic class weapon. Both dropped in Skyshrine, so I killed my dragon faction getting them but that can be repaired, given sufficient time.

I do however get items that are better than my level - I am not a big leveller, prefering to stay around 52 for dragon raids (white/red scale for epic) as my guild will never kill Gorenaire.

Something like this weapon though seems designed for a high 40's bard, which ties in with the level range for Chardok. Not to say a rogue wouldnt use it but as others have said, it's kinda slow to be used as a main for a rogue.

The proc is nice as well, being a 38 pt DD and 190/5 DoT, which ties in well with other bard dot's.

Just my thoughts.

Haste does affect BS
# Oct 23 2001 at 9:46 AM Rating: Default
Haste does affect BS greatly. Perhaps you should not speak on subjects you don't know. With AQ, I can BS approx every 4 seconds or so.

And back to topic.. Somthing to consider as a Rogue... Perhaps high delays with low dmg/delay raito's is preferable.
- Less hits = less agro = more Backstabs.
- Less hits with off-hand but more damage on the hits = same damage (in theory).
- Less agro = more backstabs = more damage.

I have always used high delay weapons (currently using a RB and either a LL (8/17) or BP (10/21)) but my RB and a Rabid Chokidai Fang might be a nice combo to try out.
#Anonymous, Posted: Oct 21 2001 at 2:34 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) No, sorry. Haste DOES not make Backstab re pop faster. That would make Rogues the most powerful class in the game, think about it. Backstab outdamages any other melee hit (excluding disciplines). If haste increased the re pop time, everybody would be a rogue. A 60 Rogue would demolish any other class. Backstab will have 11 second re pop (I THINK) every time it's used, no matter what.
RE: Haste
# Aug 03 2002 at 12:39 PM Rating: Decent
I'm afraid it does smart guy.
Before telling people it doesn't, try doing it yourself. If you still come up with that response, then you have some issues with time/counting. Haste DOES effect recycle time of BS.

I don't understand why this is even an arguement.. This isn't rocket science here, its simply a matter of getting a high lvl chanter haste buff, hitting backstab and counting til it pops up again. Instead of 8 seconds you get 5-7 seconds depending on the %.. Once again NOT rocket science.
RE: Haste
# Feb 03 2002 at 5:02 AM Rating: Default
nods is right, and backstab, kick, taunt, monk attacks, slam, bash, etc.. all have the same refresh time(w/out haste of course) of 8 seconds, not 11
RE: Haste
# Feb 03 2002 at 5:03 AM Rating: Default
not 39 anymore :p 45 now (and no 45 isnt as bad as everyone says)
RE: Haste
# Oct 23 2001 at 7:46 PM Rating: Good
Ok, I'm going to be nice here. You're misinformed friend. Haste definitely does make bs repop faster. Rogues do, by far, the most damage over time. More than any other class, which is why on a raid the group with the highest level/best equipped rogue usually gets the most kills. They're a difficult class to play though since they never get the ac of a tank, get lots of aggro and don't cast at all. They also always need to always group with a good taunting tank and they're best with a class that can haste (enchanter/shaman). Add the fact that they need a good piercer to be really effective and you'll start to see why some people shy away from them. Hope that helps you.

THe point of this is the BACKSTAB. Since all backstab respawn buttons are the same, then the only thing that matters about this is if you have haste or not. Personally, I'd use this 40+ for Rogues. The only thing that could compare would be a Small Dragonbone Shard, that could be bought and not for too much. (13 26) So really, it depends on your regular speed. Btw, to the guy that says there are cheaper weapons that are actually 1hb 1hs, we're talking about Rogues and Bards here. MoSS is for SKs, and Trak Tooth is camped often and very easy to get. SoSF is 10 22 btw. Jagged Ice Shard is used for backstabbing, it is worth more because it was uncovered before the rest of these weapons. THe prices are dropped, I'm sure of it on everybodys server

# Oct 16 2001 at 7:55 PM Rating: Default
Hi I have a lvl 28 Bard and just recently started a rogue currently lvl 13, and one thing Ive learned from Bard twisting is how to slide instruments in and out of the secondary/primary slot to the inventory slots for full song dmg. Call me twist happy, but I have started doing that with my rogues piercers. I BS with my high delay bigger dmg wep, and then switch it over to a lower dmg faster delay one until the button pops, and when it does i switch it back. (all done from the primary screen using hot keys) rinse and repeat. In the case of the weapon listed above since id only be using for BS ONLY there would be theoretically zero delay. So far this seems effective but I am still a lowbie rogue so forgive me if this is old news or just plain retarted. Thank you :)

Get a nice haste item, and it wouldnt be slow, hell 29 delay isnt all that slow anyway, but add an FBSS or higher, and it would be an awesome weapon to have.
