proc?
# Apr 30 2004 at 7:23 AM Rating: Default
you try to hit a mob but miss
you summon some water instead

proc = auto spell when you swing
this is a triggered effect that you have to click (or hotbutton), doesnt go off when you swing.

You're right, but I think someone may get confused the way youre saying it.

"Procs" as you refer to them are actually effects. Effects usually have one of three triggers:

1. Triggered randomly during combat.
2. Trigged by right clicking the item.
3. Trigged upon equip, and stays until unequipped.

Additionally, right-clicking has two sub-categories:

2a. Can be clicked from a slot in inventory.
2b. Must be clicked while being worn.

Hope that helps someone.

I dont know if I just got lucky but I got this earring for like 4 pp and i'm only a lvl 7 mag, so i suppose i'll have to wait for the magic. Do items like this show up cheaply very often?
Confirmation, lvl 44

Just dinged 44 and this ear just started working, kinda sad it takes SOOO long to work, but hey, it's a nice ear on it's own and on fennin ro it can be had pretty cheep, think of it as stats and when you get 44 no more meming everfount... or just get a hoop of the magi`tok if ya want, I don't care, they're your earholes!
Insufficient Level to use this item?

My 25th level mage just got this fine ring. Can't wait to find out what level I can actually USE it! Seems at 25th I'm not high enough level to cast a 24th level spell. Anyone happen to know WHEN I will be able to?

Mages do get groups
# Apr 10 2002 at 7:29 PM Rating: Default
You just gotta be patient and the certain peeps who do understand a mages power do invite you to groups. I just dinged 55 and with the new focus items plus coth i do get asked to do a lot of things. One clue for mages is you might wanna think about having dragon faction early on cause you will destroy it laer but if you are in good with dragons you will get MANY offers to coth guilds in TOV . already gotten 5 offers to do it but since i'm on giant faction i'm outta luck. Not many are on dragon faction but if you are then things will get a lot better for you. And if you can't get a group no biggie theres lots of places you can solo at and i have yet to find a level where i can't go solo and get decent exp. lvl 49-51 though go to oot and don't go anywhere else. Best exp i've gotten so far and made some ok coin in the process. good luck and yes i represent sol ro also. oh yeah i got the earring off this guy other night. It's handy to have when those "tanks" that don't want you in group sure change their tone when they outta supplies.

I agree with all this effect is a joke, but asside from that the stats would look really great in my 28 mage. especially when i do max out my int..
On the mage inportance subject. I more ot less wanted to represent the mages of sol ro and say all of your twinked out melee classes are missing out on a key figure of any group...Its not that i suck of have no skill but i have sat for up to 30 min looking for a group in the likes of FM,loio, and oasis, at 24 i could dd on average 161 per spell where as most non twinked melee's could hit for maby 25-30 and landing maby 2 every 4 times..lets see in that span of time lets just say 3 attempts and u did hit every time and i used my bolt of flame spell thats 90 damage caused by you (if u connect all three times-what your gonna loose for hp..putting strain on healers mana) and i cast 3 spells lets say 1 gets resisted cus it can happen thsts still and the recast dd is less at about 75.....humm 161+75 thats 236 no damage to me cus my pet is tanking and the only mana used is my own...and the clerics have plenty to save your butts from dying...so all you melee classes on sol ro when u see a mage lfg hook him him up it will be the smartest move u ever made...dont be jellous cus our epic is the balls and once we do get it we cant be beat.

My druid is equipped with 2 25hp/35mana rings, just like this item, but without the effect.
I love those earrings. When you are maxed out on wisdom, mana is the next best thing. Plus 50 hp is good too.
Now, I paid a bundle to get those earrings for my druid. Why? Because everyone can wear them.
This earring? I bought for 400pp, because it was mage only, and no one wanted it.
Fits nicely on my 8 mage.
Granted, he is not maxed out in int, but still, at level 8, 35 mana is really nice, and hp at that level can save you

Overall, I cant see why people dont look past the effect attached to an item.
For this item, any mage that has maxed int, and wants more mana, should look at this item.
Hell, I would have bought it if it had a level 1 spell attached to it.

Hello. Actualy, aside from getting a Druid's WIS to 200 next is AC, then Saves, then Mana. Small little mana plusers don't really help that much in the long run. But when you're getting whailed on and getting casted on in ToV, Kael, Velk's..wherever, AC and Saves are VERY important. Blue Diamond jewlery is best for rings/earrings after 200WIS.
RE: Nice stats IMHO
# Nov 09 2001 at 9:37 AM Rating: Default
Well, until some of us poorer people can eventually afford that BD jewelry, mana and wis is all we have.

I would love to get BD items, but the going rates of that stuff is currently well beyond my means.

Now, maybe I have not played the game enough yet, so correct me if I am wrong:
I understand resists are key to higher level areas where magic is used.
However, if a druid is going to get pounded on, in say, Kael, is an extra 20ac going to save your life? I really dont think so. We were not made to take hits like that. What saves me are buffs, and regens.
20ac will save you, what, like maybe 5-10hp per hit? so if they are hitting for 150hp, now they are hitting for 140hp, but a druid will still drop like a rag doll.
I know...my best friend has a 51 druid, and his ac is like 120higher, but he still gets pummeled like I do if I get hit.
So in my experience..save the ac for the tanks, and give the druids either saves, or mana (it really depends on where you fight too- if you are fighting non-casters, no reason to have resists up)..........
Just my opinion....

This seems to have turned into a disscusion about druid AC. i gotta say i think thats a waste of time myself cos your never gunna get it up to the levels which will save you. i have a paladin and i probs have way more AC then you druids are ever gunna have and i still get beaten to hell.
Better than AC i would say would be AGI increase that and you increase your chances of dodging the blow altogether. (Turn on your and others misses and you'll see what i mean. about 50% of my melee misses are due to mob dodges not to my bad weapon skills and have you ever tried hitting a monk?)
Personally, i would prefer my back row to have mana and mana regen. Think about it, so you have a mob beating on you and your praying for a heal but your dont get one.. why? Cos your cleric favoured AC over mana
Anyway, if a mob ever breaks away from melee it will probably get one attack on you due to spell cast times after that it is probably stunned once if not twice (by 2 people) and rooted from the group reaction to it breaking melee and going after the back row.
If your thinking of a raid setting then AC still isnt gunna save you but resists are certainly important (AoE attacks)
Now having said all that theres nothing wrong with AC heck the more AC the better it just shouldnt be something you are working on increasing cos there are more important things..
RE: Nice stats IMHO
# Nov 10 2001 at 4:23 PM Rating: Default
I can say that while I prefer wis/mana/resists over AC with my druid, AC is pretty nice to have if you can. Obviously. You won't "save 5-10hp per hit", as you said. You simply won't get hit, every once in a while. Snare, for exemple, is aggroing a lot so sometimes you cast it too early and get aggroed on. Or healing.. It's pretty nice when you see the mob hitting you for 165, then missing you. Gives your group time to get you out of trouble. I try to maintain a ratio between "pure wis/mana gear" and AC gear so I can live _at least_ 3-4 rounds..

Effect: Everfount
Type: Triggered
Charges: Unlimited

Right-clickable effects are considered "Triggered"
Whereas procs would be listed as "Random" effects.

Also, class specific items usually cannot be used by other classes (effect-wise). Only those items which can be right-clicked from the general inventory slot can be used by any class. I'm pretty sure this earring has to be worn for the effect, which would make it mage only.

Hope that clears it up :)

Actually there is a item that has Summon Bandages on it...just happens to be a proc instead of a right-click effect and it isn't Mage only.
How many SoL items do you think will have Reclaim Energy? I'm looking forward to it! <sigh>
Honestly a good right-click item would be a Renew Summoning that can be used only ever 1 minute or so. This way we could cast Renew Summoning and at key moments right-click one. Brell knows that spell become mostly useless after lvl 39ish.
Summoning
# Oct 11 2001 at 7:26 PM Rating: Decent
This has been a sore spot for myself and many mages. Of all the things that we (magicians) can summon..how many other players actually need them? Sure rangers love the endless arrow supply and races that can't see in the dark well need coldstones. Other classes seem to have things to offer that put us magi on page 95 of the spell book. Although we can bring some good things to a group, our summoning (pets aside) is more like a novelty. Might as well give me a crank box and monkey on a string. With SoL the spells previewed appear to allow magi to summon wearable armor. This is a step in the right direction. Something people might really want. Aside from necros that want 2 swords for their pets. 7\27 swords aren't that bad though can't complain there. Staves though, I need a whole other board to post on that one. How bout that staff of tracing ladies and gentle man..I know we can't summon really great things that have insane ratios that would unbalance things. As much as I whine I really enjoy my mage and hope other people start playing them more effectively to show how useful we can be. Oh yeah nice earring. At least you'll never go thirsty? See good in bad I like!

Everybody's griping about waah, bad effect, or batskulls are better, or whatever.

If your int is already 200 or higher, then you're looking for +mana gear. This is better than either of the black sapphire options for +hp +mana earrings, as it has the AC and hp of the electrum setup but the mana of the gold earring.

This will benefit you if you've been making smart item choices elsewhere in your gear setup, or will enable upgrades in other slots.
#REDACTED, Posted: Oct 12 2001 at 8:27 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Yes, the stats are nice. But the effect is an insult.
RE: This earring isn't bad at all

Right! Its an insult! It should have no effect at all!

What the hell, people? Why is anything not incredibly useful an "insult." If you feel so insulted, why play the game?
RE: This earring isn't bad at all
# Oct 24 2001 at 2:45 PM Rating: Default
It's an insult because the other earrings have USEFUL EFFECTS.

Earring of Twisted Leaves, effect: Scale of Wolf
Earring of Purity, effect: Counteract Disease
Earring of Blazing Energy, effect: Feedback
Earring of Woven Bark, effect: Snare

Earrings: useful, to some degree. Mage earring: USELESS.

Do your research, Kione. Mages are pissed. But then, you don't play one.

Actually, there are at least 2 items/spells that summon beer. One is one of the "X symbol of Brell"
and its effect summons REALLY STRONG beer, and there is the Mage spell Bristlebane's Bundle which summons a stack of cake and a stack of ale. (not sure, but I think it may summon something else as well.)

# Oct 11 2001 at 3:38 PM Rating: Default
Yet another insult to mages. Everfount, a spell NEVER used by anyone able to hunt in Chardok, as GoX is so much better. While VI continues to give away all of our summonings by placing them on weapons/items for OTHER classes to use, they give us our own spells back at us, spells we never even use anymore.

Yet ANOTHER proc to replace an otherwise unused spell in our reportoir. Any chance we could get something usefull?

Seriously, as a 46 mage I use Everfont only once per session MAX. Then it is only at the begining of the session to have drink if I am otherwise out. Combine the mana cost or this, Cornucopia, and coldstone, and you take like a quarter bubble of Mana that is recovered by the time I even BEGIN to look at using mana for something else.

Just think that for being a 50+ zone they could come up with something different... heck, summoning arrows or something of that nature would be better just so I could do it without swapping slots in mid fight... but a stack of water just seems like an insult.

RE: Yippie!
# Oct 11 2001 at 6:37 PM Rating: Decent
I assume this is sarcasm.

If not, mages get screwed time after time with effects on items. We have several with recalim energy, several with summon bandages and now crap like this.

If it wasn't for the various pets (but more like one as with the necro) there wouldn't be a single mage left. The uber-armor is only nice for the stats but every class gets that.
The mid-level quest-armor is simply crap (yay, invis vs animals and eye of zomm and reclaim energy on all focus items).

This new item proves the statement that Verant doesn't like mages. In fact, making a pet-melee class will only reduce the uniqueness of mages and probably decimate the numbers of our class more then any other when the beastmasters are settled in after the initial rush.

The effect is
Everfount
lvl 24 mage spell
summons a stack of water

Replaced by Gift of Xev around the levels when you actually can get this earring. And every sensible mage should use bat skull earrings or better around that level anyway.

At least you can sell it or give to newbie mages as a special class-specific item.
