If somehow able to attain these today in EQ my Monk would still be gracious as all get out. Granted, the actual stats are not the end all compared to today's loots, but the ratio is still decent & the effect would be wonderful for my Monk. Would i use these just for the proc. if i had a better weapon absolutely, but i wouldn't mind one bit using them for my actual weapon either. i not sure however is this version even still drops or another version with or without the Avatar, but the effect is what makes them splendid.
weight limits
# Aug 28 2003 at 6:42 PM Rating: Default
I play a lvl 44 bst and I have seen only a small portion of the game thus far but I do know that weight slows down ANY character even if it is to a minute degree. Monks aren't the only ones to benefit from a near 0 weight item. My little kitty bst is much faster when carrying next to nothing but my biggest problem is that I group or solo in areas no where near a bank or a vendor so my weight goes insane high. I offset this by using the best damage/delay weapons I can get my hands on even if I have to spend a little bit of pp in the bazaar. Low weight weapons are a benefit to ALL classes not just monks.

Actualy your wrong weight has no effect on your speed till you become encombered
RE: weight limits
# May 25 2004 at 11:14 AM Rating: Decent
Heavier weapons caused a larger drop in your stamina with each swing. If you ever tried using a heavy weapon with a very fast haste and watched your stamina when compared to the same speed weapon at a lighter weight, you would have seen this.

In other words:
weapon 1:
weight 10, delay 20 caused X stamina loss
weapon 2:
weight 5, delay 20 caused X/2 stamina loss
(The actual formula might not be this precise, but there was definitely a difference that I easily observed on my warrior.)

And when your stamina bottomed out, your damage output slowed a lot, which is why they put spells in the game to bring your stamina back up. Personally, I just switched to lighter weapons.

I say all of this to point out that low weight weapons are desirable to ALL melee, not just monks.

Now that they have added a new stat to the mix, I'm not sure how it has affected all of this. Supposedly, there is no longer a dependance on stamina. Does anyone know for certain how the new stats are working?

Regarding monk epic

Monk epic is a pair of gloves that makes each of a monk's fists (assuming there is no weapon in that slot) into a 9/16 weapon. The monk epic can also be clicked to create the "Celestial Fists" effect, which enhances a few stats and gives about a 40% bard song haste. Because the CF effect does more things than just haste, it APPEARS to stack with all spell and song hastes, but the haste part of the effect does not actually stack. The only reason the CF icon remains on the screen is because of the other stuff besides haste included in the CF effect. I wish the haste stacked with all other hastes. I play a level 57 epic monk. Even without all of this, the monk epic has some mighty fine stats for a pair of gloves.

I have met some fairly high level people that actually think that the monk epic is item haste, when it is in fact song/spell haste.

Primal and priceless items are hard to get because they require you to have a key to Sleeper's Tomb. The actual combat required to get the items (which are somewhat rare) is not that difficult and only takes one or two groups. The bottlenecks for getting these items is (A) getting an ST key, and (B) getting one of these rare items to drop off one of the monsters in ST.

At the higher end of the game, many people wield a primal weapon until it procs and then switch to a weapon with a better ratio. The avatar proc lasts several minutes if I recall correctly. When it wears off, they re-equip it until it procs and then put it back up. If you dis-regard the avatar effect, primal weapons are NOT the very best in the game (since Luclin came out), although they are close.

Theories about haste abound. Some theorize that there is not a haste cap, but that as you approach the highest haste that can currently be achieved in the game, you approach a point of diminishing returns. This theory is supposedly supported mathematically. The minimum delay that some parsing programs report is supposedly an short-coming of the program and/or the log itself.

# Jul 28 2002 at 1:40 AM Rating: Default
Sorry dude, but you are ...

a) clueless
b) clueless
c) clueless

This item is done through the completion of a very simple quest.

First, you need a primal velium battlehammer. It drops off the warders in ST (if you haven't awakened The Sleeper) or it drops off the Named mobs like MotG, FA and The Progenitor (if The Sleeper has been awakened).

Once you have the 1hb Primal Velium Battlehammer, you trade it into the Dwarf Trader who then gives you back a set of the Primal Velium Fistwraps.

Of course, you need a ST key for this, and you probably need a small gang of friends, all of whom Also need ST keys... the Nameds like to smack people around alot, so they all better be very high level and have very good gear.

The stats are correct. I suspect Verant just pasted them from one primal item to another and modified the Damage/Delay, thus the + mana.

I personally know *lots* of monks who have this item.

As a level 31 Necro, I wouldn't expect you to know every monk item that drops in the game... so, perhaps you should check your facts a little better. Or even better, talk to some high level monks instead of just assuming that an item is a fake.

.. not sure which rock you've been living under, but yes, this is real. Tons of monks have it, especialy on servers where the warders are still present. Many bag it and only take it out for the proc, though. There are numerous better weapons out there. It's the result of a quest (hand in 1HB primal to dorf in EW at the ST entrance). Primals drop off names in ST.

how to get
# Jun 11 2002 at 4:30 PM Rating: Decent
I'm not a monk, to say upfront, but I believe the way to get these is from Soandso(I forget his exact name) the trader in EW. He is willing to trade primal velium fistwraps for primal velium battle hammer. This might have already been said somewhere(I didn't read it all), but seeing as how the top post was asking how to get them, I figured I'd just say.. It says it's off creatures, might be too.. only way I saw was the trader dude though. No flaming if I'm wrong please... =OO

Alright heretics, now before you go off on the tangent about how you know soooo much about the Monk epic, it's time for a moment of clarification. It has been made public after the development of the Monk epic (and is generally a well known fact) that the Monk epic is the lowest delay weapon currently available. And before the spark goes off in your feeble mind about how 'there used to be a weapon with an even lower delay!' I did say CURRENTLY available, so please take a pill, not the square blue one either. The epic is NOT just a pair of gloves, it changes the damage/delay ratio of the Monk's fists to 9/16 and with maximum haste (follow the links in the prior post, to both Bodi's site and to Thott's haste explanation) that number becomes 9/9. Now all things considered, these weapons are unbelievably sweet, yes, (and props to the fellow that pointed out the superiority of Gharn's Rock of Smashing to the FoL) it's a damage dealer from way back but don't rule out the epic as being some sort of inferior set of hand covers.

Moreover, what the heck is wrong with you Monks? You start whining about aggro and taking damage and pretty soon every body assimilates the idea that we're sissies. www.afterlifeguild.org look up their members and check out Denzalo. Now Denzalo is the exception, he's an amazingly exceptional Monk but his HP's/AC also SHAME that of many of the most 'uber' warriors anywhere on any server. Monks aren't a bunch of cake boys that can't take a punch in the high end game, in fact they can and often will outlast Warriors when they're both decked out in the greatest gear.

Also, quit chapping me off over this weight thing. Yes, we've got weight limitations but when you reach a high enough level and understand enough about our equipment you get tired of seeing everyone hammering on how we wouldn't want/shouldn't have such and such item because it has weight to it. It's so disturbing to me that I had to take the time to create an account here just to post on it. If you don't know anymore about Monks than this, I suggest you actually try playing one, A. it's alot of fun, B. it might dispell alot of these bogus myths floating around.

No, we don't suck at dealing damage. Yes, we ARE made to take a hit with the right gear and NO, we don't believe everything is a Monk item, we're often just so excited to see an impressive item with low weight that's Monk useable that we like to make it known we should be seriously considered as a candidate for the item. We're not trying to short anyone, but it took awhile for Monks to get more gear-oriented recognition from the good folks at VI. Albeit, with items like this, I don't see too many more complaints about a lack of Monk gear around the bend.

/rant off
/em is so touched by the beauty of his post that he just might need a cigarette
RE: ...
# Jul 16 2002 at 2:36 PM Rating: Decent
You are incorrect on a couple of points as somebody else has already started to point out. The monk epic isn't the lowest delayed weapon currently available.

First, there's revultant whip, moss covered twig (it's not no drop and many servers still have a few floating around, so it IS avaialable if you can find one, just like anything else), and even that whip off the Glyphed serpent in Ssra, which also has a delay of 16, which means that the monk epic is not the lowest delay weapon currently available.

Second, max haste for monks/warriors/rogues is at least 100 percent. 100 percent haste means a 100 percent increase in attacks/damage output, which means you're swinging twice as much to achieve that, which means your delay is cut by... HALF. So max haste on monk epic fist is 9/8, not 9/9.

Maybe a spark will go off in your 'feeble mind' that every once in a while, even you are wrong :).
RE: ...
# Jul 12 2002 at 12:31 AM Rating: Decent
Hrm, well as far as I can tell, the Revultant Whip (ranger only 5/14 1hs) out of Plane of Hate, has always been in the game, and most certainly still is. Sure it's no where near the quality of the monk epic, but combined with Swiftwind haste, enchanter haste, or Swiftwind Haste and Dark Cloak of the Sky https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=6054) (right click song haste similiar to mokn epic but 50 percent) my math comes out at 5/7 which is damned fast.

Now this conjecture is purely based on what most of us consider common EQ knowledge. None of us really have seen the code (unless you decompiled it which is a violation of the EULA) and can only make conclusions based on reverse rationale or what VI offcially states.

On a side note, the cloak is very rare (about 15 on my server from what I understand). The monk epic by comparison is much more common. I'd take monk epic w/ fist over ranger with whip and Swiftwind anyday but I really don't have that option.

Luclin & H2H weapons
# Dec 11 2001 at 9:04 AM Rating: Default
With Luclin and the introduction of H2H weapons will they or have they already been changed from blunt to hand weapons? Hopefully VI won't totaly lose their minds, what little they have left, and change the CF's to a H2H weapon?

# Jul 16 2002 at 5:29 PM Rating: Decent
Dude, I checked your Magelo. And i have to say I am sorry. You need some gear bro. No lvl 55 should be wearing jagged bands and only have 15% haste.

had his epic too of course

to the previous poster talking about the epic and that other thing combining to make 80% hast...
Not possible sorry, +70% is the max haste, and yes even with that it would be better ratio than epic fists

epic fists are what, 9/11, 9/10?

these with 70% haste are..

15/12

so yes, much much better

Where do you get your numbers from? I'm not dismissing them I am just trying to find the correct information. The numbers I found differed from yours.

According to Bodi, monk equiped with epic at 85% haste is at 9/9.
http://www.monkly-business.com/articles.asp?ArticleId=1

According to Thott, haste cap is somewhere around 95-100%.
http://www.afterlifeguild.org/Thott/haste_stacking.html

Thanks to Bodi and Thott for taking the time to give everyone else this information.
RE: Yup
# Jan 14 2002 at 2:34 PM Rating: Excellent
Not sure what the haste cap is. However I know (have seen my lvl 56 monk friend show me the logs) that a weapon can't hit faster than 11 delay (or 1.1 seconds). So this weapon can easily out damage CF since they cap at 9/11 no matter how much higher you can get your haste.

Why I would wear these
# Oct 13 2001 at 5:47 PM Rating: Decent
Primal and Priceless fist wraps offer one thing the Primal and Pricless hammers don't... The Weight. Being a little lighter means we have more wt to mess around with other pieces armor. (24 wt is good, but that adds up quick when you got Dragonscale Boots, Dragonscale Mantle (2.5) Gaurdian Girdle (2.0) Coller of Storm (2.1) and other items that weigh around 1.0 wt (like tink bags) Added a couple of heavy Hammers and your struggling to keep yourself under 24 wt, these just make you a bit more flexable. Mana... who cares? Seen monks with Drawfslaying Belts on...

I know of one monk on our server who has both Primal and Priceless fistwraps... So keep dreamin, you may get them. The fact of the matter is after all the monks in your guild get these... the remainder that drop are just gonna rot or end up being dropped onto an NPC... hehe

argo.
# Oct 12 2001 at 5:06 PM Rating: Default
Ok quick question. Monks do heavy damage output that goes without saying. How on gods earth do you counter the argo from a weapon like this. If somebody has one please post how you stay alive. I find many of the methods that monks use to control argo need heavy work.
1. fd - yes it works kind of but not as great as people think. It takes time to fd (time you could be doing damage) so basically you just cut your damage output down heavly. Also past 30 mobs don't just forget about you so fd doesn't just clear your argo (most of the time) unless the warrior has done good damage while your down it will just jump you again as soon as you stand up.
2. pulling back - stepping back and letting the warrior build up taunt. Again you are bascially reducing your damage output. What's the point of having great damage output if you have to back off and get use it.

seriously looking for some help here so not to many flames please =)
RE: argo.
# Dec 03 2001 at 1:56 PM Rating: Default
Well, at the point that you get these you should be in groups with warriors who have their taunt skill maxed, and they should be chain taunting to keep them at the top of the agro list.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 06 2002 at 1:21 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) By the time a monk gets these, they will have better AC than most warriors on the server. They will also be primarily killing raid level mobs. And by the time you get to where you can kill the mobs that allow you to get to where you can get into ST, you will have learned a few things about aggro control. So basically, a monk using these would be doing incredible damage, and rarely will he get any aggro at all from it.
