what does it drop from and can i solo it?
# Mar 14 2004 at 1:10 PM Rating: Decent
Hi. There are a lot of posts here concerning several different issues. But not one mentions who it drops from in Chardok. Does anyone know or did everyone buy it? Just curious. Also, I'm a 61 shammy. My husband has a 65 warrior. Can we get it with just the two of us or do I need to enlist my guildies? Thanks.

Here's a weird one. Logged on today after patch and noticed that my fancy velvet mantle had just disappeared. Put in /petition, but have minimal expectations of a positive outcome. No didn't drop it, No didn't sell it, and No, not somewhere in my inventory. Was there last nite and activating while I was pulling...just not there this afternoon. I have little doubt the GM will give me the "tough sh*t" line. After all, I've only been playing this game for almost 4 years with like 2 petitions(both about malignant PC's), so I guess I'm a prime candidate for a scammer. Anyway, have no clue about this one.

I too lost this and petitioned. If they are going to radomly take or change items they should be replaced with simmular items. Doubt if verant/sony is that creative though.

i too lost this item and petitioned about it.. several hours later the GM ADMIN gave me a tell and told me this "the item was changed to no rent in the last patch. We dont know if they did this on purpose or in error. Currently we are not returning those items." "Perhaps you will need to keep an eye on the patch messages to see if they change it. And if they do petition for it." This is verbadm of what he said to me.. hope this helps and warns all of you.

Changed to no rent? Well, isn't that just special. Historically, when they change the status of something, they grandfather the items in play, like the circlet of Shadow, or the pre-bard/rogue only GoD. Talk about unbalancing the game. That means ANY item at ANY time can be made NO RENT. And they profess to want to stabilize the economy of this game? NOTHING is of any longterm value. Imagine if on a whim, for kicks, they just make the CoF, or RBG NO RENT after one patch. I spent quite a few pp in game for that item. What a GD cavalier response. I trully hope you just happened to run into one of those GMs who likes playing God and absolutely applying no logic to their capricious IDIOTIC responses. "Sorry Mr. Customer, we made the item you spent so much time obtaining absolutely f'ing worthless....and btw FU! ...and have a nice day". Yet another example of the inane concept of customer service and relations that Verant seems to have down to artform at times. What the hell are they thinking?
Rant over, I just hope your GM was shooting from the hip with a BS answer to shut your petition down and get back to his punchlist of other petitions. Good luck to everyone in retrieving their item. I'm sure I'll replace it with something-back to the spider camp in DL again, I guess.

Final follow-up on this saga. Apparently the change to NO RENT was not meant to happen and had my Fancy Velvet Mantle returned Saturday night 2/8. Took a while....but they came through. So this is still a viable item as of this writing.

The saga never ended for me. I Petitioned and got approval, sent in by GM Proops on BB, but never received my FVM back, even after several follow up inquires. I have bought over a half dozen since then for 300 to 500 and sold them for 1500 to 4500 to finance keeping a couple. I didn't generally believe in re-selling items for reasons such as IGA etc. but sometimes you feel you just have to get even for a wrong someway. Since then the deterioration of customer support along so many lines that once upon a time were enforced will let me sleep at night. Welcome to the dark side.

Great find

I was checking out the Bazaar today and I found this for sale for 100pp! One guy was selling it for 100pp while everyone else was selling it for 2000 to 3000pp. I got a great deal.

This works great for me. I am a 47th enchanter and now I can mezz farther away with the spell focus. The extra Mana works for me and it is a great item for a caster.

I can see some melee classes wanting this too, for the weight and extra mana and Dex. I think monks and paladins can use this as well for it has low weight and a great DEX bonus for a shoulder item. Paladins could use this as well for the extra mana and other good stats with the loss of some AC. Please do not flame me, it is just an opinion and besides I have great fire resists ;)

It all boils down to your playing style. It is great for me as an enchanter.

Check out the bazaar and before you buy something search for ALL of the same item, for you might find a great deal like I did. Sometimes people do not know exactly what they have. A beastlord friend of mine bought a spell there for 750 plat that he resold for over 50,000! I love the bazaar but hate the lag in there. The only place where everyone looks at the floor to make a deal with the merchants.. lol.. no eye contact there. Weird for a business deal.

Good for you! I found one of these for 500pp while twinking my ranger alt. I found several deals that night actually. Got an FBSS, a light velium bow, and all my weapons and stat gear for about 6K, and now have a dex of 240 unbuffed. Critting for 90's at level 18. Not a bad buying night :) The Range II on this is just a plus for me, I'm loving it for bow kiting with snare. :)

Dropped off Observer Aq'touz in a room with some stalactites, just past the bridge fort area and down a ramp into a two-section room... one section leads to the right and further down, the other section to the left has the observer/ph and one other spawn (think it was a nightfear).

Why would anyone aside from Int casters want this item? Every tank class has something better they should be wearing by the time you get this. To be honest it just sounds like people are way too greedy and just hoping to walk away with something if its usefull to them or not. If you didn't or can't do the coldain shawl quest there are few shoulder items you can get that are = to this for a pure caster. Not only does it free up a slot for a mana item it even has a nice bit of mana on it.

I would love to hear why this is usefull to any melee or for that matter a wis based caster. Even if 1sta = whatever Hp for a tank big deal, that Hp gain isnt worth jack and there are 500 other items with better stats for those players. Even if 9dex does help tailoring so what, is your trade more important than the people your hunting with? If its an upgrade for the your caster in your group let them have it stop acting like children with the well i could make it usefull because 9dex/5sta is good for my whatever...

Sk is the only valid melee class i could see this going to and not have a question about, it is geared towards them if anyone just low ac.
This all/all stuff on 3/4 of all the caster items in the "revamped" chardok just make problems. You have people who can actually use these items rolling against people who feel they should cause it says all/all. I guess we all should start rolling on items even if we dont need them, follow by example right?
thanks again VI....

Mob info: Drops off Overseer someone or other(maybe thats the ph name was a long night:P), he spawns in a cubby space along with 2 others both blue to lv53.
The overseer cons yellow to lv53, doesn't have extremely high resists. This mantle is his common, while the bracer of nasthar<sp> is his rare. Had about 3 or 4 mantles drop in a few hours and 1 bracer...

I'll tell you why this would be great for a melee class. I'de love this item for my paladin. Sure most paladins go for AC, but i would trade out my 11ac 5 stam shoulders for this. I need dex as a high elf paladin. This item offers ALOT of dex at only a low AC hit. I can **** off 5ac and make it up easier somewhere else. But to have 9 dex from a shoulder item is great. And mana at that. I believe its perfect for a Paladin. Although if i was in a group and it dropped i'de let the caster have it. I wouldn't even roll against him, unless either he had one already or didn't want it.

I choose this one over Fancy Velvet anyday...

Netted Kelp Amice
LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM
AC: +5 Str: +4 Sta: +4 Int: +3
Cha: -4 Fire Resist: +10
Weight: 0.3
Classes: All Classes
Races: All Races
Inventory Slot: Shoulder

Sells for about 400pp perhaps max... but at 1.2 stones less weight? and some significant SvF... it works for me until I get:

Wurm Scale Coat
LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM
AC: +8
Magic Resist: +10
Fire Resist: +20
Weight: 0.0
Classes: All Classes
Races: All Races
Inventory Slot: Shoulder
Effect: Improved Damage II
Type: focus type effect

but these are about 3k or you gotta loot em. Very nice lack of weight... very good saves and plain ol' AC.

Peace.

Drolvarg Mantle
MAGIC ITEM
AC: +7 Agi: +6 Fire Resist: +5
Weight: 1.5

runs about 50-100pp or you can group for it in KC as early as level 35 (maybe earlier, but that is when i went there)

he asked for an item BETTER than the fancy velvet mantle...
i'll give you the drovlarg mantle has 1 more ac, but 9dex and 5stam > 6agi by FAR, and if you argue the svf, just keep the drovlarg mantle in a backpack for Christ's sake.

I do support the argument that many people are often greedy WHILE knowing that the items really isn't better for them..... for example if i saw a breastplate with 100hp and no other stats I might think, "hey, if im being shot with a spell it wont matter what my ac and stats are (ignoring resist), so why don't I pick up this breastplate for whenever im specifically being shot from a spell but not being meleed so on and so on." If i really thought this, I might just roll on it not realizing that it may be WAY better for someone else. This mantle is INCREDIBLY nice for a caster and arguably decent(at best) for a melee. Sure for certain instances if you need dex for a trait, but for an overall always used items, it owns for casters, nuf said.
As for mantles that you can use.... giving and taking weight in some instances: engraved bone pauldrons, jade inlaid spaulders, acrylia reinforced mantle, mantle of absorbtion, acrylia studded mantle, quite a few others. Personally my monk is 50/50 decision on the engraved bone pauldrons (if he can afford weight) and Acrylia reinforced mantle which is geared more towards stamina/hp and less ac, it also is quite lighter at .3 weight.
This mantle does not excel in any particular stat for non-INT casters really, this mantle has no stand-out stats for melee. It has INT for a SK and DEX for a tailor, but is worthless other than that.HOWEVER, these shoulders ROCK for an INT caster due to the nice mana, high INT, and high DEX(depending on if you believe its important, no really clear test on this have shown it for a caster), the stamina is also great for necromantic health so they can use their conversion spells (ie: lich) to convert into mana.
Engraved bone pauldrons are achieved through a very easy 30 minute quest and run under 400pp generally, acrylia is harder to obtain because its new, but at 45 you could take down the mobs for the tailoring components easy and turn in the components to your local tailor and maybe suppliment them with some cash to create these nice shoulders for you.
I hope this info and my terrible english have helped some, I'd recommend looking for these mantles as they are all (minus jade/absorbtion) fairly easy to obtain.

Granted, it's hard for monks to find equip because of their weight limit. However, because of the stats this baby has it is one of, if not the, best DROPPABLE shoulder item in the game for int casters. Just something to keep in mind. Not flaming, but think about others who could use this before you demand a roll, particularly if you're hunting with a guild.

Perhaps you need to read the boards at www.eqtraders.com

You'll find that Tailoring DOES use Dex as a secondary stat. This was done for Monk Tailors, for the most part.

I've got two rangers on 2 servers, Sorronn, L54 on Povar, and Ithildin, L45 on Bristlebane, and I would not go near this item at the level needed to get it.

This looks like an int caster item to me. I can't see any hybrids wanting it (meditative blanket would be way better for an SK if they wanted it) and there are always Sentry Pauldrons or the Tattered Mantle off Gullerback, both of which are cheap and far superior to this for a melee class if you are concentrating on AC and stats/resists.

RE: Ranger
# Feb 23 2002 at 12:28 PM Rating: Decent
I'm a ranger too and i just won a pair tonight. They are good for rangers.

Not for everyday use but when you use trueshot dex makes a huge difference, and you need to have some dex gear. This not only give you dex but stamina too which is nice, so yes im a ranger, and yes i won em...no int casters were with us tho we only had one group, the day before they dropped and only int casters rolled cuz we had 3 or so there.

RE: Ranger

This is pretty weak for any ranger/SK at this level.
Hmmm...
# Oct 09 2001 at 7:45 PM Rating: Decent
Figure this'll end up being similar in price to Drolvarg Mantle? Perhaps bit more due to the caster int/mana part. But other'n that it's 1 AC less & no agi or sv fire, but same weight & a number of other stats. I know from Monk standpoint some would rather have the sta &/or dex combo over the agi & 1 ac so might be a viable alternative.

Um, actually, VI has only stated that Dex was used in Fletching. They've said that Strength is the secondary of Smithing. They've never announced anything for tailoring, jewelrycraft, pottery, baking, brewing, fishing, alchemy poison making or tinkering.

FYI: VI added STRENGTH to Smithing as a secondary stat because many melee classes that were smiths were having a difficult time because of their subpar INT/WIS. Because Skill ups depend on high INT/WIS (Whichever is higher), and most melee classes have low INT/WIS, they decided to add STR to that mix, making it INT/WIS/STR for smithing. It doesn't matter how high all three is, just your highest one.
For instance, if you have 100 INT, 76 WIS, and 214 STR, all rolls will be based on your strength, and will totally disregard your INT/WIS stats.
Same thing with DEX and Fletching. They added it for the same reason they added strength to the smithing tradeskill.

No other trades use alternatives to INT/WIS, and it all depneds on the highest Stat, not how high all three are.
RE: Int-class Tailors...
# Oct 10 2001 at 7:37 PM Rating: Decent
Um, actually...

Strength as a secondary skill does NOT take place of intel or wisdom. As specifically stated by VI, a higher secondary skill will add a bonus to the ability to gain skill points/ succede making items, but a lower secondary skill will NOT decrease a persons chances.

A secondary skill only adds bonuses, it does not become the basis for the chances. Go to EQTraders... learn it... live it... love it. Your chances are either your intel OR wisdom, whichever is higher, plus any bonuses from a secondary skill.

"....if you have 100 INT, 76 WIS, and 214 STR..." your chance to skill up is based off your 100 INT, and then modified upwards with a bonus for your strength... assuming you're smithing. VI has not said at which point bonuses start being added, but at 214 i'd imagine you'd be getting a decent bonus (i would hope, at least).

As for dex, originally it was said that Dex would be secondary for fletching, and with the advent of Boon of the Garou, people have found that the addition of 100 dex makes a difference for tailoring as well (see EQTraders forums).
RE: Int-class Tailors...
# Oct 10 2001 at 2:24 AM Rating: Default

Actually, you have fletching and tailoring backwards. VI did explicitly say that for all tradeskills, the primary stat was the higher of your int and wis. They also said that some tradeskills did have a secondary stat. They declined to break down which ones had which secondary stats, but they did explicitly say that Tailoring's secondary stat is Dex. Fletching also using Dex is only a guess by people who have experimented, not a fact I've seen confirmed by VI.
