I don't know if anyone here has thought about it...but Luclin will have new models, and that means it needs new textures...you've probably seen some of the screenshots and the armor looks awesome! We'll hafta wait to see, but maybe they went thru every item (they're making us wait long enough for Luclin...they have the time) and fix the graphics of those that need it....would be cool if they actually made Mask textures...can you imagine an Elf Druid running around with Elven Chain Mail (green?) hanging from his face -=P that'd be sweet...I think at least it would be good to give a LOT of the items ACTUALLY textures (ever wonder what a Savant's Cap would look like? if ya think about it ...it may be one of those metal scalp cover things ya see mages in D&D art wearing...anyway...
I've just been playing a short while, and so have an interest in armor for the under 50 crowd. But all in all, reinforced leather (and its cultural offshoots) has a great AC to weight ratio. Plug in some numbers for various types of newbie armor, and the adjuncted leathers group starts to look pretty good. Especially from a weight point of view.
I was just wondering who buys this stuff? The stats aren't all that great, and while 5 AC for a face slot isn't _too_ bad for a low lvl character, the wis and cha aren't really worth anything. The tailors need to make money to be able to tailor more, and unless this is just a piece to build skill with, I don't see much point to it.
With my druid I bought some of the 2 wis Karana tailored items, and I was hesitant to do even that instead of just saving up for somthing more.
This piece (the mask) is not itself a very good piece -- however, for druids, the boots, pants, cloak, and perhaps the belt, give +wis and decent AC at a far lower price than mob dropped alternatives. Having said that, the Studded version of this armor is far easier to make, and differs from the reinforced version only in having 1 less AC.
The only real use I can see for this particular piece is to practice Tailoring above skill 158... at about 10-15 pp (depending on charisma etc) per attempt, it's less than half the price of an attempt at a Velious tailoring item, and trivials beyond 200.
Generally this tailored/smithed armor is sold on request only. It's really hard to make, and it's not exactly cheap to practice up.
Paladins/Warriors would benefit from this stuff, but only until level 50 or so. Most of the high end player created armor isn't all that great once you break 50. It does look awesome, and it will make players inspect you now stop however =)
And there's the big problem with the Tailoring skill. Appearancd-wise, patchwork = studded = reinforced = magically imbued cultural reinforced. I'd be willing to bet there'd be a lot more interest in some of these armors if they looked unique.
Think about it: Patchwork, made from ruined scraps of hide can be made successfully by just about any hack tailor's apprentice. Reinforced is made from the highest quality pelts, and can only be made by master tailors. Magic tailored armors are even more difficult to make, and require in many cases highly exotic materials. Would it have been SO hard to come up with a few new armor designs for the game?
(Sigh) Even with their enhancements, Verant dropped the ball here. And don't get me started on how the Erudites got shafted. 95%+ of Erudites are pure casters. So when Verant makes cultural tailoring items for Erudites, who gets to wear them? You guessed it, the 5% of folk that have Paladins, Clerics, or SKs. A CLOTH based tailored armor, and the casters can't wear it.
Speaking from a role-playing standpoint, for the most intelligent race on Norrath, the Erudites must be staggeringly stupid when it comes to self-protection.
Verant got very lazy with the armor textures in this game -- half the armor in the game looks like crap anyway. Specialty items like this should definitely have a unique look, and the stats should be a hell of a lot better. Bronze armor should not look like rusty, puke covered armor. Cloth armor should show up on players. Whatever Verant.
