It would be handy to any caster, but keep in mind it is no drop and dropped off a 60+ dragon. No way you'd get this til 55+. By the time you get this thing you'll have replaced your velium etched stone mace as well.
I agree with you, Anbori. After playing a Paladin up to level 35, I decided to make an erudite wizard. I was able to max out his int at level 20 with only about 1kpp in spending, and help on the Wizard's quests like the staff of the wheel. Currently, my wizard is level 47, and my official Main. ;-) (Paladin is still 37)
I've spoken to many high-level pure casters that rely on intelligence, and they've said that intelligence items are very easy to come by. They all keep their INT at 200, and make the rest of their gear raw mana due to the very diminished value of INT higher than 200 (known as a soft cap).
Considering the difficulty of Veeshan's Peak, this is not likely a real item. There are countless items better than this. There was a GM event a while back where a bunch of GMs and players on Test were superbuffed and took on Veeshan's Peak. The end was reached, but all of the approximately 60 people died excepting 5 who were flagged as invulnerable.
Why would a dungeon that difficult have such a petty reward? These dragons don't go down easily. It just doesn't make sense.

Umm actually it is extremely useful. the fact that many high level pure casters hit the 200 int/wis softcap doesn't negate the extra 80 mana on this item. The combination of high mana and high int could allow someone to replace another slot item with more diverse stats or resists without losing any mana at all. The ultravision isn't bad either.

Look closely at the image you have pointed to via that link: around the text, there are subtle dithering errors in the background image. This is a dead giveaway for a fake item, friends; when they cut-and-paste the image to make a new item, they can't possibly line up all pixels in the background image correctly, so they smudge them.
"Look closely at the image you have pointed to via that link: around the text, there are subtle dithering errors in the background image."
Its called .jpg compression ... it happens on a lot of images on the net, especially if they don't turn compression off when they save the pic as a .jpg.
"Point 2: the image does not include slot information (handheld, back, etc). Sloppy fake work."
Well, if you look at the zone it comes from, you will realise that VP was in the game LONG before they added stuff like slot information to item text. This item was found a long time ago, and just never made it to Allakhazams for some reason. Was found long before they added the info as to what slot items go in.
this is a sweet *** piece, at that lvl you aren't meleeing anyways (reffering to the comment about it having no AC). My best friend plays a blind *** Barbarian shaman, and I know he'll blow his load when he see's this piece. 80 mana is the equivalent of 8 wis at 60 and at anything lower then that it's a godsend. This is a friggen NICE piece.
Does it really matter what class or race it "should" go to? If some of you havent noticed items are usually given away to those on the raid that either 1) have a need for it. 2) have seniority and want it.
Personally, (go ahead and call it a gripe) but whats the point on argueing who "should" get it when your not even there to see it?
Actually this looks like, if I remember correctly, a shimmoring orb. Since it can be equiped in either hand, in primary it looks like an inverted shimmoring orb, since the graphic only bends one way, and was originally made to go in offhand. (you will understand what I mean by inverted shimmmoring orb if you have seen any of the items that use that)
