but lowbie this is by far one of the best weapons for classes that can use it, the dd is very solid and comparables don't arrive until 45+ generally, ratio isn't great but considering it has a 150% proc rate more than makes up for it.

After slaying Goblins in BB for about a day and a half, and turning in heads and blood, I saved up enough platinum to purchase a set these Wakizashi's, and a SwiftClaw Sash for my level 16 Ranger. With a Dex of about 115 unbuffed (I bought mostly Dex armor and gear), this thing wants to proc 3-4 times a fight.

All I am waiting for now is my dual wield at level 17, and at 20 they will start proc'ing. With the dual wield and haste, I will be slicing dicing machine.
#REDACTED, Posted: Jan 31 2004 at 2:50 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) If they are proccing on your lvl 16 ranger "3-4 times a fight" why are you so excited about getting to 20 so "they will START proc'in"?

WANTS TO PROC means that he is getting the message "Your will if not sufficent to command this weapon," which mean that the weapon would have proc'ed had he been lvl 20 when these beauties start proc'in.

I have 2 of these on my ranger and a dex unbuffed of 201, you can get dex kit pretty cheap if you know what to buy a few items that can bump up dex loads are:

Executioners Hood (9 dex) 200-300pp
Golden Star Ruby Rings (7 dex) 80pp
Dwarven Work Boots(5 dex) 150pp
Mantle Of Stealth (7 dex) 100pp
Lizard Scale Cloak(5 dex) 100pp
Seawind Necklace (15 dex) 100pp
Darkmail Guantlets (5 dex) 50pp

many other cheap items just these are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head.
Excellent for my Bard

My 32 Bard has a pair of these. She got them in her low 20's and still uses them. Her DEX is 160 and they proc like crazy, very handy for soloing or extra damage on mobs with a group.
I have stolen aggro from the main tank, so I try not to engage in melee until the mob is at 75% health. They are light, fast, and with her high DEX the proc makes up for the lower damage.
Also I will say that I like their look. Too many EQ weapons look overly fantastic. I prefer my swords to look like swords, and my character actually looks like she's dual weilding wakizashis.
I have been collecting the components and making them and I get 150pp for them. Not much individually but I had 10 on my bazaar mule and they all sold. :-).

I had one of these on my bard from 14 to 30ish...it procs a lot, making up for the low damage...not a bad weapon if you have a tracker to get the drops and forages for you
I still love em.
# Nov 06 2003 at 6:41 AM Rating: Decent

A ranger friend of mine started digging these up out of stonebrunt when it opened up and made a fair bit of money selling them at the time.

He also handed em out to friends and I have to say that my bard and ranger loved em, nice and light and fast and loads of procs - in fact my bard is now 43 and using other weapons but it took a long time for him to give them up cos hes so fond of em.

My ranger is low 20s now so he's inherited them still happily using them.

If you're a dual wielding, high dex,low stamina type then these are well worth a shot - just be careful of mobs with high cold resistance.

As you probably already discovered, your Paladin had a damage cap removed when he reached lvl 20, so yes his damage would have gone up substantially.

Quest at 20th

This Quest can be done with a Party of 20's.
I did it with 3. Cleric Ranger and Shaman.
Cleric and Ranger essential and Shaman would prolly be better replaced with a Druid (backup heals, SoW and DS)
Ranger is essential for pulling, Track, camo and the fact that animals will not aggro.

The only really hard part is the skins and claws.
Tiger skins I got off of Kejek Tigers but you can get them from the Tiger(s) on Kerra Isle...didn't know this at the time.
Panda claws are actually visible on the pandas, they stick out the bottom of their right "hand" but at 20's (or low 20s) stick with the Cubs...don't be fooled by the name "cub" they are still high 20's in level.

Set up party on one side of mountain region...pull to there. Do not try and slow or snare or DoT the mob...at 20th it won't stick (closer to mid twenties you may have more luck) just heal tank and if mana gets low have ranger take aggro (or monk if you have one) and kite while healers med, with cleric casting a HoT just as he goes. Kiter must not bring back any adds.

With just 3 of us the fights were long and drawn out but no one died...not great exp as slow kill rate. With a full party this could be improved but again I would say do not waste mana on anything but heals and any Nukers hold fire until end of fight.

Fruit and bamboo are foraged in SB. I have seen fruit in bazaar for sale but I didn't find it that rare, got one of each on my first 2 successful forages.
Asp sacks off of Cistern Asps in Oasis, some might still be light blue at 20 but most are green and little threat.
Very under appriciated weapon

The Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies is probably one of the most under rated and under appriciated weapons there is. I lost track of how many times I hear 20th to 30th level players singing the praises of the SSoY but trashing the WoFS. I'm not sure if they are basing it strictly on damage (only 2 better) when they trash it but the WoFS definately is better at lower levels. The 81 dd proc saved my rangers and rogues butt a lot and it procs several times through a fight for me. At least with the things I fought in the 20's with my ranger, the cold base proc took hold more than my fire based spells and it's just extra damage that my Rogue can inflict in the secondary

On my server it's hard to even give the WoFS away to anyone as they all seem to want the SSoY instead even though they would be to low for the SSoY to proc for them.
Question
# Jun 02 2003 at 11:27 AM Rating: Decent
Would this sword be good for a rogue? I never used 1hs cuz I wanted to keep piercing maxxed, so I dual wielded daggers.

RE: Question
# Jun 05 2003 at 11:17 AM Rating: Excellent
It would be good for a rogue for your off hand perhaps. Or to duel wield when you are working solo. Seeing as it is 1hs you won't be able to backstab with it. But considering it processes it's damage at only level 20 it may be worth it.

I've seen them duel wielded by warriors. There are a few big advantages to it. I'm wearing my asbestos underwear and I'm ready for the attempts at flamming me for saying the following.

1. The sword does not hit very hard, but it is fast. It's willingness to seem to proc very often more than makes up for it. I've seen them proc 8 times in one fight. At 81 points each, thats 641 points total, it does make a impact.

2. The are VERY light. Weighing in at ONLY 1.5 each, you can swing it all day and not need a stamina regen or stop to rest.

3. Because the are very underestimated (IMO) it keeps the cost of them down. Usually between 100 to 300pp. This makes it very affordable to own one, if not two.

4. It proc's at level 20. As compared to SSoY that procs at 35. Very hard to beat it on bang for the buck.

You'd think I own stock in the company that makes em, but I don't. I just get annoyed at people who think any weapon that doesn't drop from 50+ creatures is trash. Not everyone has high level friends or alternate characters to set em up. Unless you have better, its hard to beat this weapon no matter how you -slice- it.

Sorry, couldnt resist the pun.

What Level Does It Start Proccing?

# Mar 24 2003 at 12:18 AM Rating: Decent
I did this quest twice with my druid, mainly for something to do while hunting in Stonebrunt, and gave them to my ranger when she was about lvl 15 and still use them at 40. I have about a 165 dex and have gotten them to proc up to 6 times in a single fight, since they now have a dmg bonus of 5 on them it makes them a 22 delay 11 dmg and thats not too bad if you ask me. A good deal of the time when you combine these with snare and dot I have to try and not get argo. They make me quite the mana sponge as I tend to pull argo off the real tanks.

Ok suggestions please, level 17 Ranger just got dual wield, and yes he is twinked somewhat, right now I have a Lammy I am thinking that these(Wakizashi) are good post-level 20 pre-level 35 or so, recommendation, two wakizashi(dex 157), 1 wakizashi 1 glowing black sword(dex 177), or 1 wakizashi and stick with Lammy(strength 165 with Lammy)? I only have about 1500pp to spare now(twinked but not unlimited) and these go for about 300pp on my server and glowing black only a little more.

oh and before the flaming (which will prob still come) I twinked him because I dont have much time to play anymore but I think the slightly higher-end game is more fun and thats why I play, for fun but I did take the time to max all my weapon skills and have some tradeskills too.

Lammy's speed and ratio far make up for the lost dex from the glowing black sword... probably the best weapon listed ad should be used in Main.

Possible Offhand Weapons:
Venomous Axe of the Velium Brood
Stone Bladed Axe
Jagged Blade of Mourning
Centi Shortsword / Longsword
Black Blade of Torment
Glowing Black Sword
Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies

Lots of possibilities and whatever you choose should be good for a lvl 17.... heck back in the day, dual ykeshas would be good till your 50

Ratio over delay till your 50+, then because of mainhand damage bonus delay is better.

Wurmslayer is best droppable / affordable 1HS weapon for Ranger mainhand till 50, parses at rangers glade have proven that over and over.

Offhand damage ignores delay, you get a check on dual wield, (swing off hand) then on dual weild you get a check on double attack (swing) again.

If you want a proc'ing weapon great, the WotFS is cool. DPS will shine with a Wurmslayer mainhand and sharpened mining pick off hand.

Whoops, common mistake in your post.

Unfortunately, the weapon damage bonus does not add directly onto the weapon damage -- They're not the same units, in other words. It's well documented that a player with a damage bonus will not hit for any fewer HP than that bonus, with the weapon in their main hand. For example, my damage bonus is 9 at level 54, so there is no such thing as me hitting for 1-8hp with my main hand. This doesn't matter with the offhand. You can, of course, still miss.

If you log fights, you'll notice a dramatic increase in the frequency of hits above your damage bonus if you duel wield. If you're an SK, Pally, or if you can duel wield but have a shield, or use a 2hs (dmg bonus varies for 2h weapons btw) you'll notice that you'll NEVER hit for less than your dmg bonus.

I made the same mistake too, don't feel bad. Just different units is all -- Weapon damage is a multiplier, damage bonus is a HP value.

# Mar 08 2003 at 8:45 PM Rating: Decent
This wep is nice maybe from 20-30, but by the time you pass 30, it is pointless in my opinion. As a warrior, I want to keep aggro and lamentation (9/19) and a venomous axe of the velium brood (11/24 eff. 85 dd) do the trick quite well. I read some of the posts from a while ago here and I laugh when people say they keep aggro with these at 30+ vs. a person with lammy + something else. Just my 2 cp.

Well, what can I say. The lamentation is garbage. Take your 2cp and buy another. I do agree with ya on the venomous axe of the velium brood. I primary that, and the wakizashi rides secondary. Can't trade in the 81 proc, I am just not up to it.
RE: Good wep, but only for so long

here's your problem... you're a warrior... this weapons isn't really meant for warriors... have used it with a warrior... it was nice, but like you said only for a while.

this weapons is ment for rangers. sure other classes can use it... but as a ranger this weapons is awesome...

the role of the ranger in a fight is to snare and keep mobs off of the casters... not tank. the speed of this weapon is great... the proc makes up for it's low damage

atm, i am dual wielding one of these and a glowing black sword... (thankfully the glowing black sword hasn't started procing yet)

with this i can snagg agro when i need to with ease...

i highly recommend this for anyone thinking of staring a ranger.

SMMMMMMMMMMMMM..... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh...... Smell that? Thats the smell of my sweet new combo!!! haha, earlier today a friend gave me this sword, I have it in my primary hand because the lower delay, and a veno axe in offhand, I am currently exping with alot of different weapon combos, I think this will be a good combo, because I will be hitting pretty fast and procing for 85 and 81dd

Venomous Axe of the velium brood: 11/23 effect:poisonous chill, non-melee 85dd

WoFS: 6/22 effect: spirit strike, non-melee 81dd
should be nice =P
RE: Sweet New Combo!
# Feb 26 2003 at 1:32 PM Rating: Default
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the rule of thumb generally to have the higher-damage weapon in the primary slot so as to take advantage of dmg bonus? I seem to recall posts that say you don't get a dmg bonus on your offhand weapon. Hope this is correct and that it helps.

No, you would want to keep the fastest weapon in your primary hand to take advantage of the damage bonus. Unlike 2-Handed weapons, One-Handed depends strictly on your level and does not change with delay. Therefore, you want to swing as many times as possible with your primary hand.

No it is not. the pop portal to paineel is in tox forest. To go to stonebrunt you would have to pass through warrens, which should not be difficult for a lvl 32 ranger. But keep in mind that the creatures in stonebrunt can be pretty tough, in particular panda's have a high resistance to snare and panic animal.

I got two without even really trying, (in about 2 days playing on and off, not really trying untill the end) I know that sounds smug, but I was just simply hunting and when I am in a new zone i keep all my loot. I pretty much had all the items for one right off except foraged items. I bought one claw, I broke down and bought one. Technically I had 3 in the first day of hunting and GAVE one away. Then I could not get another to drop for anything. I had a 34 ranger with me, between his forage and my ports to South Ro and into Oasis, for asp sacks... plus tracking We had it in no time.

I am tired of everyone saying these suck. I have a 16 ranger, an alt so by ALL means they will be nice. But they prock at 20, are light weight, and are not lore... you can duel wield these. Think about it Duel weild, double attack both can prock. Thats sick. Also the quest was not even hard, the reward great. As someone else said 'I wish more quests were like this' - its true.

The zone is very smooth hunting by that I mean its fun, and dangerous, and in hunting you get items for a quest, good XP and so on. Its like if your actively questing, you look up and 'oh wow I have more experice'. And while actively focused on leveling you are getting quest items and the highland kobalds have some nice drops also. Some gems selling for around 40pp or more. So you have a nice quest, nice quest items, money, nice drops (both usable and cash), and nice XP....

Its a game people. enjoy it. What I am saying is this is the kind of zone you have all the elements, fun, danger, questing, treasure... etc. From a rollplay and game sense it rocks.

Not to mention I did this quest with a 34 druid, take a look at the other items that have this eefect... The are like level 55, At that level it most likely would not be worth it. so stop yer' ******** :)

I totally agree with you on this, Stonebrunt is one of the underappreciated zones, but unfortunately, this is one of the only really good quests there. What would have been neat is if verant added a cave where monsters spawn, kind of like a mini dungeon, that and why make the zone so far off, like you gotta go through toxxulia to paineel through the warrens then there. A lot of people don't know their way around there, and are some times hesitant to explore and never get to see the zone. Literally 1 week after the zone was open to play in, it was deserted.

Anyways, yea, it was a great quest with a nice reward for sure. I just wish there were more quests with the cat people.

RE: :-)

Indeed. I did the swiftclaw sash quest twice but to no avail. Then I did this quest, the sword is sweet, it proced 7 times in one fight once at 24dd, there was one resist, and all the rest were 81dd; the fight lasted about 45seconds. After doing this quest I turned in the heretic heads and I got the sash! Third time lucky I guess.
What lvl or stats do you need ...

Please don't tell me that I have to be lvl 25!! lol I'd appreciate any help.

This thing so totally rocks !

Thanks to this little toy my 24 Halfling Ranger has finally been able
to solo in Netherbian Lair. I was almost disgusted of Luclin. I mean
what a shock when youcome fresh out of Paludal Caves and
you then barely solo blue mobs with GODLY regen and AC that lasts
like level 40 solo fights. ACK.

So far on my 1st 3 fights in Netherbian it procced 4 times, 2 times, and 1 time!
It was resisted once, but other times it's always for 81 DD.

Dang, and I thought I was a twink.. Luclin is just silly, an hour ago
I made a yellow bubble in a Marus Seru group fighting blue white and yellow
con mobs !! One yellow in like one hour, it was like a level 45 group
except I was 24 !

/em runs to Norrath Scion screaming.

UPDATE: Been doing most of level 24 with a Druid, this weapon
procs OFTEN, at least once a fight up to 4 times a fight and was resisted
only once out of 50+ fights (all blue mobs mind you).

Comparatively, my 46 Ranger's Dragon Horn Ykesha or Ykeshan War Club barely
ever proc ! And my 24 Ranger had just 95 Dex go figure! It's like the Iksar
Berserker Club, procs a lot (although less than IBC).

Very very sweet little toy.

Given the 81 DMG DD and the damage you dish with other higher ratio
weapons I very roughly estimate this would be somewhat obsolete by level 35
that is.. the level at which you can hope to finish the quest.. classic
Verant thingy. :P

I have a lvl 33 ranger who recently completed the wak quest. Previously, i was wielding a Centi SS(12/25, str/sta +5)in my main-hand and shaded blade(12/24, +5 to resists)in my off-hand. Now that i have a wak,i am wondering if i should replace one of my other swords with the new wak, or if the 81pt proc is not enough to out-damage one of my other weapons. Also, would it be worth putting a wak in my main hand, or is the ratio too poor to make it a good main hand weapon?
