While waiting around in Stonebrunt for Heretics to pop, I've been fear-kiting a few of the animals dual-wielding these. Just for fun, I had a high level shaman in my guild give me a large Dex buff. You would not believe the damage output that comes from 2 of these chain-procing.
I just wanna say that this weapon is great! I did the quest on Saturday and am now using it in my off hand. I don't think it would be a good weapon to use in primary but lower levels might like it till they get high enough for it to proc...at which time the SHOULD have a better primary. All in All, a very nice weapon.
Accually, im pretty shur this would be better off in your main hand, unless you have a DN weapon or somthing about equal. IE if your useing a Wurmslayer and this, you want this in the main hand. Untill after 200 DW skill you want the fast weapon in promary, to a certain extent. Naturally if you have a 10/24 weapon you would use it in primary over this, but if you have a slow weapon with high dammage its better off in secondary hand. And accually its best to have your weapons pretty close to the same ratio if its possible. :) Just a little advice, take it, flame it, dont matter to me.
Working on straight damage-per-minute (discounting primary hand bonus), this weapon would have to proc about every 4th swing in order to outdamage a Wurmslayer. If you have a very high DEX, this might be possible (but unlikely). The gap does close a bit at higher levels due to the rising pirmary hand bonus.
This is a Pre-SSOY weapon, your twink will use SSOY's till 20th level, switch to the waki till 37 and then switch back to the SSOY, cause the damgae ratio isn't as good pre-20, but the procs make it worth it between 20 and 37, then ratio and proc of the SSOY make it better at 37+. I have four, 2 on my bard and two on my warrior, i camped them with my 45 wizzy and claws were dropping off the Panda cubs (which were hardcore green) which means the trivial loot code doesn't seem to apply to these, OR, Verant made a booboo and will be fixing it soon. :)
Okay I know the big rush is on to sell this weapon and some people are paying stupid prices (saw one go for 3.5k!), but this will end quickly as hundreds and yes I mean hundreds flood the EC market. When looking at the value of this thing two things should be considered. First how it compares to the SSOY which on most servers still goes for around 1k. So how does it measure up? Well for the most part it is inferior. Yes it does do more DD on the Proc, but it is also easier for the MOBS to resist some or all of the damage than the SSOY. The proc does 81DD compared to 75DD of the SSOY but the damage ratio on the SSOY is better and over the course of a battle the SSOY will end up doing more damage unless you proc every second swing and come who does that? Second thing to consider is how easy is this weapon to get? The answer is extremely simple I completed this quest 3 times in about 5 hours (of course I made sure to collect all my asp poison sacs first to avoid travelling back and forth). Granted now that everyone knows about this quest the pandas are harder to find, but this still gives you an idea of the ease of this quest. Compare that to the SSOY or the Dragon Horn of Ykesha, these weapons require a lot more effort. Just as a note another advantage of the Wakazashi is it procs at a lower level but show me a 20th level character who can pay 2k and I'll show you a twink who probably could have had his main do it for him in the first place. All and all I would put this weapon in the 750pp range I think that's a fair price but if you've thought of something that I haven't let us know!
Caeran Moonshadow Ranger of 42nd Season Seventh Hammer Server
Wakizashi of the Frozen Skies is 6/22 1hs with a 80dd proc
It's definitely not as good as a Wu's, no question. But put it in a bard's hand while he's singing/twisting Jonathan's Whistling Warsong (HASTE, str, ac) and Chant of Battle (str, DEX, ac) and you have some righteous damage.
Wu's go for 3500pp on my server, I'm thinking these could consistently go for 2k for a while. I got mine for a trade worth 500pp. =)
That's the way things seem to go right when new items are found. They go for insane amounts of pp, so more and more people farm them, and less and less people need them. And you end up with these things selling for 500pp within a couple weeks :P
The first two days Stonebrunt Mountains came out someone I know got 2 Forlorn Totems, traded one for a knuckle duster, and another for a prayer shawl. I bet those people are kicking themselves now :)
They fixed the loot code but 1 thing that was not changed is the loot of panda claws. If the kill is trivial you will not get the panda claws even after the patch. I tried this with my two chars. Also another note is that the claws are seriously uncommon. Out of about 20 pandas 1 would have claws. And the claws can come off all the different pandas. I have done this quest now 4 times and have sold all 4 sword from 1200pp to 2kpp in trades. They go fast on auctions.
well they fixed the looting in the zone for some reason i can loot the bambo shots and the fruit. They are common forage items and now even us upper level characters can do this quest.
It is no rumor, the weapon does proc at lvl 20, yes I am only a druid but I went around asking different lvls to try it out and the lowest that could proc it was a lvl 20. The proc is an 81dmg (81 at 20 and even at 33 so no higher) Cold based DD, and while the weapons Dmg Vs Del is not great it is not to shabby either for the questable lvl. Hope this helps ;)
Nice ratio, wonderful look (Very unique) and the proc is generally better then yak (More damage). I'm a 40 shaman, and this is a relatively low level Shaman nuke, alot of things tend to have a bunch of cold resist so it'll get resisted part or fully quite often. All in all, still a great weapon.
Same damage/delay as the Short Sword of Morin, without the stats, but WITH a proc. Nice item to have around, and even better that they can be dual wielded because they aren't lore like the SSoM. Probably a bit harder to get than the SSoM, but not bad at all and a lot easier to get than the Yak, and with a better proc which goes off at a lower level.
this is the first item ive seen since the zone came out that is actually worth spending time to get (if i had any melees, that is). the delay isnt bad, and the proc is _very nice_ for a weapon of that level. high dex characters should be able to do a significant amount of damage with them (but beware of the taunt, like Rachan mentioned).
I know these proc between 10 and 22. They proc for my ranger at 22, however did not for a 9 SK. Will be testing some more tonight to narrow the range a bit.
I got 2 of these blades last night. Id been holdong on to the claws for just this.
These blades are (IMHO)...awesome! I gave them to my 46 ranger to "try out"...OMG. I had a shammy dex buff and boon of garu on me. 255 dex (mines high anyway) And i was a spammer! I proc'd 17 times in one fight...took out a rager, out taunting a 52 warrior. The 17 x 81 dmg was 1377pts EXTRA. My yk and icey blade are history! These guys got partials, full hits on stuff btm (at 46) and i swear i could prolly solo ragers now with a little distance thrown in (bow and swarm)...
I got 2 of these last night for the fun of it for my level 33 ranger. They are nice and fast and with the proc going off 3-5 times a battle with 1 equiped in main and about 4-9 times a battle with 2 equiped with a 130 dex. I think this is a nice pre SSOY weapon since the SSOY do not proc till 36. They look really cool. They look like katanas. The proc rarely resists even on yellow cons to me.
The hardest part of the quest is the panda claws. I killed for half a night for exp and only got 2 of them. But you can usualy get them off people for 20 pp. Personally i think this is a sweet weapon.
Any one have any idea how much these are selling for?
The effect is an 81 point cold-based DD. The nice thing about it is, unlike Ykesha, you can get partial damage from a partial resist. Don't know for sure what level is required, but current rumor is level 20.
Greetings travellers of Norrath, I have several friends hunting in this area and would love to know when this item proccesses at and the effect of the process...
