What am I missing here? The stats on the Cloak are not that great, why is it valued at over 7k? I'm not be a smart-***, I just can't see the value.

Remember this is an "old world" item. (PRe- Kunark / vel /luclin /pop) This was (and in my oppion still is)A great cloak (+9int is hard to come by :)) The main reason for the cost is the time involved. I have been mass killing mobs in the zone (force spawing the Titans) and have gotten the giant Yin, and Snowbeast pelts. I have spent about 6+ hours in Stoneburnt looking for titans. I think the price reflects the time required.

Although this is technically an "old world" item, remember that it involves travelling to the Stonebrunt Mountains, which weren't released until significantly after Kunark was released, as I recall. I forget exactly when the issuance of the Odus optional zones transpired (too many expansions, the chronology is beginning to blend together in my mind), but I'm pretty confident it was after the advent of Kunark.

Close, but not quite. Stonebrunt went live on August 29, 2001; Luclin went live on December 4, 2001.

I'd like to see you come up with another back item with that much INT, which is also droppable, for Wizards.

Maybe there is another cloak out there, although most likely that too will worth a lot.

I multi-quested this with a friend the other day. I had the leopard skin and he had the tiger one. I am pretty sure anything can be multi-quested as long as everyone's faction is good enough to do the quest.

Enchanter are your friend
# Mar 25 2002 at 5:48 PM Rating: Decent
The +9 int is very nice for a caster! I agree that -5 Mr is not to hot. But that is nothing for an enchanter to deal with. There are tons of Items that raise your MR and Enchanter can cast MR boosting spells at 24. The lowest MR spell that an Enchanter casts Gives you +10 MR. So the MR loss is not that much of a problem. Besides The Cloak has a Average retail of 10K.
MQing?
# Mar 22 2002 at 3:02 AM Rating: Decent
I'm wondering has anyone tryed to MQ this quest? i've got the pelt form Snowbeast and Old Ghostback. i have a friend that has the pelt from Giang Yin. anyone know if i can MQ the quest for the leggings with him? i'd really hate to waste the pelt if it's not possible

Okay I (52 paladin) have soloed both Slyder the Ancient and Snowbeast. Slyder the Ancient cannot be snared or rooted (tried root and snare from the ball of yarn. got a message saying that my target was immune to changes in movement speed). Slyder also has a VERY powerful poison spell, something like 1100dmg. Counteract poison is very handy here. He was light blue to me, and dropped "ancient snake rattle" and the fang. Snowbeast was dark blue, but was not immune to root (resisted, but didnt give a message). I went low on health, had to LoH but as soon as I did he was running away. Dropped 2 pelts and "a giant sabertooth fang". Also, I saw Snowbeast, Slyder the Ancient, AND Giang Yin all at the same time. Saw them all from where the path to the cat village meets the river (Giang Yin was near the wall on the grassy part, Snowbeast was standing right at the spot where the path and river intersect, and Slyder was just below the cliff at the cat village). Giang Yin is really annoying, he is a druid (didnt know it till he snared me). Does anyone know what faction I need to turn the stuff in?
Gimme!

I want, I want, I want! As an Enchanter I need the Int (yes I know Charisma is my main focus for getting spells to stick) As everyone know the higher the int the higher the mana pool, which means more buffs between meds. -5 Mr is a VERY minor drawback, even if you get the leggings as well the -10 total is still minor. When I am in a group I cast endure magic on my party and my shielding spell on me, for me personally its a 35 point MR buff I think I can handle the -10 and replace some minor Int item with a + to MR. So again GIMME!

Must be real useless :) I added this and legs for an added 14 int boost , had 5 prior in the slot I freed up ( finger ), and put on Velium Jacinth Ring . Hmmm added 14 int and 4 MR over all, ya must be usless.
Good?

WTH? +9 int on a back slot kicks as* for a caster.
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 09 2001 at 8:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) if you are too lazy to camp the mystic cloak (which has a very nice 8 ac, 5 int AND +5 mr) then i could see buying this inferior cloak for your twink.

Hunting titans and SBM in general
# Sep 20 2001 at 3:40 PM Rating: Good
Just a few things.
1) the pelts are an uncommon drop on these buggers.
2) soloing is difficult at best (depending on level), combined with the trivial loot code, makes it annoying to try and get a drop (unless you throw a 40-50th level in your group with you). My 45 wizzy had a hell of a time taking one out, but i did.
3) Old Ghostback, Snowbeast, and Giang Yin are almost always up and running around. The other two, Slyder the Ancient and Prowler Seem to be rare spawns.
4) Currently the pathing in SBM is SO bad if you wanna kill anything, just sit on the east wall. Every creature that has aggroed someone, and the PC got too far away, will run to the east wall and make it's way down to the water, and happily run in circles trying to figure out what to do with it's self.
5) COMPLETELY (not very) resistant to snare and root. Had a 53 wizzy try 4 or 5 times to drop a paralyzing Earth on PRowler and it NEVER landed, not once. He then tried all his root spells, (root, enstill, immobilize) and Bonds of force (which, admittedly, is not that great of a snare spell) and none of those took, he tried them all repeatedly. So you'll have to do what i did with my 45 wizzy: Get a sow, run ahead till he's just out of range, and cast a 3.5 or faster DD (I was using inferno shock my 29th level DD, 250dmg a pop.)
6) ALL of the Kejekan wanderers in the zone HELP the titans if you kite within aggro range of them. and yes they snare and DD (though the DD is pitiful, the snare could be very bad). Do not if possible kite the titan near any of the Kejekan's they Heal the titan and try to snare you. i saw a 51 druid die, cause he ddn't resist one of the cat's snares and the titan kept interrupting his gate...:(

Good luck to all campers.
Doesn't make sense
# Sep 11 2001 at 4:09 PM Rating: Good
In order to obtain these items, you need to kill the Titans in SBM. These Titans are very Magic Resistant, as snares and some DDs don't work on them. Why, then, do the items made from their pelts give you negative Magic Resistance?
RE: Doesn't make sense
# Oct 02 2001 at 9:53 AM Rating: Decent
They arent very MR at all...as a ranger I never have a problem fearing them. The ony thing they are resistant to are movement reduction spells.
Not that great
# Sep 11 2001 at 1:17 PM Rating: Default
The only thing I would use this for is tradeskills to max out my int at 250.

Otherwise, the -5 magic resist is too big of a hit for the dubious benefit of 9 int that I don't even need anymore on my level 36 mage. He's already over 200 int easily with no negative stat items.
RE: Not that great
# Feb 21 2002 at 10:51 AM Rating: Decent
With the changes to mana from the introduction of Luclin doesnt this then refute this argument.

ie

+10 mana for every int point up to 200
+6 mana for every int point from 201 to 250
then +1 mana for every point over 250 int

The high end game is now to get above 250 int correct, which puts this cloak well back in the ball game

-5 mr is as said not hard to fix, especially now the int is more important

At the time of his posting, he was correct as there was no Luclin. Still though, I think 9 INT on a back slot item is pretty impressive, even with the other neg stats. If it frees up one or two slots for gear, you can easily make those stats up. If you add the questable pants in, you get 18 INT in two slots, neg 10 magic resist, neg 3 STR. Pull of your +5 INT rings, and you can add just about whatever resist gear in one or both finger slots to make up for the -10, even throw in a STR item in the other slot if you are so inclined. These two items add 18 INT to two semi-hard slots to fill with good INT, freeing up two others. Very nice in my opinion.

With +9 INT on your back, you can get rid of those +INT earrings, or mask, or rings, or whatever. Then you can add stuff like BD jewelry, or other resist/mana items.

The point of the high end game isn't to have 200 INT. It's to have 200 INT and high resists, and lots of mana gear, and decent stamina, and decent agility, and decent AC, and decent HP.

This cloak is awesome. I don't care what a level 36 person says. This cloak, and the leggings are probably the best original world items for the casters that would wear them.
RE: Not that great
# Oct 28 2001 at 12:54 AM Rating: Default
Odd, my goal is to have the higest ac. In formulating a list of highest ac items i felt that i could one day aquire, i ended up with 242 intel, and 860 ac. Regaurdless of wether you care what a lvl 36 thinks, you might be suprised to find that post 50, most people don't really care about intel as much as you seem to put on it. 9 intel on an item is decent, but as the world is filled with items, and not all of them from the "old-world", you might start considering looking at some of the other places to get items.

It's a decent back slot item. Not the pentultimate to die for back piece. If Kunark, and SoV didn't exist.. then maybe it would be more interesting, but with a 4 ac it's not.
RE: Not that great
# Nov 21 2001 at 1:28 PM Rating: Excellent
Obviously yer not a caster. There's no need for high AC on a caster unless yer soloing. Loose the AC fetish and go for INT and Resist. BTW the -5 sv Magic can easily be recouped by replacing the earrings, neck, face or ring slots yer cluttering up with INT items.

Vebekn tells you attacking a_mob00 master
You have been summoned
a mob hits you for 216 points of damage
a mob hits you for 124 points of damage
a mob hits you for 240 points of damage
you have been healed for 540 points of damage
celestial light pumps through your body

That's right, a raid mob summoned me when I hadn't even cast on the doggone thing! I survived long enough for the heals to land, but I'm glad I was wearing my 12ac leggings at the time.

I'd still be willing to give up the 8ac to gain 9int and 6agi, though.

What Jarnin says is true, however, I just can't deal with that -5 MR. Give me a -5 DR, -5 Cold, something else, but in general, I would prefer to *not* be walking around with a negative to Magic Resist, as a rule.

Going against specific encounters, I might be willing to accept it, and mebee then be seeking to pump up Disease Resist, for example. Nice cloak, but not my choice of "day-to-day wear" with that negative MR.

Too bad cloaks don't show on chars., though, they could do some really cool things with this one.

I think it's bards, anyway, whoever needs the white scale off Vox. This cloak approaches the level of a WDSC, and is presumably much easier to obtain. Maybe now bards won't have to compete with int casters for that white scale?
RE: Good new for bards?
# Sep 12 2001 at 8:02 AM Rating: Decent
Ah FYI the white scale from VOX is for the Bard EPIC and WDSC is a casters cloak made from a white scale
Nice, but...

That -5 sv magic really does hurt. Don't get me wrong, this cloak owns for exp grinds and whatnot, but I see a lot of people tossing it out for raids. I think the leggings are about the same way.

However, 9 int with a cloak is sweet, so you could probably make up that 5 sv magic with another slot. ;)
Well

Yeah.. I saw something out of Stonebrunt, stats looked like the kodiak claws (I forget the name) selling for 400pp.. Just because it was new. A cloak that was pretty crappy was going for 2k.. Just because it was new. This thing is awesome, seeing as the best thing you could get around this level would be the molten cloak (I guess you could raid Sol A or something down to the little lady and kill her until you got the cloak..), and it goes for.. What, 2k? 4k? This thing should be going for 15-25k now, and even after Stonebrunt's been out for 6 months it'll probably still be going for 10k.. Just my thoughts..
Ack
# Sep 10 2001 at 9:34 PM Rating: Decent
I imagine this will fetch an impossibly high price in the EC mart, especially since it is so new. I can see it now...

'New item from Stonebrunt, Cloak, +9int - only 20k!'

That may not even be an exaggeration of the price, given the dearth (hehe, what a funny word) of back slot intelligence items.
