If anyone has ever played the old pencil and paper RPG's then you may remember the encumerance system. The books explain it as the items weight and size determines the encumberance. I think the same idea is used here, the more heavy AND bulky an item is the more it's stone weight is. So trying to put actual weights to the system EQ uses may be just a waste of time because they are not just using weight to determine the number they arfe using they are also using its size.

Oh hush

Ok, and what the heck was the point of that stupid post? Only one thing I hate worse then people claiming items as their classes, and it's people that bash them, even when there isn't any provocation.

Heh, Dorfs have been touchy ever since someone got drunk with them and accidentally translated "Brew Swillers" into Brell Serillis...

Any provocation? LOL You sure this isn't your first time here? Just go look at 90% of all the ToV loots that have come out, and I bet you 10pp that every single one of them that has a weight below one stone, has some dumb monk saying "MONK ITEM ALL THE WAY" or some crap like that... yes, monks are included, but I mean... C'mon... we don't need you monks coming in and getting all huffy puffy about some item because it has great stats and a weight of 0.0

I can see where that guy's post is coming from... frankly, I wish all the monks out there doing that crap would just shut up (Now I don't hate monks, I play one myself and think he's totally kick **** and what not... but I don't go around "Oh... look 0.0 weight... MONK ITEM!!!")

Besides... what's wrong with you lil stubby? Too much beer means you can't see the sarcasm with the 10.0 weight? =p
#REDACTED, Posted: Sep 07 2001 at 10:24 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) anything with a weight below 1 POUND. a stone is 14 pounds, which is max monk weight right there.

Actually, I believe Verant refers to it as Stone, but obviously not meaning the pre-metric English stone, or even the old English one, which varied, since I doubt a monk is intended to carry 140 to 280 weight, either.

Judging from the fetid bass caught in fironia vie, one weight in EQ is ten pounds. (12lb fetid bass weigh 1.2, 15 pound fetid bass weigh 1.5, etc.) This puts EQ weight closer to stones than pounds, but not exactly stones.

Unfortunately, that doesn't ring true with most of what we see in the game; for example, the average strength of a character is 75, meaning that they can generally carry 75 "units" of weight without slowing down. However, take that to 150 units and you can barely walk. This translates to a normal human being unable to do more than walk slowly while carrying th more than 15 pounds weight.

It would be more realistic if people got slower and slower as their weight went up from zero rather than from when their Strength attribute was exceeded, with consequent AC penalties too, but that's not how EQ was designed.

In EQ, "weight" is (if you'll pardon the pun) a "balancing" factor, along with the Race and Class restrictions, the Speed and Delay, and of course the speed/damage numbers; Verant are very fond of not having one Item that fits all situations - and the stamina drain associated with swinging a heavy weapon, and the inconvenience of carrying it around, being offset against its' effectiveness in battle, are the sort of things they want people to consider and discuss -- it's this sort of thing that adds "depth" and addictiveness to EQ.
